Not normal cpu usage when playing video files

Hi guys !
I've noticed that when playing videos (with every player , i've tried them all) there is a noticable cpu usage and with hd videos well the video is extremeley slow and unwatchable .
I have all the gstreamer plugins installed and i'm using gnome environment .
Does anyone know what might be the issue ?

Yes. You can put all of your personal default settings in the file ~/.mplayer/config. If it doesn't already exist, just create it. On my VDPAU enabled system it looks like this:
[default]
vo=vdpau,xv,
deint=4
hqscaling=9
vc=ffh264vdpau,ffmpeg12vdpau,ffwmv3vdpau,ffvc1vdpau,
channels=2
As far as subtitles go, I never use them so I have no idea.

  • High CPU usage when playing flv files with flash

    As more and more FLV videos are moving to HD, I'm noticing
    high CPU usage and lots of dropped frames when playing FLV video in
    web browser with Flash 10. This is true even if the video isn't
    full screen. I've tried a variety of browsers (Firefox, I.E.,
    Chrome) and the problem occurs on all of them so it's pretty clear
    it's a limitation in Flash.
    Now my PC isn't high end (it has a Pentium M 1.86 GHz
    processor), but I can take those same FLV files and load them in
    something like Media Player Classic or Windows Media Player (when
    using ffdshow) and play the FLV files full screen with little or no
    drop in frames and an acceptable CPU rate.
    This is especially annoying on sites like YouTube where I
    actually have to save the video and play it back in something other
    than Flash to have it play back at an acceptable rate. This doesn't
    work for other sites like Amazon.
    Why is the CPU usage so high when decoding and displaying
    videos when compared to other media players?

    I've been doing research about this excessively high CPU usage problem (100%!) for weeks because I have also experienced it with my vista home premium laptop. Just recently, I have finally found the solution. The problem is not your browser or your OS or your pc's memory. The problem is caused by authorization for flash player.
    Read the link (posted below) carefully and follow the steps accordingly. If you have already done steps 1 through 6 with your computer, you can go straight to step 7.

    PS: I am not the author of that link, so please thank the respective site owner if you find the procedure very helpful.
    Please let me know also if the link solves your problem. I am sharing this because Adobe seems unable to provide solutions to this, and I don't want to hear people suffer.

  • High CPU usage when playing flv files with VideoDisplay

    Hi all,
    Now i develop a project with VideoDisplay, my problem is when i play f4v file, my CPU usage is very high.., I also play the same file with Adobe Media Player, the problem is still exist.
    Can anybody help me ~? thanks~,and sorry for my poor english~

    I'm pretty sure one reason is that Flash "watches" the video so it can sync up the frames with other animations you might want to overlay.

  • High CPU Usage when playing videos

    I have exactly the same problem. I search all around and a lot, i mean a LOT of people is having the same problem, what is going on with Adobe Flash Player? Every video, specially in Youtube, i just can't watch 720p videos, because the CPU reach the 100%, all is good in my PC, it's just the Adobe Flash Player that have some kind of problem, i don't know what to do or where to search anymore for a solution. This is getting frustrating.

    it's high memory usage and for some reason i got put in this thread and my original one never got update i am using hardware acceleration.....www.twitch.tv go watch any of the livestreams there

    I think those are the only relevant things in the log file, everything before that is at an older time and I think is a log from when I ran "startx". I think this is the first time I've run video since updating catalyst-utils. Web video (eg YouTube) plays fine and doesn't cause any problems. I've tried reinstalling catalyst-utils and still have the same problems. The version is 14.1-1.
    Any ideas on what I should try? Also, is there an easy way to switch to the open source driver, and then back to catalyst if that doesn't work? I tried using the open source one for a while but had issues so started using catalyst, but it's possible the issues I had with the foss one are now fixed.
    Edit: I managed to install the FOSS drivers and all problems I formerly had with my 6970 are now fixed. This is a better solution than I could have hoped for, since I had been having a few problems with catalyst before the segfaulting started, and I'm having none of them with xf68-video-ati. And, full resolution from before I start X!

    Yes. You can put all of your personal default settings in the file ~/.mplayer/config. If it doesn't already exist, just create it. On my VDPAU enabled system it looks like this:
    [default]
    vo=vdpau,xv,
    deint=4
    hqscaling=9
    vc=ffh264vdpau,ffmpeg12vdpau,ffwmv3vdpau,ffvc1vdpau,
    channels=2
    As far as subtitles go, I never use them so I have no idea.

  • How can i reduce CPU usage while playing video?

    Hi,
    I have recently finished and then published a  project to my desktop which is a video jukebox application. The  application plays music videos in a large popup window upon a button  click. The problem i have is that when the video is not playing the CPU  usage on my windows machine runs at about 15% on average, however once  the video is playing in the popup the CPU usage jumps to almost 90-100%.
    I  have seen some of the developements introduced in Flash 10.2 in regard  to Stage Video and was wondering if this could maybe fix my problem. At  present my application is running on AIR 1.5 with Flash Player 9. If I  simply install the latest versions of AIR and Flash Player and try  running my published project again will this be enough to improve the  video performance? Or do I need to change the settings of my project  within Flex Builder so that it uses the latest version Flash?
    Any advise would be great.
    Thanks
    Adam

    StageVideo is still not available for AIR and until then it appears nothing can be done about this problem.

  • My Mac book pro pauses and choles when playing video files

    Hi guys.
    I have a mac book pro 13 months old. I have been using it successfully with final cut studio 2 for a while now. But now it will not play vdeo files without choking all the time. This is with all applications like a canvas in FCP, a QT movie, even avi files when viewed in movie maker on paralells. I have done a sweep with "OnyX" but no improvement.
    I have empties the trash even.

    68 GB free is more than enough for the system to write its temporary files.
    External storage is always the better option for media. Are you at least using a FireWire drive?
    Do you surf the web whilst watching movies and burning DVDs and playing a 3D shooter?
    That could take its toll.
    Run Disk Utility > Verify Disk on your internal drive. Post back if it reports errors that can't be fixed.
    Quote exactly what you see in the Disk Utility window.

    HI,
    How much free space is on the MBPro drive?
    Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times. Not enough drive space can result in problems like you are experiencing.
    Also, check the hard disk just in case.
    Insert the installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
    Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
    Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
    Select First Aid in the Main panel.
    (Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
    Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
    If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
    If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
    When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
    Select your start up disk and click Restart

  • Crackling sound when playing video files with X-Fi Elite

    Hello,
    I have a Creative X-Fi Elite Pro running on a Windows Vista Ultimate system that have the Gigaworks S750 Speakers connected to them.
    I noticed today when trying to play a video file that there was constant crackling in the background throughout the file. To try to isolate the problem, I tried a different file, and have found that this happens with ALL video files. Audio playback on mp3s or CDs is OK.
    I'm using Entertainment Mode, EAX effects set to Theater, CMSS enabled and Crystallizer disabled, and all other settings as default. The configuration is set to 7. to match my Gigaworks speakers.
    I have tried using both the latest and latest beta drivers for the card, without success.
    Any help to resolve these problems would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
    H.

    Thank you for the response. I have checked it, and it says (i've dutch language) something i would translate to English as "System sound output". Is that preference for all discs? I would assume so. But DVD-player plays some discs without sound, and some with sound. So maybe it is codec related? But i would not know how to check that... (when i try to see what codec, audio says it is dts, and i assume dts audio should be no problem?)

  • Elements 13 crash when playing video files

    I just installed Photoshop elements 13 and Premiere Elements 13. When I try to playback video files in Photoshop elements 13 it crashes. When playing the same files in Premiere elements 13 it works nicely.
    It worked in PE12. It also works in QuickTime

    Hi there,
    maybe you should first make a driver-rollback to see if its really driver related. If yes, then try these one:
    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/
    (But please READ the FAQ before doing anything!)
    Otherwise I would recommend you to download a codec pack like k-lite and try it again (www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm)

  • N200 power is suddenly down when playing video files, or just browsing

    Hi,
    I have Lenovo 3000 N200 (type 0769) purchased 1 year ago.
    Recently installed windows 7 beta on it (before I used windows xp sp3) I noticed some problems which I suspect have to do with hardware stuff (battery, power supply, overheating, etc) rather than software.
    My notebook just crashes all of sudden powering down as it was on batteries only and they ran out. But I am always pluged in.
    My warranty is expired, just wanted to know if you could help me with my problem, or should I just throw this notebook and buy a decent one?

    registoni,
    Welcome to the forum.
    Lot of possible variables.. software perhaps. Does the system behave the same way under Win 7 as it did under XP?
    Power - Will the system run on just the battery at all?  If it shuts down if you remove the power cord, then probably the battery is defective and I would suggest you replace it.  The N100 systems seem to be much more stable when they have a good battery - the N200 could behave in similar fashion.   I might also suggest checking the output of the DC adpater at the plug that goes into the notebook.  It should be about 20V DC.
    When you launch applications, or play a video, the power demand will momentarily spike and either of these could cause the shut down if the available voltage suddenly drops.
    Overheat?   You didn't mention whether these symptoms occur more often (or always) after the system has been running for a while or immediately upon start up.   You could check to ensure the fan is running properly and that warm air is exiting the side vent properly.   The heat sink on the output side of the fan can load up with dust and link, especially if the system were often operated on a bed or other fabric surface.
    Best regards,
    Mark

  • High CPU usage when graphics card is put at work

    I have a 13inch Air with 2GB RAM and 256GB  with Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. All possible updates have been installed.
    I noticed some tearing when trying to move program windows across the screen so I started checking the CPU usage. I saw that it is spiking to 25-35% when moving a window across the screen.When you drag down a window you can see the different copies of the top bar across the screen. Not smooth at all like on a standard PC windows system. Same issue when scrolling through webpages which spikes the cpu
    I also noticed a high cpu usage when playing mkv files 25-30% while on an Atom HTPC i get a lower load playing the same file. The Air should be faster than an atom with a nvidia 9400m when playing video files.
    I already tried updating the nvidia files to the latest version on their site by hacking the driver inf but this did not resolve the issue.
    Has anyone experienced the same or know what could be causing the beavior?
    Many thanks

    Maybe my initial post was not clear so let me add some clarifications.
    I have the problem with Aero disabled
    I have the problem on the Apple site which does not have any flash content.
    I have already hacked the lastest nvidia drivers to get them on my system which did not change anything. Can you provide a link to some other 'supported' beta drivers?
    I am using the new 13 inch air so it has the newer graphics card so I would expect it to be faster than an old HTPC with a 9400m in it. I wasn't stating that my Air had a 9400m.
    It would be great if someone you also do the test to check the cpu load:
    - when playing a 720 mkv
    - when dragging a window across the screen
    Just open task manager and see if the CPU spikes.
    Many thanks!

  • Low cpu usage when exporting

    Is it normal to have only 4-12% of cpu usage when exporting video out of ae? I´m exporting it from render queue.
    My computer is 2x dual 3,0 ghz prosessor, 8 gb ram, nvidia 8600 gt in xp professional x64
    thanks

    As Jonas suggested, CPU utilization may be somewhat low because the bottleneck isn't the processing of the data but moving (reading and writing) it.
    I'm not saying that this is necessarily what's going on for you, but it's worth pointing out that the CPU is often not the bottleneck.
    If disk I/O is what's slowing you down, one way that you can speed things up is to use three disks for your work: one to run the program from, one to store input assets, and one to write output files to.
    There are a lot of tips for improving performance in the
    "Improve performance" section of After Effects CS3 Help on the Web.
