OBI EE financial layout capabilities

On page 5 of the New Features white paper from January (http://www.oracle.com/appserver/business-intelligence/docs/oracle-bi-ee-new-features-10gr3.pdf) they show how an Answers table can be formatted into a P&L statement. The key-feature is that the sub-totaling is asymmetric, that is to say there are three columns that are summed but sometimes the subtotal is repressed if there is only one detail row, yet the same level of subtotal is displayed when there are two or more detail rows. Does anyone know how they actually did this? Is it through some trick in the Pivot Table view or using a template with the new BI Publisher feature?

Hi Kirkw,
Were you able to find out anything about this feature of Answers?
Thanks.

  • OBIA 11g: Financial Analytics Config

We are configuring OBIA 11.1.1.7 to Financial Analytics based on the tasks provided in documnetation. FInding it bit hard to understand the current documnetation structure after working on 7.9.6.3 where there were specific section for Fiancial Analytics related tasks.
Wanted to clarify the below. In 7.9.6.X we had to configure the below files as part of  EBS GL configuration.
    1> file_group_acct_names.csv
    2> file_group_acct_codes_ora.csv
    3> file_grpact_fstmt.csv
But apart from the 2nd file the other two files are not refered to in the OBIA 11g Config document. Not sure if those needs to be configured. If anyone has come across any categorized steps for Financial anlytics for OBIA 11g it would of help.. Di not find any here.
    Cheers

First 2 files are referred in configuration guide. You can skip the 3rd one.
I have successfully configured Financial Analytics with these 2 files and some others. e.g for FA

  • Financial report layout problem

    Hi ALL,
I have a financial report definition, which has 5 levels. Every level I have to show a total row, which is constructed by former total rows
plus some new rows. I tried to use new Pivot functionality to construct this report ,
but the problem is that in one column you cannot delete total rows selectively from the table, so you will have total rows for the single new rows also. This causes that you will have too much total rows, duplicate total rows at the highest levels.
There is an example in the document "oracle-bi-ee-new-features-10gr3.pdf" about financial layout. It shows a correct Pivot report, it looks fine. But I cannot reconstruct this report.
Can you tell me how they could delete in this example duplicated "Total Fixed Assets" and duplicated "Total Investments" rows which must have been there before?
    Thank you,

I don't think so, but you could just put the dimension inside of the report, merely for the purpose of the end-user being able to see the actual dimension name.
    Thanks,
    James

  • Editing new crystal layouts for financial reports in 8.8

After upgrading to 8.8 PL10 I decided to investigate the new financial layouts for Crystal. When I opened the layout however I couldn't make much sense of how it is structured or even functions, it seems to reference a PLD table that I couldn't find under tables, views, or stored procedures. Any advice on how to better manipulate this report would be great.
They are all structured similarly so lets use the new balance sheet as a reference.
    -John-Michael

    Hello!
    Here are my findings ...
    - The new Crystal Reports Layouts base deeply on the "old" PLD Layouts.
    - The table "PLD__ITEMS" is an XML-file with the data of the report.
    - If you want to show same additional fields of PLD__ITEMS on the report, it is not enough to drag the field on the report. You also  have to format the field and add additional info to the CSS-Class like: FileName="OINV";FieldNum="CardName";
The workflow I used to edit the new CR Layouts:
    1. Edit the old PLD Layout as needed
    2. Use the Crystal Reports Converter to get a CR from the PLD [Download|/docs/DOC-8768#section16 [original link is broken]]
(The PDF included gives some basic hints about the structure of the CR Layout)
    3. Edit the SAP CR with the informations of the converted CR (from PLD)
Hope this helps a bit ...

  • PDF Portfolios from V9 to VX

Below (first paragraph) is what I understand. My question follows paragraph. Thanks.
When you open a 9 portfolio in X, the 9 design appears as expected. Minor editing is allowed (add or delete files, edit filenames or descriptions) and can be saved in 9 format. HOWEVER, for extensive edits you must convert the portfolio to X. Then, the layout and colors convert to Click-Through layout with the Clean visual theme. Welcome pages, headers, color palettes from 9 are removed. Headers can be re-done but Welcome pages (which we use) are not supported.
So, can't do Welcome Page like I have in V9 portfolio. But, does anyone know the look/feel customization capabilities for a portfolio in X? Are custom colors allowed? How about a company logo? Is list view gone in X (user has to click through one or a handful of docs at a time)? Layout capabilities are limited in X (not like those in V9)?

You can customize Portfolios in Acrobat X (and XI) in two ways - using Flex you can create Layouts (these define how the cards behave and animate). Using Flash Pro and Illustrator you can then apply Themes (skins) to change the color and style of the elements.
Welcome screens do not exist, you can create something vaguely like them using a custom Layout but it won't have the same functionality. Joel Geraci at http://blog.practicalpdf.com has some free examples of custom designs but writing your own is a far-from-trivial Flex programming task.
See these tutorials - first one is an overview of what's possible, second is a Tech Talk recording of the process of making a Theme:

  • Cell Linkage.

    Hi Apple Community,
I'm wondering whether programmers at Apple read these posts. This is more of a suggestion than a discussion.
I am currently making a huge spreadsheet for my nano brewery business where I am creating Balance Sheets, P&L Statements, Cash Flow Statements, etc. Basically a financial model. I believe the spreadsheet is currently larger then the business itself in terms of value and scale.
The spreadsheet is set to a monthly cycle and the expenses are all tabbed out to other pages. This way I can enter daily expenses in a tab titled "Hops purchases" and it accumulates with the total appearing in the appropriate cell for "May" Hops expenses in the master sheet.
I would love to be able to then add a link to the "May Hops" cell in the master sheet so that whenever I want to add an expense I just click on the cell and it takes me directly to the "Hops Purchases" page.
    Excel has this option.
Now that I've put in that jab, I want to say a quick couple of things.
I hope the programmers at apple can fix this. I suspect that it will eventually make me annoyed enough to buy the Excel program because it is just more useful even for my rather unadvanced financial layout. While it's big, it's not super complicated.
Please don't tell me I can just move my mouse arrow up to the tabs and slide along them. I know this. It still takes longer than clicking on a linked cell.
And please don't tell me I can buy a pre-made financial model of some sort that has a workaround. I like what I'm doing. I'm a creative guy. Apple products are supposed to be for creative, independent people.
I love this new Mac I bought and I like how intuitive the Numbers program in general is. It was very easy to use and I rarely ran into serious issues that ate up hours of my time. That's key, because it is a unique talent I posess.
But please fix this. I've heard that Apple is not very forthcoming about admitting mistakes and doesn't always bother to address issues when consumers raise them. Prove the public wrong, please. You don't need to reply to this missive, I'm really just venting (Unless the internet is incorrect and there IS a way to create a link in a cell so that it takes me to another tab). Just fix it. Please, Please, Pretty-Please.
    Thanks,
    CDS

Meanwhile, if don't want to wait for Apple to build in this functionality, you can quite easily add something similar yourself.
For example, you can have something like this pop up whenever you hit a keyboard shortcut (in my case shift-command-j):
This is done via a Jump to Sheet Automator Service (Dropbox download).  To install just doubleclick the .workflow package and (if needed) click 'Download Anyway' in System Preferences > Privacy & Security.
This will cause a new item to appear in your Numbers > Services menu.  Then, if you want a keyboard shortcut, go here in System Preferences and add one:
You can rename or remove the service by holding down the option key in Finder and choosing Go > Library > Services. You can also view the AppleScript contaned within the service by opening the .workflow package in Automator.
This particular service jumps to the first cell of the first table of the sheet you choose from an automatically generated list of all sheets in the current document. That is precise enough for most purposes, though it is not hard, using simple AppleScripts, to "jump" to any cell in the current document, to cells in other Numbers documents, or even to non-Numbers files on your Mac.

  • IWork 09 vs MS/Office

I have both iWork 09 and MS/Office on my MacBook Pro.  I am a technical author and make extensive use of spreadsheets, manuscript word processing documents (i.e. books and articles), as well as presentations that must be powerpoint compatible.
I am extremely frustrated with iWorks '09.  I would love to use these products exclusively and get rid of my Microsoft Office, but it doesn't seem like this can happen.
There are many features in iWorks that I like, such as Pages layout capabilities.  I am however extremely frustrated with both Pages word processing cabilities, and Numbers page layout capabilities or lack thereof.  Just today I wanted to print a simple spreadsheet which is a list of names and addresses, with email and telephone numbers.  I could not fit this list on an 8 1/2 inch piece of paper in landscape.  It took me less than a minute to import the sheet into MS/Office and print a beautiful page.
In Pages, I was trying to write a book and wanted a table of contents along with various headings and chapter titles, etc. throughout the book, footnotes, etc.  I'm sure that Pages supports all these features but I darn sure can't find them!
Then little thing like fancy fonts...  In Microsoft Office, I can create 3D fonts, with all sorts of textures, 3D effects, etc. producing amazing fonts.  The best I seem to be able to do in Pages or Keynote is add a shadow or reflection.
Have I just overlooked some critical resources to help me learn to use these products or are they really as inferior to MS/Office as they seem to be?  I am terribly frustrated and greatly disappointed in Apple!
Documentation *****, the movie based tutorials are so freaking basic that it is a wonder they exist.  Show me how to layout a sophisticated book or report.  Show me how to build a sophisticated business presentation.  What about things like importing a table from a web page into a spreadsheet?
I'm really sorry to be so negative, but these products seem like a total waste of time and money and that I need to continue to use Microsoft Office which BTW lack at least 25% of the features they support on the PC!
I love my MAC, don't force me back tot he PC!

To ask Apple for new features in Pages and other iWork apps, go here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
But I don't think it is realistic to imagine that Pages will ever be able to always replace Word -- it's not intended to do that, is a whole lot cheaper, and has not been updated now for a long time.  Whether someone can do without Word depends on the features they require for their work and the level of compatibility they have to have with others using MS Office.  In your case I would recommend staying with Office.  After 10 years Mac Office is still behind Windows Office in various ways, so if only Windows Office does what you require, then you should run Windows on your Mac or use a PC.

  • SQL Data Modeler bugs (or only misused?)

    Hi,
I think I ran into some modeler bugs and missing features ...
BTW: is there a place where all the known bugs are listed?
    * although "no action" was selected in "General Options - Model - Relational" for foreign keys all the foreign keys are created with
"not deferrable" (well, why not, if it makes the modeler happy) and
"on delete set null" (thats not what I'd call "no action")
    * DDL statements for indexes lack the schema name
    * newly generated foreign relations are not always displayed in the relational model
    * DDL preview for syncing physical model with relational does not (always) work (well - so far it worked once)
steps taken: File - Import - Data dictionary, selected objects for import, correct target model chosen, "swap target model" checked
    * foreign keys in unique constraints are always set to "not null" (in logical and physical model)
    * no trigger/constraint created for ARCs (I am not sure about this, but IIRC I did not see anything making an ARC really work)
Or do ARCs simply not work yet?
    * modeler hangs sometimes (e.g. when opening "Save as" dialog etc.)
    * dialogs are opened outside visible pane when the position of monitors is changed (the dialogs seem to remember their last position)
    * sequences (physical model withing relational model) are loosing their user
    * missing multi schema capabilities :-(
    * the layout capabilities - pardon my french - suck
Especially that the boxes and lines seem to wander around from one usage to the next (entities aligned with grid - next start the entities are no longer aligned).
And if you ever need to save/export the model somewhere else all the references stick to a single connection point.
Not to mention a simple move of a box ...
    Thank you for your effort

    Hi Philip,
sorry for not answering quite a time ...
    Just some prerequisites ;-) ...
    - Target database: Oracle 10g R2 (10.2.0.4)
    - Modeler version 2.0.0 build 570
    - model creation method: logical model, relational model, (physical model), Database objects
    - OS WindowsXP German, SP3
    - JDK Sun Java 1.6, build 1.6.0_16-b01
    * nullable FK column in unique keys
meanwhile I found out, how to achieve that - but IMHO the steps to take are quite cumbersome
    1) make a FK relation with "target optional" checked on the Cardinality page of the FK properties
    2) open entity properties, check attributes of FK column (it says: nulls allowed - the checkbox cannot be changed)
    3) got to unique identifiers page and add a unique identifier
    4) open the unique identifier property dialog and add the foreign key
    5) close both property dialogs
    6) reopen the entity property dialog, check attributes of FK column (it says: no nulls allowed - the checkbox cannot be changed)
    7) check the FK properties: it still says: target optional (it is checked)
    8) check the graphical representation of the FK key: dashed line at target entity (meaning: optional)
    9) create the relational model: the FK column is created with "not null"
    10) go back to logical model
    11) change FK property to: target mandatory (uncheck "target optional")
    12) create relational model
    13) change FK property to: target optional (check "target optional")
    14) create relational model
    15) SUCCESS! the foreign key column is now nullable
BUT: you never ever must change ANY of the entities properties or you must redo steps 11 to 15
    * "no action" of FKs
I will look into that. Thanks for the suggestions.
    * DDL statements for indexes
Sorry for being imprecise ... I was talking about automatically generated indexes (for unique and foreign keys).
Those don't show up in the index listing of the tables in the physical model (probably, because they are automated).
But why do I have to set the default schema for indexes again? The tables get the schema information for the default schema (General Options - Model - Physical) but not the indexes :-(.
    Generated DDL snippet:
    CREATE TABLE ZCBC1ST1.ZCBRAGIT_AGENDAITEM ( ...
    CREATE UNIQUE INDEX ZCBSAgIt_U1X ON ZCBC1ST1.ZCBRAGIT_AGENDAITEM ( ...
Same for FK indexes. And the unique index property page in the physical table section does not let me specify a schema owner (OK for me, because the unique key is created by an "alter table" statement).
    * ARC trigger
My bad - I only checked "DDL preview" of the table, which doesn't show the ARC trigger. The complete generation does. Sorry.
    * "missing multi schema capabilities" and "sequences loose owner"
    Please excuse a newbie blush.
I just found out I can change the table owner using the physical model capabilities (I guessed I used way too long PowerDesigner V6 ;-) ).
    BUT ...
The newly created user does not "survive" a "save all - close all - open" sequence on "Physical Models" ... only closing the app or saving the Oracle10g physical model makes the user persistent.
And also ... if the new table or sequence owner is the first in the drop down list on the property dialog, the user is replaced by an automatically created new user (e.g. User4, User5, and so on).
    Example:
    * I have three defined users and the standard "MDSys" and "Public".
    * My three users are named ZCBC1ST1, ZCBCCore and ZCBCDial (those names are because i need to follow naming rules).
    * ZCBC1ST1 is my default physical model user, which was set in "General Options"
    * ZCBC1ST1 is the first in each drop down list.
    * I have some sequences named Seq1, Seq2, Seq3 and Seq4
    * Seq1 was given to ZCBC1ST1, Seq2 to MDSys, Seq3 to ZCBCCore and Seq4 to ZCBCDial
    * saved and closed the Oracle10g physical model and reopened it
    * Seq1 now has User4, but the other have still the users they were attached to
The same applies to tables - I am unable to give a table to the first entry of the user list.
Solution I found to this problem ...
    1) remove the default physical user in "General Options" (and never ever set it again)
    2) create a explicit user (with the name of the prior default user)
    3) manually reattach all objects to this user sigh
    4) so far not a problem with automatically generated indexes, because they don't use the default user anyway
    * newly generated FKs not shown in relational model
I had this odd behaviour several times.
    1) Logical model: adding a new FK relation
    2) giving the reference-column a pretty relational name
    3) generating the relational model
    4) rather often the new column shows up in the relational model but the arrow for the new foreign key does not.
    5) only after i open the properties dialog of the missing foreign key the arrow is shown in the model
    6) happens often to sub-models - less often to the top-model
    * model syncing (Oracle10g with modeler)
As Ms. Harper stated in one of her posts (and she even made a video tutorial IIRC) it should be possible to sync a Modeler model with the Oracle10g contents.
AFAIR the tutorial showed only how to sync the model with the contents but not vice versa.
I tried to achieve this checking the "swap target model" check box (that's the important thingy) of the import dialog. Everything worked fine besides there is only a preview of DDL statements available but no "Merge" or "Create DDL Statement". And exactly that preview doesn't seem to work anymore. No matter what objects I select, I am unable to see any DDL statements to upgrade the Database.
I don't know why, but it worked again just before. I will keep an eye on this. ;-)
    So much for now ...
    Thank you for your effort

  • New Masthead with a built-in search :: questions

I have created a new Page (2-column, wide and narrow) and in that Page I added my headerm iView and my search iView - header in the wide column, search in the narrow.
In my portal Framework, I made the existing header and the toolarea with search not visible. Effectively making the default masthead and toolarea go away.
I then added my new Page (new header iview with search iview built in) to the framework and positioned it in the masthead spot of the framework using the layout view.
My problem is that there is a visible border/padding/gaps between the header iView and the search iView. If my masthead area were all white (background color) this would not be an issue, but I am doing a similar gradient fade (like here at SDN) so these gaps do not look good.
I have set the "Show Padding Inside" property in all iView and the page to "NO" - this did not get rid of the gaps.
    <a href="http://www.midnighttoast.com/images/mastheadWithSearch.gif">Example</a>
I believe the issue lies in the Page - that it has these gaps in it and they cannot be turned off through properties or other standard interface options. Can anyone help me get rid of the gaps in my masthead?
    Thanks!

    Hi Tony,
I don't have an exact answer for you but I may be able to point you to something that would help.  If you are on NetWeaver 04 SPS14 or higher, there is new layout capabilities using tag libraries.  Here is the link to the documentation.  http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/42/ea3a29b28e1bcae10000000a11466f/frameset.htm
I have not used them but I have seen the results from people who have.  They tell me you can change just about anything.  Maybe someone with some experience will post and give you more info.
    Good Luck.

  • Configuring Global Currencies in BI Apps 7.9.6 for EBS 11.5.10 Source

    Hi All,
After reviewing the Configuring Common Areas and Dimensions section of the Oracle BI Applications document [Oracle Business Intelligence Applications Configuration Guide for Informatica PowerCenter Users Version 7.9.6 E14216-01|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14223_01/bia.796/e14216.pdf] I have a question regarding section +3.1.2 How to Configure Global Currencies+.
    Background
OLTP Source: Oracle E-Business Suite 11.5.10
    OBI Apps: Financial Analytics 7.9.6
We have 49 enabled Currencies and multiple Sets of Books (SOBs) each with a different Functional Currency and I am concerned with the limitations of the Global Currencies configuration within OBI Apps. From the documentation it states that:
Global currencies. Oracle BI Applications provides three global currencies, which are the common currencies used by the Oracle Business Analytics Warehouse. I'm keen to know if the 3 standard Global Currencies can be extended by adding further custom parameters in the Source System Parameters e.g. $$GLOBAL4_CURR_CODE, $$GLOBAL5_CURR_CODE, etc. and corresponding Exchange Rate parameters $$GLOBAL4_RATE_TYPE, etc.
From the documentation definition of Document, Local and Global currencies, the following configuration for the Global currencies does not make much sense:
    $$GLOBAL1_CURR_CODE (for the document currency).
    $$GLOBAL2_CURR_CODE (for the local currency).
$$GLOBAL3_CURR_CODE (for the global currency).Presumably these should be the 3 standard Global Currency definitions. If so, I want to confirm that the Document and Local currencies get picked up automatically depending on your EBS configuration?
Thanks for your time, all input greatly appreciated... and points duly awarded :-)
    Have a great day.
    Kind Regards,
    Gary.

    Hi,
The 3 Global currency codes are different from functional , local currency.
All the transactions are brought into the warehouse and there is no limitation to the number of currencies that can be brought in but for reporting purpose you want to convert all these transactions in multiple currencies to a single currency ...lets say US$ and at a monthly rate or GBP at a spot rate etc..
So in a nutshell the document and local currenclies do come in and there is no configuration needed but translation to a global reporting currency and the rates at which its converted is determined by what you provide in DAC.. the conversion is done by mplt_currency_conversion which is present in each and every fact mapping.

  • How to add a voiceover?

I'm creating a picture book and I want to add a voiceover.
I don't want to use an automatic iBooks voice that reads the text -- I want to use a voiceover artist, so I'll be adding a recording to the book. Each page will have its snippet of voiceover.
Can I do this with iBooks Author?
-- Can I add a voiceover so each page has its associated voiceover snippet?
-- How do I add a sound file? I don't see a menu command for this.
-- What type of file do I need to use for the sound file?
    Thanks.

pdaddy, the book you refer to was created with ePub rather than with iBooks Author. The telling part is in the left hand column about requirements for the book: "Requirements:This book requires iBooks 1.3 or later and iOS 4.2 or later. Books can only be viewed using iBooks on an iPad, iPhone (3G or later), or iPod touch (2nd generation or later)."
If the book is created with iBooks Author it requires iBooks 2.0 or later.
The book that you refer to and its voiceover capabilities are part of the ePub fixed layout capabilities since iBooks 1.2. iBooks Author creates a different file format (.ibooks) than fixed layout ePub (.ePub) which require different tools to create.
For more information on how to create fixed layout ePub books for use with the iBooks App (inclusive of read aloud features) you can see some links and tips from Jake Russel here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18468382

  • Prevent words / sentences from breaking apart to multiple type blocks?

When I open an indesign file exported as an eps, or open a pdf in Illustrator; almost aways the sentences or words will become separate type blocks. They will be in the correct position, but be one letter or multiple letter blocks. Is there any way to prevent this from happening?

    No.
This is because the PDF or Postscript file format does not support the layout capabilities of Illustrator within one object. Each line of type is a new object, as is anyplace where kerning has taken place, even if that kerning is automatic and build into the typeface.
You can select all the text objects, then paste them into a newly created text frame. You will probably need to add spaces where line endings used to be and returns t the ends of paragraphs.
