Non-English's bold font problem
I want to set the label's font by bold.
This is the part of my code.
UIFont* font = [UIFont boldSystemFontOfSize: 20];
UILabel* label = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(100, 100, 100, 50)]];
label.font = font;
label.text = @"ようこそ";
If text is english, it draws rightly by bold.
But text is non-engligh such as Japanese, Korean, it doesn't work by bold.
Is there any way?
It's entirely possible that those languages simply don't do bold text in the same way that Chinese doesn't do capital and lowercase letters. Perhaps you could switch typefaces or something instead.

Non english characters in bi problem
dear all,
i have problem with non English chars in bw. in r3 side my client uses non English chars which is allowed, however when i get data to bw side it gives error when i see psa , i see records which has # in it, leads to error.
example : wbs element.
any help for that? i have checked customizing in spro about non English chars.
thanks in advance.Hi,
Try RSKC --> type ALL_CAPITAL --> F8 (Execute)
OR
Go to SE38 and execute the program RSKC_ALLOWED_CHAR_MAINTAIN and give ALL_CAPITAL or the char you want to add.
Check the table RSALLOWEDCHAR. It should contain ALL_CAPITAL or the char you have entered.
As a long term you can apply some user exit in source system side or change your update rules to ensure that this field is getting blanked out before getting loaded in cube or add that particular char to permitted character list in BW.

[SOLVED] Non english chars kdemod 4 problem
Hello, I have a little problem with KDE and the non english charactes.
If I open a file with non english chars in its name I get something like this:
(In this case kwrite opens "other" file but in other applications it fails with an error of file not found)
Other sympton is that in KDE menu my name have bad chars too:
(It must be López)
And the third sympton is that if try to rename a file in the desktop, I can't write accented chars (á é í ó ú). At the begining the keyboard in this rename dialog was totally in english but i have got a semi spanish keyboard (i can write ñ letters) with the apropiate /etc/hal/fdi/policy/10-keymap.fdi file.
But the most strange is that in general, in all Kde and non-kde applications and even in the console, non english chars works ok. I can go to the file->Open menu of the application and open a file with non english chars in its name. The problem seems to reside in the part of kde that passes the name of the file to the application (¿kwin?)
my locale is es_ES@UTF8 and as I said I have configured correctly the 10-keymap.fdi file.
I have read in some forums that something like this could be a kde or qt bug, but for me it's not clear as i don't see a general complaining about this.
Any idea will be apreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Christian.

Non-English fonts problems.
Hello guys,
I have a problem with non-English (well Cyrillic) font. I faced this problem 3 days ago when was working in iDVD trying to type text there. The problem is if I type in Russian with chosen font it does no appear as its english counterpart. I have tried many of them but it seems all of them (except may be two or three) work same (wrong) way. I have also checked them in other programms and got the same result. I have even checked this in Photoshop CS2 but... guess.. the same!
I have read lot's of topics but did not find a suitable solution for me although I used some of tips while working on the problem. For example I checked everything in System Preferences and Fonts folders. Everything is ticked/unticked there as appropriate.
Hope you'll give me a solution.
Thanks a lot!Hello Tom,
thank you for your reply and for dealing with my problem. I am sorry for not being understandable. It may be because English is not my first language. I'll try to explain it in a different way. I was working on iDVD project and tried different fonts. As I was doing the project in both languages (English and Russian) because I wanted them to look the same. For English version I took Monotype Coursiva font (hope I spell right) as it was suitable to the whole theme of the project. When I typed with the same font in Russian it did not look like its English version but still readable (it is not the case of encoding problems when a text you have typed looks as the set of strange symbols). Then I tried Lucida Handwriting and oher having the same result. I have tried CY fonts as well but it was difference in appearence between letters and digits (I typed chapter names like this January 2007 and so on). Digits appeared different to russian letters, actually they were similar to English version.
I switched to Mac a year ago from Windows and absolutely love it. In Windows I mostly used Word and Power Point to work with text and did not have such problems (hope windows users are not reading this now).
I think it is related to Apple fonts because I noticed that all the applications share the same Font Book. I have tried different applications on my Mac in order to track the problem down and even Microsoft Office's Word for Mac which I use sometime was not able to do the job I requested. In other words I have same problem. May be my Font Book is not full? May be I need to update or upgrade it?
Thanks.
P.S. It's possible that my explanation is a bit complicated and you still cannot understand what the problem is. If so, would it be a good idea to send you some screenshots to be able to show you what I mean?
If answer is "yes" will you give me your e-mail, please? -
How can I prevent sites displaying in bold font in versions of FF later than 3.6?
Many sites (google, gmail, wikipedia to name a few) are appearing in bold font when they should not be. This started for me in FF4, and has persisted in FF5 and now FF6. I'm running Windows 7 x64.
I've seen many replies to questions about bold font problems telling people to reinstall, e.g. arial as the problem is corrupted fonts on their system. I've tried reinstalling several fonts (arial, verdana, tahoma, times new roman...) and it doesn't solve the problem. Also, if I reinstall FF3.6, the problem goes away, so it seems to be an issue with FF and not my machine.
I've also tried running FF6 in safe mode, with addons disabled, and restoring the default settings. None of this has helped.
I should add that I have another machine running FF6 with the same addons, but with Windows 7 x86 - all pages display correctly. Is this a known issue for FF4+ on 64-bit systems? Thanks for replying. I'm using exactly the same profile as I did in 3.6, and reinstalling 3.6 does solve the problem. I'd rather use the latest version though.
I've just checked Tools > Options > Content > Advanced of the two machines side by side, and they're identical. The 32-bit one is fine, and the 64-bit one isn't. -
Problem with the Non-English Characters
Hello,
I have been using Adobe Illustrator but I have a huge problem with the non-english characters with Standart Fonts. With the Professional font's I have no problem with them. But when I'm using any standart font in font folio library I cannot type any "ğ-İ-ş". I can add those letters in fontlab with the glyphs (scedilla, idotaccent, gbreve). Most of the fonts have those letters already prepeared so I dont even have to redraw. But I can't add those glyph to every single font because I dont have that kind of time and patience. Is there any better solution for this? Or is there any font folio pack that all fonts are PRO.
I'm looking forward for your answers
Thanks.Joel wrote: I'm told that this is the exact difference between Adobe's Standard and Pro fonts — the Pro fonts have additional glyphs, including those necessary for extended Latin script.
Exactly. The Pro fonts have at a minimum the Adobe Western 3 character set, which is essentially western European + Adobe CE.
> Standard fonts just have the basic English character set, with maybe a bit of help for Spanish and French.
A lot more than that!
> You're doing Turkish, right? Adobe's coverage for Turkish in its fonts is not great - some of the Pro fonts have Turkish coverage, many do not.
This is false. Every single Adobe Pro font supports Turkish.
To be clear:
All Adobe Standard fonts support the following languages: Afrikaans, Basque, Breton, Catalan, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, Gaelic, German, Icelandic, Indonesian, Irish, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Sami, Spanish, Swahili and Swedish.
Adobe Pro fonts support those languages, plus AT LEAST: Croatian, Czech, Estonian, Hungarian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Romanian, Serbian (Latin), Slovak, Slovenian and Turkish. Some Pro fonts have more language support than this, such as Greek and/or Cyrillic, and additional extended Latin.

Fonts messing up on non-english windows
I'm using Director 10.1 and Flash 8 Xtra for a 5 language
DVD-ROM, English, Spanish,French, German and Italian. The etxt is
stored in Director code and sent to several Flash 8 movies to
display them
Got results from my testing house today to say certain
characters not appearing when Spanish and Simplified Chinesse set
as OS Language on Win XP SP2. Both my flash movies and Director
text fields display ? instead of the relevant character. Sometimes
the character has an accent above it othertimes just a regular
letter like e or g. I am using embed fonts in both Director and
Flash. Avenir LT 85 Heavy seems to generate these ? and on some
screens in Director using regular text members the layout messes
(words apearing one character at a time on a line) when I use
Avenir 45 Book.
Now on my UK PC all 5 languages display fine, it's just on
these test machines.
Any thoughts as to what might be causing this?
Thanks

Shouldn't be an issue if the font is embedded. The only thing
I can think
of is make sure that you're using the embedded version of the
font for every
text/field object. (There should be an * next to the font
name.) Also, is
this text set by the program? Or is it entered by the user?
If it's
user-entered text, a non-English keyboard may be inputting
foreign
characters which your embedded font may not support.
(Particularly the
Chinese one.) If it's necessary for the foreign-language user
to input
text, you may have to make some sort of conversion code to
make sure that
it's fully compatible.
I really hope that Adobe can do what Macromedia never would
and put Unicode
support into the next version of Director. Most problems like
this would go
away if they did that. -
How should I organize and disable non-english fonts.
I'm a graphic designer and I'm having trouble organizing all of these random hebrew/japanese/chinese fonts that I never use.
I don't want to screw up my system, but I also don't want to scroll through 200 fonts every time I want to find one.
Is there an easy way I can find all of the non-english fonts and disable them?
Fontbook freezes and crashes all the time for me, so I've been using Suitcase Fusion free trial for a few days and disabled a bunch of fonts through it. Though, it prevents me from disabling anything considered a "System Font" which is fine, only having the necesccary non-english fonts is okay, I just don't want 75% of my font list in my adobe applications to be un-usable fonts.
I guess my problem is that by default, some fonts are pre-disabled on OS X, and should I run into problems, I want a way to easily re-enable these fonts if I need to. Also, since I've disabled so many fonts, I dont' know what ones are enabled by default. How would I go about restoring all of my fonts?
I think it'd be nice to be able to sort all of the fonts by what language they're in. But I don't know what language the font is because I don't speak those languages. Another problem is that you can't organize local fonts in Suitcase. I think using fontbook would be my best option for this, before switching back to Suitcase for regular use, but I still have the problem of restoring my already disabled fonts correctly, and figuring out which fonts are in what language. Could anyone help me out with this?PS Here is a rough list of fonts provided with OS X intended for use only with particular non-Latin scripts:
Arabic : al bayan, baghdad, damascus, decotype naskh, geeza pro, nadeem
Hebrew: arial hebrew, corsiva hebrew, new peninim, raanana
Thai: ayuthaya, krungthep, sathu, silom, thonburi
Lao : lao
Tibetan: kailasa, kokonor
Korean: gungseo, headline, nanum, pcmyungjo, pilgi, applegothic, applemyungjo
Chinese: biaukai, gb18030, hei, heiti, kai, lihei, lisong, stfangsong, stheiti, stkaiti, stsong, apple ligothic, baoli, kaiti, lantinghei, libian, songti, wawati, weibei, xingkai, yuanti, yuppi
Japanese: hiragino
Armenian: mshtakan
Ethiopic: kefa
Indic: devanagari, bangla, gurmukhi, gujarati, oriya, tamil, telugu, kannada, malayalam, sinhala,
Myanmar : myanmar

We have a document-level customization solution for Word and are experiencing problems during deployment in an environment running on terminal services. The OS (Windows 2012) is English and Word (2013) is non-English (German).
Installation is done into the "Program Files" folder correctly. But when trying to start a word document linked to the specific template. The "Microsoft Office Customization Installer" pops up with the error.
"There was an error during installation"
From: file:///C:/Programme/[CompanyName]/[Productname]/[Productname].vsto
Downloading file:///c:/Programme/[CompanyName]/[Productname]/[Productname].vsto did not succeed.
Exception: ....
System.Deployment.Application.DeploymentDonwloadException: Download file:///C:/Programme/[Companyname]/Productname]/[Productname].vsto did not suceed. ---> System.Net.WebException: Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Programme\[Companyname]\[Productname]\[Productname].vsto'.
---> System.Net.WebException: ...... ---> System.IO.DirectoyNotFoundException......
The problem seems to be that the installer is looking for C:\PROGRAMME instead of C:\PROGRAM FILES. C:\PROGAMME is the German localized name of PROGRAM FILES (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Program_Files).
The installer installs the solution correctly deployed into c:\program files, but when the later a user tries to start it and the Microsoft Office Customization Installer is called, it tries to access the non-existing "c:\programme" folder. This
doesn't exist, because Windows is English.
Is there any thing related to deploying solutions on a platform which has different languages (mixing/matching of OS language and Office language?)
Thank you for your helpHello,
1. First, I would confirm with you whether you dealt with the localization for your document-level add-in?
2. Did you use this way to define the Create a class that defines the post-deployment action part of Put the document of a solution
onto the end user's computer (document-level customizations only) and did you get the path with Environment.SpecialFolder enum?
To handle this, I would recommend you consider using Environment.SpecialFolder to set that property.

Problem with Non-English Fields Output to PDF by JASPER in JDev10.1.3
I am using jsprx files(designed in i-report) to generate pdf reports out of an oracle database.
The non-English fields are shown correctly when I output the report into an HTML or when I view it with JasperView.
If I try making PDF files (JasperExportManager.exportReportToPdfFile) the static fields containing e.g.Arabic/Chineese characters won't be displayed and dynamic fields from the database with non-English contents will be shown as ??? or null.
I received some suggestions about using PARAMETERS to feed the report instead of FIELDS, which I think can not be helpful in this case and in general.
I think this should be a common problem. These are the components I am using:
itext-1.4.7. jar
commons-digester- 1.7.zip
jasperreports- 1.2.8.jar
Any comment or help is appreciated.
Thanks

[AS] Problem with non English characters in file path
I wrote a script that exports a pdf file from ID, rasterizes it in PS, applies an action, saves it as another pdf file, and finally creates a Mail message, and attaches the file to it (the last part is written in AppleScript).
The problem is that it doesn't work when the path to this file contains non English characters.
This works:
make new attachment with properties {file name:"/Volumes/Macintosh HD/BackUp Tetard/Test.pdf"}
but this doesn't:
make new attachment with properties {file name:"/Volumes/Macintosh HD/BackUp Têtard /Test.pdf"}
I remember vaguely that I read somewhere that AppleScript can work with Unicode — in other words with such characters — starting from some version, don't remember which exactly, but it seems to me — Leopard.
I am on Mac OS X 10.4.11 right now. Will updating solve this problem? Does anybody know any solution to this problem: a scripting addition, some hidden setting, etc.
I made a little test: used a Russian character — ё and it works, but when I use — ê (Dutch) it doesn't. May it have something to do with the Region setting in International panel?
Thanks in advance,
KasyanKasyan, as of Leopard AppleScript treats all text as Unicode pre this you can specify 'as Unicode text'. Try a test with these.
-- Leopard
set x to POSIX path of (path to desktop)
-- Pre Leopard
set x to POSIX path of (path to desktop as Unicode text)
-- Leopard
set x to POSIX path of (choose file without invisibles)
-- Pre Leopard
set x to POSIX path of ((choose file without invisibles) as Unicode text) -
[SOLVED!] On USB drives, problems with non-English chars and HAL
Hello,
I am having a problem with non-English caracters (áãàçéẽê...) on files stored on my USB drive.
On Windows they're created with the correct name. But on Linux the files have the non-English characteres replaced by '?' and are not accessible.
If I manuallly mount the drives using 'mount -o iocharset=utf8 /dev/sdb1 /media/usbdisk' the characters are OK, so I think I just need to get HAL to pass the correct parameters to mount. However I don't know how to do that, and haven't found any good solution.
I tried to build a custom kernel setting the default charset as UTF-8 and it didn't work.
Any ideas? I'm using x86-64, HAL 0.5.13-3 and my locale is pt-BR.UTF-8.
Thanks!
EDIT: Actually, this is not a HAL problem, but a problem with 'exo'. For the solution, I edited /etc/xdg/xfce4/mount.rc and added iocharset=utf8 to the [vfat] category.
Last edited by Renan Birck (2009-11-28 20:54:23)I don't use Thunar presently, but I looked in the Thunar Volume Manager doc and I didn't find anything to change the mount options of removable drives. I am not quite sure if it's possible or not. Maybe someone using it can tell for sure.
But if it is not possible to change the mount options, a possible solution is to disable the Thunar Volume Manager plugin and to use something else more configurable to manage the automount function.
Personally I use the halevt package from AUR which uses configuration files in the xml format.
It's not so easy to use but is highly configurable.
But there exists other tools also.
I can help you with halevt if you choose that way... -
