OAS config

Hi all
Sorry if this isn't IAS but here goes !
I did an install of OAS 4.0.8.1 which went OK - the node manager and sample listeners started OK after install.
However, upon restarting my machine, I can't get OAS fully started. I have all the environment variables as laid out in the doco. One slight worry was that I had to put more into LD_LIBRARY_PATH than was listed becuase of complaints about missing libraries. So maybe some of the links got broken (?).
I can start owsctl start -nodemgr then access the config through the web pages.
Anyway, in OAS, I an start the ORB Servers individually but OAS gives me the following
Unable to start a wrb service threads. Exiting ...
oassrv : Starting web service 1
Log Server is accepting requests now...
oassrv : Starting web service 2
OWS-8820 : Unable to start oassrv process '/home/oracle/oas4081/ows/4.0/bin/oassrv'
OWS-8820 doesn't tell me much.
In logger.err, I am told that the file wrb.log can't be opened for writing but as oracle, I am able to write to the file.
Any ideas ?!
Thanks
Chris Faulkner

I sorted this one out. The log page refers to
%ORAWEB_ADMIN%/website40
but I hadn't set ORAWEB_ADMIN. Since it isn't mentioned in Appendix C, for the environment variables, I blame the doco !

  • OAS and proxy configs in IE5

    I have OAS on an NT4 box connecting into my Solaris cluster w/ 8i. I can hit my webpage local on the NT box but when I go to other boxes I can't see the page unless I take the proxy config out of the IE5 browser. Then I can't see the internet with those machines. Have tried to leave the proxy w/ the bypass button checked and putting the address in my host files no go. Is there a setting that I can change in OAS that will effect this..I know I can config my IE5 browser but I have alot to rollout to so that may be hard to do...It is only on an intranet but it resolves to the fully qualified net name ie:http://iam.here.com/ but will not resolve to http://iam/...Is this possibly a DNS issue or a OAS config issue... we are using a 8080 port setting on all outgoing www and ftp traffic but this should not effect internal traffic.
    Thanks,
    Eric

    if I have IIS for BI Pres Svcs and the BI Server is installed on OASNo -- you have the Presentation Services plugin installed on IIS OR OAS -- and that's all from an OBIEE point of view.
    BI Server is a standalone binary (nqsserver) which runs outside of any application server.
    I can point BIP to the OAS on BI Server?You would install BIP on OAS. However - I don't know how the security integration would work, or if it would. Sorry.
    Maybe someone else here will be able to help, or you could try the BI Publisher forum?

  • OAS 10gR2 and e-Biz app tier on same server

    I seem to have some sort of contention on my application server and I was wondering if anybody might have a suggestion on how to verify my setup or troubleshoot.
    I have a Red Hat ES 4 32-bit server that is running an 11.5.10.2 e-Biz application tier. This install was done by our e-Biz dba who has since left the company.
    I have since installed OAS 10gR2 for another application with the intent that we would share this server.
    This has been done successfully on our Test server with no issues but the app tier is not being shutdown every night like it is in Production.
    However I have had a couple of situations where after my e-Biz application was restarted over night it was found to not be working in the morning with this error:
    'JSP error: Request URI:/OA_HTML/AppsLocalLogin.jsp'
    I tired to stop/start the e-Biz app tier but no go. The fix was to stop my oracle OAS server and stop/start the 11i e-Biz applicaztion tier.
    CLARIFICATION:
    The port pool assigned on this server is 0 I guess (as it uses 8000) and that url always works (servername:8000), it is the E-Business Home Page that fails and generates that JSP error.
    I don't think it is HW related but more of a configuration issue. I know I can check my ports assigned in OAS via $OH/install/portlist but I'm not sure how to check the 'port pool' assigned by e-Biz.
    Just wondering what I should verify or double-check configuration wise. The e-Biz app stops/starts every night for backups and has worked in conjunction with the OAS for the past week until today. I likely do not need to shutdown the app tier every night for backups but that would just mask the underlying issue.
    We use a different userid for the financials configuration versus the OAS config and each env uses it's own oraInventory and directory structure etc.
    I was thinking of using netstat to see what ports are in use before and after restarts and look into the 'net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range = 1024 65000' value set in the /etc/sysctl.conf file.
    Any other suggestions?

    Added CLARIFICATION section.

    My understanding with Financials is when you setup the app tier you pick a port pool (0 corresponds to port pool starting with 8000 etc. and port pool 4 would be 8004 etc.).
    So in my case when I launch http://servername:8001 I get the Oracle Rapid Install Portal. So maybe that is port pool 1in my case (I'll research that).
    If I pick 'Apps Logon Links' and then E-Business Home Page it takes me to http://servername:8001/OA_HTML/AppsLocalLogin.jsp which normally works.
    It only fails sometimes and that seems to be in relation to my OAS install as it was added recently and shutting it down temporarily fixed the problem.
    They are both running successfully again now.

  • EssBeginDataload, EssEndDataload, EssSendString-How these APIs are working?

    Hi,
    I want to know about internal working pattern of EssBeginDataload, EssEndDataload, EssSendString APIs with respect to loading data on to Essbase Server database.
    I have an application which loads data from flat file to Essbase serer's database in which I am using these API to load data. Presently I am creating options file on client side and copying it on server manually. I want to change this flow. I do not want to use option file now and want to work with these Essbase APIs only. In such a case how EssBeginDataload will upload data from a flat file to Essbase server ? Will it create a temp file on server, and after upload, will EssEndDataload delete that temp file ? What will be role of EssSendString in this case ?
    Thanks a lot in advance,
    Prakash

    You'd probably still consider this a "global" change, but must application servers have a vendor-specific configuration file that allows you to tell it what character encoding to assume the request parameters are encoded as. You might want to check your documentation or example OAS config files for "charset" or something similar. For example, Weblogic has an "input-charset" setting.
    This will affect the decoding of all incoming requests. However, since ASCII is a subset of UTF-8, you might not find that this is as big a problem as it seems. And you might be able to specify some kind of servlet path to which to limit the character set decoding.

    Hello,
    During Post Installation of P2G (Oracle Portal-to-Go Installation Guide,Task 7), I need to configure the 'Web Parameters' with 3 different MIME types, but I am not able to. "Error encountered while executing processor Oracle.OAS.Services.ServerApp.Display. "

    Try this config. Write if it helps or not.

  • How 2 config OID 10.1.2.02 OAS install? Cannot get past HOST / Port screen?

    My problem is I cannot figure out HOW to install / configure OID, so that I get past the host / port screen ... there is nothing in my Programs links that indicates anything. The "DIPadmin" won't let me log in ... I am really stuck and really annoyed. Don't even know if I need OID, but can't seem to install OAS10g w/o it.
    The installation guide does NOT EVEN HAVE "Internet Directory" IN THE INDEX of a 380 page document ... it devotes a WHOLE CHAPTER to how to set up users ... BUT IT SEEMS TO BE A BIG SECRET as to what the host name and port number should be.
    Can ANYONE Clarify this for me??
    I am trying to install 10.1.2.0.2 (I do not think I want the BEA weblogic server, at least, not yet). What I want is a server for Forms/Reports 10g, maybe BI, maybe portal ... don't know if I really need a repository. ... and also want to use ApEx via this Apache webserver config, if at all possible (can I put a DBLINK in the metadata repository, to link to the real db? do I want to?)
    I will be buy-you-a-beer-at-ODTUG-grateful, if someone could clue me in as to what I am missing.
    Suzanne

    I can see the enormous torment you got in your attempts to install OAS and because of your years of this torture, let me share you some notes here.
    Let me try what could be an easy way to have an OAS installation with version 10.1.2.0.2. This will be good for a portal installation. minor changes can lead you to install BI or webcache types.
    there is a whole bunch of assumptions and details that are important but they may again give problems for a new person in installing the OAS. so I am skipping them all. this installation will be a simple single system install with both infra and midtier on the same system. you can run the second part of the installation (midtier on another system too which should be connected in the network). but again, first have the simplest piece, then look for sophistication.
    i can see that you are working on Windows system.
    edit etc/hosts file
    please beware; this assumes that you are using a clean system. that means, no other applications are critically relying on your etc/hosts file. and editing this file will not affect their functioning. also, i am assuming that this machine that you have will not be exposed behind your company's firewalls. so even by naming it www.myfirstoas.com, you won't actually be going to this URL on internet.
    edit your etc/hosts file as follows, then you should be all set:
    xx.x.x.xxx www.myfirstoas.com
    give the ip address of your machine in this case;
    Now install the Infrastructure first:
    These will be the answers of the first few questions asked;
    Infra Home: Infra1012
    Location: D:\ORACLE\Infra1012
    Confirmed that I have administrator privileges on the machine;
    -- orcldefaultsubscriber=dc=myfirstoas,dc=com
    automatic port assignments
    go with the suggested namespace = dc=myfirstoas,dc=com
    DB Name: infra.myfirstoas.com
    SID : infra
    using same password for:
    SYS, SYSTEM, SYSMAN, DBSNMP : myfirstoas01
    instance name : Infra1012
    ias_admin pwd : myoasadmin01
    click install
    -- that should be all you need to install the Infrastructure 10.1.2.0.2.
    now i would advise that you keep writing all installation info in your notes and save it. Also copy and paste the message of successful completion in it, and save it.
    now reboot your system.
    now install Middletier;
    after reboot, rerun the OUI installer:
    Midtier Home: Midtier1012
    Location: D:\ORACLE\Midtier1012
    Confirm that you have administrator privileges on the machine;
    -- orcldefaultsubscriber=dc=myfirstoas,dc=com
    -- configured with OID on
    host : www.myfirstoas.com
    port : 389
    username: orcladmin
    pwd : myoasadmin01 (note that this is the pwd for your ias_admin account for infra)
    DB connect string: www.myfirstoas.com:1521:infra.myfirstoas.com:infra.myfirstoas.com
    instance name: Midtier1012
    ias_admin pwd: oasAdmin02 (i kept the two ias_admin pwds different to highlight that the infra and midtier instances are different)
    click install
    -- that should be enough to install midtier.
    again, always keep all installation info in your notes and save it. Also copy and paste the message of successful completion in it, and save it.
    also, always reboot your system after any installation to avoid weird transient problems.
    it should all be done in about 3 hours or so.
    hope that helps!

  • No effect for registration the Partner Application SSO for OAS 10.1.2.0.2

    Dear OAS experts, could you please help me with the problem, it worried me for weeks:
    I have 2 OAS 10.1.2.0.2 on a different physical servers -
    1) type Identity Management, host - OIDserver.mysite.ru, ORACLE_HOME = /d01/oracle/prd/imapp,
    2) type J2EE and Web Cache, host - PerlApp.mysite.ru, ORACLE_HOME = /d01/oracle/prd/app_server_101202
    they both are in the farm INFRA.mysite.RU, Repository Type - Database
    There is a Perl application on a 2-nd server, it should be working thru SSO thru any free port (https). I defined 4445 for it. It's supposed that reference https://PerlApp.mysite.ru:4445 will be redirected to SSO. (On a 4445 for ssl it is faking certificate Oracle for testing purposes, but it doesnt bother me cause I need just to check if it redirects to SSO server, and next step I make certificate real).
    What I did: I registered partner app on 1 server as per doc:
    $ORACLE_HOME/sso/bin/ssoreg.sh -oracle_home_path /d01/oracle/prd/imapp -site_name PerlApp.mysite.ru:4445 -config_mod_osso TRUE -mod_osso_url https://PerlApp.mysite.ru:4445 -remote_midtier -config_file /d01/oracle/prd/imapp/Apache/Apache/conf/osso/osso4445.conf
    Then I transfer appeared file osso4445.conf from 1 to 2 server thru FTP in /d01/oracle/prd/app_server_101202/Apache/Apache/conf/osso/
    I changed /d01/oracle/prd/app_server_101202/Apache/Apache/conf/mod_osso.conf on 2 server a bit, so that it referenced new config file osso4445.conf
    It looks like:
    LoadModule osso_module libexec/mod_osso.so
    <IfModule mod_osso.c>
    OssoIpCheck off
    OssoIdleTimeout off
    OssoConfigFile /d01/oracle/prd/app_server_101202/Apache/Apache/conf/osso/osso4445.conf
    # Insert Protected Resources: (see Notes below for how to protect resources)
    # Notes
    # 1. Here's what you need to add to protect a resource,
    # e.g. <ApacheServerRoot>/htdocs/private:
    # <Location /private>
    # require valid-user
    # AuthType Basic
    # </Location>
    </IfModule>
    At the end I restarted HTTP-server thru OEM console and checked:
    when I go to https://PerlApp.mysite.ru:4445 there is no any SSO redirect, it is just a certified page for App Server. What have I done wriong?

    Oracle AS 10.1.2 doesn't support J2EE 1.4 in general. You might be lucky with your tests on the other 10.1.2.x versions. For J2EE 1.4 applications you should consider AS 10.1.3.x.

  • Registering Partner Application in OAS 10.1.3.1

    Machine A: ple-wlau5
    OID and Oracle SSO [installed through infrastructure - 10.1.2.0.1]. such as D:\Oracle\Product\OID101201
    Machine B : wlau-lap
    OAS [installed through 10.1.3.1] such as C:\Oracle\product\10.1.3.1\OAS10131
    and Oracle Portal [installed 10.1.2.0.1]. such as C:\Oracle\product\Portal
    I have an application such as Test and running inside OAS 10.1.3.1.
    I have a URL link[to my Test Application] in the Oracle Portal. However, I am not able to get or retrieve the cookie from the header such as %Request.GetHeader("Osso-User-Dn");. No value there. So this means I must have config and setup incorrectly.
    Since my oracle portal is on 10.1.2.1 and my OAS is in 10.1.3.1, I think I need to register them from command line such as ssoreg.bat in my OAS 10.1.3.1. This bat file reside in SSO directory. I am not able to locate ssoreg.bat in my OAS 10.1.3.1 in order for me to registered my mod_osso into single signon server..
    I need to know how to integrate my application that run in OAS 10.1.3.1 with my Oracle SSO in 10.1.2.0.1

    There is some confusion about AS Control users in 10.1.3.x. Important is that you have the oc4jadmin user as the owner of all instances (AS instances in a cluster, and OC4J instances within an AS instance), all with the same password. New OC4J instances should only be created by oc4jadmin.
    You can create sub-ordinate users, but you should not give them the role that is intended for oc4jadmin. Sub-ordinate users should be created only with restricted rights, e.g. for deploying applications.
    I have used this feature in 10.1.3.2 and tested it on 10.1.3.3 on Windows, and it works. Tomorrow I will be in the opportunity to test it on RH4 update 4.

  • [ OAS 10.1.2.0.2 ] Convert J2EE 1.4 webapp to J2EE 1.3

    Hi,
    I have a project nicely running under tomcat 5.x and OC4J standalone 10.1.3 ...
    Both rely on J2EE 1.4 accroding to what i understood ...
    But production environnement is OAS 10.1.2.0.2 ... relying on J2EE 1.3 :(
    Deploying the war don't work of course.
    So i've made lots of search to find a way ... i have made a few steps forward but i think i need help now :s ...
    Correct me if i'm wrong, to deploy J2EE 1.3 web app :
    - java classes can be compiled with jdk 1.4.2_x but not 5.0,
    - servlet api 2.3 and jsp 1.2 are needed,
    - jstl can't be higher than 1.0.x.
    So i refactored my code to make it compile with jdk 1.4.2_13.
    Regarding servlet api and jsp, i suppose webapp is using the jars provided with OC4J.
    Do i need to do anything else ?
    I also made little customization of my web.xml :

    Hi,
    Some good news, JAAS was easily configured using web console.
    I can navigate through my first forms.
    I still got some errors, i think it is related to the way jsp and taglibs are mixed.
    It may be different from jsp 2.0 ... i've read some docs about EL expressions ...
    I'll deepen this :)

    Any help is appreciated. Can someone please provide me the steps to configure OC4J with Tibco incase I am doing something wrong I know there is a document out there http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/java/oc4j/1013/how_to/how-to-connect-to-tibco/doc/how-to-connect-to-tibco.html but somehow I tried following exactly what is listed in the document but it doesn't seems to work for me. Specially the following
    deploying the resource adapter module (e.g., using admin.jar's "-deployconnector" command),
    placing the <connector> element in the %ORACLE_HOME%/j2ee/home/config/oc4j-connectors.xml.xml file, and
    pointing to the %ORACLE_HOME%/j2ee/home/config/oc4j-connectors.xml.xml file by placing a <connectors> element in the %ORACLE_HOME%/j2ee/home/config/application.xml file
    Where do I make the changes in the sample for my needs if I have the following on Tibco side:
    Initial context factory:
    com.test.TestTibcoInitialContext
    Provider url
    ldap://someserver:389/ou=msg,dc=corp,dc=com
    Destination(Queue):
    testClientDestUD=D.TEST
    Connection Factory
    testClientUD=S.VV
    Thanks for any help as I am bit confused going thru the doc.

    Hi Alastair,
    Thank you so much for this really very very helpful document but still I am facing some issues:
    1.     The pdf file is specific to Linux environment while I have windows environment for:
    Oracle Application Server 10.1.3.x
    OBIEE Server 10.1.3.4
    2.     We are using MS Active Directory for the domain login authentication process. I have configured the OBIEE with that Active directory to allow users to use their domain credentials to login to OBIEE. I need to provide the SSO in this environment. But the document provides very good and elaborated information about SSO using OID. Is there any way we can do SSO using MS AD or we have to import the users in OID?
    3.     We are using a db table for the authorization process for users after authentication is passed in which we are storing the USER NAME and GROUP information. The Authorization block of rpd select the corresponding GROUP from this table using SQL query and authorizes the users for their access scope. I was trying to execute the function AD_Authorization using the sql supplied after creating it in db but it is showing the below error: (Oracle11gR2 DB Server)
    SELECT getldapgroups('domainname\username') FROM dual;
    ORA-31202: DBMS_LDAP: LDAP client/server error: Invalid DN syntax. 0000208F: LdapErr: DSID-0C090654, comment: Error processing name, data 0, vece
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_SYS_ERROR", line 86
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_LDAP", line 1487
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_LDAP", line 234
    ORA-06512: at "SCHEMA.GETLDAPGROUPS", line 45
    4.     Can we install OIM on Windows machine having the Oracle DB server installed already on it?
    Your valuable response will be much awaited.
    Thanks,

  • OAS/Oracle 8.0.5(EE) on Redhat 6.0

    Has anyone out there been able to get this working?
    If so how?
    I have tried different configurations and none of them have
    worked. Oracle is running fine, but the OAS is not.
    The OAS will start and connect to oracle to add the necessary
    packages, but when I make a call to the application it starts
    the it but does never returns any data. Then after a while the
    listener dies.
    I and others have added the patches and recompiled the kernel as
    noted in other listings. (ps and process limits)
    I am a developer using the OAS for Solaris, so I have a clue on
    how to implement this product. I think Oracle is having a
    problem getting its products running on Linux.
    null

    Actually Oracle 8 EE runs fine on Linux as far as I've seen.
    But, its the OAS v4.0 that we're having problems with here. We
    extensively use the OAS to dynamically render web pages using
    the PL/SQL cartridge, which I haven't been able to get to work
    yet. I've been up and down the documentation, and I use the OAS
    at work on a Solaris platform. It would be nice to setup cheap
    Linux servers running oracle 8 and the OAS 4 for
    development/testing machines, but without the PL/SQL cartridge
    working, we could not use it for testing our applications.
    When I try to connect to an application using the PL/SQL
    cartride on the OAS, my browser just sits there forever waiting
    for data to come back, but nothing ever happens. If I look at
    the active sessions in oracle, there is a session there for the
    user I have setup for the OAS, so it seems to be connecting to
    oracle. If I setup the PL/SQL cartridge to force the user to
    enter in a login name and password, I never get prompted for
    that authentication information and no connection is ever made
    to the database. I hope that this is a known problem at Oracle,
    as I saw that they said they will be releasing a patch for the
    OAS for linux. However, I can't believe that the OAS could have
    been released "broken" and is being sold. Its not just a little
    bug, its that the PL/SQL cartridge flat out doesn't work. I have
    yet to determine, and would like to know, if this problem is
    with the OAS itself, or some weird problem of the OAS running
    under the RedHat version 6.0 system. I have even tried setting
    the owner of the wrks file to root and setuid'ing it to make
    sure there is no permissions problems.
    If anyone has been able to get the PL/SQL cartridge working, can
    you please tell me if you did anything outside of the normal
    installation process and fixes mentioned on technet to get it to
    work? And also what your system config is.
    Thanks for any help.

    We had the same problem with the PL/SQL cartridge (OWS-04764 ...). We solved our problem with a new kernel. Its important that you have a kernel with symmetric multi-processing support (SMP) enabled, independent if you have a one or two processor machine.
    I hope it will help you.

  • Configuring php5 with enable XML on OAS 10.1.3.x

    My requirement is to enable XML on OAS 10.1.3.5.
    I am not sure how to configure it, so I stated using separate PHP5.2 to configure with XML enable on the server. After installation, when I am starting the opmn services I am getting below error. I think the error with platform. Which means current OS version is 64bit and php5.2 stage is 32bit version I guess.
    OAS_HOME=/u20/app/MSRV1P/apmsrv1p/oracle/product/OAS
    URL : http://nacisdell277.us.oracle.com:10330/phpinfo.php
    I used below command to configure :
    ./configure prefix=$ORACLE_HOME/php with-config-file-path=$ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf --with-apxs=$ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/bin/apxs

    I checked in the Metalink for “configuring php5 with enable XML on OAS 10.1.3.x” but I couldn’t find anything.
    Please advise me on this.
    Thanks

    Hello;
    You can try installing glibc-devel to fix this.
    However on my version :
    Application Server Control Release 10.1.2.3.0 - PHP 5 does not seem to work. The conflict on mine is that PHP 4 came wrapped in the Oracle install and they don't play well together.
    Make sure your httpd.conf does not have this in it :
    LoadModule php4_module libexec/libphp4.soI'm NOT advising you to remove it if its there, I'm merely pointing to a possible conflict.

    Glad you don't have the same version as me. Hard to find anything on this, found these ( Not exact matches )

    Also you need the 32bit Instant Client to be able run PHP. See http://blogs.oracle.com/opal/entry/using_php_oci8_with_32-bit_php
