Numeric Value for Brightness Controle for color management purposes?

As a retoucher I am supposed to keep accurate color management. I create my ICC Monitor profiles with an X-Rites i1XT meter. The screen calibration includes a brightness adjustment to meet a desired luminosity value (I choose to work on a 120cd/m level). My issue is that apples "brightness slider" wont define a value or percentage which I could associate with my current ICC profile. If I would for instance watch a movie in full brightness I could never get back to my previous brightness settings in order to maintain my desired color accuracy!
- is there a way to read out or dial in a "brightness value" (maybe trough a script?)
- does anyone know about an external tool that could help me (without interfering the ICCs)
THX a lot,
TIM

I know of a way to recover that number from an Apple notebook's built-in display. Don't know if the same is true with an external display, but you can try. The value exists in the I/0 registry.
If you open a Terminal window and input the following:
ioreg -lw0 | grep IODisplayParameters
about 2/3rds through the output you will see a long line with all the display actual values. Near the end of that line you will find a line like:
"brightness"={"max"=1024,"min"=0,"value"=x
where x will be the actual brightness on a scale from 0 to 1024. At least that is how things are working from my Apple notebook.
I don't know of a way to set the value from terminal. But at least you can read it out.
If my command of Unix were better, I could figure out a way to refine the output using a command like sed, so that the output only returned the number you are interested in. Maybe someone can help with that. It would take me too long to figure out. Not a Unix guru.

  • Working Space for Color Management...

    Hello,
    I'm working on a project with a series of still, all of which contain embedded sRGB color profiles (as these images were originally used for a web-based job). This video project will eventually go onto a SD DVD to be displayed on a SD NTSC television. When choosing my working space (for color management), should I use SDTV NTSC (or should I use sRGB and then specify SDTV NTSC in my output setting upon rendering? I'm leaning towards SDTV NTSC as my working space, but since I'm coming at this from a print background in color management, I'm wondering if someone could lend some advice?
    Also, what should I select for these options (under Color Settings in Project Settings)...ie. should I or shouldn't I have them checked...
    - Linearize Working Space
    - Blend Colors Using 1.0 Gamma
    Thanks!
    Kristin.

    > It didn't really touch on "Blend Colors Using 1.0 Gamma" though would I want this checked?
    Generally, yes. It helps avoid problems that can occur with inter-layer blending.
    > And pretty sure, for what I'm doing, I wouldn't want "Linearize Working Space" checked.
    Also correct, unless you intend to work in a 16- or 32-bpc mode.

    What do you mean about Gcd value?
    Do you have some code that you could show us to illustrate what you are trying to achieve? Or are you just
    talking in vague general terms about how you might go about writing some kind of code
    And the more details the better responses you will get. Thanks.

  • Numeric Value for Radio Buttons

    This should be easy for the experts:
    I got a bunch of 10 exclusion groups containing 3 radio buttons each. Every radio button got a numeric value associated, meaning the user is picking a numeric value by selecting a given radio button pretty much like the tests on the magazines in which the people pick options like "single= 10 points, married=5 points, engaged=1 point)
    In the bottom part of the same form I got a table of one one column and 10 raws sumarizing the 10 already mentioned above.
    The aim: to place the value coming from the radio button in the specific cell of the table.... in short, I want a script that allows me to palce the value of the selected radio button somewhere else in the same form, a numeric field for example.
    Thanks,

    Hi try67,
    Thank you so much for your help. Your code has brought me one step closer, I would never have gotten even this far without it!
    Initially, it was giving me and error, so I added a ")" and now it does display "Mastery", but I cannot get it to display the other two ("Acquiring" and "Practicing"), it just displays a blank space but does not give me an error.  I tried to fix it on my own by searching for some help, so I found and started playing around with jsbeautifier.org and JSLint. However, since I really don't know much about coding or syntax I hope these were not harmful. So now the code looks like this:
    // name for the text box field;
    var cTextBox = "Firm-Wide Talent Strategy Knowledge - Totals";
    // get the value of the field with the name in cTextBox;
    var sTextBox = +this.getField(cTextBox).value;
    if (sTextBox >= 1 && sTextBox <= 2) {
        event.value = "Acquiring";
    if (sTextBox >= 3 && sTextBox <= 4) {
        event.value = "Practicing";
    if (sTextBox >= 5 && sTextBox <= 6) {
        event.value = "Mastery";
    } else {
        event.value = "";
    Do you know what I might be missing that prevents "Acquiring" and "Practicing" from displaying?
    Thank you so much again for your help,
    Chris

  • Displays for color management

    Current recommendations for good performing monitors at a reasonable price?

    It would be helpful if you narrow down what you consider "a reasonable price."
    Of course it is essential that you tell us what kind of work you do and whether you have a good understanding of the theory and practice of color management.
    Without any further information, the only recommendations I would have are:
    NEC MultiSync PA241W-BK-SV 24.1" Widescreen LCD Monitor with SpectraViewII Color Calibration
    and
    NEC 24" Widescreen Professional Graphics Monitor with SpectraView II

  • How to show default values for properties managed by UUP

    Is there a way to load default values of properties from an external source while
    associating a user with property sets managed by UUP ?
    We are trying to write a Custom User Profile using UUP so that some of the User
    Profile attributes can be stored using an existing Oracle database schema. But
    the values for some of these properties(Profile property set attributes) has to
    come from another table which already exist. So the idea is that when a new user
    is being associated with the Custom property set using Portal Admin Tool, the
    available values for an individual property has to be pulled from from a database
    table. Like when selecting a user's home city he can select the name of all cities
    already existing in a database table.
    I couldn't find a way to do this using the EntityPropertyManager. Anyone has
    any idea how to do this?
    Thomas.

    Hi Thomas,
    Yes, the UUP framework is flexible enough for you to easily load default
    values of properties from some external source. You can do this if you
    deploy your own UserProfileManager that uses a custom PropertySetManager.
    When UserProfileManager.getProperty() is called, it looks for the property
    for that user and then for the user's implicit and explicit successors
    (implicit = persisted for that property set, explicit = given as an argument
    in the method call)...if it doesn't find the property (gets null) then it
    does this:
    PropertySet set = getPropertySetManager().getPropertySet(
    getPropertySetType(), propertySet );
    if ( set != null )
    PropertyDefinition def =
    set.getPropertyDefinition( propertyName );
    if ( def != null )
    result = def.getDefaultValue();
    Check out the javadoc for the classes I have mentioned and check out the
    ejb-jar.xml depoyment descriptor for the UserProfileManager in usermgmt.jar:
    <!-- property set manager -->
    <ejb-ref>
    <ejb-ref-name>ejb/PropertySetManager</ejb-ref-name>
    <ejb-ref-type>Session</ejb-ref-type>
    <home>com.bea.p13n.property.PropertySetManagerHome</home>
    <remote>com.bea.p13n.property.PropertySetManager</remote>
    </ejb-ref>
    There are two options for deploying a UUP: 1) use the default
    UserProfileManager deployment with your custom EntityPropertyManager
    deployment, or 2) use your custom deployment of the UserProfileManager with
    your custom EPM deployment.
    In almost all cases, option 1) is done. However, in your case, you need to
    modify the behavior of the UserProfileManager so you must redeploy a
    custom-configured version. This means you will have to register a new
    ProfileType for your users with the DD for the UserManager EJB (because your
    special users don't use the default UserProfileManager) like this:
    <ejb-ref>
    <ejb-ref-name>ejb/ProfileType/WLCS_Customer</ejb-ref-name>
    <ejb-ref-type>Session</ejb-ref-type>
    <home>com.bea.commerce.ebusiness.customer.CustomerProfileManagerHome</home>
    <remote>com.bea.commerce.ebusiness.customer.CustomerProfileManager</remote>
    </ejb-ref>
    If you didn't need to retrieve the default values from your own data source,
    here is how you could get the default values using the default deployment of
    the UserProfileManager:
    * use the EBCC to create a property set (a.k.a "user profile") that matches
    your UUP property set name. Create the properties in this pset and the
    default values. When the UserProfileManager.getProperty() call fails to
    find the property value in your UUP (gets null) it will use the default
    PropertySetManager to get metadata about that property from the Portal
    schema (which you just set up using the EBCC) and it will return the default
    value that you set in the EBCC.
    I recommend you study the 2 options for deploying a UUP, especially the
    option for deploying a custom version of the UserProfileManager by checking
    out the sample UUP on dev2dev.bea.com and by looking at the Portal 4.0 docs.
    I don't know if the 7.0 docs have as much detail about this. Also, when you
    sit down to implement your custom PropertySetManager you may have to contact
    support for some of the details. For instance, how to instantiate a
    PropertySet.

  • Best monitors for color management

    Wanting to buy a monitor that will display the RGB COLOR profile

    There are many wide gamut monitors on the market which will natively reproduce most of Adobe RGB (I assume that's what you mean by "RGB").
    But I wouldn't recommend that unless you are fully aware of the implications. Such a monitor can only be used in a fully color managed environment, and it must be calibrated and profiled to perform as intended. Without full color management there's no way it will display correctly and it's just a waste.
    Taken at face value (what is the "best"), your question only has one answer: Either an NEC PA series, or an Eizo CG/CX series. They are expensive, but worth it. If you're on a tight budget, go down in size, not quality. Panel size is the single biggest cost factor and a good 24" is way better than a mediocre 27" or 30" at the same price point.

  • Status Values for Test Management

    Has anyone else encountered odd behaviour when maintaining test status values?
    For example, in the IMG (STWB_SET Transaction) the table that holds the status values has 10 entries, however the drop down that the end user accesses only has 6.
    Another thing I noticed is that when you add / change / delete test status values, a drop down entry TEST_ERROR appears when selecting the status.
    Has anyone else noticed this? Do you have a solution?

    It's all here, it just needs to be put together.
    SP10 IMG path
    1. Go to SAP Solution Manager > Scenario specific settings >Implementation > Optional activities > Document Management > Status for Documents > <b>Define Document Status Schemes</b>
    2. Click New Entries and add a new schema
    3. Highlight the new schemas and click on the Status Values folder
    4. Add the new values
    5. Go to Project Administation > Project Standards tab > Documentation Types Tab > Click Project Template button.
    6. In the last column of each Document Type select the proper status schema that you created.

  • How to get numerical value for every button

    Hi,
    Currently I am using a case structure to determine which graph i want to display. For example, each case( i have 7 cases), there is a frequency,amplitude dial which user can change it. So basically there are 7 of those. Let say the user want to change case 1 and display those. I've plan to place a button PLAY beside the frequency dial so that it will activate the case 1. But the problem is how can i do that as the input for the case structure is numerical (0-6) to select the case. How can i activate case 1 for an example, when i click the button PLAY beside the first dial? Is it possible to change the configuration of the button PLAY, so that when its activated, it will give out numeric 1 and i wire to the case structure input? Thanks guys.

    Maybe you want to use a single radiobutton control with seven items?
    Here's a quick example.

    D
    It would appear that you are typing it in as text, not creating a formula.  On the iPad, you don't type an "=" nor do you type the function name. You press the "=" button which then lets you start a formula. You choose the function by pressing the "functions" button then choosing it from the list. The function shows up in the editting bar with words in colored ovals for the parameters. You click on the various parameters in the formula to edit them. And you use the mathematical operators and click on cells or choose formulas to create mathematical operations.
