Number Of rows invisible ? in pagination
hi,
My info :
Oracle 11g
Application Express 3.2.1.00.12
Maybe this is a newbie question, but nowhere i can see the "number of rows" field in the Report Attributes > Pagination.
I do see "Maximum Row Count", but not the Number of rows displayed on a single page.
I checked the documentation
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/howtos/howto_report_rownum.html
And its supposed to be there, but not on my version.
Also i see in the documentation the part is called "Layout and Pagination", but its just called Pagination for me.
Could anyone point me to where i can set the number of rows displayed on a single page of a report ?
Thanks
Thank you Pedro for your answer, but the problem is: i cannot find "Number of Rows " in the Pagination area (read my post ;) )
I have been looking everywhere for it, i looked on all documentations, it SHOULD be here, but unfortunately, i dont see it.
Here are the fields visible in Pagination :
Pagination
Pagination Type
Pagination Display Position
Show Null Values as
Maximum Row Count
When more than maximum row data found message
When No Data Found Message

How to limit number of rows(pagination) in the bam report?
Is there anyway i can limit the number of rows in a report in BAM 10.1.3.4 ?
In BAM 11g
There is a property ElementsCountLimit which is configurd in BAMServerConfig.xml
The number of change lists that are cached before rewriting the cache file.
The default value is 50. When the 51st change list is received, it is cached by replacing the 1st change list.
Default: 50 -
Number of Rows Displayed in a SQL Report Region
Hi,
Just wondering whether it is possible to control the 'Number of Rows' displayed under the 'Layout and Pagination' section within the Report Attributes page.
Basically need to know if I can programmatically control this or even better, can it be customized by the user as the user may want to see say 15 rows, 200 rows or 'All' rows of a certain region on the page. FYI, I have three different report regions on one page and want to give the user the flexibility to modify the number of rows displayed per region.
Thanks.
Tony.Tony,
you can find that in this how-to document:

How to get the number of rows returned by a report?
Hi,
I'm developing my first application in APEX and so far everything seems fine, except I can't figure out this very simple thing: I have a report based on a PL/SQL block returning an SQL string. I'd like to have a message (something like "X rows returned") just before the report. The closest thing I could find was "X to Y out of Z" in the pagination styles, but that's not what I want. Also I don't think running the same query to get COUNT() is wise.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
KonstantinMy guess is that it only shows the number of rows it has retrieved. I believe the defailt is for it to only retrieve 50 rows and as you page through your report it retrieves more. So this would just tell you how many rows was retireved, but probably not how many rows the report would contain if you pages to the end. Oracle doesn't really have a notion of total number of rows until the whole result set has been materialized.

Changing the default number of rows displayed in a interactive report
Hi,
I have a sql query based interactive report but i cant change the default number of pages i.e 15.
is there any way to change the number of rows displayed.
Thank you,
rakeshHi,
That was very useful document that you shared, yes that is correct we can so it this way but there is another way doing it where in if you go to the report attribute section and in that there is Layout and Pagination and under
that you can fix the number of rows, and over there we can also accept values from page item such as if the page item value changes the number of rows displayed in the report changes dynamically.
In my report i get only pagination but not a option for layout.
Any help will be appreciated.
And also where i can get the links to the similar document that you have shared ?

Classic Report limit the number of rows displayed
Hi All,
In my application I have a classic Report which show the data of a simple query. For lay-out reasons I want to limit the number of display to 5 instead of the default 15. I've looked in several forums and they told me that I have to set the number of rows in the report attributes.
But it did not what I want. I'm Using APEX 4.1.0 on a Oracle 11G database
My question is: How can I limit the maximum number of rows in a classic SQL Report.Hamertje16 wrote:

But it did not what I want. I'm Using APEX 4.1.0 on a Oracle 11G databaseHow did it not do what you want? Displayed an error? Displayed no rows? Displayed 15 rows? Displayed some other number of rows? We can only help if we fully understand the nature of the problem.
My question is: How can I limit the maximum number of rows in a classic SQL Report.To display 5 rows per page set the report's Number of Rows attribute to *5*.
However, pagination settings get cached for the duration of the session. For this change to be instantly visible, either log out, restart the brower, and log in again, or manually re-request the page from the browser address bar, adding 'RP' in the ClearCache position in the URL. -
Conditionally display button based on number of rows in rpt query results?
I know that I can conditionally display a button based on the number of rows returned in a query entered in the condition. However, I have a report region button that I only want to display if any data was returned by a report query. Since I've already executed the query to generate the report, I do not want to execute it again to determine whether any rows were returned. Is there any way to detect whether any rows were returned for a report other than to reissue the query?
http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=24317:52
OK, so it looks like it contains the rowcount of the report region rendered just before the variable (apex_application.g_flow_total_row_count) is referenced.
Sort of like how SQL%ROWCOUNT contains the no. of records affected by the last SQL DML statement.
Note that the pagination scheme affects the result. In the example above, the 2nd report region is showing 10 rows with a 'Rows X to Y' pagination scheme. So g_flow_total_row_count=11 because I guess the reporting engine has to fetch the 11th row (and discard it) to determine whether to render the 'Next' pagination link.
If you select a pagination scheme that forces the reporting engine to fetch all the rows 'Rows X to Y of Z', g_flow_total_row_count will always be Z, not the number of rows actually rendered on the screen.

I have used pagination to display the report data.I have used page break.I want to display 10 records on first page and from second page onwards I want to display 25 records on all remaining pages.
I followed this link to show 25 records for all page. "http://www.sqlchick.com/entries/2010/9/11/displaying-fixed-number-of-rows-per-ssrs-report-page.html". Now suggest me how display 10 records only on first page having 25 from second page onwards.Hi mukesh_harkhani,
According to your description, you want to insert page break for different number of rows, display 10 rows on the first page and 25 rows on the following pages. After testing the issue in my SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 environment, we can use the
method below to achieve your requirement:
In your scenario, right-click the group which contains the expression: =CEILING(RowNumber(Nothing)/25) to open the Group Properties dialog box.
Modify the original expression to the following in the Group on textbox:
=Floor((RowNumber(Nothing)+14)/25)
If there are any other questions, please feel free to ask.
Thanks,
Katherine Xiong

Why is the "Number of Rows" for a report seem to be cached in the session?
When I change the Number of Rows in any given report that this change doesn't immediately take effect. After much poking around and gnashing of teeth -- I found that I have to go into Manage Session State and Remove State for my session before these changes go into effect.
Can anyone explain why this setting would be stored in the users' session state and why when I login and get a new session_id this setting seems to persist.
Thanks,
Jason1. if you login with a new session, the pagination should be reset and the new number of rows should be displayes - which version do you use. I just checked on apex.oracle.com and it worked.
2. You should try using reset pagination option to see what happens.

Interactive report - default number of rows
I am using APEX 3.1.1 and can not find a way to change the default of 15 for the "number of rows" returned when initially displaying an interactive query. Have I missed something?
It is certainly easy enough using "Layout and Pagination - Number of Rows" for a non-interactive report region.
thanks PeterHi Peter,
In the report definition, there is a section headed Default Report Settings. This shows the instruction:
To create default report settings, run the report as a developer, modify the settings (like hiding columns, adding filters, etc.), select Save Report from the Actions Menu and then save As Default Report Settings.
The default row count is one of those settings - make sure you Run the report before saving.

How To Restrict Number Of Rows For Multiple Group In Report Output
Hi ,
I have a requirement to restrict number of rows in report output.I have three different group , if i use same no of rows to restrict then output is as expected but if i want Deduction group should have 7 rows , earning should have 5 rows and Tax group have 3 rows in report output then XML tag is not working.
Below is the XML tag i am using -
First i have declare the variable to restrict the rows -
<xsl:variable name="lpp" select="number(7)"/>
<xsl:variable name="lpp1" select="number(5)"/>
<xsl:variable name="lpp2" select="number(3)"/>
For Each -
<?for-each:PAYSLIP?>
<xsl:variable xdofo:ctx="incontext" name="DedLines" select=".//AC_DEDUCTIONS"/>
<xsl:variable xdofo:ctx="incontext" name="EarLines" select=".//AC_EARNINGS[ELEMENT_CLASSIFICATION!='Taxable Benefits']"/>
<xsl:variable xdofo:ctx="incontext" name="EarTaxLines" select=".//AC_EARNINGS[ELEMENT_CLASSIFICATION='Taxable Benefits']>
<?for-each:$DedLines?><?if:(position()-1) mod $lpp=0?> <xsl:variable name="start" xdofo:ctx="incontext" select="position()"/>
<?if:(position()-1) mod $lpp1=0?><xsl:variable name="start1" xdofo:ctx="incontext" select="position()"/
<?if:(position()-1) mod $lpp2=0?><xsl:variable name="start2" xdofo:ctx="incontext" select="position()"/>
Report output is tabular form (one page has two column - Earning and Deduction ) . Tax group comes below earning group.
Deduction Group -
<?for-each-group:$DedLines;./REPORTING_NAME?><?if:position()>=$start and position()<$start+$lpp?>
<?REPORTING_NAME?>
<?end if?><?end for-each-group?>
Earning Group -
<?for-each-group:$EarLines;./REPORTING_NAME?><?if:position()>=$start1 and position()<$start1+$lpp1?>
<?REPORTING_NAME?>
<?end if?><?end for-each-group?>
Tax Group -
<?for-each-group:$EarTaxLines;./REPORTING_NAME?><?if:position()>=$start2 and position()<$start2+$lpp2?>
<?REPORTING_NAME?>
<?end if?><?end for-each-group?>
Please let me know in case additional detail is require.
Thanks in Advance.
Thanks,
Harsh
Edited by: Harsh.rkg on Jan 14, 2013 9:43 PMvariable lpp2 is declare to restrict EarTaxLines -
<xsl:variable name="lpp2" select="number(2)"/>
This will help to restrict the no of rows on one page , if we have more then two tax benefits line then layout will roll over to continuation page.
As part of report output my expectation is if i restrict Earning , Deduction and Tax benefits to same no of line for example - variable lpp ,lpp1 and lpp2 have same value "number(2)" , we can see the layout is continue on next page (restrict every group can have max two lines) .This is the reason we have 4 header grid , deduction and Tax Benefit lines are rolled over to continuation page .But if we restrict different value for each variable then continuation page layout is missing .
When we tried for <xsl:variable name="lpp2" select="number(3)"/> value continuation page layout is not getting generate for both employee number . -
How to set the number of rows displayed in a classical report at runtime?
Hi,
Our customer has several standard client hardware configuration and would like to enable end users to choose their 'display profile' at login time. This 'display profile' would contain predefined values for these hardware configurations and supposed to set various paramters that should define the number of rows displayed in a classical report region.
I tried to provide parameters on the report region but it refused to accept anything but numerical values. Is it possible to do this?
Regards, TamasThe link is to the closest linkable point in the documentation to the description of the Number of Rows (Item) attribute.
It sounds like you have been trying to enter—unsuccessfully—an item name or substitution string into the Number of Rows attribute. The Number of Rows (Item) attribute is the one that actually allows you to do this. Click on the flashlight icon beside it to get a list of items from the application.
