Numbers Line Fixation

Please Helpppp: Is there in NUMBERS a function like in EXCEL where I can fix one or more lines or colums on the upper and/or left side of the document so that I can scroll down or right and these lines/colums stay in place? E.g. to have a sum or other formular there and alway see the result..
Thanks

  • Numbered lines in pdf file

Converted Word file with numbered lines to pdf, but the numbers themselves did not convert. How do I add numbers to pdf lines?

Closely evaluate the authoring file's configuration. If an "auto-number" style prefix was used you may want to look that over. Regardless, with a correct configuration the numbers would be part of the content that goes to the PDF.

  • Numbers Line Graph is more annoying than Miley Cyrus

Hello and thanks for taking time to read and answer my question.  So I have a science fair project coming up and numbers is being very annoying.  My experiment is testing the affect of temperature on the effectiveness of magnets.  My table looks like this:
    Magnet 1
    Magnet 2
    Magnet 3
    Magnet 4
    Magnet 5
    Average
    74 Degrees

All I want to do is make a simple line graph that will show the correlation (or lack of one) However, when I try to make it into a graph, I keep either getting no lines at all or only the line for the average.  Why is this?  What am I doing wrong?  Help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks so much,
    Colton
I'm using numbers 3.1 by the way.

    Hi Colton,
"I keep either getting no lines at all or only the line for the average.  Why is this? "
It's because the column labeled Average is the only one containing numbers. Appending the g or " Degrees" forces Numbers to regard the values in the other columns as Text, which has no numerical value, and can't be graphed.
With the text stripped from those numerical values you can produce either of these two graphs. See the notes below regrding the major differences.
    Scatter chart with connected points
    Line chart
Cosmetically, the line graph appears with thicker lines connecting the data points, and with all symbols set to open circles. I thickened the connecting lines on the scatter chart to make them more visible, and made the Average line about 40% thicker than the others. No changes were made to the lines on the line chart.
The legend for both (Magnet 1, Magnet 2, etc.) appears as a horizontal line (or lines) of text. Selecting the box, then dragging either handle toward the other forces the labels into a vertical stack, which can then be moved to a visually better position.
The main functional difference between the two types is in the purpose of the X axis.
In the scatter chart, both X and Y axes are Value axes—the position of each data point is determined vertically by its Y value and horizontally by its X value.
The Line chart is a Category chart. Category charts have one Value axis (here the Y axis) and one Category axis (here the X axis). Categories are equally spaced along the Category axis, and the data points' vertical position(in this example) is determined by the Y value of the point.
In your case, the difference can be seen in the (horizontal) distance between the first two samples in each series compared to the (horizontal) distance between other ajacent pairs in the same series. In the Line chart, these distances are all the same. In the Scatter chart the first pair (74° and 200°) are more widely separated than the others (each 50° higher than the temperature before it).
In cases where you are trying to show a relationship (or lack of relationship) between two sets of values (speed vs braking distance, temperature vs volume, etc.) a scatter chart usually gives a better representation.
Practical note: Values must be placed in non-Header rows and columns. Labels, including Category labels, must be placed in Header Rows or Header columns to be picked up by the chart. The formatting of the pasted data in your initial post indicates the temperatures are in a Header column. The column labels are (and should be) in a Header row.
    Good luck with your project!
    Regards,
    Barry
PS: You might want to check the meanings of "affect" and "effect" before commiting yourself to either on your display and in your report.
PPS to Yellowbox: HI Ian. Looks like you got started earlier and/or wrote faster thn I did! Something odd happened in the example in your first post. The category labels have been offset one cata set to the right, and there's no 350.

  • Numbering lines based on two columns

    Hi Everyone,
I´d like to know if there is a way to achieve the numbering presented on the second table below with only native Oracle functions, like ROW_COUNT() over partition, etc.
    I´m using Oracle 10g.
    The logic used is:
Starting from 1, increment one every time the ORIGIN is the same as the FIRST ORIGIN of the group of rows (ID).
    ID    ORIGIN    DESTINATION    ORDER
    1     A         B              1
    1     B         A              2
    1     A         B              3
    1     B         C              4
    1     C         A              5
    ID     ORIGIN    DESTINATION    ORDER    NUMBERING
    1      A         B              1        1
    1      B         A              2        1
    1      A         B              3        2
    1      B         C              4        2
1      C         A              5        2In order to compare the ORIGIN of each row with the FIRST ORIGIN of the group I used the LAG function to create a column that will have the FIRST ORIGIN of the group value.
However I was not able to number the lines as shown above (column NUMBERING).
Any help will be much appreciated.
    Test query:
    WITH T AS
SELECT 1 ID, 'A' ORIGIN, 'B' DESTINATION, 1 ORDERING FROM DUAL UNION ALL
SELECT 1 ID, 'B' ORIGIN, 'A' DESTINATION, 2 ORDERING FROM DUAL UNION ALL
SELECT 1 ID, 'A' ORIGIN, 'B' DESTINATION, 3 ORDERING FROM DUAL UNION ALL
SELECT 1 ID, 'B' ORIGIN, 'C' DESTINATION, 4 ORDERING FROM DUAL UNION ALL
SELECT 1 ID, 'C' ORIGIN, 'A' DESTINATION, 5 ORDERING FROM DUAL
      SELECT T.ID
           , T.ORIGIN
           , T.DESTINATION
           , T.ORDERING
           , LAG (T.ORIGIN, T.ORDERING -1, 0) OVER (PARTITION BY T.ID
                                                        ORDER BY T.ID
                                                               , T.ORDERING) FIRST_ORIGIN_OF_GROUP
        FROM T
    ORDER BY T.ID
           , T.ORDERING

    Hi,
    Here's one way:
    WITH     got_first_origin     AS
         SELECT     id, origin, destination, ordering
,     FIRST_VALUE (origin) OVER ( PARTITION BY  id
                                          ORDER BY         ordering
                                     ) AS first_origin
         FROM    t
    SELECT     id, origin, destination, ordering
    ,     COUNT ( CASE
                        WHEN  origin = first_origin
                  THEN  1
                    END
)     OVER ( PARTITION BY  id
                           ORDER BY      ordering
                   ) AS numbering
    FROM     got_first_origin
;This assumes that the combination of id and ordering is unique. Within an id, ordering does not have to be consecutive integers, or anything like that.
Analytic functions can't be nested (the argument to the anlytic COUNT function can't call the analytic FIRST_VALUE function); that's why the sub-query is necessary.
You could do something with LAG, like you tried, rather than FIRST_VALUE, but you'd still need a sub-query, for the same reason.

  • Numbering lines in Pages

    Hello everybody,
I need to add line numbers to my document, but don't know how to do this in Pages. Also, when I import a Word document with line numbers into Pages, then the numbers will disappear. Can anyone help?
(In general it would be also nice if Pages could show me in what line I am when working on my document. However, the bottom shows only the page but never the line. Also here, some advice would be greatly appreciated!).
    Thanks,
    Johannes

It still seems comparatively difficult though. If I understand it correctly, then I have to enter the line numbers myself, right? And those numbers would then be the same on every page, which is not what I need...
Also, I'd still like to see the line number as a general positional information at the bottom of Pages, so I know where I am in my document.
    Cheers,
    Johannes

  • RH8 conversion (bullet images and numbered lists are different)

    Version 8.0.2.208
    Conversion of 1200 htm files.
Has anyone experience bullet images in their custom styles changing from RH7 to RH8 and numbers in numbered lists resized?
    Bullets
I noticed that all my bullet images have changed. They are OK in Design view, but change when the topics are previewed and generated.
For example, if the style used a small square bullet image, it was changed to the bullet used at the beginning of this sentence.
If I attempt to create a new bullet list in the existing topic using the Normal style (Arial 12)  and Formatting Toolbar (Bullets), the bullet and text are changed to (Arial 10) and the style name changes to (none) in Design view. Preview and generated is also Arial 10 for both.
    Numbered Lists
Most of the existing converted topics used the Normal style and Formatting Toolbar (Numbers) for numbered lists. There is spacing between each numbered line. The numbers and text are in (Arial 12) in Design view, but the numbers are (Arial 10) when the topics are previewed and generated and the text remains (Arial 12).
If I select the numbered list, click the numbered list icon to turn off numbering, and then click to turn on numbering, the numbers and text are (Arial 10) and the style is changed to (none). Output and preview are (Arial 10). The spacing between the numbered items is deleted.
I have to then highlight that list and change the style back to Normal for (Arial 12) text.
If I attempt to create a new numbered list in the existing topic using the Normal style (Arial 12)  and Formatting Toolbar (Bullets), the bullet and text are changed to (Arial 10) and the style name changes to (none) in Design view. Preview and generated is also Arial 10 for both.
This has taken up a lot of my time. Any clues?
    Donna

I went to the link you provided.I am still confused as to the step by step procedure to fix my custom bullet style that is used throughout my project. Can you globally fix this issue? It would be too time consuming to figure out where in 1200 topics this style is used. I guess I don't understand list styles.
    Custom Style = BulletList
My custom (BulletList) style -  Design mode:
    Preview mode (incorrect)
Another topic using ths sam (BulletList) style - Preview mode (incorrect should be square bullets)
I select Format > Styles in design mode. Right-click on BulletList, select Edit.
If I ceate a bulleted list, the square bullet is selected.

  • Line spacing varies with every other line in a paragraph

I have a couple of pages documents in which the line height (leading) varies from line to line in a paragraph. Actually, it looks like after every even numbered line there is more space between that and the following line than the odd numbered lines and the line after that. What's up with this?

    Hello
As I received a sample page, I applied your tip.
It changes the line spacing but the aspect remains the same.
At this time, my guess is that it is an optical effect due to the fact that in some lines there are large chunks of lowercases like aeiou but fee "high" letter like fhkl
while other lines contain more of these "high" letters.
If it is really that, there is no automatic soluce in Pages. As far as I know, only programs like xPress or inDesign are able to treat correctly this problem (gris typographique in French).

    Hi Labrat,
My suggestion would be to create a Template in the Page Layout mode. This template would have a 1-column Table to present the line numbers and a Text Box for the Body Text. If you want the Line Numbers to stay in alignment with the Body Text, set the spacing for both to Exactly. Set the Table Cell Borders to None. The faint cell borders that you see in the following example are there because I am in View Layout mode. They will not show when printed.
For my example I have used Format > Advanced > Capture Pages to create a Pull-down +Page option for a Numbered Line Page. You can Capture as many versions of your numbered pages as you like to avoid having to modify the Line Numbers on successive pages.
    Here's my example:

  • How to number lines of text?

I would like to number lines of text continously throughout the book. I am trying to make lines of text easier to find when my class is having discussions about the book.

It seems to me that you are either using the wrong tool for the job or your book is too wordy for this type of presentation.
    1. If it is extremely wordy then use an application on the Mac such as iText Pro that can number lines and then export or Print to pdf with the numbered lines in place.
    2. If it is not so wordy then simple description or location should be sufficient to find anything or you use lists that hone the student down to the exact subject point.
Isn't "15.9.11" close enough for even those that need to follow the text with their fingers?

  • Media Encoder adds thin green line on FLVs

I am using Adobe Media Encoder CS5 to convert .mov files to .flv files. When I render the files a thin (~2 px) green line appears on the bottom of the video.
When I used Media Encoder to format into F4V the line does not appear. See image below for example. Both files were encoded using the same Instance of Media Encoder and the same source file.
    Things I have tried
I have tried encoding without resizing the video (Native 902x507)
I have tried resizing to make sure video dimensions are divisible by 4 (904x508)
I have used both CBR and VBR have same effect
I have changed bitrate to higher with same effect
    Note:
The source video does not have the green line
    System:  Windows 7 64x - 8GB RAM
    Source video
    format:*.MOV, codec:H.264, size:902x507, framerate: 29.97 fps, Data rate: 6.82 mbits/sec
Any suggestions on how to remove this?

I set up some quick tests and found that yes, transcoding a 902x507 H.264-encoded QuickTime file to FLV with AME 5.0.2 causes a green horizontal line.  It occurs at line 507, but doesn't go all the way across.  If I use the Crop option to trim off the bottom pixel of the source, the green line still occurs, but this time at line 505.  The difference is due to the scaling that AME is adding to the render process when Crop is turned on.
    A little sleuthing reveals:
    1) A 902x507 QuickTime file encoded with the Animation codec does not cause this problem.  This tells me the cause of the problem is in the H.264 decode, not the FLV encode.  It probably doesn't show up in the F4V encode because F4V is H.264 with a Flash wrapper, thus not much transcoding is actually being done.  Transcoding to other formats has the same problem, though.
    2) The output dimensions of the FLV are 912x512.  This is despite that AME shows the settings for the export as 902x508 (or 902x506 with the pixel trimmed from the bottom).  The FLV exporter appears to be rounding up to the nearest value that is evenly divisible by 16.  This is a bug, but has already fixed for a future release of AME.
I had success using the Crop option to trim the size of the source file to 896x496 (the next multiple of 16 down).  Take 3 pixels off both the left and right, 6 pixels off the top, and 5 pixels off the bottom.  I did not have success by changing the output dimensions directly to 896x496; this is because resizing doesn't trim pixels, it pads where necessary and retains all source pixels, including the "bad", odd-numbered line that is causing the problem.  Trimming them via crop is the only way to avoid having AME attempt to transcode those pixels.
Otherwise, I recommend you work around the problem by:
    A) Going back to the media source and exporting a file that doesn't have an odd-numbered dimension.
    B) Transcoding the file in another application to a different format (ex.: QuickTime with a different codec) or a non-odd-numbered dimension before using AME to transcode the file to FLV.
I am curious- what is the source of this QuickTime file, and why 902x507?  Those are unusual dimensions.

  • Align numbers on decimal in tables...

does anyone know how to align numbers on the decimal point in tables? positive numbers line up fine, but once I introduce negative numbers wrapped in parentheses (standard business format) the alignment is all messed up.
I'm really hoping there's some way to do this. I bought iWork today because I thought it would be easier to layout my documents (which include lots of tables that need to be aligned on the decimal point!) than Word and PowerPoint.
    thanks in advance!
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi dmacg,
    Welcome to the Pages forum.
Pages does allow you to align numbers on the decimal. Here's an easy way to do it:
    1. Select the cells of the table you want to format, so that they have a yellow border (hold down either the shift or option key to select multiple cells).
    2. Open the Inspector (View > Show Inspector; or just click on the Inspector button on the tool bar)
    3. Click on the Big T in the Inspector then choose 'Tabs'.
    4. On the bottom lefthand corner of the Inspector pane, you will see a Plus and Minus sign. Click on the Plus sign to add a new Tab. Choose 'Decimal' for Alignment
    5. Specify the distance in from the edge of the cell for the tab (either in the box in the Inspector or via the tab button on the document ruler), and you're done.
    6. Now to tab the figures in in cells, place the cursor before the number and press the option+tab keys (Pressing just tab takes you to the next cell). All figures you tab across will now line up on the decimal, regardless of whther they are positive or negative, or how many decimal places you have.
As always, play around a bit with the feature to get an idea of what it can do for you.
    Hope this is helpful.

    Hi all
Im trying to get a query that show info about lines of invoices and i need to show a number of row (begin on 1 for each invoice) on a query results
INV1.Linenum col don´t useful for me cause im managed batchNum for item
How can i do it for numbering  lines on my query results?
    Actually im showing:
       NºInvoice - NºLinea - ItemCode
       0001-0-item001-bacth01
       0001-0-item001-batch02
       0001-1-item002-bacthB1
       0001-1-item002-batchB2
An I want to show something like that:

       0001-3-item002-bacthB1
       0001-4-item002-batchB2
    thanks in advanced

    Hi,
I'm not sure I understand what you want...
Is it only a row number in your query result ?
If so, it's realy easy with Oracle (you can use rownum() ), a little harder with SQL 2005, but a lot more hard on SQL Server 2000.
Could you give us your query ?

  • Drop an "out of contract" line from family plan, but keep the number

I have a family plan with 4 numbers. One of the numbers (let's call it line#1) is out of contract, so I can drop it without penalty. However, this is my daughter's number and I really don't want it to change. Another of the numbers (line#2) is still under contract, but it is a phone number I don't need any more. Verizon will not let me "swap" these numbers and keep line#1 while dropping line#2 -- unless I pay the termination fee on line#2. So, I'm wondering if this will work:
    1. Port line#1 TO Google Voice (paying $20 to do so). This will cancel the Verizon contract for line#1.
    2. Activate my daughter's phone with line#2, and configure GV to forward calls/texts from line#1 to line#2.
    3. Wait a few days for things to stabilize.
    4. Port line#1 FROM Google Voice back TO Verizon, replacing the line#2 phone number.
At the end of this process, I will have effectively dropped the Verizon contract for line #1, have line#1 take over the contract formerly owned by line#2, and removed line#2 from my Verizon account. This is exactly what I explained to 3 different Verizon people, both over the phone and in a store -- and they claim that they can't do it because "the phone number is tied to the contract". They won't let me "swap" or "port" a number within my account, but they will let me replace the phone number on a currently active contract with an external number that gets ported in to Verizon. So, I need to port line#1 OUT of Verizon (paying Google $20 to do this) and then turn around and port it back IN to Verizon, replacing the line#2 phone number I no longer need. I don't see a reason why this will not work, unless Verizon has some self-serving rule about not porting in a number that was recently ported out. (Is there a "waiting period" involved here?) It's idiotic to me that Verizon would rather have me give $20 to Google to port a number out and back in rather than allow me to swap phone numbers on my Verizon account.
    Any thoughts?

    Thanks, 21stNow and Brian68.
Understood. I use Google Voice as my primary number now, but my daughter would prefer not to mess with it. She wants HER number (line#1) to show up on outgoing calls/texts using the native dialer/messaging apps. She has an iPhone, and I'm an Android guy, so I don't know how well GV integrates with the iPhone's native dialer/messaging apps. (On my Android, my GV number shows up on outgoing calls from the native dialer by choosing to "Use Google Voice to make all calls" in the GV app. I suspect this would be the same on the iPhone. However, texts sent using the native messaging app (not GV) come from my actual cell number -- even if I change the "Callback" number to my GV number.) I suppose I could train her to use GV for messaging, but GV does not handle MMS or group texts -- it just ignores them! I don't care about this, but my 20 year old daughter does!
Regarding being unable to port the number back into Verizon, is this a restriction because it is a former Verizon number? As I understand it, I can log into MyVerizon and choose to "Change Mobile Number" on one of my active contracted lines. There is an option to port in a number to replace the number currently on that line. Other threads suggest that porting from Google Voice works the same as a landline port. Has anyone tried this and had success/failure?
