NOT IN clause in CASE statement condition not working

Dear Friends,
I want to use below condition in WHERE clause of my SELECT statement.
WHERE <...........>
<...........>
AND eihf.exr_aip_asset_sid NOT IN
(CASE when safa.fund_relation = 'C' and safa.fund_account_code != vFundAccount
THEN (37874,37909,43424,55040,59513,59598,58570,76148,75885,75927)
ELSE
(0)
END
But it gives me an error as "missing right parenthis".
Please help.
Regards,
Jignesh

CASE returns one and only one value. It can't return a list. Your satement should be something like:
WHERE <...........>
<...........>
AND (
             safa.fund_relation = 'C'
         AND
             safa.fund_account_code != vFundAccount
         AND
             eihf.exr_aip_asset_sid NOT IN (37874,37909,43424,55040,59513,59598,58570,76148,75885,75927)
     OR
         NOT (
                  safa.fund_relation = 'C'
              AND
                  safa.fund_account_code != vFundAccount
         AND
             eihf.exr_aip_asset_sid != 0
    )SY.

  • CASE not found while executing CASE statement on Submit Form

    Hi to all APEX users and developers.
    I have several APEX applications and they are all working well, but recently I got one strange exception when I try to submit page:

    Almir

    Hi Almir,
    actually it is the 100 page item limit. See (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17556_01/doc/user.40/e15517/limits.htm)
    I also had a look into the source code and the code at the position where the error gets raised only supports 100 page items.
    Can you have a look into the generated HTML code and look if you have a page items which is mapped to p_t101 or a higher number ?
    I will file a bug to show a better error message.

    Patrick

    Thanks

    It looks like SQL Server or Sybase given that you're using getdate().
    As such, Vinesh's comment to use decode is wrong - decode is  Oracle syntax.
    Looking at your statement again, I've noticed the following:
    you have no { to match the first } - not sure why you're using them anyway.
    you haven't given x.market a name - use x.market as market instead
    use coalesce instead of nullif if you're on SQL Server.

    Well, what else did you expect? CASE evaluates brances starting first one. If WHEN condition is not met it continues to next one. As soon as WHEN condition is met, THEN clause is executed after that CASE exits. You need to use IF statement, not case:

  • Evaluation of condition clause in whehe clause using case statement

    Hi,
    I have a scenario where in I have to evaluate two different conditions based on the parameter value. Is it possible to evaluate the conditiond based on the parameter value with case statement in where clause.
    Example:
    select A,B,C,D from X,Y,Z
    where
    cond1 and
    cond2 and
    case when param='T' then cond3 else cond4 end
    Here param is an external parameter passed to the query.
    cond3 is something like Y.deptno in(10,30,50,70)
    cond4 is something like Y.deptno in (20,40,60,70,80,90)
    Your responce will be appriciated.
    Regards,
    Varma

    You can place the case statement as a condition, however it depends what context you want it in, for example;
    this will work:
    1* select 1 from dual where (case when 1=1 then 1 end) = 1 and 2=2
    QL> /
            1
            1but this will not;
    SQL> select 1 from dual where case when 1=1 then 1 end and 2=2;
    select 1 from dual where case when 1=1 then 1 end and 2=2
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-00920: invalid relational operatorSo, if you're expecting the condition to evaluate to a true/false, so if you mean soemthing like
    when TRUE, then it won't work!

  • Count Distinct Wtih CASE Statement - Does not follow aggregation path

    All,
    I have a fact table, a day aggregate and a month aggregate. I have a time hierarchy and the month aggregate is set to the month level, the day aggregate is set to the day level within the time hierarchy.
    When using any measures and a field from my time dimension .. the appropriate aggregate is chosen, ie month & activity count .. month aggregate is used. Day & activity count .. day aggregate is used.
    However - when I use the count distinct aggregate rule .. the request always uses the lowest common denominator. The way I have found to get this to work is to use a logical table source override in the aggregation tab. Once I do this .. it does use the aggregates correctly.
    A few questions
    1. Is this the correct way to use aggregate navigation for the count distinct aggregation rule (using the source override option)? If yes, why is this necessary for count distinct .. what is special about it?
    2. The main problem I have now is that I need to create a simple count measure that has a CASE statement in it. The only way I see to do this is to select the Based on Dimensions checkbox which then allows me to add a CASE statement into my count distinct clause. But now the aggregation issue comes back into play and I can't do the logical table source override when the based on dimensions checkbox is checked .. so I am now stuck .. any help is appreciated.
    K

    Ok - I found a workaround (and maybe the preferred solution for my particular issue), which is - Using a CASE Statement with a COUNT DISTINCT aggregation and still havine AGGREGATE AWARENESS
    To get all three of the requirements above to work I had to do the following:
    - Create the COUNT DISTINCT as normal (counting on a USERID physically mapped column in my case)
    - Now I need to map my fact and aggregates to this column. This is where I got the case statement to work. Instead of trying to put the case statement inside of the Aggregate definition by using the checkbox 'Base on Dimension' (which didnt allow for aggregate awareness for some reason) .. I instead specified the case statement in the Column Mapping section of the Fact and Aggregate tables.
    - Once all the LTS's (facts and aggregates) are mapped .. you still have to define the Logical Table Source overrides in the aggregate tab of the count distinct definition. Add in all the fact and aggregates.
    Now the measure will use my month aggregate when i specify month, the day aggregate when i specify day, etc..
    If you are just trying to use a Count Distinct (no CASE satement needed) with Aggregate Awareness, you just need to use the Logical Table Source override on the aggregate tab.
    There is still a funky issue when using the COUNT aggregate type. As long as you dont map multiple logical table sources to the COUNT column it works fine and as expected. But, if you try to add in multiple sources and aggregate awareness it randomly starts SUMMING everything .. very weird. The blog in this thread says to check the 'Based on Dimension' checkbox to fix the problem but that did not work for me. Still not sure what to do on this one .. but its not currently causing me a problem so I will ignore for now ;)
    Thanks for all the help

  • T-SQL: SET Statement Using a Case Statement is not returning a value

    SQL VER:  2008
    Please see the attached screenshot from SSMS.  The Set statement  below is not returned a value or may be returning a zero value.  The AllocPercent field is set to zero in code preceeding this Update Statement:
    AllocPercent
    =
    CASE
    WHEN AllocBase
    IS
    NULL
    OR AllocBase
    = 0
    THEN 0
    ELSE PM_Input/AllocBase
    END
    As you can see by the screen shot from the Select Statement that is displaying the results after the Update Statement is completed, the value of AllocPercent is = 0 even though all the values necessary for it to compute a value > 0 are present in the
    table.  Incidentally, the values in both the AllocBase and PM_Input fields are the same before the Update Statement is ran, as shown in the Select ran after the Update Statement.
    I have ran this type of code several times with never a problem.  This seems really simple, but I just can't seem to get it to compute.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Yep--This statement is running in a Stored Procedure and inside its own block statement.
    I did get a response that suggested I change the SET statement as follows, that worked:
    AllocPercent
    = CASE WHEN AllocBase IS NULL OR AllocBase = 0 THEN 0.00 ELSE cast(PM_Input*1.0/AllocBase*1.0
     as decimal(6,2)) END
    Your response did get me thinking which was great!  I appreciate your help.

  • "in" clause in case statement

    Hello,
    I want to do something like this:
         select * from ....
            join ....
          where ....
            and case when pparameter = 'D' then (a.column in ('M', 'P'))
                     when pparameter = 'N' then (a.column in ('N', Z'))
                end case
    pparameter is a formal parameter in my procedure, so it does not belong to any table.
    Is it possible to do something like this, using case? I did not find any examples like this..

  • Looking help in Default clause with CASE statement ?

    I have a table perform(timings date , Mor_Eve varchar2(20) )
    Requirements is
    (a) If time in timing column is < 12:00 then automatically insert 'MORNING' in Mor_Eve column
    ELSE
    automatically insert 'EVENING' in Mor_Eve column.
    Is there any way of using default clause in create table that insert Morning or Evening in the Mor_Eve column automatically depending on the Timings column ?

    Hi,
    Welcome to the forum!
    All the responses above are good.
    Why do you need to store this at all?
    If you want to display it automatically, create a view, like this:
    CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW     perform_v
    AS
    SELECT     timings
    ,     CASE     TO_CHAR (timings, 'AM')
             WHEN  'AM'     THEN  'MORNING'
             WHEN  'PM'     THEN  'EVENING'
                   ELSE  'NOT ENTERED'     -- Skip this line if you want NULL
         END     AS mor_eve
    FROM     perform
    ;Always do DML on the table, but query the view when you want to see mor_eve.
    I'm not saying there's no reason to store this; I'm just asking if you have one.
    If you must store it, a DEFAULT clause won't work.
    Starting in Oracle 11, you can have a virtual column. (You can have an index on a virtual column, but why would you want an index on a column that only had 2 values?)
    In any version, you can write a trigger that autmoatically populates the mor_eve column whenever you INSERT or UPDATE.

  • Case statement and Decode function both are not working in Select cursor.

    I have tried both the Case statement and Decode function in Select cursor, but both the things are not working. On the other hand both the things work in just select statement.
    See the first column in select (PAR_FLAG), I need to have this evaluated along with other fields. Can you please suggest some thing to make this work. And also I would like to
    know the reason why decode is not working, I heard some where Case statement do not work with 8i.

    know the reason why decode is not working, I heard some where Case statement do not work with 8i.
    Does this mean you are using 8i? Then scalar sub queries - selects within the select list, are not supported, along with CASE in PL/SQL.

  • CASE STATEMENT ERRORS

    Hi all,
    I have created a PLSQL code which is as follows:
    create or replace procedure case_statement is
    pi constant number(9, 7) := 3.1415927;
    area number(14, 2);
    cursor rad_cursor is
    select * from radius_vals;
    rad_val rad_cursor%rowtype;
    begin
    open rad_cursor;
    loop
    fetch rad_cursor
    into rad_val;
    exit when rad_cursor%notfound;
    area := pi * power(rad_val.radius, 2);
    case
    when rad_val.radius = 3 then
    insert into areas_case values (rad_val.radius, area);
    when rad_val.radius = 4 then
    insert into areas_case values (rad_val.radius, area);
    when rad_val.radius = 10 then
    insert into areas_case values (0, 0);
    else
    raise CASE_NOT_FOUND;
    end case;
    end loop;
    close rad_cursor;
    end case_statement;
    When I execute this code I get these error messages:
    ORA - 06592: CASE not found while executing CASE statement.
    ORA - 06512: at "SCOTT.CASE_STATEMENT" line 24
    ORA - 06512: at line 3
    How do I resolve this problem?

    How do I resolve this problem? Well your code raise CASE_NOT_FOUND in the else clause. So either do something different rad_val.radius is not equal to any of the tested values or give your code an exception handler.
    Cheers, APC

  • Why doesn't this case statement work?

    SELECT
    case when PRODUCTS.PRODUCT_NAME in
    select case when rank() over(order by ( sum(ag.RX_CNT) ) desc) < 6 then ( p.PRODUCT_NAME ) else 'XXXX' END RankedProduct
    FROM
    PAP_MONTHLYTIME_DIM m,
    PAP_PRESCRIPTIONS_DEMOG_AGG ag,
    PRODUCTS p,
    PAP_ENROLLMENT_FLAGS_DIM f
    WHERE
    ( m.MONTHLYTIME_DIM_ID = ag.MONTHLYTIME_DIM_ID )
    AND ( ag.ENROLLMENT_FLAGS_DIM_ID = f.ENROLLMENT_FLAGS_DIM_ID )
    AND ( p.PRODUCT_ID = ag.PRODUCT_DIM_ID )
    AND ( f.ACTIVE_FLAG = 'Y' )
    AND m.CALENDAR_YEAR_MONTH = '2007-04'
    GROUP BY
    m.MONTH_END_DATE,
    p.PRODUCT_NAME
    then
    ( PRODUCTS.PRODUCT_NAME ) else 'All Other' end as ProdNm,
    PRODUCTS.PRODUCT_NAME,
    sum(PAP_PRESCRIPTIONS_DEMOG_AGG.RX_CNT)
    FROM
    PRODUCTS,
    PAP_PRESCRIPTIONS_DEMOG_AGG
    WHERE
    ( PRODUCTS.PRODUCT_ID=PAP_PRESCRIPTIONS_DEMOG_AGG.PRODUCT_DIM_ID )
    GROUP BY
    PRODUCTS.PRODUCT_NAME
    The first case statement is not working properly. First off - I know I can do this without the subquery in the case statement, but it's then tied to the Month and I don't want that.
    The result set of the subquery contains valid product_names that match EXACTLY (I added LTRIM RTRIM just in case), but the ProdNm field still evaluates to "All Other" for them. If I change the subquery to something basic and remove the rank function, it works, but of course I need that function. My understanding is that it shouldn't matter what function is in the subquery. I thought Oracle would get the result set of the subquery first, then evaluate the case statement based on the result set (the subquery is obviously not correlated).
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    My understanding is that it shouldn't matter what function is in the subquery. I thought Oracle would get the result set of the subquery first, then evaluate the case statement based on the result set (the subquery is obviously not correlated). It looks like the queries ARE somehow correlated. Consider the two simplified queries:
    michaels>  SELECT   ename, deptno,
             CASE
                WHEN deptno IN (
                       SELECT CASE
                                 WHEN ROW_NUMBER () OVER (ORDER BY NULL) < 3
                                    THEN deptno
                                 ELSE 1000
                              END
                         FROM dept)
                   THEN 'Found'
                ELSE 'NOT Found'
             END FOUND
        FROM emp
    ORDER BY deptno

                                            THEN deptno
                                         ELSE 1000
                                      END
                                 FROM dept))
                   THEN 'Found'
                ELSE 'NOT Found'
             END FOUND
        FROM emp
    ORDER BY deptno
    ENAME          DEPTNO FOUND

    TURNER             30 NOT Found
    ALLEN              30 NOT Found
    JAMES              30 NOT Found
    BLAKE              30 NOT Found
    MARTIN             30 NOT FoundSo in the first query ROW_NUMBER() evaluates to NULL (not sure why) so the condition will never be satisfied! This is easily proofed when actually testing for nullity:
    WHEN ROWNUM() OVER (ORDER BY NULL) IS NULL THEN
    ...will always show 'Found'!
    Inlining the subquery »materializes« it, and ROW_NUMBER() gets the desired value.

  • ABAP - Case Statement

    Hi ABAPers,
    I have an ABAP code just like the pseudo code below.
    Case Val.
    When 'A'.
    <Some Conditional Statements>.
    When 'B'.
    <Some Statements>.
    endcase.
    A and B values are depend on 'Val'.
    My program executes the above code almost everytime. when the conditional statement of Case (A) is successful, then I dont want my program to execute the case(B).
    When the conditional statement of case(A) is unsuccessful, then only i want to execute case (B). Can anyone please tell me how to correct my code to suit the above situation.
    Thanks,

    Why case statement does  not support for small alphabet letters ( a, b, c,..z) ?
    here i have attached some code .. this is not working for small letters but works for caps letter.
    what is the reason . ?
    PARAMETERS: uname(10) TYPE C.
    CASE uname.
       WHEN 'karthi'.  " but work for caps letter . when 'KARTHI'.
         WRITE: ' user name is' ,uname.
       WHEN OTHERS.
         WRITE 'Your name is not karthi'.
    ENDCASE.
    Thank you friends

  • Update with case statement problem.

    Hi,
    I have this statement
    update tab_tr set col_rate =
      case
      when col_ern_type in ('031','035','036') then (1.5 * col_rate)
      when col_ern_type in ('041','045','046') then (2 * col_rate)
    end;this statement updated some 2 million rows in the table tab_tr. But the total count of rows for col_ern_type in ('031','035','036', '041','045','046') yeild only around 222642 rows.
    select count(*) from tab_tr where col_ern_type in ('031','035','036', '041','045','046');  --> 222642 rowswhat is the problem with the above update statement.
    Thank you,

    Hi,
    DBA_1976 wrote:
    ... I thought the case statement conditions are counted as the where condition. But ......A CASE expression just takes the place of some other expression, such as a literal, a function, or a column.
    For example, which rows do you think this should update?
    UPDATE  tab_tr
    SET     col_rate  = 100;It would update all rows, of course.
    How about this statement?
    UPDATE  tab_tr
    SET     col_rate  = column_x;Will it only change the rows where column_x are a certain value, or not NULL, or in any way depend on column_x? No, of course not. It will update all rows.
    How about this statement?
    UPDATE  tab_tr
    SET     col_rate  = function_y (col_ern_type);Will it only change the rows where the fucntion returns a certain value? Will it depend on the value in col_ern_type? No, of course not. It calls the function for each row, and whatever the function returns (even if the function returns NULL), that's what goes into col_rate on each row.
    A CASE expression is just something that you can substitute in place of any other expression, such as the literal 100, or the column column_x, or the function function_y in the statements above. Naturally, the value that gets put into col_rate will depend on what the CASE expression returns, but the behavior of the UPDATE statement as a whole will not.
