Numbered captions for figures and tables

Can anyone tell me how to create captions for figures and tables such that they are automatically numbers (ex. Figure 1, Figure 2, ...) so that when I remove or add a new figure in the middle of the document I don't have to manually re-number everything. If it still is not possible in Pages ver. 4, I hope that someone can write an applescript that will post process a document to prefix captions preceding tables with Table # and any captions following images with Figure # or "Some custom phrase" followed by #.

Writing that here is perfectly useless.

I've created the Hyperlinks for the Figures and tables using the Text Anchor options in Hyperlink Destination. But I've problem in showing the destination image view when clicking on the figure references text. The figures links are shown me the figure caption text. How I set the properties of the Destination object to show us the exact Image when clicking on the hyperlink text.

Setting up Figure and Table Titles for Translation Import and Export?

I use InDesign to write User Manuals. Once the manual complete, I use SDL World Server to translate the document which works wonderful. The way it works is the document is parsed by the xml data and when you export the document from SDL, the translated data replaces the English data, it’s pretty slick! The problem that I have is that my Figure and Table numbers are hard coded with the word "Figure" and "Table” as part of the numbering system and will not translate nor export (see screenshot below). Is there A.) A way I can make the code become a reference to a text box in the document that then can be translated? B.) A common or different way to handle this?

I've always avoided that auto-figure-naming stuff, in any application, for the sole reason that it often doesn't localize well. I'm not a WorldServer user, but a SDL Trados Studio user, so I don't know exactly what to tell you. If you're the kind of person to pop your IDML open in a text editor, you'll find that the actual "Figure" text appears in Styles.xml, and I doubt that SDL's IDML filters look there for text for translation. I don't actually know for sure, and I do know you're using an SDL product with which I have no familiarity whatsoever.
A different, somewhat kludgy way to handle this would be to use auto-numbering to create an invisible paragraph number (color of Paper, size of 0.1 pts, glyph width of 1%, or something along those lines), and then have the phrase "Figure" in your live text, followed by a cross-reference to the paragraph number.
A common way to handle this would be to ask SDL to update their IDML filter to pick up terms used in auto-numbered lists.

How to move elements (figures and tables) to float

We have created an XSLT for the XML-IN in Indesign, its working fine and all the styles are applied automatically and figures and tables were placed as inline.
Now we need to move the INLINE elements to FLOATING.
How to move the INLINE elements such as figures and tables to Floating. This is for automation purpose.
We are stuck up, please suggest.
Our requirement is need to move the "figures" from "Inline" to "float" for auto pagination purpose.
Please give us a route to end with proper result. We are at learning stage of Java Script.
We use Indesign CS3 with JavaScript, I am not asking the full code, just give us an idea, how to pick from the XML tree and make it as float.

Use one of the selection tools, e.g. selection brush, lasso tool, to select the object, then place it on its own layer.
In your example, you would select the moon. You will see "marching ants" surrounding the selection, delineating the boundary of the selection and that it is active.
To place the object on its own layer, go to Layer menu>new> layer via copy, or CTRL+J. You will see the object surrounded by transparency (checkerboard pattern).
Use the move tool to position the moon object wherever you want
Place a blank layer below the layer created in step #2, then fill it with your new background.
You can select multiple objects and place them this way to suit. Again, back to your hypothetical of.10 objects on 10 layers, you can link these layers by pressing CTRL+left clicking on each of the 10 layers in the layers palette.
If you use the move tool, you will see that they move as a block. If you are unhappy with one of the layers as you go along, simply delete it, and replace it with a new one.
As for naming the layers, right click on a layer, and from the menu select "rename" layer to bring up the layers properties, then rename it to something meaningful.

You can create database views in the ABAP Dictionary. Views (aggregate objects) are application specific and allow you to work with multiple database tables.

Figure and Table number out of sequence between chapters

I inherited a lengthy Service Manual consisting of 6 separate files (chapters) that are intended to be consolidated into a book when complete. Page numbering, Figure numbering and Table numbering is supposed to be sequential, but I find when I delete a figure in one chapter, the next figure number in the subsequent chapter is out of order. I'm new to FrameMaker 10 and can't seem to correct this.

I've checked the paragraph tags in each chapter, they appear identical:
C:\tTable\<><><><n+>\t
What happened is, the preceding chapter became shorter and I noticed the next chapter page numbers started incorrectly. I went to Format, Numbering, and changed the starting number to the correct one. That's when the Table and figure numbers started renumbering from 1.
I'm thinking it might be better to compile as a book, but I'm getting the "unvailable fonts" message. I've checked every font and they seem to be OK, but there's 150 pages and a zillion tags. Is there any way to make a global deletion ofo fonts? I can see the problem fonts screened back iin the font list.

i am very new in ABAP. I want to create a Transaction/view in SAP BW where i can put my favourite Abap reports and tables and execute These directly from the created view/Transaction without se16/se11 or se38 Access and dont know if this is possible and how to do it.

So you try to bypass security checks put in place by the Basis team
or could you explain your requirement ?
Remember (or learn) that creating such transaction, you are able to bypass following authorization checks using SU24 (Identity Management, User and Role Administration of Application Server ABAP, AS ABAP Authorization Concept, From the Programmed Authorization Check to a Role, Editing Authorization Default Data (Development System) / Editing Authorization Default Data (Customer System). )

Numbering and TOC for pics and tables

Is there a way to connect a title to a table, image or graph that contain an automatic numbering system allowing me to build a TOC for each of the objects referred and also keeping me from doing the numbering manually? I am writing an academic work and that would be really helpful.

The easiest way:
1) Define in RTF template new field (before numbers output) with following code:
<?xdoxslt:set_variable($_XDOCTX,'RN', 0)?>This is defining of variable with 'RN' name and zero deafult value.
2) Include in each loop field with:
<?xdoxslt:set_variable($_XDOCTX, 'RN', xdoxslt:get_variable($_XDOCTX, 'RN')+1)?><?xdoxslt:get_variable($_XDOCTX, 'RN')?>where fisrt part is inremental updating of variable RN and second part - printing current value of RN variable.

   Could anybody help me to solve my problem?
   Actualy I am working with one DropDownByIndex and two
   Tables.Where within one viewset DropDown
   box and one Table(say Table1) are in one view and
   another one table(say Table2) is in other view.
   DropDown box is maped with one attribute suppose
   countryName and and Table1 is maped with collageName
   and locationName. So, when I will select the DropDown
   with one countryName then the table1 will show all the
   available collageName and locationName with multiple
   row.
   In other view I mean the Table2 is bind with
   availableCourse and courseDuration this two
   attributes. So whin I will click one row of Table1
   that means one collegeName is selected then the
   Table2 will show the availableCourse and
   courseDuration for that particular college. When I
   will select next row of Table1 then the value of
   Table2 will be different.
   Could anybody help me by sending the code and
   details?

One way is to get lead selected of drop down index , then get lead selected of table1 and pass it via a method to wdDoInit in the 3rd view so that you know what has been clicked in table1 and then accordingly get the data in table2.
Another way you can do this is to map the tables and drop down index to value nodes and create them in the component controller and then map these value nodes to the respective views. Now when your table2 view is triggered you get the lead selected in the value node of the table1 and accordingly generate the table2.

1) stop using generic tools to analyze specific problems
2) define you problem in detail ()what are you really trying to accomplish - seems like performance tuning, but you never really state that)
3) define the OS and DB version - in detail. Give rev levels and patch levels.
If you are having a serious performance issue, I strongly recommend you look at some performance tuning specialists like "http://www.method-r.com/", "http://www.miracleas.dk/", "http://www.hotsos.com/", "http://www.pythian.com/", or even Oracle's Performance Tuning consultants. Definitely worth the price of admission.

Movie captions for deaf and hard of hearing users

Hello. I'm a Deaf user of an iBook G4. Recently, Mac has released a new program that allows us to purchase movies or TV shows from itunes for $9.99. As a Deaf user, I found out that I coudn't watch the movies, they were not captioned. Is it that itunes simply forgot to add the caption function to the movies? It would be great if someone could tell me if anything is being done about this. I would love to be able to buy movies and watch them on the laptop.
another note: what about the ipod videos? As of now, there is not a function on the ipods that allow us to watch movies with captions. Some people might say that the words would be too small on the screen. But as a deaf user.. size does not matter.. and i'd love to have an ipod to watch movies since i don't listen to music that much and I currenly do not own an ipod.
any information about this would be really helpful. Maybe theres a solution I don't know about.

Of course we understand that are the studios provide the captions, but we are only secondary clients, and we need the pressure of the primary client that is Apple.
I think that we all be grateful if iTunes can make this negotiation for us.

I talked to an apple represenative today. They
said
the problem lies in the movies that they get from

movie makers do not come with the captions in the
movie. Is there a way to make sure that the movies
come with the captions in the moive? They do come
with them on DVDs that I get from the movie rental
store... I don't see why they can't come with
captions from the itunes store.
There is no techincal reason... The distributors
simply do not provide the information to apple. Your
beef is really with them. As far as I know none of
the movies afre in any way closed captioned. You
should probably be better off writing to the studios
about this.

Skype's Australian Online Numbers are not allowed to be used as Caller ID when calling from Skype. Only numbers from a few countries (Chile, Denmark, Estonia, Hong Kong, Poland, Sweden, the UK and the US) can be used as Caller ID when calilng telephones from Skype accounts.
I don't know the exact reason(s) why Australian Online Numbers can't be used for Caller ID. I have an Australian Online Number myself (a Melbourne 03 xxxx xxxx number). It could be limitations from Skype's partner in Australia that provides the Online Numbers and the connections to the Australian telephone network, or Australian regulations that prevent the use of these numbers as Caller ID.

Default Max rows for pivot and table view that can display

Hi Experts,
what was the Maximum number of pivot table records,Maximum number of pivot table populated cells,Maximum number of table view rows by default in OBIEE.
If i want to see where i can found all these things in OBIEE.
If i want to change the default range of these rows is there any maximum limit for setting manually also or we can set any number of records.(i.e. if i want to display 100000 records will accept or there will be any range for setting also)

Troubles with RH's transformation of FM figure titles' & table captions' formats... Same problem?

Is anyone else experiencing problems with RH not correctly transforming FM figure and table titles? I can get most of my design to work, but I am having a problem with RH not following-through with some of my table title format and figure title format specifications.
I am having problems with RH not correctly applying, or inconsistently applying, figure title and table caption attributes ("Paragraph" settings) that I specify through Project Settings | Import | Edit | Conversion Settings.
For example (in FM Table Designer), I have a table title paragraph design, "TT.Table Title", in which I specify Title > Above Table, and specify a paragraph design (FM style) of Arial, 10pt, regular, bold, 0" indents, alignment left. It works fine direct to print or PDF; the same is true with figure titles.
In RH (through Project Settings | Import > Edit | Conversion Settings [FrameMaker Settings] > Paragraph), I specify that the FM style is to transform through an RH style that I define (through Edit Style button > Styles > Format > Paragraph). I set the alignment, etc., as is required through RH, but when I look at the Design view and/or generate the output (say...Webhelp), RH has not correctly interpreted one or more of my specification's attributes.
For example, in the case of my table titles, in Design view, RH has centered the title (or in RH terms, the ''Caption") above the table. Or sometimes the bold attribute is missing. In Project Manager, if I right-click and select View, the title/caption sometimes appears as specified; however, if I Generate the WebHelp (or HTML Help, or whatever), the bold formatting isn't there.
I thought that maybe RH defaulted figure and table titles to a Caption, as that is what it calls that part in the Design view. But when I set Caption to my specs, it made no difference.
Any thoughts?

I may be off at a tangent here as this is a wild guess.
HTML recognises Table Heading and Table Text, RH does not recognise the Table Heading selector. Maybe with your knowledge of FM's table caption and that tidbit of information, you can change something in your FM table to avoid the problem, if indeed there is a link.
