NT Lan Manager call from servlet

Can someone please point me in the right direction for some documentation, or even an example, of how to access the NT Lan Manager user information from a Java Servlet?
I am using iAS Java Edition.
Best regards
Christian Almgren

You can use
String s = response.encodeRedirectURL("http://www.sandeep.com/hello?sid=2222");
response.sendRedirect(s);
Or you could use the RequestDispatcher class
RequestDispatcher rd = this.getServletConfig().getServletContext().getNamedDispatcher("myservlet")
where myServlet is your registered name
rd.forward(request,response);
Hope this helps!!

  • Tomcat /manager commends from Servlet

    Hi all,
    I asked a question regarding the excution of Tomcat /manager commands from a servlet and I got no replies... :(
    Well, I never found a way to directly execute the /manager commands from the servlet (API) - but I did (eventually) get it working via URLConnection. Now, I've decided to release my (simple) code here so that it may help others!
    This code searches for a context and then checks if it is running, if it is found not to be running it will attempt to start it. (tested and found to work under Tomcat 5.0.28).
      String
        protocol  = "http",
        host      = "localhost",
        usr       = "usr",
        pwd       = "pwd",
        context   = "/myapp";
      int port = 80;
      URL list = new URL(protocol,host,port,"/manager/list");
      URLConnection c = (URLConnection)list.openConnection();
      String encs = new sun.misc.BASE64Encoder().encode((usr+":"+pwd).getBytes());
      c.setDoInput(true);
      c.setRequestProperty("Authorization", "Basic " + encs);
      c.connect();
      BufferedReader buf = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(c.getInputStream()));
      String line;
      while ( (line = buf.readLine()) != null )
         * Search for the /workpackages context
        if ( line.startsWith(context+":") )
           * Found the context
           * Now make sure that it's running
          if ( line.indexOf("running") > 0 )
             * Context /workpackages found to be running!
              System.out.println("Context ["+context+"] - Running!");
          else
             * Context found NOT to be running!
             * Try and start the context!
            buf.close();
            System.out.println("Context ["+context+"] - Attempting to start context...");
            URL start = new URL(protocol,host,port,"/manager/start?path="+context);
            c = (URLConnection)start.openConnection();
            c.setDoInput(true);
            c.setRequestProperty("Authorization", "Basic " + encs);
            c.connect();
            buf = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(c.getInputStream()));
            while ( (line = buf.readLine()) != null ) System.out.println(line);
          break;
    notes:
    The buffer reading after both commands seems to be required! I don't know why... But I found that without them, the manager commands seem to be ignored!?!? odd!
    Well, I hope this helps someone...

    thanx
    but when i am Deploying directory or WAR file located on server
    where is this XML Configuration file,
    so that i can fill in the text box-XML Configuration file URL
    and secondly in tomcat 5.5.4
    there is no context path described in server.xml
    so where is this in 5.5.4

  • Best Practice for EJB calls from servlet?

    Hi folks
    I could not find general rules for making calls to an stateful EJB from the web container (e.g. from a backingBean). In some books they say it is a bad programming style calling them directly from a common servlet. The book says create first an HTTPSession Object and from there call the stateful EJB.
    I'm a bit confused because, I'm missing some best practice guide from where to initiate such calls.
    Can somebody please point me in the right direction?
    Kind Regards
    Bruno
    Edited by: zajoho on Oct 30, 2008 11:14 PM

    Hi Bruno,
    The main issue with the combination of stateful session beans and servlets is the servlet threading model.
    It is dangerous to store a stateful session bean reference in servlet instance state, since the servlet instance
    can be accessed concurrently, yet a stateful session bean reference is intended to be used by only one
    client.
    As you point out, one alternative is to store the reference in the HttpSession. That associates the reference
    with a particular client, which matches the stateful session bean programming model.

  • Accessing an IFRAME tag after page being called from Servlet

    Hi there, can anyone help me please.
    I have two JSP pages, JSP1a and JSP2. When I call JSP1a from my browser, it runs some alert messages and then calls JSP2, which does a check on my database and then returns control to JSP1a and reloads the page. This all works fine.
    I am now trying to integrate these two pages into my main app, but I get a problem. I am now calling JSP1a, from a controlling Java Servlet (my app is based around a Model 2 architecture) which fires fine, but the reference to the line
    "window.frames.hidFrame.location.href=jsp2.jsp"
    doesnt seem to work. "hidFrame" is an IFRAME in the body tag of my JSP1a page.
    Can anyone help ? why does this line not fire, when the page has been loaded from a Java Servlet ? but it fires fine when I load the page directly ? and what is the solution to get around this problem please.
    Thanks
    Robert

              alert("inside return function");
              window.location.reload(true);

    int i=1;
    flag = dbBean.checkForUpdates();
    System.out.println("flag = " + flag);

    if (i == 1){

         <BODY onload="parent.retMessage()">
    <%} else {%>
         <BODY onload="parent.setTimeout('checkFunction()', 5000)">
    <%}%>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>

    its ok, I have found the problem. Someone recommended to me to change the IFRAME tag to make it visible just while I was debugging and low-and-behold there was a 404 error message being displayed which I had no idea about. It couldnt find my JSP2.jsp page. Because I am calling JSP1a from a servlet now, I needed to add a full path to my reference so that the servlet would know where to look. I did this and it works ok. I know its probably not best practice to hard code the full path to JSP2.jsp, I guess I should go back to the servlet and call JSP2 from there ?

  • Request dispatcher and jsp pages called from servlets

              Given the following webapp directory structure:
              root/
              jsp/
              ..all jsp files
              web-inf/
              classes/
              /servlets
                   ..all servlet files
              /com
              ..all other java class files
              I have the jsp directory coded as: jspdir = "/jsp/" (and have tried variations
              on this theme)
              I try to open a new jsp page with the following code in a servlet in the above
              servlet directory:
                   RequestDispatcher rd;
                   rd = getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher(jspdir + myjsp.jsp);
                   rd.forward(req, res);
              rd continues to return null.
              The jsp pages are not registered in the web.xml file for this webapp, if that
              makes any difference.
              Does anyone have any suggestions?

              it works fine, please send me the example code you are using and the

  • I want to send a response from the servlet and then call another servlet.

    Hi,
    I want to send a response from the servlet and then call another servlet. can this happen. Here is my scenario.
    1. Capture all the information from a form including an Email address and submit it to a servlet.
    2. Now send a message to the browser that the request will be processed and mailed.
    3. Now execute the request and give a mail to the mentioned Email.
    Can this be done in any way even by calling another servlet from within a servlet or any other way.
    Can any one Please help me out.
    Thanks,

    Maybe that will help you (This is registration sample):
    1.You have Registration.html;

    4.And last you have Dispatcher between all.

  • Calling a servlet from af:button

    Hi
    I am invoking a servlet using af:commandbutton. I am trying that this servlet be invoked by authenticated user. For this, I injected ADFContext.getCurrent.getSecurityContext().isAuthenticated(); in servlet.
    Based, on the *...isAuthenticated()* method value , doGet() should execute code.
    But this warning is coming -
    <ADFContext> <getCurrent> Automatically initializing a DefaultContext for getCurrent.
    Caller should ensure that a DefaultContext is proper for this use.
    Memory leaks and/or unexpected behaviour may occur if the automatic initialization is performed improperly.
    This message may be avoided by performing initADFContext before using getCurrent(). Is this right to use ADFContext in servlet? Should I ignore warning?
    I cannot use 'isAuthenticated()' as a parameter from commandbutton's managed bean. Since user can see the servlet parameter url in browser & without authentication , they can call the servlet.
    What is the way to avoid this type of situation?
    Using Jdev 11.1.1.5 with ADF RC with WLS 10.3.5.

    You can ignore this warning

  • How to call a servlet from another servlet

    hi everybody,
    i have a problem, i have to call one servlet from another one.
    Everything works on my pc, but when i install the application on the customer's server i got an error about an Uknown URL followed by the name of the machine.
    Wjat i do is the folloqing :
    String urlString = request.getScheme()+"://"+request.getServerName()+":"+request.getServerPort()+"/"+servletName;
    URL url = new URL(urlString);
    HttpURLConnection conn = (HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection();
    the variable servletName is the name of the servlet i have to call.
    Is there another way to call the servlet ?
    All the servlet are installed in the same server.
    Any suggestion ?
    Cheers.
    Stefano

    Sweep is correct about requestDispatcher being another approach for inter-servlet delegation; the only issue that i recall with this approach is that it defaults the method of the destination servlet to the one it was called from...for example, calling servlet2 from within servlet1.post() resulted in the dispatcher attempting to utilize servlet2.post() - i believe that i searched for a parameterize solution to no avail :( (ended up handling the request by placing a "fake" doPost() in servlet2 that simply called servlet2.doGet())
    however, if your application is functioning correctly on your pc/webserver then the problem may be external to servlet communication (e.g. client webserver's ports not configured or blocked, missing runtime classes, etc.)
    my suggestion would be to set aside the programmatic concerns for the moment - what is the response if you open a browser on a client's machine and access the URL in question (i.e. http://clientserver:port/stefanoServlet)? If it will not respond to access in this manner then it certainly won't when your application calls for it.
    It's possible that there is a coding error but, given the info supplied, i'd start examining the environment, first. Let us know if you have any luck with the test i recommended or not (please provide abundant detail). Or, if you've found the solution then you may want to post back with a quick blub so the next person knows how to escape the trap.

  • How can i call a servlet from a servlet ?

    Hello,
    Can i call a Servlet from within a Servlet ?
    and is it "right thing" to Do ?
    Thanks

    JMO, but I wouldn't do it like this.
    Don't have a remote object like a servlet doing database queries for your app. That will mean TWO network hops for every query if the database resides on another machine. The network is the biggest bottleneck you've got.
    Write a JavaBean that does the database stuff for you and just have the first servlet instantiate it when it needs it. A Bean has a better chance of being reused, too. Write a TableGateway or DAO for your object.
    Or write an EJB to do it.
    The only time I've done a servlet-to-servlet connection like that was for one servlet running in a DMZ that would authenticate a user and then forward the request to another servlet running inside the second firewall.
    I wouldn't encapsulate database query logic in a servlet like that. JMO - MOD

  • Getting error while calling ejb business methods from servlet

    Hi
    Iam getting error when i try to call a ejb method from servlet.Error is
    "com.netscape.server.eb.UncheckedException: unchecked exception nested exception is:java.lang.NullPointerException".
    I build the application and deployed it successfully.Iam using IAS 6.O with windows NT 4.0.
    This is just a method which takes values from database and return as an array of bean to servlet.
    Any help on this.Thanks Shank

    Hi
    I was using the session bean.Your suggestion helped me a lot.Perfect.
    I debug my program and found that from ejbCreate()exception is getting.
    I was getting the datasource object thro ejb create() initialisation.
    Somehow the look up jndi which i mentioned was not interpretting from ejb-jar.xml ias-ejb-jar.xml and datasource ref .Due to this iam getting jndi Namenotfound exception which in turns to null pointer as datasource is getting null.
    when i hardcoded in the ejb the the jndi name for datasource it is working fine.Bit worried all the existing ejbs working with the xml referenced datasource and jndi,but when i added a new ejb with same properties it is failing to get the jndi name.
    Piece of code from ias-ejb-jar.xml
    <resource-ref>
              <res-ref-name>myDataSource</res-ref-name>
              <jndi-name>jdbc/nb/myData</jndi-name>
    </resource-ref>
    Piece of code from ejb-jar.xml
    <resource-ref>
              <res-ref-name>myDataSource</res-ref-name>
              <res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type>
              <res-auth>Container</res-auth>
    </resource-ref>
    Thanks a lot meka

  • What is the best way to call a servlet from another servlet?

    I have a project with 9 servlets (class project). The way I have been moving from servlet to servlet is like this
    doPost(...)
    {      response.setContentType(CONTENT_TYPE);
    PrintWriter out = response.getWriter();
    out.println("<html>");
    out.println("<head><title>Functions</title>");
    out.println(f"<form name=frm6 method=post action=/servlet2");
    out.println("<input type=submit name='btn' value='servlet2'>");
    out.println("</form>");
    So I have these 9 servlets - I call any 8 of them from the first servlet so I have 8 buttons on 8 forms <form=frm1, frm2, ...frm8 method = post...> But when I bring up the first servlet only 6 buttons show up. I was thinking about using hyperlinks instead, but I would like to do this with buttons. I wanted to do this with javascript and the location object, but I was advised to use jsp. I just want to move from one servlet to the next. Any suggestions appreciated for the best/preferred method for moving from one servlet to the next.
    Thanks

    I think you may need some clarification of terminology etc..
    First off, JSP isn't an alternative to javascript, it's an alternative to coding a servlet. A JSP is a mixture of java code and HTML and is translated into a servlet by the system. JSPs are primarilly for generating HTML pages with variable content. JSPs very frequently generate HTML which includes Javascript.
    You probably shouldn't think of what you're doing as one servlet invoking another, that does happen; a servlet can transfer an transaction to another servlet or JSP. In fact it's standard practice that a servlet does the logical stuff (like interpretting form data) then transfers to a JSP to generate the response page. However in this case it's the browser that can invoke one of the 8 servlets, the first servlet merely creates the page from which they are invoked.
    It's not obvious why only some of your buttons are showing up. In a case like this use the "view source" option on your browser to find out what HTML the servlet is actually delivering. What's wrong should be evident from that.
    You can put a hyperlink arround a button, or an image. Mostly people turn up their noses at the buttons supplied by HTML and use their own images for buttons. You
    can do somthing like this:
    <img src="/images/button3.png" border="0">
    (Of course this arrives as a GET transaction not a POST).
    Or you can do a bit of javascript like:
    <img src="/images/button3.png" style="Cursor: pointer;"
    onclick="document.locations.href='/servlet3';">
