Not renewing .mac account. Suggestions for an alternative?

Any suggestions to free alternatives to a .mac account. I have let mine expire because I did not feel I got US$100 value from it. I only really used the email and parking images for public posts, such as here in the forums.
I now use SyncTogether to sync the Macs on my home network.

I haven't used .mac since it was iTools and from what I've read it's long over due a decent update but it may be worth $80 try Amazon or on a more adhoc basis no more than $75 eBay to you.
Although I'm not big into it yet I've started trying many of Google's online services (Email, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Calendar etc etc) which are looking better and better all the time.
If you're considering an iPhone then remember Yahoo will be providing free push email.
My ISP provides a small web hosting facilty in the price where I host my AD images; if yours doesn't try Flickr, Photobucket or Twango...

I waste a lot of time entering information because you can't go to a specific day and enter information, nor can you navigate between months and add information on a specific date by clicking on the date. You can't easily scroll month-to-month and once you do by scrolling through nine months to get to where you want to be, you cannot enter information by clicking on a specific day in the month and entering information. I just called Apple and they verified that this is the way it works. You cannot go to a date and enter information, you keep getting thrown back to today and then you have to go into the calendar and change it manually on the screen. It is just not efficient.

I am trying to give some account number in open / close posting period window. From acount field (Lower limit of the G/L account numbers ) is not accepting the value. I have also tried with ZZZZZ and many other options. Can any one help what could be he reason ?

Eg: I want to give some privileges to one of the users in Management to open and close the posting period for all the nominals for all posting periods.

Hi,
1, For account group the error may be comimg because already data is created. In lower limit donot enter ZZZZZ as it is considered as the highest value. You can try the lowest account number.
2. Creating a role is job of bais based on the FICO tcode given by FICO consultant. For special privilages to a role you can ask to basis guy to create a separate role and assign to user.

one of the G/L accounts for which you have specified in revenue accoutn determination (T code -VKOA) has a setting which requires assignment ot a CO object.
check for the g/accounts detremined, goto FS00 enter the g/l account and the company code
Click on the Edit cost element tab. chcek the entries there, if ther is a entry it means cost assignemtn is reuqired
check with the FICo consultant , if this is really requried and what is the object desired.
based on that , you can have the object , if it si related to sales order then WBS element, internal order etc can be input

In the attached screen shot , It is assumed that above error appeared while attempting to input an account no: in "From account column," "in the first row", (where the account type is +),
The logic behind zzzzz character input in the 'To account ' field is
"Upper limit of the G/L account numbers for which the subsequent posting periods are allowed."
Instead of finding the G/L account with highest numerical value in the Chart of Accounts, an "zzzzz" input will meet the requirement.
So when From blank To infinite account no: is taken care, there is NO logic to input a specific g/l account no: in the From column.
However if one try to input an account no; the above mentioned error will appear.

How do I publish after renewing .mac account?

IWeb was working fine until I had to renew my .mac account now when I hit the publish button a window pops up that tells me to either test drive a .mac account or if Im already a member to sign in. When I go to my system pref. it already has my info. Anyone have any ideas?

An interesting post, my .mac runs out in five days and I get a .mac splash screen each time after I have published telling me how long I have left. It alos includes a Renew button, even though I have enterd all the details for auto renew. Hmmmmm!

Publishing a video podcast using a server that is not a .MAC Account

Ok. So I created my own video on my Final Cut Pro. I'd like to publish it to the iTunes Store, but it's asking me for a URL that contains an RSS feed. I don't have a .Mac account but I do have my own with another company. What do I need to do in order to get the url and rss feed and while I use my own server?

There is not reason why you shouldn't host the podcast and its RSS file on any server, provided that the server is configured to handle the file format: some aren't where video is concerned and the result is a garbage text file. You need to check this with your ISP.
That done all you need to do is give the iTunes store the URL of the RSS file, which contains the UTRL of the podcast (so you don't need to give iTunes the podcast URTL separately).

Feedback on Captivate as alternative to Authorware, or suggestions for better alternative?

I've been using Authorware for a number of years to create questionnaires for research studies...and I'm glad it still works on Windows 7 and we're going to test our applications on a Windows-based tablet soon.
But I know I will need to find a new solution for a development tool as technology moves forward.
I've seen suggestions to head towards Captivate. We purchased a copy and I've been testing it.
I'm learning that Captivate does not support arrays, and will only support a limited number of user-defined variables (although I haven't received a clear answer as to the exact number....but the estimates I was given were really small). In Authorware, we've created systems that use 3000+ variables using arrays and have had no problems.
From the Captivate forum, I'm learning that it appears that there is not a simple way to export data to a text file on the computer (like Authorware's WriteExtFile and AppendExtFile). I'm told I need to have an internet connection, and set up a LMS (learning management system).
Our projects are research studies, so we're not grading or scoring...we just need to capture the answers that people provide and write that data to a text file.
Two different people suggested that SurveyMonkey would be the better option.
We would prefer a solution that allows for the creation of a standalone executable file with a nice graphical user interface, audio, easy data handling, and not be required to have an internet connection, etc.
As Authorware users, would any of you have a suggestion for an Adobe (or other) product? Or should I just learn Captivate and grow with it and hope some better features are added in the future?

Yeah, it'll be a while, I think, before CP is anywhere close to the capabilties of Authorware. If you want the 'ease' of Captivate, you likely have to rethink how your product will work. Overall, filesystem access is going to be a challenge - very little software seems to allow that these days, and understandably so considering security issues.
Lectora may be the best more for you, all that said. I'm not positive they allow filesystem access (write text files) but I think so. It's also not Flash-based, so if you do want to move to mobile delivery without Flash plugin support issues, well, there ya go.
On the other hand, I believe Adobe's AIR product (method of bundling a Flash application for local playback) may now allow filesystem access, so if you can pick up Flash or Flex, publishing to an AIR application may be an option.
OR you could try to get a Flash Widget made that you insert into CP to handle the text file writing, though that doesn't get you around the custom variable limit...
...BUT do note that CP can call JS functions in the parent HTML window, so you might be able to do what you want, as far as variables go, by creating the functions, values, etc. in JS then have CP call those functions...?
All that said, Xerte may be a good option for you. It's got quite an underground (i.e. quiet) following:

It's designed to be an Authorware replacement in design and form, though I've not touched it in years so have no idea how far it's progressed (the support listserve is pretty active though).

A case for porting the organizer to Mac - and suggestions for alternatives

I think that Adobe has really missed a market opportunity in not porting/including the organizer with the mac version of elements. After a week of intermittent searching, I have found that I am far from the only person in my situation, and there does not seem to be a simple, relatively inexpensive, and at least somewhat automated solution.
I was a longtime PC user, decided a year ago to try a mac (macbook pro) and have been generally happy with the decision (a few complaints like lack of a real maximize button, no easy way to tile windows, lack of the snap feature ... and sorry fanboys, but just because apple did not decide to implement something does NOT mean that the feature carries no merit). My wife retains her PC laptop, and I have them networked through wi-fi at the house. We have been longtime users of elements and back when we both had windows (and elements on each), keeping the library on a NAS was fairly easy. Initially the folder on the NAS was simply set as the location for the originals uploaded from either laptop, with that folder set as a watch folder in both copies of elements and photos imported to each laptop/copy of elements. This lead to different libraries on each laptop (ie the crops/edits/tags were different) but at least the core library of originals on each computer was the same. I then tried keeping the library for both laptops on the NAS (they were sharing the same file) and this worked fair, but did not like that if you took one laptop on vacation, that laptop would only be able to show thumbnails as the full library was not stored locally. I believe it is/was possible to keep a master library on the NAS and have mulitple copies of elements sync to the same file - but I was never able to achieve this...and then I got the mac and stopped trying.
So now I have a multiple OS network, and trying to keep the photos organized is proving near impossible. My current solution is to TRY to bring all the photos into the system through iphoto on the mac, export the keepers to a file on the NAS which has been set as a watch folder on my wifes PC/elements. This does not set well with my wife, as she does not like having to find my mac to get photos off the camera, and besides it is really irksome to have to do 2 full sets of tagging/editing, and the automation in this system is essentially nil. The only fairly elegant solutions I have found involve $200-500 digital asset management software. Having the organizer on the mac would be a large step toward a solution as the database of metadata (beyond simple exif data) would be in the same format across platforms. The number of people with multiple OS home networks is only going to to continue to grow, and an elegant, relatively inexpensive solution to the above problems would find a large market.
Soooo... after all that, what have others done in the same situation? I am not particularly interested in cloud solutions, as so far the speed issues seem prohibitive and I am still somewhat concerned about privacy.

The MacPro is not a small tower. I don't think it will fit in a standard 19" rack case on it's side, even if you hack-sawed off the feet and handles (and who'd want to do that?!)

FBL3N does not show archived accounting document for all of itsG/L accounts

Hi,
An accounting doc has two line items (G/L accounts) for a given company code and fiscal year. The accounting doc is archived. When we view each G/L account in FBL3N, for one G/L account, the archived document is displayed but for another, it is not displayed. Line item selection is "All items" in FBL3N.
Can you let me know what can be the reason for this. I have checked in SARI, the document is archived properly with both line items.

Keychain Issue for the password for my mac account.

Keychain Issue. Keeps asking for the password for my mac account. When i type it, i keep getting "rejected the password. But it is the correct one. Verified in keychain access. "The .Mac server 'mail.mac.com' rejected the password for user XXXXXXXX. Please reenter your password, or cancel."

But may I ask why you're using separate servers for in & out?
I don't know the answer to that. For many years, it's always been set up like that. I have never changed anything.
Should i delete the .mac mail account & set it up again? If so, What servers should i use for incoming & outgoing?
Keep in mind i'm having the same issue on my desktop & laptop, both running tiger 10.4.11, as far as they will upgrade.
I do have a laptop running Lion, but that shows an icloud account, not a .mac account like the older computers. It also has a bellsouth account with the password that is correct and a gmail account which is working fine.

For example, I have a single .MAC account and create a website with multiple Podcast pages...or within iWeb I create multiple sites, and each has a podcast.

Its not possible for the same development object. Only 1 person can access an object at a time and if mutiple users modify an object new TASKs are created under the same TRANSPORT.
Only after releasing the tr you can create a new tr on the same object.

Accounting document for Excise Invoice

Hi,
Accounting Document generated for Excise Condition types.We do not want to generate Accounting document for Excise Invoice.
We have marked the Excise Condition types JEXP,JECP,JA1X as Stastical in Pricing procedure & also not assigned the Account Keys for the same.
How to make other settings for non generation of Accounting document for Excise Invoice.It's a Domestic scenario.

Instead of creating the Excise Group i have created the Sub Trasaction type (DS) ETT Type DLFC.
In SPRO Specified the Excise Account per Excise Transaction DLFC & DS.
Also Specified G/L Accounts per Excise Transactions.
Excise Grp (P2),ETT (DLFC),Company Code (MU51),Chart of Accts(XXX),all the G/L Accounts kept BLANK.
While creating the Excise Invoice thor.J1IIN,if i put Sub Transaction type DS then the system gives the following error.
Excise modvat accounts not defined for DLFC transaction and excise group
Message no. 8I402

Mail won't show messages from my .Mac account

I have set up 5 accounts in Mail. Two of these accounts are .Mac mail accounts and the other 3 are verizon accounts. When I receive an email in any account, the Mail icon bounces on my desktop and makes its alert sound. I can check the 5 inboxes and retrieve messages from the verizon accounts, but not the .Mac accounts. The .Mac inboxes will tell me how many messages I have in those accounts, but I cannot read them in Mail. I have to do go Mac.com to read these messages! The Mac accounts are enabled. All of the accounts were set up before the new Mail came out and Mail worked fine until then, but I have not been able to read my messages in Mail from the .Mac accounts since the new version of Mail. Is this a common problem and is there something I can do to fix my inability to read these messages in Mail?

Let’s check whether the rules could have a bearing on this:
1. Quit Mail.
2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/.
3. Locate MessageRules.plist and move it to the Desktop. If there is a file called MessageRules.plist.backup, move it to the Desktop too. You may also see MessageSorting.plist files there; this is where Mail 1.x stored the rules, and they are no longer used by Mail 2.x, so just move them to the Trash if you see them.
4. Open Mail. As a result of removing the rules file, the junk filter will be disabled now. You may want to either tell Mail to go offline immediately after opening it, or shut down the Internet connection before opening Mail, to prevent it from downloading anything until the junk mail filter has been enabled again.
5. Go to Mail > Preferences > Junk Mail, enable junk filtering, and configure it however you wish.
6. Go online again if you went offline in step 4.
If the problem persists after doing this, then you know the rules have no bearing on it, and you may move the files on the Desktop back to the ~/Library/Mail/ folder, overwriting any files Mail may have created anew there (quit Mail first).
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

Using .Mac as IMAP NOT Selecting .Mac (which uses IMAP)

Let me explain what I mean.
I have a domain, lets say "mydomain.com" And so my email address is "[email protected]".
I have emails sent from this email address to my .Mac email account (since it has a great new interface). My domain supports IMAP as does .Mac
I set up my account in mail.app by selecting .MAC (not POP or IMAP) I typed in mail.mac.com as the incoming mail server. And selected sync with imap, and typed "INBOX" for the IMAP Prefrix.
My outgoing mail server I had smtp.mac.com
So far so good, I get all my mail forwarded from [email protected] to my .mac account. However when I send emails from mail.app it says it comes from my .Mac account, (which I do not want.)
Under account settings I changed the field that says Email address, to [email protected] but everytime I save it, it goes back to the .mac address.
I then changed my outgoing mail server to my domain info instead, but it will still not allow me to change who the emails are coming from.
So I tried yet another option, I created an IMAP account in mail.app, rather than a .MAC account. For incoming mail info, I put all the .mac info, that is mail.mac.com, and .mac login and password. Also now it lets me save my domain email address [email protected] And it let me save my outgoing info for my domain.
So I thought it would all work now, but when I try to get mail it says IMAP server "mail.mac.com" rejected the password for user "[email protected]"
And the password is definetly correct.
So what do i do?
The only other work around I found is:
To have my .MAC account set up normally, and have a separate account for my domain info. Which all makes sense execpt for the fact none of my sent messages are uploaded to .MAC online which defeats the whole purpose.
As you can see I have thought all about this, but am at a loss. Any help would be most appreaciated.

If I’ve understood it correctly, this should work, i.e. you must have done something wrong (other than the IMAP Path Prefix). That said, if the account is also set up as .Mac, you should disable Preferences > Advanced > Include when automatically checking for new mail, which in turn would avoid the problem altogether.
