NOARCHIVE mode and datafile DROP OFFLINE
I have a 10gR2 database on linux that I use for testing. The db is in NOARCHIVE mode.
I had created test tablespaces on a NAS (as opposed to the system tables on the local machine). The NAS crashed, losing the drive mapping on the db machine. Of course, I couldn't start the database due to the missing datafiles. I did an 'alter database datafile 'xxxx' drop offline', which put the datafiles in RECOVERY mode in the datafiles view.
Amazingly, I was able to recover the NAS several days later, and the datafiles.
Is there any way to restore them after a drop offline? When I try to online them, I get recovery needed, when I try to recover, none of the redo logs have the right checkpoint. (The checkpoint needed is less than what are in the redo logs)
I don't care about any data that might have been lost. The data was static for months.
Any suggestions?

If the database is asking for recovery when you online the files, and you don't have those transactions in the redo logs, you can't recover to a consistent point in time to online the files.
# Note that the following is not supported by Oracle Support. You may want to ask them for a second opionion.
You could try taking a copy of all files to another location, recreate the controlfile, and use parameter "_allow_resetlogs_corruption=TRUE" to allow "open resetlogs" to ignore the inconsistent SCN. If it works, you should be able to export the data in the copy database, drop the objects in PROD, and re-import.

Hard luck nothing was there , might be db was offline that's why. BTW i get approval for restart so i restarted sql server and i am able to change db to multi user.
Not able to attach screenshot of component service here
Will document whole scenario and steps i took while debugging with screenshot . That might help some one else.
Thanks to all those who took time to help

Thank you. I still consider this as bug in SQL Server. SQL server Code should be able to resolve this but anyhow its good you solved it.

Drop a tablespace and datafile when database is mounted
I tried to import data in my oracle 11g. It failed midway. I presumed that i did not size the redolog properly. Now my database cannot go beyound the mounted mode.
ORA-01157: cannot identify/lock data file 7 – see DBWR trace file
ORA-01110: data file 7: ‘ /data1/owprojects/xxxxx.dbf ‘
Its a new oracle installation and i do not need the corrupt datafile.
I cant take the tablespace offline neither can i drop the tablespace including its contents.
Do i drop from the Linux OS. If yes which other file to i edit to remove the pointer to this tablespace.
Thanks and Best Regards

Hello,
I had to offline and drop a datafile that was corrupted. The database can now be open. So, the database is currently open.
How do I check to see which objects that was on the datafile that I had to drop? Because a datafile was drop, which data dictionary do I check to test if an object was dependent on the datafile that I dropped? Thank you.Clarification:
I have a test database which is not backed up and also not in archive log mode. There was an issue with a physical disk. The database crashed because of issue with on of the disks. The database was mounted with a couple of corrupted datafiles. The database was open only after 'alter datafile datafile_name offline drop. Now the database is able to OPEN status. But now I like to know which objects in the database might have dependent on the datafiles that were dropped. For example, if a table XY was in tablespace A which has 5 datafiles and one of the datafiles was dropped, would the 'status' from dba_tables say 'corrupted' for that table XY? Thank you. -
Using both power saving mode and offline mode caus...
So I am having a very strange problem. I have been using the Situations App (formerly Nokia Situations) to automatically put my phone into offline mode, and power saving mode over night. 9pm to 6:30am.
Recently the phone as started refusing to leave the offline mode in the morning. Even if I try to change the profile manually it says "Unable to change profile". The only way I can get out of offline mode is to reboot.
I uninstalled Situations, and manually put the phone into offline mode and power saving mode. By the morning I had the same issue, stuck in offline mode until reboot. So it's not the App causing the problem. I've tried a soft reset, same problem still.
I also noticed that over-night (from fully charged before 9pm) to 6:30am I used about 70% of my charge. (A combination of power saving mode and offline mode is killing my battery!)
I would have to go to work and immediately put my phone on charge! I.e.. 12 hours of offline + power save has drained my battery almost completely.
Last night I decided to use the Situations App to put the phone into offline mode, BUT NOT activate power save mode.
This morning the phone had virtually full charge and it had no problem returning to online mode. So it's ONLY if I use BOTH power-save and offline. (Tonight I will try using power-saving mode and NOT offline mode to see if it's only the power-saving mode causing the issue!)
If I manually enter offline+power-save mode, and then try to return to on-line/non-power-save mode, relatively quickly, i.e.. Not over-night, everything is fine. It's only over night the problems start!
Any help?
Rob
PS. I also have the problem where using HSPA+ causes my phone to drop from the network and stop being able to receive/make phone calls. But disabling HSPA+ works around this for now, I think this problem is unrelated however.I have a similar problem. My 808 PureView loses 70% of its charge overnight if I leave it in normal profile without power-saving. To deal with this issue, I started using the situations app to put the phone in power saving mode overnight. That solved the problem (although I never put my phone to offline mode). This is a weird problem because throughout the day my phone doesn't use 70% of charge, but it does overnight while doing nothing!
I have also experienced the second problem, losing cellular and internet connection, on my 808. I have started a thread to deal with this issue.

I believe it is a firmware bug that causes this problem. -

Can we use online redo log to recover lost datafile in NOARCHIVE mode?
I am working on OCA exam and confued about these 2 sample questions. (similar questions with totally different answer)
Please give me hint about the different between these 2 questions.
** If the database is in NOARCHIVELOG mode, and one of the datafile for tablespace USERS is lost, what kind of recovery is possible? (answer: B)
A. All transactions except those in the USERS tablespace are recoverable up to the loss of the datafile.
B. Recovery is possible only up to the point in time of the last full database backup.
C. The USERS tablespace is recoverable from the online redo log file as long as none of the redo log files have been reused since the last backup.
D. Tablespace point in time recovery is available as long as a full backup of the USERS tablespace exists.
** The database of your company is running in the NOARCHIVELOG mode. You perform a complete backup of the database every night. On Monday morning, you lose the USER1.dbf file belonging to the USERS tablespace. Your database has four redo log groups, and there have been two log switches since Sunday night's backup.
Which is true (answer: B)
A. The database cannot be recovered.
B. The database can be recovered up to the last commit.
C. The database can be recovered only up to the last completed backup.
D. The database can be recovered by performing an incomplete recovery.
E. The database can be recovered by restoring only the USER!.dbf datafile from the most recent backup.I think Gaurav is correct, you can recover to the last commit even in NOARCHIVELOG, as long as all the changes in the redo logs have not been overwritten. So answer should be B for question 2.
Here is my test:

when I install firefox version 4, it is in offline mode and I cannot open it.
In version 3.6.17, click '''File''', then click '''Work Offline '''to remove the checkmark.
In version 4.0.x right click a blank part of the Tab Bar and then click "Menu Bar". This will reinstate the text links. Then do the same as above.
To revert to the layout without the text links, repeat the same steps.
Sometimes, in FF4, you can hit the ALT key to toggle the text links on and off, but I've noticed in posts from other users that it doesn't always work. -

In general, you are correct - but also your server does need to be properly configured (and those errors above lead me to think it may not be) to serve the file types that your uploading - but it could be something else entirely. Can you zip up your composition folder, upload it to your Creative Cloud files, set it to share, and then post a link here so I can download it? If you'd rather not share it publicly, can you PM me with a link to your composition files?

trying to log into firefox but keep getting firefox is in offline mode and can't browse the web, I've unchecked the work offline in the file menu but still get error message...
The work offline option can be found from Firefox button -> Web developer or from the menubar toolbar -> Work offline (Or at least thats what happens in Windows).
Have you any other reason for being offline; router off, firefox not dialing up or whatever. Or is security software or a firewall blocking firefox, or a network connection, or firefox setting etc set wrongly.

It is self explanitory When I try to go online it keeps saying it is in the offline mode and won't go online I have tried several times .Firefox is my main internet site and the earlier ones do work like a dream .
Does File > Work Offline has a check mark when that happens?
You can try to create a new Boolean pref with the name network.manage-offline-status and set the value to false.<br />
Right-click on the about:config page to open the right-click context menu and use "New > Boolean" to create a new Boolean pref.
Name: network.manage-offline-status
Value: false

Taking rollback segment and datafile offline caused application error
One of the DBA's added a large rollback segment which caused the rman backup to abort. The rollback segment was taking offline and it's datafile was taken offline, all went normally no errors. An Application started gettting errors the database and application were taking down and up, no errors on either but the problem was still there. The rbs datafile and RBS were placed back online and the application worked properly. It looks as if Oracle let us take the RBS and datafile offline with active segments in the RBS is this possible?? If so it means you can pull the rug out from under Oracle and it doesn't even complain
Pls check any transactions written in application level,
explicitly assigned to the RBs which was taken offline. -
When I click onto the Mozilla Firefox icon and open the browser up, it doesn't automatically connect to the online server. Instead, a message appears that it is in offline mode. If I want to go online, I am instructed to click a "Retry" button. This then initiates the online mode.
It doesn't happen all the time but most often first thing in the morning and/or if Firefox has not been opened for a few hours.
Is there something I need to change in the Firefox Preferences under Network/Connection/ Settings?None of these "fixes" seem apply to Mac OSX10.6.8 . Since I installed the latest update for Firefox I, too, am getting this offline mode and retry message every time I open the browser.
I am not a programmer, so will appreciate a fix I can understand and safely execute to make this terribly annoying message go away.
Work Offline is NOT checked but does appear under the file menu.
