Numbers won't open on Macbook Air

I went ot open Numbers this morning on my Macbook Air and got the spinning rainbow wheel. Numbers will not open - everything worked fine ysterday. All other applications seem to work fine. I also have the current version. Three days before I can get to the Genius Bar...any suggestions?

MIke,
Try a computer ReStart.
When you Re-Launch Numbers from the Dock or Finder, hold down the Shift key to prevent any documents from opening that may have been open when Numbers was last shut down.

  • Keynote from Powerbook G4 won't open on Macbook Air

Apple wants fifty bucks to answer this question so I thought someone else may be willing to help. I have a Keynote I use my Powerbook (10.4)for, but I use a Macbook Air(10.6.6) for everything else. I'm going on a trip and don't want to lug both. I bought the right cable for the projector hook up but when I moved the doc over it won't open on the intel processor machine. What do I need?
    Thanks in advance,

Do you have the same version of Keynote on both? I have never done this with Keynote, but I just did with Pages this morning. Created a document on my old G4 at home and opened it this morning on my Intel iMac at work and had no problem.
There are a few things you would want to make sure of. First like I said above, you will need the same version of Keynote on both, or at least a newer version on the MacBook Air then is on the Powerbook. Second, make sure that all the fonts are on both computers. And finally, make sure that on the Powerbook, you have check the Preference button to include Pictures and Movies in the file.

  • Notes App won't open on MacBook Air

HI! I updated to OS X Mavericks on my MacBook Air a few weeks ago and I haven't been using Notes lately, so I don't know if not being able to open the app is related to the update or not.
Basically what happens is that every time I try to launch it, it "crashes" or closes right away.
I tried searching for the particular note I need and tried accessing it using Spotlight, but the same thing happens.
Anybody experience this before? Is there any way for me to recover my notes or open the app again?

You can't run iPad/iPhone apps on any Mac - it's a completely different operating system and you have to use applications designed for it. There is no equivalent app in the App Store which is available in your Applications folder, which is one way of obtaining Mac applications.

  • Used Migration Asst and Word / Excel won't open on Macbook Air

I used the migration assistant to transfer Microsoft Word from my Macbook Pro to my Air and originally it was working, but now everytime I try to open and Excel or Word doc, it launches the Microsoft Office Setup Assistant.  The only 2 options are to Learn More and Register.  I've clicked on both and they take me to a web browser where it shows me 2011.  I don't understand why it worked originally and now it's not working?
    Any suggestions?

Migration Assistant is usually pretty good at copying software and all the requisite library files, so on the face of it, this should have worked. It leads me to wonder hich version of MS Office are you trying to use?
ON EDIT: Prior versions of Office are PPC-native apps and Lion doesn't support non-Intel software. If your MBP was running a prior MacOS (10.5 or 10.6 for example) then an earlier Office suite would work on that, but not when transfered to a Lion-based system.

  • Pages and Numbers won't open existing documents.. Any clues?

    Hello!
I noticed yesterday that Pages and Numbers won't open existing documents.
I've tried to reinstall software, but no luck.
I've done no changes to my system, other than installing updates that have been made available.
    I run iWork '09 on a MacBook Pro 15" Mid 2010, with OSX 10.7.3.
I can view the documents in preview, but I really need them to work as they are work-related.
    What to do?

  • When I open my MacBook Air the keyboard comes up along with the screen and does not stay still?!

When I open my MacBook Air the keyboard comes up along with the screen and does not stay still. So I need to hold down the keyboard while i open it. Other than that it works fine despite the fact that the fan noise some times is loud and sometimes it's getting warm at the base. I wonder if this can be fixed if i go to one of the apple branches.

Yes. Take the computer to the Apple store to have it fixed.

  • I am trying to open my macbook air but it has blocked and it makes a beep sound.

I am trying to open my macbook air but it has blocked and it makes a beep sound. It wont turn on. Is there something i can do?

Assuming this is not the normal startup chime, one beep means no RAM...so something in the path to the RAM has failed.
Best option is the Apple store genius bar to have the techs test the system and see what is going wrong.

  • Numbers won't open but pages and keynote will

    Hi,
I brought iWork as a download (serial number sent by email which I have misplaced!) and was working fine until about 1 month ago. I can still use Pages and Keynote fine, but Numbers won't open. I click the icon on my dock but it just comes up with a transparent ? over the icon instead of opening.
    Anything I can do?

download iWork 9.05 and it will make your Keynotes happy again.
For some reason it is not included in the "update software"
    (1) are you sure that Software Update is supposed to deliver iWork's updates ? I'm not
    (2) the OP's problem is not related to Keynote (with no S) which behave flawlessly (as well as Pages) on his machine but it's a Numbers one. It's logical as he asked in a Numbers dedicated forum.
So, I'm afraid that what was useful for you would be useless for him.

  • Mail won't open on macbok air

    Hi there,
I'm in a bit of a panic because when I press the Mail icon on my macbook air - the page opens but then the small ball just keeps on rolling and it doesn't actually open. I have tried doing a Force Quit and restarting the computer 3 times but it still won't open!!! I have all my work and mails in this application and would be devastated to lose it...what should I try next...??? Could anyone out there help me please coz I don't get it..:-(
    Thanks..

If you have no backups at all, I suggest you shut down the computer immediately and don't turn it on again until you have at least one external hard drive (two or more recommended) to dedicate to backup. Each backup drive must have at least enough capacity to hold all the data on the internal drive comfortably, as well as any data that you have on secondary drives. Then follow the instructions in this support article.

  • Installed iWork 09' on Mavericks but Keynote and Numbers won't open. Pages opens fine

When I bought my Mac years ago, I purchased Pages on the app store. Pages and the rest of iWork has since been completely changed for the worst. I think we can all agree that it is a complete DISASTER. It's very dumbed down, templates were cut out, and stripped of its functionality. I'm not quite sure what Apple was thinking but fortunately for me and anyone else who purchased Pages 09' before the big switch, Pages 09' still exists on our computers and works fine. Unfortunately, I didn't download Keynote or Numbers when I bought the computer. Now that I want it, I thought I'd outwitted Apple and I decided to purchase the old iWork software on ebay. It installed "successfully" but when I went to open Keynote, it gave me an error message saying "check with the developer to make sure Keynote works with this version of OS X". If the old software for Pages 09' works, why wouldn't Keynote and Numbers? Please help!

I am getting the same exact error message, but I do not have Time Machine, so I cannot restore my system. I noticed that Pages would not load after I updated OS X to 10.7.4 on my MacBook Air. I also have an iMac at home that  has Pages installed. I had not updated the iMac to 10.7.4 yet, and I was able to open Pages. I next tried to open the version of Pages on my iMac while accessing it remotely on my Air. It gave the same message. Do you have any idea how I can fix this?

  • Proxy settings won't save on Macbook Air (Moutain Lion 10.8.5)

Hi -- would love some help. I've been trying to configure proxies on my Macbook Air (Web Proxy and Secure Web Proxy) in order to connect to a specific network, but every time I make any changes in the proxy pane, and click OK, the changes are lost when I come back to it. I have been unable to connect to any networks that require a proxy. Would love some help! I'm quite puzzled. Anyone having the same problem?
    Thanks!

  • App Store will not open on MacBook Air

Hello - I am unable to open the Mac App Store.  When I click on the App Store App it briefly apprears in the dock (less than 1/2 second) and then disappears.  I have tried:
    1) Restarting
    2) Closing all apps, and trying again.
    3) Forcing all apps closed, then closing as many things as possible in Activty Monitor
I am farily good with computers but am unable to figure this one out.  I am getting to the point of reinstalling OSX but would like to keep that as a last resort.
Below are the details of my machine.  Any help would be appreciated.
13in MacBook Air (Late 2010) running OSX 10.9

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}' | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting. A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    { sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix\.cron)|org\.(amav|apac|cups|isc|ntp|postf|x)/{print $3}'; echo; sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook; echo; sudo crontab -l; } 2> /dev/null | open -ef
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    { launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'; echo; crontab -l 2> /dev/null; } | open -ef
    Step 4
    ls -A /e*/{cr,la,mach}* {,/}Lib*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts .la* 2> /dev/null | open -ef
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of login items' | open -ef
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.
