NSM 3.1.1, New users not managed.

When new users are added to a context with a User Home Folder policy the new users are unmanaged.
This is a new 3.1.1.15 install. If I right-click the user and select User Actions -> Manage it will create the storage and set the rights per the policy.
What am I missing?
Thanks,
David.

So it was a simple over-site ( read as a dumb mistake ) the Event Servers and Agent Servers on the Configure tab were not Authorized...
Thanks for your help,
David.

  • New Users Not Appearing On Login List - Help!

    Hello Mac geniuses,
I run a 10.3.9 network in an elementary school, and I since returning from summer vacation I have had problems with many of my client eMacs not displaying the names of users I have added in WGM. These eMacs are also still displaying the names of accounts I have deleted.
If anyone is kind enough to help a stranger, I have copied below the transcripts of my email exchanges with an Apple tech, in my struggle to get my school functioning again. (I have placed them in the correct order so the 1st email is on top and the last on bottom. The tech's name is John and I am using "Jon" to make it slightly less confusing!).
My very grateful thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.

I tried deleting the MCX cache via NetInfoManager on the clients, and even restarted the server, but it has not affected several machines.
    Any advice?

When working with NetInfo, which we are and hope to have some more articles on in the near future, it is important to know
how to back up to a previous version of your database.
    1. First, the most brutal way of recovering from a nonfunctional database.
Boot into single user mode by holding down the "s" key while starting up. Follow the handy instructions Apple gives you at the end of the startup sequence and run fsck. Then mount the system root disk as read/write with:
    mount -uw /
Now you can get on with recreating your database in a very brutal way. Remove your current database with:
    rm -rf /var/db/netinfo/local.nidb
Now remove the file that prevents the Setup Assistant from running:
    m /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
And now reboot to get things rolling.
    reboot
This will cause the Setup Assistant to launch, complete with music and bouncing blue blobs. If you remember which account you set up first when you last saw this screen, set up that account now. Otherwise, go with whatever you want for your first
Administrator account. If you match it up with the original Administrator account, all of your permissions should be groovy.
Otherwise, get familiar with chown and chmod and you will be able to set things right.
The above method is rather draconian and isn't for times when you need to replace a complicated NetInfo setup, but should work perfectly well for an essentially single user machine. However that probably rules out most Servers.

I performed that protocol, but even that didn't fix the problem!
I know I've heard someone once suggest (in a moment of resignation) that I just use the blank name and password fields at login, but this is not really an option in elementary school. I only have 478 users in WGM, so I can't believe that would be too taxing for OS X Server!
Thanks again for your thoughts on this.

John, we're talking about 23 computers here - re-imaging is not an option for me alone unless I have some technical assistance (I don't know how to 'ghost' images across a network).
I was managing the users by Groups though I did have a list of the computers called "lab computers". I just noticed that when I try accessing the Computers tab in WGM (whether on my teacher's station or on the server itself) I get the same error message:
    Got Unexpected Errror
Error of type -14136 on line 432 of
    ComputerListPluginView.mm
    Please advise!
    Thank you again,

The list of users is a plist file and should be at at /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow.plist on the clients. See this thread for more information:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2368769&#2368769
If you've got a good plist from a client that sees the right users, you should be able to copy it over. If not, try backing up the file from one client and then deleting it and restarting.

  • New users not showing up while trying to set folder permission settings

    Server 2012
This is a new virtual domain server and file server in a starwind cluster, I just started migrating users last week.
This last weekend (two days ago) the cluster crashed while doing windows updates on this server. I have been unable to get it to download any updates since without crashing, not sure if that is related to this issue somehow.
I added some new users today and got them all logged in and their data transferred over. good. But then I went to this shared folder that everyone has a mapped drive too and tried to add them in the security tab of a sub folder but their accounts will not show
up when I search for them. Any account I added previously to last weekend  show up, students, mine, etc.
even if I select the exact OU the accounts are located in, even if I type their whole name and domain. In AD the accounts are there.
If I log into the backup domain controller Their accounts show up there while in a folder security settings tab. They are listed in active directory on both domain controllers.
I have exhausted myself on Google search.
What the heck did I break?
    Maybe I should run
    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Not sure if I will lose any data doing that or what the repercussions would be..

  • New user not authenticating, can't change/use root access

    I have a two-fold problem.
First, I'm am unable to add any new users to my standalone server. Actually, I can add them but they won't authenticate. Am using File Services, AFP and SMB, and Web services for sharing iCals. No home directories, no NetBoot, no Open Directory Master, local users only. Pretty simple setup.
Second issue, which I'm thinking might be related, is that I have no System Admin (root) access to the server. I do have admin access to local directory. Tried to set root access starting up from OS DVD and it seemed to "take" but after restarting, Xserve does not recognize the newly set password (or the old one for that matter.)

    Hi,
When I create a new user in AD, it is not getting populated in OID. Though when I modify some attrubutes for the existing user, it gets sync with OID.
    What am I missing?
ActiveChgImp is the only profile which is enabled.

    1) Check that the new user created in AD is in the containers to be SYNC to OID, the mapping rules are defined in the session of DomainRules in ActiveChgImp.map file. This may be the cause, it happened to us two years ago.
    2) check log file at $ORACLE_HOME/ldap/odi/log/ActiveChgImp.trc + ActiveChgImp.aud

  • New User not creating properly.

Mac mini(mid 2010), running Mavericks 10.9.5. I am trying to create a new user, and have tried several times with out success . Once created I shut down and restart logging on as that user the initial set up screens run Apple ID then  set up but when the desktop appears I am left with a non working user interface, No Ikons in the Dock, or sometimes no dock and a flashing screen changing from grey to desktop picture. I have deleted the User in system preferences with a secure erase and tired to recreate. Each time I get the same thing or a variant of it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do a backup. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors.  Then re-install the OS.

I just tried to add my daughter as a user on my computer. It's not the first time I've done it, but on a different computer. I log out, log her in, and then I just get the little blue dot in the upper right corner and it won't go any further. Suggestions?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   also have a G4 eMac and a G3 Powerbook

Just letting you know that you are not alone. We have also had many times where the login account is ok and working fine and then we get the blue screen of death and the little spotlight magnifier showing in the upper right corner. Very frustrating. The main account never seems to be affected. To get around this, you can create multiple accounts. Eventually one of them will let you login. But be aware of the blue screen eventually.

  • New Users can't access mail, "Access" granted but still not working! Help!

I am running snow leopard 10.6.6 and I am having an issue where new users cannot log onto their mail accounts from programs nor the web. Though their mailboxes are set up and recieving email just fine. There logins work everywhere else (wiki, blogs, workstations), but when trying to login to mail they get that the username or password is incorrect.
This does not affect the admin. And we have enabled access in the services area of server admin as well as restarted the server. Any other help? I searched and saw that solution but no others. Any help?
It's running on a Mac mini server

Ok I always like to close out my posts. For my new users not being able to login for Mail. The issue with the IMAP with mail clients was resolved by a repair of disk permissions & a restart. Not sure what happened there 100%. But saw that tip in another thread.
Post that, I was still unable to log into webmail for users. They were getting an error:
ERROR Error connecting to IMAP server: localhost. 61 : Connection refused
This was caused by the fact that i set IMAP to REQUIRE SSL, but for some reason Squirrel Mail did not reconfigure itself to match those settings. So to do that, you have to use terminal to put up an admin for Squirrelmail.
    Enter
    sudo /usr/share/squirrelmail/config/conf.pl
this pulls up an easy config menu for Squirrel mail. I needed to change two things, under SERVER SETTINGS, then UPDATE IMAP SETTINGS, then you have to change both IMAP PORT to 993 and SECURE IMAP to YES. Save and Quit ad you are up and running.
Hope this helps the next person!

  • How can I add a new user to my managed account?

*There is an existing skype user.  i.e She already has a skype account
*I have a Skype Manager account and want to provide her with SkypeCredit
*I am having trouble doing that.  It seems that I can add a new member to my group only if they are a new user (i.e. they get a new skype address). Then I seem to have learned that this might not be possible if I or they (?) are in the US.
    Will someone clarify this?
    Skype support tells me that:
"Reymark C: I am afraid adding members in somewhere in US is no longer available."
Is this somewhere on the help pages that I missed.  Being logged-in, skype knows where I am (or where I list my home as).  Why did it let me waste so much time struggling with this?
Also, why is there this restriction?
    ...after much other talk.....
L JEPSON: Question: Can I add skype credit to another person's account?
Reymark C: That;s only possible once he is already added to your manage account.
L JEPSON: You said I cannot add members in the US.
Reymark C: Those are only possible outside US.
L JEPSON: So I can not add anyone to my manager account, b/c I am in the US, correct?
Aside, why can't the skype support use skype-screenshare?  I wanted to show what I saw.  Instead, we had me sign some online contract, gave control of my computer to the support person.  Spent a fair amount of time doing this.   Enable your users to use skype to see our screens, please, Microsoft.  You can still record the conversation and record the screenshare, can't you?

  • Creating a new user in solution manager?

    Dear All,
How to create a new user in solution manager for creating an incident?

    prathish5,
I did this in our SolMan by following the instructions provided by a SAP document called: "Service Desk VAR Setup Master Data". I got it from the Support Portal, though I can't seem to find it now so I can't provide a link at this time.
Anyway, assuming that your SolMan is already able to download your master data (and/or your customers', if you are a VAR), these are the steps suggested by the guide:
    1) The message creator (aka Key User) should have the following authorization roles:
    SAP_SUPPDESK_CREATE
    SAP_SUPPCF_CREATE
    SAP_SMWORK_BASIC
    SAP_SMWORK_INCIDENT_MAN
    See also SAP note 834534.
A best practice is to create a Z copy of all of these roles (use transaction PFCG), so you can manage them and change them around if you need to. Just make sure to "activate" all the authorizations of your copy of the roles:
    - Open the roles in tr. PFCG;
    - Select Authorizations, and choose Change authorization data;
    - If you get a yellow semaphore, be sure to review the authorizations and fill them according to your security policy. You can assign global permissions for all the authorization objects by double-clicking the yellow semaphore;
    - Generate the profile, then go back and save the role;
    2) Following the guide, with tr. SU01 I created a Template user and called it KEY_USER (make sure the user type is actually Template) and assigned to it the Z roles you created in the step above;
    3) If your SolMan is working properly, you can now use report AI_SDK_SP_GENERATE_BP (tr. SA38) to create the Business Partners and SAP users automatically. The report will log in the Support Portal and read the users which are authorized to open a SAP tickets, and create a BP and user for each of them. Use the Template user KEY_USER created in step 2 as a "Reference user" and all the new users will automatically get the correct autorizations. Also if your SAP Connect (tr. SCOT) is correctly configured, you can choose to send an automatic mail to each user, with their login and generated password.
Otherwise, you can manually create a user with transactions SU01 and BP - be sure to fill the "Identities" table here - the report AI_SDK_SP_GENERATE_BP makes all these things automatically so it's definitely your best bet.
    4) Your users should now be able to log in with the SAPgui and use transaction CREATE_NOTIF to create a new message in your SolMan. Also if you have done the preparation steps correctly they should also be able to log in your Incident Manager using their browser, and open a message there and also review their past messages.
Those are just a quick insight of the steps you need to do. This is NOT an easy thing to configure, at least it wasn't for me; if you don't have a reliable guide to follow you're going to struggle: I strongly suggest you browse through the SAP documentations (also the blogs) - http://service.sap.com/xsearch is your best friend!
I hope this helps a little bit. Good luck.

  • Error -14135 Creating New User In Workgroup Manager

    Hello,
I'm running 10.5.8 on a Mac Server, and until today have had no issues adding new users with a preset I've created in Workgroup Manager. Today, I've received the message:

Following is the text from Note for Custom Password Validation logic:
Customers who wish to use their own password validation logic may do
so by writing their own Java classes that implement the
      oracle.apps.fnd.security.PasswordValidation Java interface.  The
interface requires 3 methods to be implemented:
      1) public boolean validate(String user, String password)
        - This method takes a username and password, and then returns true
or false, indicating whether the user's password is valid or invalid,
      respectively.
      2) public String getErrorStackMessageName()
        - This method returns the name of the message to display when the
user's password is deemed invalid (i.e., the validate() method returns
      false).
      3) public String getErrorStackApplicationName()
        - This method returns the application shortname for the
      aforementioned error message.
After writing the Java class to perform customized password
validation, the customer must then set the value of the profile option
SIGNON_PASSWORD_CUSTOM to be the full name of the class.  If, for
example, the name of the Java class is
oracle.apps.fnd.security.AppsPasswordValidation, then the value of the
      SIGNON_PASSWORD_CUSTOM profile option must be
      oracle.apps.fnd.security.AppsPasswordValidation.  Note that AOL/J
will attempt to load this class dynamically.  Hence it is necessary to
make the class accessible by AOL/J.  This means that in Forms, the
class must first be loaded into the database using the loadjava
      command.

  • New user created in oracle 11g (release 2) is not connecting (ORA-01017)

    Hi All,
Kindly help me out regarding this.
I have created a new user using "ORACLE Enterprise Manager 11g" and used the same credentials in SQL developer for a new connection and it throw "ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied" message.
Kindly note that have followed the following steps in creating user:
On the Users page, click Create.
In the Name field, enter NICK.
In the Profile list, accept the value DEFAULT.
This setting assigns the default password policy to user Nick.
In the Enter Password and Confirm Password fields, enter a password that is secure.
Create a password that is secure. See Oracle Database Security Guide for more information.
Do not select Expire password now. If the account status is set to expired, then the user or the database administrator must change the password before the user can log in to the database.
(Optional) Next to the Default Tablespace field, click the flashlight icon, select the USERS tablespace, and then click Select.
All schema objects that Nick creates will then be created in the USERS tablespace unless he specifies otherwise. If you leave the Default Tablespace field blank, Nick is assigned the default tablespace for the database, which is USERS in a newly installed database. For more information about the USERS tablespace, see "About Tablespaces".
(Optional) Next to the Temporary Tablespace field, click the flashlight icon, select the TEMP tablespace, and then click Select.
For the Status option, accept the default selection of Unlocked.
You can later lock the user account to prevent users from logging in with it. To temporarily deny access to a user account, locking the user account is preferable to deleting it, because deleting it also deletes all schema objects owned by the user.
Grant roles, system privileges, and object privileges to the user, as described in "Example: Granting Privileges and Roles to a User Account".
Note: Do not click OK in Step 13 of "Example: Granting Privileges and Roles to a User Account". Instead, skip that step and continue with Step 12 in this procedure.
Assign a 10 MB quota on the USERS tablespace, as described in "Example: Assigning a Tablespace Quota to a User Account".
If you did not click OK while assigning the tablespace quota (previous step), click OK now to create the user.Kindly note that I have log in as SYSTEM user and created this new user.
Could any one help me regarding this ?

After connecting with sqlplus, as user SYSTEM and when tried the below, I could see that the new user created by me does not exist..
    select '--' || username || '--'
    from dba_users
    order by username;
But when tried with GUI "ORACLE Enterprise Manager 11g" I can very well see the new user created by me..
    How is this possible mate??
Is the user not properly created through GUI (than from where it is showing the new user)
    Some more information i want to share;
    i have used schema "HR"
And have used table space "USERS"
    And tep tablespace "TEMP"

We have two Xserves (one OD Master, one replica) running OS X 10.6.8 Server and about 100 client macs all running 10.6.8.

What's odd is that we can edit passwords, etc in existing/previous users and they are updated on the client end. We have also verified logs and compared new users authentication logs to existing and the logs say that the users authenticate successfully.
We are at a loss as what to do next. Any ideas?

Every place I have worked prior to my current company I would do the following steps to create a new user (new employee).  In AD I would
copy an existing user with the same/similar permissions, distro list membership, etc...  Then go into
EMC and create a new mailbox for an existing user
and link it to the new AD object I had just created.  This always worked for me.  Here it doesn't.  When I do it that way, the new user mailbox does not get added to the GAL.  If you go to
All Users they show up.  I have read several articles about using cached mode and if I turn it off the user will show up.  Unfortunately most of our employees are in the field for long periods of time so we need to run in cached mode.
The way the network manager wants them created (and this way works) is to create a new user mailbox for a
new user in EMC which also creates the AD object.  Then I have to go back to AD and manually add the user to permissions groups, distro lists, add profile settings, etc...  Very tedious and manual process.
Can someone help me understand why doing it my way, which I have done for years on other networks, is not working here?  Since we are using cached mode do I have to create the user object and mailbox the way he does it?

I believe the way you are doing it and the way he is doing it is doing exactly the same thing as far as when it shows up in the GAL.  The problem sounds like exactly what you said in that you are using cached mode which uses an Offline Address Book
(OAB).  If you look in EMC under Organization Configuration/Mailbox/Offline Address Book, you will see the update schedule.  What happens is when you create the account it shows up in the address book right away however it only shows up in the OAB
when that updater runs.  Even after that is done, the outlook client needs to go out and download the OAB file, which happens 24 hours from the time it last downloaded the OAB.  I'm not sure if there is a fix for your problem as it appears to be
by design.  Perhaps your old company may have been running in online mode?  You may want to look at
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841273/en-us for more details.
    Q1: What is cached mode?
A1: Cached mode is the new default configuration for Outlook. It provides an experience that is similar to the offline configuration in earlier versions of Outlook. When you are running in cached mode, your Exchange mailbox is synchronized to a local
file (an .ost file), and the offline address list from your Exchange computer is synchronized to a collection of files (.oab files) on your client computer. Outlook directly accesses the .ost file and the .oab files on your hard disk instead of communicating
directly with your server or servers. Therefore, network communication between Outlook and Exchange is significantly reduced.
Q2: Why does cached mode generate an offline address book?
A2: The offline address book  contains a set of all the properties of a user (such as e-mail addresses and names) that Outlook requires. With an offline address book, Outlook does not have to connect to the global catalog to resolve names, nor
does it have to open a person’s details record. Instead, Outlook easily obtains this information from the local offline address book.
Q5: How frequently is the offline address book updated on the Outlook client?
A5: If left constantly running, Outlook in cached mode automatically updates the offline address book on the client every 24 hours. The 24-hour time period is measured from the time that the offline address book was last downloaded successfully. For
example, if you complete an offline address book download at 09:00 today, Outlook will start the offline address book download the next day at approximately 09:00. Therefore, different people will receive updates at different, random times.
Note The default setting on the Exchange computer is to generate an offline address book differential file every morning at 04:00. For a change that is made in Active Directory to reach the client computer, the following events must occur:
The change must be picked up by the Exchange computer that generates the offline address book files. This can take several hours. At worst, it can take 24 hours. This variable will be referred to as "x."
The Outlook clients must download the offline address book updates every 24 hours. This update can take several hours. At  worst, it can take 24 hours. This variable will be referred to as "y."
The update reaches the client machines x+y hours later. It would be rare for a client to ever experience a 48-hour delay or more unless there were some Active Directory or public folder replication issues.
