OAS 4.0.8.1 wrkfs processes aplenty

I have installed OAS 4.0.8.1 on Slackware 7.0, and it starts ok (using Netscape and the node manager listener), serves static pages as well as PL/SQL pages from a remote database, but the wrkfs process uses 100% of the cpu, and every few seconds another wrkfs process is spawned, and it uses as much cpu as it can get, until there are over 50 such processes. I then have to shut it down before it crashes the system. Using Netscape works to shut it down cleanly. How do I stop this in the first place?
null

My experience with wrksf, on Mandrake 7.0 (RH 6.1+) is that wrksf starts at first, then bails after about a second.
I have a couple cartridges installed, C and Perl, and it starts those cartridges up and then fails. I don't get the same error message that you do, but there is an error in the wrb.log:
`OWS-10911: Throwing exception for reason: wrkpGetProperty 2 `
`OWS-04793: Operation oracle_OAS_System_CartridgeServerFactory_create_nwreturns exception IDL:omg.org/CORBA/UNKNOWN:1.0 `
I'm not sure what this is all about, but it does start up my cartridges at first, because I specified a mininum number to start up initially, and a minimum number of instances.
They just don't come back if terminated, since wrksf isn't there.
BTW, this is the same error I encountered when, on NT, I compiled a c cartridge with Metroworks CodeWarrior instead of MS Visual C++ v6.0. So I wonder if this has something to do with compiler incompatibility, if wrksf was compiled with a different compiler from the rest of OAS. While compilers don't usually matter for C, they do for C++, and all binaries and libraries must be compiled with the same compiler/linker to work together.
Just a stab in the dark.

Check if there is no a pid or trace or any file that is created during the start of this kind of process and remove it and try again. As well you may check if there is a java process from the console kill it and start it.

  • Java process didn't stop.

    hello,
i'm runing oas10gR with Forms services. i have 2 java processes consuming 100 % of the cpu time ( nice time ).
when a stop the oas with "opmnctl stopall" the java processes hagings didn't end !
i'm asking why these java processes are spending all the time in "nice time" and where they didn't end ?

Sounds like the processes are waiting for something (check out the logfiles in $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/logs). If you want to shutdown them forcefully you can issue opmnctl shutdown instead of opmnctl stopall.

  • Error while opening presentation services

    Hi,
Currently we have a requirement that OBIEE be installed on a environment where we have OAS as the web application server. Before doing it on the environment, I decided to do the installation on the local system.
As per the process, first I installed the OAS 10g. During the installation process I have selected the option of 'Advanced Install' as I do not need the BPEL, ESB and others. In the Advanced installation, i have selected the installation type as
J2EE server and Web server (476 MB)
Installs and configures Oracle container for J2EE (OC4J), includes HTTP server with SSL support, Oracle Enterprise Manager Application server Control and the Oracle process Manager and Notification Server (OPMN).
Once I am done with the installation, then I installed OBIEE using 'Advanced Install' option and I have provided the path for the OAS.
Now when I try to launch the presentation services, I get the error that 'Page cannot be displayed'.
From the OAS, I tried to launch the console also and I get the same error.
Can anyone please let me know if I am missing anything like port configuration?
    Thanks

  • Error starting HTTP_Server.

I've seen a lot of posts for this issue, but no definitive resolution.
Build: Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 3 (Taroon Update 8)
    OAS: 10.1.3
    Desired Build: Integrated HTTP Server/OC4j
The log entry contains the following:
    06/10/06 09:00:06 Start process
When I try to start up the http server alone I receive:
    Ouch! ap_mm_create(1048576, "/tmp/apache/logs/mm.8864") failed
Error: MM: mm:core: failed to open memory file (No such file or directory): OS: No such file or directory
Researching this doesn't give me much.
Can someone point me in the right direction to resolve this? I tried metalink...they have a patch for solaris, not much else. I've looked the forum over and didn't find much other than unanswered posts for the same issue. On the wire I found something aobut the sysctl settings needing to be changed. Is there documentation somewhere about what kernel parameters need to be set for an OAS install on Redhat ES 3? Have I overlooked some other resources?
    Sincerely,

    1- Kernel parameters

Ok. before you start to look here &there. just stop all your AS process
make sure no process for your as is up & running.
under /Apache/Apache/logs U 'll find a file http.pid just delete this one.

  • BPEL process retired after OAS restart

    Hi,
We are experiencing a strange problem with BPEL process manager. Sometimes when we restart OAS, several BPEL processes are retired. Any idea why?
    Thanks in advance,
    Steven

    Hi Anirudh,
Our version is 10.1.3.3.1 MLR#4 and we are planning to apply the MLR#19. We do use JMS Adapter with AQ.
Regarding what kind of processes are retired, I do not see a pattern. To me, it's more like a random thing. There is nothing being logged in the log file, which is why this is frustrating :(
    Thanks for you help!

mod_plsql connects to the database via the OCI8 driver. The version of OCI8 that comes with Oracle Internet Application Server 1.0 is a special driver that routes SQL requests for "hot tables" (as configured by the administrator) to the middle-tier iCache, and routes SQL requests for other tables through to the back-end database.
So mod_plsql applications do benefit signifantly from the iAS iCache when they are querying data from "hot tables".<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
Thats right, but a fat proccess is realized by the database which executes the stored procedure. A 99% of cpu is consumed in the database and the other 1% is consumed by the mod_plsql.
IMO, iCache is good product in special for EJB, Corba and Servlet that runs in a middle tier, but doesn4t take a lot of improvement for application which runs with mod_plsql design.

  • How to include processing time in the  LogFormat in httpd.conf of OAS

    Hi,
I want to add processing time parameter in the LogFormat of the HTTP requests in Application server logs file.
i tried to edit the httpd.conf file which orginally is as below
    LogFormat "%h %l %u %t \"%r\" \"%{Cache-Control}i\" CC \"%{Cache-Control}o\" %>s %b" common
    to
    LogFormat "%h %l %u %t *%T* \"%r\" \"%{Cache-Control}i\" CC \"%{Cache-Control}o\" %>s %b" common
But doing so, did not add the Processing time in the GET and POST requests.Although same works for Apache HTTP server.
I want to know how do i add the Processing time attribute in the LOGFormat.
By Default the LogFormat is Common, what are the other possibilities fpr LogFormat.
    Please revert.
    Regards
    Ak

    Hi,
    1. To reduce the processing time for JMS -> IDOC scenario, try to get the Average processing time taken by JMS adapter, IE, IDOC adapter for the messages that are processed so far by going thro the Adapter Audit logs, SXMB_MONI race and Time in WE02 in R/3 system. Calculate this for 5 - 10 messages at different time to get the clear idea of which step is consuming more time. Then it will be helpful to focus on tuning that specific step.  If you are using BPM, check the processing time taken by PE.
    2. Check the Inbound and Outbound queues used by this interface, if required try to configure Prioritized Queue with more time allocated for this interface in Integration Engine.
    3. Check the load on the Integration Server when this Interface messages are getting processed, to understand/ isolate the interfaces which are consuming more processing time and system resources.
    4. If this is not in Production try to perform the Mapping/ transformation in graphical mapping itself, it will be helpful to minimise use of XSLT mapping to get better performance.
    5. Check if the Archive and Delete jobs are running successfully in the Integration Server, since this will free up the occupied resources in the system.
    6. If possible post seperate Forum questions for issues in different Interface scenarios, it will be easy to understand the problem for all of us.
    Hope this will be helpful,
    Regards,

Sorry in advance for the long post:
We have a piece of legacy software (Uniface.exe) that contains a good chunk of business rules for an existing system. Uniface client connects to an Oracle 10g database but requires Oracle 9i client libraries. Therefore the default Oracle home for a local machine running Uniface is set to the Oracle 9i client software location.
On the same machine we have OAS 10g (10.1.3.1) running a Java-based middleware product (J2EE). The Java code invokes the Uniface.exe client to run specific business functions. We have in our Java code Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd); where cmd is the Uniface.exe.
It appears that when the OAS Java program executes the Uniface.exe it is using the Oracle 10g client libraries from OAS instead of the Oracle 9i client libraries from the local machine's default Oracle home. When we run Uniface.exe from a Windows command prompt it works fine.
We have noticed that when running Uniface.exe from Java OAS uses its own Windows path and environment variables and does not honor the system path. We wrote a Windows bat script to explicitly set the Oracle home and system path to the 9i location and then run Uniface.exe but this doesn't seem to work.
    Any ideas?

OAS sets the ORA_NLS33 environment variable to the OAS 10g home location (F:\Oracle\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1\ocommon\nls\admin\dat). Setting it to my Oracle 9i client location (C:\Oracle\product\9i\ocommon\nls\ADMIN\DATA) appears to have solved the problem.
