NVIDIA Optimus and nouveau - KMS not enabled

Hi,
Trying to get Optimus to run with bumblebee, having a GeForce GT 750M and the Haswell Intel HD Graphics 4600.
I've installed bumblebee, bbswitch, primus, nouveau, nouveau-dri, intel driver and mesa.
I have no xorg.conf.
If I run
primusrun glxgears
I get an error
primus: fatal: Bumblebee daemon reported: error: [XORG] (EE) [drm] KMS not enabled
Xorg.8.log also says KMS is not enabled. I can however smoothly switch between ttys, and things seem to be working normally, except I haven't got compositing in GNOME 3.
Any ideas?

I remember having the similar problem with my GT740M (GK208) card half a year ago. I switched to the closed source nvidia driver and the problem gone and I haven't switched back to nouveau since.
My solution then is to unistall nouveau nouveau-dri and install nvidia, reboot, and the problem is gone.
Actually I thought the problem is caused by the strange GK208 which was not supported by nouveau at that time. But your problem seems to prove my thought wrong (GT750M is GK107). So I'm also interested in the right answer in case I switch back to the open source driver in the future.

I'm 99% sure i did, i think it's even mentioned in one of the guides.
Anyway i think this case will have to be closed for further discussion because the reason for this issue-thread
was the fact that my brother (living in another country) couldn't get his graphics to start up and i remotely helped him (he tried starting X, obviously) and I acted as the support.
However he droped ArchLinux (as is) for Manjaro (which worked beautifully with Xface off the bat, so my guess is that i missed something in the setup because running on my Dell ArchLinux runs perfect).l

I did buy it from someone in Jordan. So they might have got it from KSA, or UAE, or it even might be the same rules in Jordan. I don't think the imessage works even, every time someone sends me a message from their ipad it says "Not delivered". Maybe I am wrong?

  • Httpd.conf, php.ini, php5.conf all OK and php still not enabled

I edited httpd.conf to uncomment the line for the php module, I verified that php5 and the right info for the .php and .phps and php is still not enabled on this Mac OS 10.6.6.  What else do I need to have php.

    sudo apachectl graceful
This will restart the apache server.
server.example.com/~username/info.php would be the website you're looking for.
Note the tilde before the username.
If you've uncommented the php5 line in the conf file, then it should work.
Perhaps do a search for "php5" in the conf file, and make sure that you got all of them.  It seems to me that there might be two lines that you need to uncomment.

Thanks for your reply. I followed the wiki (as bumblebee won't work for nouveau), running `xrandr --setprovideroffloadsink nouveau Intel`would cause X to restart. The output of `xrand --listproviders` seems fine:

  • NVIDIA Optimus: how do I unload nouveau PRIME?

I have a Laptop with NVIDIA Optimus and I tried out render offloading using nouveau PRIME.
    Works quite well actually.
    How to reproduce it:
    xf86-video-{intel,nouveau} are both installed
    no specific xorg.conf is present
    #turn on GPU
    sudo tee /proc/acpi/bbswitch <<< ON
    #load nouveau module
    sudo modprobe nouveau
#start X, or start the display manager
    startx
    #sudo systemctl start gdm.service
    then, in a terminal
    xrandr --listproviders
    output:
    Providers: number : 2
Provider 0: id: 0x8a cap: 0xb, Source Output, Sink Output, Sink Offload crtcs: 2 outputs: 2 associated providers: 0 name:Intel
Provider 1: id: 0x66 cap: 0x7, Source Output, Sink Output, Source Offload crtcs: 2 outputs: 5 associated providers: 0 name:nouveau
Now let's use nouveau as offload source
    xrandr --setprovideroffloadsink nouveau Intel
and now I can run apps on the NVIDIA card like this:
    DRI_PRIME=1 glxgears
    Now my question:
The graphics card stays powered on because the nouveau module is loaded, and the nouveau module is in use by xrandr.
Can I somehow still unload nouveau and turn off the GPU or do I have to restart the Xorg server?

The nouveau is shut down once the program using it is terminated, check the sensors, you will see temps indicated during noueveau use.

  • Play WoW and get Nvidia Optimus switch to Nvidia processor

    Laptop: Lenovo T420
Graphic card: Nvidia NVS 4200M + Intel integrated HD graphics card
    OS: Win7 64-bit
I found my laptop is always running on Intel integrated HD graphics card while playing WoW (process: Wow-64.exe). My average frame rate is 20-30. Below are things I tried:
    - In BIOS: choose to use Nvidia Optimus, and let it choose which graphic card to use.
    - Update to latest driver: Nvidia = 8.17.12.9620,
    - Right click on Wow-64.exe, select to run with Nvidia processor
    - Launch with command "Wow-64.exe -d3d11" from Windows Command Prompt
But I am still not seeing Nvidia processor running in the Nvidia Control Panel > Display GPU activity icon in the notification area. Is there anyone know how to get this work?

    Hello Khumash,
Have you updated the BIOS in your T420? If you haven't done so, can you try updating via the ISO method?
Also installation readme file for the GPU driver as follows.
    http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/83de45ww.txt
Can you try the steps provided and see if it helps? I have a T420 with Optimus however I don't play WoW thus I am unable to test it at my level.
If by updating BIOS and Updating the driver did not help, can you try booting into BIOS at set GPU to Discrete only? and see if the FPS for WoW improved?
    Thanks

    Hi all,
I am trying to install Arch Linux for the first time, on a laptop.
I have followed Arch Linux Forums step by step, and now I am trying to set up a graphical environment with Gnome 3.
I then went through both the xorg page and Nouveau page, and installed the nouveau driver.

Hi CarID, thanks for your help.
Indeed I am actually to start x with Intel driver, but still not able to start x with Nouveau, using the GeForce, and I am still getting these logs on booting.
    Here is my xorg.conf
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "Monitor0"
    EndSection
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen0"
    Device "device-intel"
    # Device "device-nouveau"
    Monitor "Monitor0"
    DefaultDepth 16
    SubSection "Display"
    Depth 16
    Modes "1024*768_75.00"
    EndSubSection
    EndSection
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "device-intel"
    Driver "intel"
    BusID "PCI:0:2:0"
    EndSection
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "device-nouveau"
    Driver "nouveau"
    BusId "PCI:1:0:0"
    EndSection
And if I try to start X, I get the following log:

Is it possible that it tries to reach an external screen (on the hdmi output) ? I would simply like to use it on the direct monitor of my laptop, though.
