OAS + oracle 8i
After successfully installing oracle 8i (connecting to database
works etc.) on suse 6.2 I installed OAS 4.0.7.1. The OAS seams to
work fine, but when I try to connect to the database with sqlplus
I get the message 'Segmentation Fault'.
When I try svrmgrl, i get the message 'ora 12537 TNS connection
closed'
has this something to do with overwritten libraries due to the
oas installation?

Please share with me your PERL solution.
Thanks.

OAS/Oracle 8.0.5(EE) on Redhat 6.0
Has anyone out there been able to get this working?
If so how?
I have tried different configurations and none of them have
worked. Oracle is running fine, but the OAS is not.
The OAS will start and connect to oracle to add the necessary
packages, but when I make a call to the application it starts
the it but does never returns any data. Then after a while the
listener dies.
I and others have added the patches and recompiled the kernel as
noted in other listings. (ps and process limits)
I am a developer using the OAS for Solaris, so I have a clue on
how to implement this product. I think Oracle is having a
problem getting its products running on Linux.
nullActually Oracle 8 EE runs fine on Linux as far as I've seen.
But, its the OAS v4.0 that we're having problems with here. We
extensively use the OAS to dynamically render web pages using
the PL/SQL cartridge, which I haven't been able to get to work
yet. I've been up and down the documentation, and I use the OAS
at work on a Solaris platform. It would be nice to setup cheap
Linux servers running oracle 8 and the OAS 4 for
development/testing machines, but without the PL/SQL cartridge
working, we could not use it for testing our applications.
When I try to connect to an application using the PL/SQL
cartride on the OAS, my browser just sits there forever waiting
for data to come back, but nothing ever happens. If I look at
the active sessions in oracle, there is a session there for the
user I have setup for the OAS, so it seems to be connecting to
oracle. If I setup the PL/SQL cartridge to force the user to
enter in a login name and password, I never get prompted for
that authentication information and no connection is ever made
to the database. I hope that this is a known problem at Oracle,
as I saw that they said they will be releasing a patch for the
OAS for linux. However, I can't believe that the OAS could have
been released "broken" and is being sold. Its not just a little
bug, its that the PL/SQL cartridge flat out doesn't work. I have
yet to determine, and would like to know, if this problem is
with the OAS itself, or some weird problem of the OAS running
under the RedHat version 6.0 system. I have even tried setting
the owner of the wrks file to root and setuid'ing it to make
sure there is no permissions problems.
If anyone has been able to get the PL/SQL cartridge working, can
you please tell me if you did anything outside of the normal
installation process and fixes mentioned on technet to get it to
work? And also what your system config is.
Thanks for any help.

JDeveloper/OAS/Oracle - Basic Question
Hi,
I have a very basic question. I want to write a simple application using JDeveloper 3.0, OAS 4.0.8.0 and Oracle 8i as the database. The functionality of the application will be to simply display all the rows from a particular Oracle table on a front-end screen.
Can anyone suggest which would be the best architecture to adopt. Should I use EJBs, or applets or .
There are no examples (samples) provided with the documentation that illustrate simple applications like the one I am trying to build.
It will be great is someone could illustrate (step-by-step) what I should use to paint my front-end screen, what I should use to write my SQL (to retrieve rows from the Oracle table) and how I should deploy all of this on OAS.
Thanks in advance.
nullI guess my question was not framed correctly. I am new to JDeveloper and was trying to learn how to develop applications using the tool. I am also new to Internet programming in general so please bear with me. Coming from a old Client/Server school, I thought I would start learning JDeveloper by creating a "Client" using the many features of JDeveloper and then call a "Server" to do the database access. Now my question was the process to go about doing this. You have asked me whether I want to create an application or an applet. Well, the answer is that I frankly dont know. I want to be able to design (paint) a HTML page on which I want to be able to display rows from a Oracle table. Once I have managed to do this simple application I will start putting more complex functionality into that application to learn advanced features. Hope that helps.

Cannot find the OAS Oracle Process Manager Service
Hi guys!
Somehow when I installed the OAS, I couldnt find the Process MAnager Service. I always have to restart it manually. And when I log out it stops...what should I do?
Appreciate anyone's help..
ThanksDo not have the service interact with the desktop or run as a user. Ensure to start the service from the services.msc window.

Problems in certain issues in form deployment on the OAS (Oracle Application Server)
1. I am having problems in displaying the icons on the push buttons, like LOV & those in the toolbar. Can you please tell what is the exact procedure for doing this?
2. How to define the Mapping of keys of Client/Server on the OAS?
nullHi,
You have to keep GIF files, on the Server in one specified Directory, which is pointed by FORMS_ICON60 registry key (check this exact key in the RELNOTES.TXT)
Hope this is solve ur problem.

Installation in VMware Oracle Identity Manager (9.1.0.0)
Hello everyone,
I'm quite unfamiliar with the Oracle products but I try to install the Identity Suite by following the available documation. Unfortunately there are some special points they missed but I already find them out in this forum. But now I'm despairing at one step in the OIM installation.
When I have to provide the OC4J connection settings I got everytime the error message that the OAS hasn't found in the specified path. For my understanding this path and the path to the jdk is provided in the step before and I could pass the step, so the path I provided must be wright.
Have anyone some hints how I can check the existing installation?
Here some further information from my installation:
OS: Windows 2003 SP2
OAS: Oracle Identity Management Infrastructure and Oracle Identity Federation (windows_x86_oim_oif_101401)
OC4J: self created, may be incomplete
If further informations are important to narrow down the problem please ask for.
Thanks in advance :)
Edited by: user10182133 on 26.08.2008 01:49You need OAS 10.1.3.3 for OIM 9.1. Download SOA suite from http://download.oracle.com/otn/linux/ias/101310/soa_linux_x86_101310_disk1.cpio. Install it and apply the metalink note Note:553266.1 to upgrade to 10.1.3.3. Then create your own oc4j instance following OIM 9.1 installation manuals

Thanks in advance..Depends on where you want it deployed, if it's a large application and you want the users to access over the internet, you need to use OAS (Oracle Application Server) and configure the server and provide the URL to the users.
If it's only for testing and couple of users, you can TRY to run it just with OC4J and the URL to your forms.
In any case users should Install JInitiator for the first time they run the application only.

We're running OAS 10.1.3.0.0 on IBM AIX 5.3 and due to some crashing issues OSS recommended to upgrade to PatchSet 3 (so 10.1.3.3.0).
We originally were running OAS with IBM's SR4 of the IBM JDK.
Now after the upgrade to Patchset 3 (on a test machine), the ORACLE_HOME/jdk version seems to be the first release of the v5 jdk from 2005. It's SR nothing ... J2RE 1.5.0 IBM AIX build jclap32dev-20051102 java
It's 2 years old for heavans sake !!!! Not even DST patched.
What am I missing? OAS 10.1.3.3.0 is pretty much THEE most latest version of OAS Oracle has, yet it comes with a 2 year old JDK. Why? This doesn't sound right, why would a company of Oracle stature do this?
Are others experiencing this also? Why doesn't Oracle bundle a more updated JDK with OAS?It's not a symlink.
Oracle has a script (jdkfix.sh) and a procedure for upgrading the jdk inside OH/jdk. We went thru this on all our OAS 10.1.2.0.2 enviro's and 10.1.3.0.0.
One metalink note that talks about this is Doc. 272808.1.
Basically, you install the AIX jdk in the IBM /usr directory and then run jdkfix.sh which essentially copies the jdk over to ORACLE_HOME/jdk.
There don't seem to be any Oracle supplied patches for any OAS that upgrades the jdk. Which is a bit wonky.
Here's the ls -l from our prod OAS 10.1.3.0.0 install:

Is there Any utility there in 9iAS instead of OWSCTL in OAS?
Dear Dear All
In OAS(Oracle Application Server) A command line utility, owsctl, is provided to start, stop, reload, and show status of Oracle Web Listener, Web Request Broker and Cartridge processes. You can also use owsctl to print out the version of a cartridge name. Can Anybody tell is there any utility provided in Oracle 9iAS exactly similer to owsctl does.

SreeSree,
Not quite exactly the same, but have a look at: dcmctl and emctl.

How to control accessing Oracle Application Server URLs
Hey all;
I wish you are all doing okay.
I am facing a problem with OAS Oracle Application Server; Since we switched form using forms 6i to OAS 10g running on the web browser of course using a URL for each application
The question is if I give a user a single URL for the application he is using and he just change his application name for example hr by payroll he will be able to open the payroll and run reports or even editing values!
How to restrict accessing the apps to only the authorized users on Oracle Application Server 10g?!
Thank you all in advanceHi Mohamed,
Please follow the below note:Preventing Access to URI's Via IP Address Using Mod_Rewrite (Doc ID 1306292.1)

Using Oracle Service Registry without SOA Suite
I am trying to use the Oracle Service Registry without having SOA Suite as all I want is to simply publish a web service for an experiment.
I have :
JDeveloper 10.1.3.3
Oracle Database 10g
Getting problem in Installing Service Registry. Do I need to run a script to make UDDI schema, or table space, or database in advance?
Installation is not getting the directory for OAS Home. Now where is the OAS HOMe?
.../JDeveloper/jdev/ ?
.../Oracle10g/
.../jdeveloper\jdev\system\oracle.j2ee.10.1.3.41.57\embedded-oc4j ?
Its not accepting any of them. Where does OAS resides? If all you have is Jdeveloper and database you do not have an OAS Oracle home, you will need to install OAS separately. It is also possible that you can just install standalone oc4j rather than a full blown OAS to install SR into, check the install guide
If I remember correctly the database schema is created as part of the SR install. -
How to buffer data in Oracle 9i Application Server?
We need to know, when using OAS(Oracle Application Server), if there is a way to buffer data. If, not, is there an alternative? OAS is being used in the generation of reports. For large reports the PC will sit, with essentially a blank screen, until all of the data is retrieved and formatted. Only then is the report displayed. This can take minutes (or longer). What we are looking for is a way to retrieve some of the data and display it, while the rest of the data is being retrieved in the background.
The following error comes when i try to access it
"Invalid protocol verification, illegal ORMI request or request performed with an
incompatible version of this protocol"You are using the rmi port of oc4j in your URL. Instead, your should use the http port. Yes, of course, the http port.
The initial ports are defined at ORACLE_HOME/install/portlist.ini ... if you reconfigure (say, by changing the ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf/*.conf or the ORACLE_HOME/Apache/conf/* files), the portlist.ini will not be updated. Well, you can always use "opmnctl status -l" to find the http port. -
Is Forms6i supported on OAS v4.0.8.2 and 9iAS?
Is Forms9i supported on OAS v4.0.8.2?
--OAS (Oracle Application Server v4.0.8.2)
--9iAS (9i Application Server)
Thanks.Shay,
Thanks for the answer. But a quick question. We are planning to convert our Forms5.0 application to web forms. But as Oracle suggested we are planning to convert them to forms 6i first. If I want to use 9iAS release 2 I would need to convert our forms to forms 6i and then 9i forms and deploy it on 9iAS release2,right?.
I was thinking it would be a better idea for us to move to 9iAS release 2 instead of release 1. But we would have to first convert them to 6i and then 9i, is it not?
Please help
Thanks. -
Hi OTNian,
Could you all please help me to understand below :
Does Weblogic with Apex 4.0 replaces OAS/SAO/Oracel web tier like HTTP sever functionality ?
background of quesion is:
we had hosted our oracle webplsql application using Oracle web tier using DAD configuration.
now some one sugegsted that we can use WLS(Weblogic server) with Apex 4.0,that too can work as HTTP sever for Oracel Webplsql application.Hi,
>
You asked:
Does Weblogic with Apex 4.0 replaces OAS/SAO/Oracel web tier like HTTP sever functionality ?
>
OAS = Oracle Application Server
SAO = Service Oriented Architecture ( this is not a server)
Oracle Web Tier is a bundle of matching servers for the web tier. Again is not a single server, its a collection.
APEX = A Rapid Application Development tool for webapplication development.
Oracle Apex runs with a number a J2EE Containers (Application Servers) and Oracle HTTP Server as well. It does not use OAS, only the OHS (mod_pls) and Cache, when configured on OHS.
APEX web access can be configured with ApexListener in a J2EE Container like WLS, Glassfish, etc.
PLSQL Web applications can be integrated into APEX applications and features, in the loose sense of the term, as they are.
Please search the forum to see what others have been doing for this.
I hope this clears up some aspects of your query.

Has anyone encountered any gotchas/compatibility issues we should be aware of ? Do we need to upgrade the middle-tier and Developer Tools at the same time ?
Many thanks in advance for any advice. Our forms application runs against a databases runnung on lot of platforms, like
HP-UX, AIX, WinServer 2k3, RedHat, Suse,...32 and 64 bit from 9.2.0.8 up to 10.2.0.4...
our development database is a 9.2.0.6 Windows Server 2003 32bit, and I haven't faced any problems on other platforms after moving to them (except the platform specific database bugs).
Only thing I can remember would be, if you make use of the utl_file package on the database - I'm sure you know the dos2unix and unix2dos fileformat problem.
so if you don't plan to change the middle-tier servers you should not run into serious problems (except a recompile of your forms against the new database could be necessary) to my mind. No need for changing middle tier and developer toos.
