Nokia 5800 slower than a snail at sending sms

My 5800 is a waste of time for sending messages, hangs for ages.  I've searched forums for advice, found a sms accelerator to download, even downloaded it from the nokia website, an cannot install any of them.  Followed every step and advice that people have given with no luck.  Not very impressed at all with this phone, for the money it costs the features are poor and the performance is a joke.

I've had no performance issues with my 5800xm at all.  It runs fast and smooth and has only crashed about three times in three months.
Quite often problems are caused by 3rd party apps, apps installed on the memory card or corrupt memory cards, which does seem to be quite common with the supplied 8GB cards.
As for SMS sending issues this could be caused by a corrupt card slowing the phone down or an older sim card. Switch the phone off, remove the memory card, switch on and see if it's improved.  To test the sim try another persons sim in your phone or ask your network for a free replacement.
Also make sure you are running the latest firmware by checking www.nokia.com/softwareupdate

  • Nokia 5800: Slow Internet Browser

I recently bought a Nokia 5800 XM, and I was happily using all it's applications perfectly. Suddenly, for no apparant reason, the in built web browser became awfully slow. I have no applications running in the background, I am definatly connected to Wi-Fi, even though the problem still occurs on 3G aswell. I can connect to the internet perfectly using Ovi Store, and Music Store. It's just for some reason, the in-built web browser alone has gone painfully slow, so slow in fact, that it quits the application and returns me the home screen! I have tried restoring to factory settings, reinstalling my phone software using Nokia PC Suite, I even uninstalled all the applications using the application manager, but none of them work. I use Opera Mobile and it works a treat, but the in built browser is better, and is the default one for hyperlinks etc. I would like to know how to find the problem, just to clarify, I am having no problems at all with any other of the applications...

Hi, you can go into options on windows live and disable automatic start up in settings/connection.In web Browser, once your homescreen opens, select Options in bottom left hand corner, select clear privacy data, all and accept. The privacy data builds up and stores on C, which reduces memory and slows phone down.To see what systems are running get Best Taskman from Ovi Store, you can see all running processes and control them. And finally, I don't use nokia email, just set up my Hotmail account using standard settings when setting up email, and check it 3/4 times a day. Try this.
    Good Luck
PS if problem persists the hard reset is just about a cure all, but requires a bit of work ( use User Search, top of page ,if you need it LOADS of posts)

  • New MacBook Pro slower than a snail

I have just upgraded to a new MacBook, and am having speed issues, first with Mountain Lion and now with Mavericks. It seems as though almost all operations, even selecting a file in the Finder, bring up the beach ball of death, and opening applications like Keynote or Pages can take 30 or more seconds. I am not here to knock Apple, although as a 20+ year user I am disappointed since this is the first time I have ever encountered anything lke this, but I am lost as to where to begin to correct this. Below is the latest EtreCheck output -any suggestions will be gratefully received.

First, back up all data immediately unless you already have a current backup. If you can't back up, stop here. Do not take any of the steps below.
    Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the log for messages that may indicate a system issue. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU |hfs: Ru|I/O e|find tok|n Cause: -|NVDA\(|pagin|timed? ?o' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
    Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
Run Software Update. If there's a firmware update, install it.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
    Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the View menu or the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for User, System, and Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the Memory tab. What value is shown in the bottom part of the window for Swap used?
Next, select the Disk tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in andWrites out.)
    Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • BT sport unwatchable - iplayer slower than a snail

We have a Humax box, with Youview, the box its self isn't that old - fitted less than 6 months ago.  We are on BT infinity with decent broadband speed, however, since BT came round and put in the new box, BT sport is unwatchable.
Basically - we can get it, but every minute or so, either the sound goes, or the picture becomes  badly pixilated.  This doesn't stop - it may be ok for the first minute whilst the chips get themselves sorted, but this just goes on and on.
Also - since the new box went in, iplayer is so slow to load up, we often give up after 10 minutes of watching the circle not going round.
Yes we have turned it on and off again - no I will not speak to their overseas call centre - they are just usless - not their fault, but they can only read from a script, and the scripts are **bleep** - just like BT customer services - yes I have had to ring them in the in the past - and eventually I give up and email the Chief Exec directly - then you get swift replies.
I think the box is sub standard - with rubbish components to save money.
Am trying this way - to see if BT can respond and deal with something, before I send an email to the top.

  • Slower than a snail

Just installed Safari on my pc and man its nothing close to what apple said it should be, would love to call it slow but that would leave you thinking its faster than it actually is. I know the answer is buy a mac but cant even begin to afford one, maybe some day but for now Im left using windows. So did anyone one else have this same problem if so how did you fix it??

Safari seems to consume relatively more CPU attention under XP than comparable applications. Perhaps an artefact of Apple architecture (though not quite of "WordStar port from CPM to Unix" scale).

  • Time Machine slower than a snail

Decided to use TM to backup my Macbook Pro internal drive onto a directly connected FW-800 drive. After 12 Hours its done 36 of 88 GB. That's ridiculous! How long would it take to do my 1TB disk at that rate? Two weeks???

When I did my first Time Machine backup (with the same basic configuration) it took my MacBook just over 3 hours to copy 65 GB. Even my current network disk backups take faster. Maybe the disk you're using is bad, or the cable? I really have NO IDEA why my backups across a local FW networking can be faster than your direct backups.

  • Nokia 5800 Slower when playing music?

    Hi guys,
I'm sorry if someone already asked this question, but i have a problem with my phone when playing music.
The phone is slower , getting into menus is slower, and scrolling through lists is slow, and it's at least 50% slower compared to when music is not playing. If i press pause it's working OK then.
The firmware is v11.0.008 and i still cannot update to any version higher.
Is this the common problem or it's just my phone?
    Thanks, bye!
    Solved!

Your phone works much like a computer, and so it is possible that one constant activity like playing music may have an effect on other functions, though what you describe seems extreme.
It could be the case that you have quite a lot of files in phone memory that could be better transferred to memory card (images, music files, videos etc.) - if the phone memory is too full, this can affect the running of the phone just like when a Windows PC runs short of virtual memory.

  • Nokia 5800 music player stops when someone sends a...

is there anyway to fix ths? its a good phone but i dont want that feature to ruin it.
is there a way to make it play totally in the background, even if someone sends a message?

No there is no way. The phone has priority over accessory functions. This is common knowledge to all that have these kinds of phones. If this is going to be an issue then get a dedicated media player without a phone. ALL devices do this, to include the iPhone.

  • Nokia 5800 - can't send MMS.

I have been taking photos with my Nokia 5800 but I'm having trouble sending them via text message to other people. It just continues to say ''Resend at [time]' until I give up. Is there a specific setting I have to choose in order to send MMS?

I have had this problem, as have many others. The solution is to conact your service provider. They have removed the service from your account and only they have the ability to re-install it. Everyone who has followed this advice has had the same result, be very firm with them, but I'm pretty sure a phone call to whoever you're with, will get it working again, don't be fobbed off.

  • Nokia N97 can't send picture message to Nokia 5800...

I have a Nokia 5800 and my partner has a N97 and he can receive my picture messages but he is unable to send to my phone. We have gone through all the trouble shooting with our service providers.
I put my sim card in two other new nokia 5800's and the message didn't come through, I then put my sim card in a different brand phone and I got the picture message! The phone shop said it must be a incompatibility between to two phones, I don't understand how two new nokia's can't send a picture message, has anyone heard about this? Any fixes??
    Thanks

I have the same problem as you with picture messages. I have a friend in Australia who has a Nokia E71 and she cant either. This has happened ever since i have had a Nokia phone both N85 8GB and now my N97.
I havent found a answer and we had no troubles when i had a sony ericsson could send and receive pictures.

  • Reading pdf files is very slow on my nokia 5800 mobile phone

Reading pdf files is very slow on my nokia 5800 mobile phone. I have Adobe Reader LE 2.5 and when i open any pdf file, it runs very slow and the scrolling is very slow in spite of opening pdf files which contain text only and in black color. I have tried also wrap text option and the problem persists. Is there anyway to reduce the quality of the pdf displayed on my mobile?? and What i have to do to make it run smooth and fast to make reading on my mobile possible???
    Thanks in advance

I had the same problem and I culd not find the solution. I think it is a nokia issue, as I read it in several webs

  • Nokia 5800 with terrible slowness problem

I have a Nokia 5800. The device recently became very slow. The simple act of shutting down and restarting (detection range of a local network) take a period of several minutes long. Middle clicking on the menu appears, takes just a long time. What can I do to fix this.
It is important to note that the device is installed version 50.0.005

From what u tell it probably would help formatting it at some point. Note that this will delete everything on the card. Back up first.
Could you answer some of my above questions?
Meanwhile you could clear browser cache. Also an extreme amount of messages could slow down your phone if they're stored on the phonememory.

  • Iphone 4s with ios 8.1.1, imessage gets slower than ever, sometimes even deliver after 10 min, was not like this with the previous ios, how can I improve imessage sending time?

iphone 4s with ios 8.1.1, imessage gets slower than ever, sometimes even deliver after 10 min, was not like this with the previous ios, how can I improve imessage sending time?

    Hi there skmonirul,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
From what I gather, iMessages are taking longer than expected to send on your iPhone 4s. If you aren’t seeing issues with other apps, try restarting your iPhone as shown here:
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
If the issue persists, try restoring your iPhone as shown in the article below.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support
    So long,

  • Nokia 5800 sending emails using tiscali account

I have recently purchased a nokia 5800 and have set up may email account. I can receive my emails no problem but am unable to send them. I get an email back from system substation 500 which looks as though they have been sent but they never arrive. I use a tiscali account and have checked my settings and all seems ok?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Loobyloo0

I have exactly the same problem with an E72. Presumably TalkTalk (Tiscali) won't accept outgoing e-mails from Nokia. You can set the account up using pop3 directly and not use Nokia Messaging. This works.

  • If a Nokia 5800 has more resolution than an iPhone...

How come video etc looks rubbish on it?  On an iPhone youtube/iPlayer is crystal clear, on my 5800 its a blocky mess

The Nokia 5800 does have a higher resolution that the iPhone. In fact, the 5800 has a much better screen (e.g. greater viewing angle, doesn't go dark blue when you view from an angle). Unfortunately, the CPU/graphics subsystem on the 5800 do not have enough grunt to display video at the native resolution of the screen, so the typical video you watch on the 5800 is at a quarter of the screen resolution or less. On the other hand, the iPhone has no problem displaying video at its native resolution. Applications like the iPlayer stream video to the iPhone at its native resolution at a reasonably high bit rate (higher than the equivalent Nokia streams) and the result is video that looks much better than on the 5800.
