Numlock in bootcamp/win xp

Just wondering how to enable numlock in bootcamp/win xp?
Is it possible to assign/create or change combination keys? such as fn+f3 for volume or fn+f1 for brightness instead of crtlshiftf1.
Thanks in advance.

  • MacOS, Bootcamp, Win-Antivirus and (...User symlinks?)

Hi, I'd appreciate some command line help on this issue:
    My setup:
    750GB HDD with MacOS, apps, and Admin account, and Bootcamp partition;
    2 1TB HDDs RAIDed 0 for 2 User accounts;
Bootcamp: Win XP SP3, McAfee Security, MacDrive (enabling access to MacOS partition from within Win, though not to the User RAID).
    The story:
When I let run McAfee from within Bootcamp scanning for viruses, I discovered too late that McAfee was also scanning my MacOS start-up partition due to its accessability via MacDrive. I immediately stopped McAfee's scan and started up in MacOS. So far so good. However, when I entered my User Account (situated at the RAID0) I discovered that something had happened to my settings.
First, the desktop picture and the mouse settings were set to the default and only a few of the usual User folders were there.
Second: Opening the RAID, the User accounts were still there, but inaccessable from within my (altered) account. Obviously, McAfee had done something ugly to the MacOS, perhaps altering the symlinks to the User Accounts (?) or something else. In the advanced options of the User accounts, the path was listed correctly as before.
Hence, from within the advanced options for the two (external) User accounts, I browsed for the User folders and set them again. This re-definition of the path surprisingly showed up with a number after the path:
    /RAID/Userfolder-1
instead of: /RAID/Userfolder as before disaster struck.
OK, I have again access to the Accounts, but I am wondering if there is an easy way to re-establish the situation as before.
Maybe you also have a hunch on what McAfee might have changed in the UNIX-system or the MacOS? Why would there be this number after the UserFolderName?
By the way, DiskUtility did not flag up any disk problems or permission issues immediately after the "disaster".
    Thanks!

... I should add that after I had re-defined the path to the user accounts, the permissions had a problem. So I ran some command lines to correct the User permissions within each account.

  • Will spec'd system run Civil Cad 3D with bootcamped Win 7?

    Hi BD,
Almost all AutoDesk apps, except perhaps Sketchbook or Sketchbook Pro have a healthy CPU, GPU and RAM requirement. Especially the GPU. I don't know why their apps have use such a huge load on the GPU, but they do.

  • Bootcamp/Win 7 install on MBA

Are there third parties, like Geek Squad, that will set up Bootcamp/Win 7?

you really a) read the tutorials, and b) think that is too difficult to do or understand and c) need even that to be dumbed down further?
apple error messages if you get one are useless and misleading is all and the software download can be too darn slow
the problem is you will be confronted with having to learn how to change your own tires eventually.

Parallels 7 makes setting up Windows 8 a breeze and downloads the RP for you. But then upgrading from 7 to 8 is also done through a setup wizard
Paragon CampTuneX $20 is the only one I know of. WinClone 3.x $20 is also worth learning how to use.

  • Easy to install Lion with BootCamp + Win 8 + NTFS partition for data?

Hey, I have a MacBook Pro (2011) currently on OS X 10.6.8, but I bought Lion 10.7 and want to use that.
Here's what I want to do:
    * install Lion (fresh, not upgrade)
    * install BootCamp
    * install Win 8 (DevEd) (for games and some other apps)
    And here are my questions:
    1) What's the best (free) way to save/"ghost" the current OS so I can quickly get back to that in case something happens when I install Lion?
    2) What order do I install BootCamp and Win 8 in? Any fool-proof tutorial for how to do this?
    3) If I do a backup with Time Machine as the last thing I do before installing Lion, I just copy the data back from the TM drive after install, right?
    4) I would like to use Win 8 and some programs there to read and write to the HFS+ OS X partition - is there a free and/or good way to do that?
    5) On PC I can use WinAmp, the great plugin "DeleteCurrentSong" and a shortcut key to delete the currently playing track. Is there a way to do something similar in any program in OS X?
    6) If not, would it be possible to - early in the install process - make a big NTFS partition and put most of my data there so it can be accessed from both OS X (with Paragon) and Windows? And Time Machine wouldn't back it up as long as it's NTFS, right?
Thanks a lot for any answers!

    Answer to question 1:
    a. Get a USB disc the same size or better larger than your internal HD
    b. Download Carbon Copy Cloner (free)
    c. Clone the internal HD to the external disc
    d. Reboot with the 'option' key held down. Choose the external disc to check that the clone was successful and is bootable.
    e. If yes, reboot again, hodling down the 'option' key. Choose the internal HDD.
    f. Dismount/eject the external HD and disconnect it from your computer.
    g. Go to app store and download Lion.
    h. When the download is complete, DO NOT run it. First, copy the file (Applications > Lion Install.app) to another location on your disc (the downloads folder will do). This is because after you run the installer it will delete itself from the Applications folder, and you may very well either want/need to do a re-install later without wanting to wait for hours for the download.
    i. Run Applications > Lion Install.app

  • Bootcamp, Win 8.1 Pro and Downgrading

I have a couple of people in my home that will not respond well to Windows 8, myself included.
I have a copy of 8.1 pro and would like to use the downgrade rights to access Windows 7 for use on the bootcamp side.
How do I do this? I've seen online where you need a win 7 product key to downgrade to win 7 from 8, and at that point, why upgrade just to downgrade again?!?!?! Can I call MS with the 8 product key to get a 7 product key?
Thanks for the input. Appreciate it

    Call Microsoft and ask them.

  • Bootcamp Win 7 No bootable device -- Insert boot disk and press any key.

Hello everybody, I bought a windows 7 to install with bootcamp in my MBP retina, it came buy post, a windows 7 ultimate, OEM, and for my surprise it came with a DELL computer reinstallation CD, well, I search the Internet and some guys were receiving the same CD, and the web sites were saying that it works perfectly. So, I started to install it with boot camp.
I format my USB 16 gig from scandisk for (DOS FAT) in utility's on my mac, and I went to BOOT CAMP  to install the windows. As I have a superdrive and the CD from win 7, I didnt select the option of creating a image of windows 7 (the first option) and I just select the other two. So the bootcamp asked me to connect my USB stick for downloading the windows drivers, and after downloading he opened the partition screen, I choose 30 gig for my windows partition and pressed continue, after that the boot camp asked me if I have a windows installing cd, and I clicked yes, Next window, " If you have an installation CD the boot camp will delete the boot from your USB stick, press continue, and I did. After that my mac reboot, and now I have the message " No bootable device -- Insert boot disk and press any key"
It doesnt boot with the USB stick.
It doesnt boot with my cd
    ALT CMD doesnt work.
    No MAC no Windows? Sheeee
Please help me if you can.
I have done a backup before.

You should take your Boot Camp discussion to the Boot Camp forum, https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp, where the "no bootable device" issue has been asked and answered many times.

  • Macbook Pro: OSX and BootCamp Win 7 won't boot

Hi, I'm having a series of related issues.  I've got a macbook pro 5.2 (17", about 2 years old) with snow leopard installed, bootcamped with win 7.
Background: I was logged into Windows playing a game.  System hard locked so I powered down. When I power back on, I get this message:
    File: \Boot\Bcd
    Status: 0xc000000f
Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.
So, I power down to boot into OSX to see what's up.  This time, I get to the grey load screen and it just sits there and OSX doesn't load. I waited several minutes and nothing happened.  It wasn't locked (the progress wheel was spinning the whole time).  So, I power down, reboot trying safe mode.  It starts booting with the progress bar, but again it never loads.
So, I'm not at this point: I'm able to boot into the OSX installer from the DVD.  In the disk utility, at first my mac partition shows and my bootcamp partition does not, though when I run a verification, the bootcamp partition does eventually show up.  I tried running repair on it, but I get the error that the Mac parition cannot be unmounted (I'm booted from the DVD when this happens).  I haven't run verify on the mac volume only as it estimates 10 hours (trying it now), but I did run verify on the drive and it passed.  I just can't run a repair.
On the Windows side, when I boot from the install disc, it boots into the installer but it can't see an operating system installed when I try to use the repair feature there.  Suggests I get drivers for the hard drive, but I have no idea what drivers I need for that.
I have no other mac to run in target disk mode from.  I have an OSX installation on a firewire drive that I can boot into, but I can't get that to update from Leopard to Snow Leopard.  I have recent important files on both drives that I would really like to retrieve that aren't backed up.  Most topics I see regarding these issues seem to be regarding external storage disks, or for people already looking to do a fresh install.  I won't say that reformatting and reinstalling aren't an option, but if someone knows a way to get those files off first, I'd appreciate that.

*Take an iMac and Windows 7 Blue screen fun*
the final part of the Win 7 install and Mr Blue screen due to the Nividia driver supplied on Win 7 DVD kills iMac GT7300
    1. Install... and Blue screen!
2.Re-boot but from the Win 7 install disk – seems to work if you hold alt on boot up and select the disk to boot from!
3.When you get into the Windows installer, click past the language selection. Then click "Repair your computer".
4.Windows will scan for installations and prompt you with a list. Select your "C" drive and click Next.
5.You should be presented with a windows titled *System Recovery Options*.
At the bottom of this list you should see +Command Prompt+.
    Select the command prompt.
6.When the console opens, you can delete the offending driver using the following command:
    DEL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\NVLDDMKM.SYS
7.Close the command prompt window and click the Restart button.
This time, boot from your hard disk.
You will complete the install with no Blue screen.
Having done this go to the Nivida web site and download the GT 7 series drivers for Windows 7.
    Install, re-boot and ...
+*... install Bootcamp drivers and right off your back to Blue Screen...*+
Repeat 1-7 and install newly downloaded drivers and off you go

  • Bootcamp Win Server 2008 x64 - No network

I have no networking either wired or wireless with Bootcamp and Windows Server 2008 x64.
I've repaired the drivers from the bootcamp partition on the OSX disk - no change, and uninstalled the device drivers for the ethernet controllers and the Broadcom Wireless 802.11n device in Device Manager, rebooted, windows wasn't able to install the drivers.
Does anyone know where I can download the x64 drivers, for the Broadcom Wireless 802.11n
Both the wired and wireless work Ok under OSX with all updates installed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    MacPro 2 x 2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon

I had the same problem but I came up with a solution. Since I was following some instructions on using Win server 2008 as a workstation I saw that it mentioned downloading Everest Ultimate Edition (trial version worked) to find out what the hard ware was that needed a driver. When I did this I saw that the network device was listed as a Intel 82574L. After finding the name of the hardware I went to "computer management" and clicked on "device manager." From there I double clicked on the network device, clicked on the reinstall driver; from there browse for driver software & let me pick from a list. Select network adapters - intel - and then on the Intel 82574L. Once it installed the network came right up. Hope that helps you out & good luck!

Are you using NTFS driver in Mac OS X to WRITE to your MyBook?
If so, switch to Paragon Software's. Demo is fine.
MyBooks are often trouble, though usually under OS X.
In Windows, do chkdsk on it.

  • Usb 3 hub not working on rmbp (2014) bootcamp win 7

The ORICO usb 3 works fine when my rmbp is on Yosemti,  but restart to WIn 7 SP1 via boot camp and the usb hub is dead.   I use a logitech mouse and keyboard via this hub.  If they connect direct into the USB ports, they work fine.   Seems Win 7 sp1 bootcamp has decided it no longer likes the hub being attached.  It did work before on this same set up, but no longer.
    Any ideas?
    many thanks

  • Audition CS6 (Bootcamp Win. 7) Crashing from built in effects / plugins

    Long story short:
I own a PC license for Production Premium CS6
I just bought a new computer (MacBook Pro retina 15")
I have (successfully) set up Win. 7 using Bootcamp on my MBP
I have (successfully) installed and tested my copy of Production Premium CS6everything was working okay (i.e. - previewing clips, changing amplitute, cutting), until I tried to use the built in effects / plugins on some audio in Audition
When I attempt to add an effect (i.e. - Noise Reduction <process>), after 2-3 sec. I get a crash notice, and my only option is to "close program". This is also occuring when other plugins are attemptedno option to see an error log, etc.
My Pro. Prem. suite is literally the only thing installed on the Windows side of my MBP, and I ran Adobe update for the suite after installing. I have scoured the web looking for answers to this issue, but have had no luck yet (this includes the forums here too).
Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if more info is needed about my machine, etc. please let me know (this is my first forum post).
    Best,
    Matthew

The location should be the same - Bootcamp allows a pretty standard Windows install with some hardware-specific drivers added in.
As SteveG mentioned, you should be able to find the Audition log files by doing the following:
Open Windows Explorer and in the Address bar, type:  %APPDATA% and hit Enter.
    Open Adobe > Audition > 5.0 > logs
Send "Audition Log.txt" as a text file to [email protected]
You may also find more helpful information in Windows error logs.  To find this, open Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer  and click on Windows Logs > Application.  Find entries for Audition corresponding with the time of the most recent crash and you can copy/paste the details in the message as well.
It might be worth noting that I have some suspicion that keeping out-of-date or several versions of Microsoft .NET installed may have some impact.  We're still investigating, but two users with similar problems have recently reported that updating or uninstalling old versions of .NET appear to have resolved the issue for them.  If you have any versions of that installed, please let me know.
Can I verify the nature of the crash, though?  Does the crash happen simply when you OPEN an effect, or when you click APPLY?  If it's open, are you able to adjust parameters and hear the preview okay?

  • Full screen games crash at launch on Bootcamp Win XP with Apple Cinema Disp

    Hello,
strange issue to me. Everything goes flawlessly on Win XP on Bootcamp on my 2010 MBP 13", and games launch full screen with no problem. But as soon as I use my external 20" Apple Cinema Display, they crash immediately after launch. I wouldn't know on Windows how to get console logs etcetera.
This is an issue with all games launched at full screen. No issue in applications.
    How to fix this?

    Anyone, please.
This now only happens with Unreal Engine games since I chose "use this screen only" on my Nvidia preferences. I think it has to do with the Win XP drivers for this Nvidia integrated chip (Geforce 320M), which aren't much updated in Win XP. I think I could fix it by updating to Windows 7 and using newer drivers which aren't available in XP. Hope so.

  • Bootcamp: Win 7 installation deleted my default booting: now MBPro turns on in windows

    Hi,
I'm new to Mac but i'm not a newbie ti it and to computer world. I (sob) need to have also windows on my new MBPro 15" early 2011, but I had a problem: 1.Bootcamp formatted for my windows a partition that i imagine was FAT file system, but Win 7 needs a NTFS file system in order to run. When i installed Win on the partition created with Bootcamp it asked me to reformat it in NTFS. I let it do it but installing it Win took the boot start on this partition instead of the Mac one and so now my Mac on power on starts with windows!! Do I have some possibility to run again Mac without reinstalling it?
    2. The second question is: Bootcamp told me that for installing the windows driver for the Mac hardware the second install cd that came with my Mac should go well, so I do not downloaded nor burned the driver cds. But after installing Win 7 I noticed that that cd is only for Mac and win recogniced it as blank writeable cd. How to install that cd without have the possibility to boot again in Mac? (P.S. I have another working online WIN 7 computer, if someone can simply paste on this discussion the link (if compatible with win 7) I can download and burn it with that pc and than install it on the Win partition of the MBPro). Thank you for any help or advice you will give!!

    ATI 6750 1Gb
    Snow Leopard 10.6.6

When you start the MBP you will hear a bong sound, press and hold the option key when the sound starts.
You can then select the OS X icon to boot into OS X.
Go into System Preferences -> Startup Disk and set OS X as your default OS.
Subsequently you can use the same procedure to boot Windows.
There should be an application in Windows Control Panel to make the boot default Windows.
It will not be there until you install the driver disk.
