No Windows XP on G560

After my PC died I bought a G560 i3 and wanted to use my XP (Pro) but it won't install.
Is it possible that this does not work because it's a 32Bit OS but the G560 a 64Bit machine?
I can install and run XP only via Virtualbox with OS X. There it seems to be no problem that XP is only a 32Bit system.
I always thought downward compatibility was guaranteed?
Any explanations?

changing the sata setting to compatible in the BIOs as yigit suggested should allow you to install xp

  • Error In Installing Windows XP in Lenovo G560

    Hi,
I am using lenovo G560 with Windows 7. Now i don't want to use it any more. so i decide to install Windows XP like normally in Desktops as i had used desktops only.
Boot from CD and windows Set started with loading files....in middle it stops by showing Blue Screen of Death I am not sure about it why is come.
Please suggest how to install Windows XP to replace windows 7 in lenovo G560

    Hello everyone!
I am using Lenovo G460, i guess it is not that different from G560 for the purposes of this discussion.
I had the same problem with a blue screen. I changed settings in BIOS from AHCI to Compatible and installed XP. After that I updated BIOS from within the XP, installed all the drivers, including the AHCI driver from Lenovo website.
Then, I go back to BIOS and change settings from Compatible to AHCI, and I get the blue screen again.
Ok, i don't know anything about NCQ and hot swapping, which I read about on wikipedia, and which i suppose are supported by AHCI, but my question is:
Should i now always stay with my settings as Compatible in BIOS and, therefore, never be able to use such features as NCQ and hot swapping? I repeat, that I don't know anything about AHCI or Compatible mode, but I figure that AHCI is better.
Please help me in finding the answer, whether to stay on Compatible and forget about AHCI, or may be there is some way to solve the problem for XP users with AHCI mode.
    Thank you very much.

  • Lenovo G560 and windows 8.1

    Hi
This question is related to a laptop (Lenovo G560) with "Intel HM55 chipset + Integrated Intel HD graphics w/ shared video memory".
I wanted to know if windows 8.1 will run on it (At present it is running on windows 7 hom basic). The lenovo site does not have a chipset driver for windows 8 but there is one for windows 7.
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_IN/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT072731
Windows 7 has following drivers -
Intel Chipset driver for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit)
Intel Management Engine Interface for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit)
    Windows 8 has only -
Intel Management Engine Interface Driver for Microsoft Windows 8
Does windows 8 does need intel chipset driver? Does windows 8.1 have a generic inbuilt driver  for this chipset?  Will it work? Please help?
Also - will windows 7 drivers work in windows 8.1.

    hi rohit2276,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I tried checking the drivers on the Intel Websie for chipset drivers,
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx?lang=eng
And no drivers as well for chipset on Windows 8 and 8.1
The Chipset HM55 is fully supported on WIndows 8 thus not needing additional Software installation.
Yes the Windows 7 Drivers should work by doing a manual installation , but those are not recommended.
Since Windows 8 drivers are released for this model it means that the system should do fine with Windows 8 /8.1

  • Lenovo G560, Windows 8 and Hiren's Boot program

I installed Windows 8 on my Lenovo G560 and one partition of my Harddisk has some errors. I have tried repairing it with the Windows Repair Utility program but the drive errors continue to occur. Previously when my machine was running on Windows 7, I used the Hiren's Boot 15.1 to repair any harddisk errors. However, since upgrading my laptop to Windows 8, Hiren's seems to fail to work citing time out when trying to read the Harddisk. I have no idea why. I was hoping if anyone has used another version of Hiren's on a Windows 8 that has worked perfectly to assist me. Any help will be much appreciated.

  • Wifi problem of G560 after upgrading to windows 8.1

    Hi,
I have a lenovo G560. After upgrading from windows 8 to windows 8.1, I cannot connect to wifi. I was wondering if someon else has the same problem.

    hi amardoukhi,
    Welcome to the Forums.
Your issue might be similar to this thread. Try the solution that was posted to rollback to an older driver version.
    The solution was to:
    1. Open Device Manager (press WInkey+R > type devmgmt.msc)
    2. On the Device Manager, navigate to Network Adapters > right click on the wireless adapter and choose Update Driver Software
       - Link to picture
    3. On the Driver Update Window, choose Browse my computer for driver software >  Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer and choose the wireless card on the list.

  • New G560 crashes every few minutes windows 7 BSOD 0x00000124

We just bought the new G560 using windows 7.
    The system crashed after the first 10 minutes with a BSOD;
    it crashes constantly/every few minutes.
    The code is 0x00000124
I see comments from others that this is a hardware conflict.
This is a laptop started crashing right away during our first moments of opening an IE browser.
There were any changes and no added software.
We have since made sure it has all the current Microsoft updates but the problem continues.
I don't find any other users of this new laptop with any postings but it looks like it has a serious problem right out of the box. No clues to be found here or in the Microsoft site.
Can anyone help- let me know if there is any more info I can add to the thread

How to install windows 2000 on my g560 laptop?

Windows 2000 has been largely abandoned (and with VERY GOOD reason) why on earth would you want to install that outdated unstable OS?  It's plagued with security issues bugs and BSOD issues from being unsupported so long (even when it WAS supported) chances are no drivers were made compatable with that OS for your machine as XP is a totally different monster you likely would not find drivers for 70+% of your hardware.  I'd 110% advise against even trying it XP is the oldest supported windows OS anymore an even it is about to lose support very VERY soon (if it hasn't yet already).  I can't stress enough how much of a bad idea (and without any advantages by doing so) it would be to even attempt this.

    Hi,

Once the Windows started the battery icon shows 100%(Plugged in , not charging). If I remove it from the power it is getting shutdown immediately. Will it be a battery problem ? Any OS update might not have compatible with the hardware or drivers ?
Can any one please suggest a solution for this problem?
    Thanks in Advance !

    Hi
    Welcome to community
Since you are not getting any backup  from the battery and you are able to use the system  when Ac adaptor is connected
Please remove your battery from the system , then reconnect it back again . Now connect AC adaptor
    Also try updating the Bios

  • Downgrade from Windows 7 to Windows XP at the Lenovo G560

    Hello
I was wondering if Lenovo offers any suggestion/support on downgrading from windows 7 to windows XP or even if they provide the windows xp software image to install on the G560.
Or do we have to arrange the windows xp and make the instalation on our own. In this case is there any suggestions like windows xp home or PRO.
    Thanks in advance.
    Joao

Downgrade to windows xp is available only if you are using the following version of windows 7 :

  • Lenovo G560 cannot get Windows 7 SP1 via Windows Update

My Lenovo G560 laptop running Windows 7 Home Basic is not getting the option to download Windows 7 SP1 from Windows Update. What could be the problem? Has anyone else experienced this? What is the solution? I have had the laptop for almost two years.

    hi SipoKapumba,
Do you get any error code(s) after a failed installation of Windows 7 SP1? Chances are, the prequisite to install Windows 7 SP1 are not installed.
    Can you try to:
    1. Follow this article from Microsoft and this guide in installing Windows 7 SP1 thru Windows Update
    2. If it still fails, try to run Windows 7 SP1 Standalone Installer. (use the windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe for 64bit machines)
    Hope this helps

  • G560 Windows 7 clean install

    Hi Everyone!
My brother has the Lenovo G560 (I have the G585) but with relation to the G560, my brother went and "disconfigured" the hard drive so now when the PC boots up, after displaying the Lenovo sign, it shows a black screen saying the hard drive is not configured. It was Windows 7 Home Basic and now for the meantime i've re-installed windows 7 but it's Windows 7 Professional and does not have a product key so it can only be used for 30 days. I tried repairing the system first with the Windows 7 installation disk I have but it didn't work. Is it possible to restore his whole system. Windows 7 Home Basic, back to it's factory default state with hard drive D: which still has the Lenovo back up partition? Or is there a download link for Windows 7 Home Basic and can I use the product key on the sticker that came with the PC? As for the files we managed to retrieve as the Windows I installed for him created a "windows.old" folder in drive C: ALSO on my PC (the G585) which came with WIndows 7 Starter, I deleted the whole D: drive's back up partition by accident, is there any way i can re-download the files for that drive? I upgraded to Professional but if anything goes wrong I don't have any back up!
    Thanks in advance!!
    Solved!

    hi Jussie,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
If the COA sticker indicates it came with Home Basic then the Recovery disc can be ordered there.
and I've read this post by  Bugbatter about this discussion  with the same concern as you have
