Numbers interoperabilty with Windows

I posted earlier about concerns with Numbers and Pages and the difficulties I was having. The post was deleted, and I as think back for a minute the title did appear inflammatory, and that is not allowed in the terms of use. For that I am sorry.
But I did end the post (which was posed as a question) asking for some guidance on how to make iWork work for me. In my experience with Apple I have had only 2 issues. System 6 when I bought my Mac Plus and iWork. Everything and I mean everything about my dealings with Apple as a company has been absolutely wonderful. If you think about it that's many many years of being an Apple "Fan Boy". If you look at what I currently own in the details it's all Apple, and they will take my Apple stuff away from me when they "pry it from my cold dead hands".
Perhaps the issues I had with iWork are a result of my own impatience, because I really thought that iWork would be my nirvana an allow me to get rid of all things MicroSoft on my Mac, for only one reason, They don't run native, they run in Rosetta. See part about impatience above
When I spoke to an Apple Store rep today and we talked about iWork, she told me that based upon what I told her iWork was not for me. Again my bad for not asking enough relevant questions before I purchased the software.
So anyway I'm back to Office 2004 VERY reluctantly and will go back to iWork in a hearbeat when I am able to get it to work for me.
Thanks to all in this forum and all the others.

The music sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The only exception is itunes purchases.  File>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.  Use your backup copy to move everything to your new computer.

  • Syncing iphone with windows 7 contacts - error message outlook.pst not foun

I have set set up ITunes to sync my Iphone GS with Windows Contacts. When I sync I get an error message :
The file c:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\Outlook.pst could not be found
Sometimes the error message comes up 2 or 3 times.
Secondly, my Iphone is syncing with something because an old version of my windows address book is now on my iphone. Of course if I add a new contact to Windows Contacts, it does not appear on my iphone.
I dont have Outlook installed on my PC. It was removed, but I guess I do have an old outlook.pst file from my old times with Windows XP.
So how does Itunes manage the sync and how can I stop it syncing with my old address book and use Windows Contacts? I have tried resetting my sync history but it did not work.
I am running Windows7 (upgrade from Vista).

I am also having issues with syncing my Iphone 3GS with the latest version on Itunes. I have for a long while now been doing just great. My contacts, phone numbers, emails have all synced very nicely, no problems. As soon as I downloaded the new Itunes 9.1 I can no longer sync contacts, and calendars, as usual.
I tried several things that were suggested to me in the troubleshooting but nothing has helped. It usually tells me that my computer is not set up for syncing, and after arranging that it still doesn't work. As well, it says it cannot find the requested services.
    Please help.
I am running windows 7, and have been for a while, it's not windows 7, it's the new Itunes upgrade.

  • Is CS2 compatible with windows 8

I have just purchaeed a new windows 8 PC and I'm having problems installing my CS2. Is CS2 compatible with windows 8. It won't let me intall into the programs (x86) folder. I have manually put a Adobe folder into the programs (x86) folder and installed directly into that folder but it won't take my serial number. Says the serial number is invalid

Not sure if it's 100% compatible, but basic functions seems to be working, no crash so far - tested on 64-bit Windows 8 Professional. Played just a few minutes, though - was curious if all that "free CS2!" is real, rather than really needed it . Installed it in "D:\Adobe", used software and serial numbers provided by Adobe at http://www.adobe.com/downloads/cs2_downloads/index.html.

  • Can't print both sides (manually) with Windows 7 but can with XP

My OfficeJet 5510 has "Print Both Sides" as an option on the "Finishing" tab, when I use it from the desktop running XP, which it's connected to with USB. That option doesn't appear anywhere when I try to print from my laptop running Windows 7, over a wireless network. This issue seems to be mentioned in many posts, but never seems to be answered. Is 2-sided printing (manually reinserting the pages) an option with Windows 7, or just with XP?

Hi  - The difference is that with XP, you're using the HP print driver and with Win7, you're using the Microsoft driver, since it doesn't look like HP made a "Full-featured" driver for the OJ5510, since Win7 came out well after the OJ5510 released.  Unfortunately, it doesn't look like you'll be able to manually print on both sides of the page unless the software app you're printing from offers a feature.  If the app doesn't have an option specifically for manual duplexing, you might be able to specify printing only odd numbered pages, then re-loading those pages and printing the even numbered pages.  Not a great workaround, but at least an option.
    Hope that helps.

  • Problem with Windows XP after a driver instalation

Hi. I have a Lenovo SL400 with Windows XP. So, today I installed a few drivers from the Lenovo website because the volume and Lenovo Care keys and the bluetooth were not working since I changed to XP. After the installing process, I restarted my laptop and now just when its about to open the window to entet my password I get this blue screen for around 1 second and then it restarts itself, to do the same over and over again. The blue screen shows a four line message saying there is an error and some numbers. I have tried every option in the F8 menu and got nothing. Help me, please, I'm desperate :s

    my friend isten carefully:
    i have a g500,in which i tested a xp clean install(both x64 & x86 versions of xp*)(service pack 3 for the x86 version*).
all the features work EXCEPT:when i install the wireless/bluetooth i start to receive the bsod(blue screen of death)
i assume there is a VERY big issue(incompatibility) between the "high speed"(4.0 HS)adapter which is plugged in in this machine(and i also assume you have the same problem on your model).
thing is........this adapter cannot work on windows xp,because:the intel chipset setup&the intel management engine interface setup have both tell your machine to work with specific "rules"(after the installation of these mentioned packages).
that means, your system works fine, untill you try to install the bluetooth/wireless driver!
after this installation, you receive this blue screen because the driver might be supossed/planned to work under windows xp,but the wifi/bluetooth adapter might NOT be working after the specific intel setup!..and that is a huge bug (in my opinion always).
there is a workarround i think, but it demands that you actually must DOWNGRADE the motherboard setup(intel chipset drivers)or transform it to sth else, rather than what it is.
the above has a result that the machine "sees" the usb ports as "generic"(...if i remember well)and then you can install the wifi/bluetooth set up normally.
the whole problem stands on what i just mentioned:the wifi adapter is plugged under "internal usb" WHICH HAS TO WORK AS 3.0, BUT usb 3.0 IS NOT supported under win xp(or vista)!!!!!..so that's why the driver you(...and me)installed is the CORRECT ONE(according to the manufacturer)but THE MOTHERBOARD ON WHICH it is installed is NOT the suitable one(after the chipset setup installed of course!)
Hope what i wrote helps everyone(plus Lenovo .....TO FIX IT!)

at least that the operator has confirmed to me that he called me. I also have problems with either the start of the mac with the power off. I can not understand if it crashes or is just very very slow.
Finally, I have a problem with the external hard disck. I often said to have been ejected incorrectly (not true) and I start to restore the startup recovery disk because disk utility is ineffective from the normal operating system .. is a shocking thing, but how you reduced. in four years it had never happened. seem to have windows or worse. You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar
You can make '''Firefox 7.0.1''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. • Very slow Access 2002 query with Windows 7

I need help troubleshooting consistently slow queries in an Access 2002 database with Windows 7.
I’m running a temporary query in a local copy of a back end database with only tables. The identical query will take just 2-3 seconds with Windows XP but 30-60 seconds with Windows 7. Multiple Windows 7 workstations are all slow and
all Windows XP machines run the query quickly.  I even used JetShowPlan on both workstations to compare and the plans are identical. Two tables are involved with rushmore used on the first and a full scan on the second table of about 150,000 records.
Even in XP Mode on the Windows 7 machine the query still takes only about 10 seconds. Anyone have any ideas why Access/Jet on Windows 7 can be so slow? Thanks for any ideas.
    Rick Collard

    Hi Tony,
Thanks for the pointer - I had found that one earlier and tried it - did not help.  I think the HP ProtectTools Security Manager is Normally loaded
on Laptops - my problem is on Workstation.  I did a test of 2007 Access in the Virtual XP Mode window - There is works 'normally'.
    To give you an idea how Slow a query in 2007 access/W7 is;
I started a search for part numbers with 'busbar' in their description...
on W7 - Database is LOCAL to WS and upgraded to Office 2007
I then opened an XP Mode window
Opened the 2007 Access DB to the 'normal' database located on fileserver.
    enter the same Part search
    counted to 10 - 19 Parts found
    Closed DB
    Closed XP Mode window
Waited about 2 minutes... same 19 parts found....  Wonderful!
I will wait till my MS Rep can get me in line for the Hot fix or MS releases it.  Till then I will teach the Users how to Use XP Mode.

  • Compliance of Oracle 10g R2 with Windows XP SP2

    Hello everybody
I am representing my company for making a decision of deploying appropriate versions for Oracle and Windows.
The vendor suggested Oracle 9 on Windows Server 2003, whereas we opted for deploying Oracle 10g R2 with Windows XP SP2.
    According to the vendor
XP is not a true 'server' product and therefore does not provide many server functions and may have restrictions on numbers of users that can connect.
If the vendor's notion is correct, would anyone explain the limitations/restrictions of our solution.

One of the first problems that you will encounter, inbound connections limit in Windows XP:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314882
Memory allocations are handled differently between Windows 2003 and XP (paged pool, non-paged pool, file system caching, etc.):
    http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778.aspx
In some cases the memory allocation differences can cause XP to display errors indicating "unable to allocate memory from the paged pool" or the non-paged pool, when Windows 2003 would otherwise continue functioning without problem. Windows 2003 offers a registry change to work around this problem:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/312362
Microsoft will stop making Windows XP available for resale in June 2008, except on extremely light-weight computers, and update support will end before update support ends for Windows 2003.
There are typically differences in the hardware that ships with a computer loaded with Windows XP and one that ships with Windows 2003. You will have a hard time finding a computer with Windows XP that ships with redundant power supplies, dual backplanes, SCSI RAID 10 support, dual network interfaces, built-in system/diagnostics, etc.
While Windows 2003 is the server equivalent of Windows XP, there are many features in Windows 2003 that are not available in Windows XP. XP is designed to be rebooted frequently (shut down every night, or reboot once a week or once a month) and is geared toward foreground application performance. Windows Server 2003 is designed to be rebooted infrequently (apply security updates, recover from rare system fatal bugs) and is geared toward providing good background application performance (the Oracle database instance would be a background application).
If you are unfamilar with Windows Server 2003, take a look at the books "Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Administrator's Companion" by Microsoft Press and "Mastering Windows Server 2003" by Sybex. Compare what you find in those books with what you might find in Microsoft's Windows XP Resource Kit book.

  • Need assistance with Windows 2008 R2 server BSOD - ATTEMPTED_EXECUTE_OF_NOEXECUTE_MEMORY (fc)

Need assistance with Windows 2008 R2 server BSOD - ATTEMPTED_EXECUTE_OF_NOEXECUTE_MEMORY (fc)
I have a Windows 2008 R2 server which is experiencing random BSOD during the night. This is occurring maybe once or twice a week. I have gathered two Memory crash files. This server is running Citrix XenApp 6.5 but nothing else is reporting an issue except
for the memory dump. I’m looking for assistance in reading crash file and finding the cause.
I’ve spent over a week going through articles trying to learn and trouble shoot the BSOD but no closer to understanding the WinDbg 6.3.9600 report.
This is a production server and I have verified that Windows Updates has updated the server with latest releases. I’m hoping that the crash file will show something before I have to run the Driver Verifier.

  • Euro Symbol with Windows 7 Bootcamp

I'm using a Macbook with Windows 7 via Bootcamp and I'm having a hard time finding the Euro Symbol. I've tried every combo of numbers+alt+shift. Is there a shortcut for this symbol in bootcamp? I do not want to keep copying and pasting it from the internet into my doccuments.

In my case, using Mac Aluminum keyboard, looking at this:

Pressing Right Alt key and key  0 1 2 8 in numeric keypad
causes € to appear when you stop pressing on Alt Key.

  • WRT54G not compatible with Windows Vista?

When I used to have Windows XP I found connecting to the router simple, and reliable.  However I just got a new computer with Windows Vista, and for some reason I can't seem to install the router anymore.  I tried inserting the Linksys CD and I followed all of the directions and it goes to check the router's status it brings up a page that tells me to right click my internet connections or something and my computer still doesn't find the router but connects to Realtek or something a long those lines.  Thanks for any help.

  • N900 won't pair with Windows 7 PC

Has the bluetooth on the N900 been fully implemented yet? My E90 has no problems connecting with connecting to my Windows 7 computer, but the N900 times out with error code 0x80004005. The N900 and the E90 have no problems pairing with each other. I'm using a Broadcom 2046 based dongle with the latest drivers.

I have the Same problem with Windows 7 not seing the N900. Come up with driver error. Have no problems in pairing other bluetooth devicessuch as headset, gps reciever, N78 phone.
Also when Paring, when Using Numbers, It display the lower case characters even holding the Bue Arrow for normal use with numbers. I had to hold down the White up arrow when pressing the Number key to display the number characters.

  • Z640 about to order, any dates for shipping with Windows 10 ?

As I heard rumours that Win 10 may be shipping circa 24th -26th July , i thought I might delay the order so it arrives ( built to order) with Windows 10
    A) anyvody know when the new OS will start shipping?
    B) would experienced users sugggest asking for a down grade to Win7 Pro - or is Windows 10 have a good pre launch rep ( unlike Windows 8 did ).
When formulating your advice please note Imam crap with computers and the only thing I want to do is add more discs later . No interest in RAID etc. - just want it simple.
I was going to order with 2 x 16 GB - appreciating that 4 x 8 would be better, but dont want to have to discard RAM later if 32 GB is not enough.
Will 32 GB be enough - interested in any users real world experience please.....

I knew you had the knowledge to move the data; but I've seen a lot of folks get into trouble doing it.
And most have an inflated idea of how much data their systems write.
What kind of write load do you actually have?
Virtually all drives provide SMART monitoring of how much data has been written, as well as projected lifespan, and information on expected program/erase cycles is available online.
The Samsung 850 Pro, for example, should last 6,000 program/erase cycles.  Being conservative and assuming a really bad 3:1 write amplification (which is an overestimate), imagine being able to write the entire SSD and erase it 2,000 times.
For a single 512 GB SSD, that would be 1 terabyte of write load per day for almost 3 years.  Remember, you can read it as many times as you like; NAND only wears on erase cycles, which happen during re-writes.
Most people do not write anywhere near 1 terabyte of data per day.  I use my system heavily and in my case (including it being an SVN server) and I don't even reach 20% of that.  I'm spreading the write load across 4 drives with the RAID
array so the load on any one device is divided further.
But you don't have to guess at what you're writing - what does your SMART data say?
See this article for some real-world tests/results re: endurance...
    http://techreport.com/review/26523/the-ssd-endurance-experiment-casualties-on-the-way-to-a-petabyte
With larger SSDs the numbers generally work out so well that people shouldn't even give wearout a second thought.  And everyone should do backups to mitigate potential data loss regardless.

  • Week old laptop with Windows 8.1 giving blank screen at Startup

I have a HP Laptop. I don't know the exact model number but it has the following configuration :- Intel Core-i5 4210u
1.7Ghz Processor, Nvidia 820M GPU and 4GB RAM. It came preinstalled with Windows 8.1
Now this is my problem :-
Whenever I power-up the laptop by using the power-button, I get the Windows 8 logo and than instead of the login-screen it
gives me a black screen. Its not even a black screen, the display is exactly as it is when the laptop turned off(nothing
at all on the screen). But I know that the laptop is running because the power button and caps-lock key is illuminated.
Now I discovered that in order to get to the Login Screen, I have to manually close the lid and open it. This however does
not work everytime. How can I fix it.
Please someone help me. It is a new laptop and I can't return it because I bought t from a different country

    Hello svmpua,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you are having issues with a blank display on your new notebook. It would help to know which product you are using. For information on finding your product and model numbers click here: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
In the meantime I would suggest going through this document for your issue: Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boot.
You may also want to confirm if this is a hardware or software issue. Does the BIOS screen load properly? You can access this by repeatedly tapping F10 while the computer turns on. If this does not load properly try an external monitor to determine if it is a hardware problem. If it does load OK, you may want to try safe mode and see if the display works properly there.
Furthermore, it could be the physical connections on the display cable. Opening and closing the lid may be wiggling the cable enough to reseat the connection temporarily. You can see how to reseat that connection in the Service and Maintenance Guide. This will not void your warranty as long as you follow the directs. You can find the guide in the User Guides section of the support page for your product, which will require the exact product or model number.
