OBIEE Architecture

Hi,
I am having some doubts regarding OBIEE Architecture
1) how web-server will be available to obiee presenttation server? its by default avaliable r we need to do any thing for this?
2) suppose i am sending one request through answers first the request will come to bi server in the form of logical query how this will convert to physical query?
3) what is releation between obiserver and repository. i heard bi server will use repository to access the requested data?

Hi Ramana,
1) The BI Presentation Server resides either on the internal OC4J and thus an internal webserver or on an Application Server like OAS which has an apache webserver.
2) From what I know that the BI Server keeps a cache of the physical queries until refreshed so when you issue a logical query you are getting a response from the BI Server Directly unless instructed otherwise.
3) The Repository defines the metadata for the BI Server (The Logical Joins/DB Connections/Transformations/ and what to bring to the Presentation Layer) so it pretty much defines how the BI Server should work.
Hope those points would be of any help

  • Few Questions on OBIEE Architecture

This is just a continuation of this thread:
Confused on BI Publisher and BI Presentation Services
So just want to know how the whole process takes place, from RPD, XDO, NSQconfig..
    So from Step 1 =)
From what I understand as of now is I need to go to Administration Tool, create first a repository? Then go to BI Presentation Services to create reports ( using Answers )? When does the user creation comes into place? What is the purpose of BI Publisher? I've already setup a few things on BI Publisher like User, Roles, etc. but still not on the part of creating a report. Sorry If I ask too many questions, I'm just trying to understand what's the relationship of each tool. I've checked the docs and mostly they're just diving into modifying configs without really explaining why. ( at least that's how I saw it ) =)
    Thank you very much again!

Wow - where do we start !
Remember they are two seperate products, OBIEE and its related configs / components (RPD, BI Server, BI Presentation services - Answers, Dashboards, ibots etc)
BI Publisher, formerley XML Publisher, sucessor to Oracle Reports.
They fall under the Oracle BI Stack.
Loads of info on our website, link in the previous post you mentioned.
'Roles' in OBIEE can determine - Authorisation ie what you can do in the sytem or "Priviledges". What objects (reports / dashboards) you can use and can also be used for data security filters (Like a OBIEE 'virtual private database' version of the real Oracle DB option 'VPD')
Roles in BI Publsher typically can mean the same, who can create folders, who can create reports, who can run them , who can create data sources etc. Sometimes you have to use a system specific role name, sometimes you can create your own names and reference them as you please (BIP roles are typically one of a pre-defined set, OBIEE roles can be called whatever you want)
Sounds hard at first and without prior experience but seriously, there are some very very good blogs out there, as mentioned in previous response, we also have a lot of info on our website (Peakindicators.com)
    Feel free to email me.

  • OBIEE architecture using multiple datasources and repositories

    Hi
I am busy planning the migration of Oracle Discoverer to OBIEE.  I am looking to migrate the EUL from Oracle Discoverer to OBIEE.  At the same time though we need to install OBIEE on 2 different data sources, I will be building a new repository for at least 1 (if not both) of those data sources.
So I will have 3 different data sources and at least 2 different repositories.  A User will require the ability to report from all repositories.
Is there any advise out there to deal with multiple data sources & data repositories for OBIEE?  Will the User have single sign on to OBIEE and access the data in different URL's for instance?
    Regards
    Wez

instead of multiple repositories, you can have just one.
If you have 2 or more repositories you can merge them to one.
a repository can have multiple data sources.

  • High level OBIEE diagram?

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has a very high level OBIEE diagram, suitable for given new users a 10,000 foot view of the OBIEE system. I.e. something that shows browser talking to presentation services talking to BI Server talking to databases.
Does anyone have anything I can blatently steal...ummm I mean reutilize?
    Thx,

  • OID roles Not reflecting in OBIEE

    Hello All,
We have OID integration of OBIEE Architecture. We are assigning the Users various group which they belong to and that doesn't get reflected immediately, it needs the restart of OBIEE Services.
So every time the New Roles gets added does it need bounce of services? Is there any work around for this. We are using 10.1.3.3.1. OID is on different physical Machine.
    Thanks

    Hello -
By default, the RPD caches the session variable initialization blocks for session variables are set to use caching, and I think this may be your issue.
Log into the RPD and choose Manage ==> Variables. Select the initialization block that is being used for the OID integration, then double click on the GROUP variable. Next, click the "Edit Data Target..." button. On this screen, you will find a "use caching" check box. Uncheck this box, click OK, and save the RPD. I'm not sure if you have to, but you may want to bounce the services one last time for good measure to put your changes into effect. This should then allow you to make changes to your roles without having to bounce the services in the future.
    I hope this helps!
    Regards,
    Jason

  • Three tier architecture with OBIEE 11g

With 10g, there was option to install plug in for IIS or j2ee container in web server and connect to BI server in application zone. With this BI environment can be secured behind firewall and allows to implement 3 tier architecture.
How to accomplish this task in 11g? I have OBIEE 11g server in application zone. Need to configure to allow external users to connect to BI server using https from web server in dmz.

  • OBIEE 11g architecture & Installation

    Hi all,
in OBIEE 10g I often distribute the BIServer on a different machine from the Presentation Server, to separate the component and scale out the system.
Is this still possible to do something similar in 11g, or we have to install BIServer & Presentation on the same server?
Which is the best practice to follow to install the BIEE11g on a production environment?

  • OBIEE Data warehouse Architecture

Is it common to install the BI server and Database on different servers or both on the same.
I have installed OBIEE on OEL Version 5 update 2 64 bit and oralce's Retail Data Warehouse RDW on an other server OEL Version 5 update 2 64 bit.
There is a bug that requires a 32 bit client to be installed on the Database. The fix is to create a soft link between the OracleBi/server/Bin/xxxxx.so file on BI server to $ORACLE_HOME/client_32 lib32 libraries xxxxx10.1.so file. I don't see anywhere in the documentation of creating a softlink beween server so I am thinking maybe it's not possible to have the database and BI server on different servers.
    Thanks.

    The error I got was
nQSError: 46029 Failed to load the DLL /u01/app/oracle/OracleBI/server/Bin/libnqsdbgatewayoci10g.so. Check if 'Oracle OCI 10G' database client is installed.
    Fix
The symlink needs to go from libclntsh.so (which is the generic library name OBIEE will try to load) to your libclntsh.so.xxx library (libclntsh.so.10.1 in your case).
This is from another post Re: HPUX 11.31 / OBIEE 10.1.3.4 / 11g client - Unsatisfied code symbol error
However this is referring to both database and server being on the one server.

  • Challenges while Upgrading from OBIEE 10g to 11g

    Hi Gurus,
This is Kiran again. This time I am back with the upgradation issues. We have a client which is currently on OBIEE 10g. All components are already configured in OBIEE 10g with client on RPD, Catalog and implemented all security levels for those.
Now the challenge is to upgrade all activities which we have configured in OBIEE 10g. I have seen lot of stuff online and understood how to upgrade from OBIEE 10g to OBIEE 11g by simply clicking on ua.bat file. But I am unable to understand the process how it is upgrading the securities and environments.
Can anyone help me out by providing necessary stuff I need to take care of before taking the decision to upgrade from OBIEE 10g to 11g.
And also please clear me whether we will have any challenges in upgrading process. If yes, then what kind of challenges we will face and what kind of necessary steps we need to implement to resolve it.
What kind of Architecture we need to follow?
    How Schedulers will get upgraded?
Please help me out with your real experiences (Not the online websites). Your response will be highly appreciated and it will help lot of OBIEE professionals who are in the process of upgradation.
Thanks in Advance to all OBIEE GURUS.
    Kiran

    Hi Valli,
There is really great information available in this link. But I would like to know whether any one faced any issues while upgrading from OBIEE 10g to 11g. Please do share us few issues....

  • OBIEE 10g to 11g Migration on LINUX Machine

    Hi All,
I want to Migrate OBIEE 10g (Windows Environment with SQL Server DB) to OBIEE 11g on LINUX Environment with Oracle DB.
If anybody know this can you please help me how to do ?Thnaks in Advance.
As per my Knowledge i know upto this .... "first we need to deploy RPD and WEBCatalog files in to New(OBIEE11g) system and we have to test RPD and WEBCatalog files,Whether these two are working fine or not? Because in OBIEE 10g we have OC4J Server,But in OBIEE 11g Architecture wise it's entirely Different here we have OBIEE WEBLOGIC Server. We have to Deploy RPD in WEBCatlog files in to WEBLogic server. And If any changes have to do in Securities and Variables we need to make changes in that after Migration".
    Regards,
    Prasad.

    Prasad,
    Refer the tutorial here..http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/fmw/bi/bi11115/upgrade/upgrade_to_11g.htm#t4s3
    Your approach is correct.

  • New to OBIEE- Questions on OBIEE infrastructure..

    Hi Gurus/Experts,
I am very very new OBIEE technology. Our company decided to change the technology to OBIEE. So, We are in process of understanding the architecture and infrastructure for the same.
    I have couple of questions:
-the BI web server is the piece that has to run on Windows or It can run any machine?
-can the BI server and the BI scheduler server run in the same physical server (AIX) ?
Please let me if you are not clear on my questions.
It would be really great help..
    Warm regards,
    Ganesh Krishna.

-the BI web server is the piece that has to run on Windows or It can run any machine?Yes, OBIEE installers are available in different flavors like windows, LINUX, Solaris etc. You can have your BI web server (SAW) on any of the supported envn. Its not mandate to have it just on windows..
-can the BI server and the BI scheduler server run in the same physical server (AIX) ? Yes, both can run on same server. This is general practice..
    Refer OBIEE documentation here..
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10415_01/welcome.html
    Hope this clears your doubt.

  • OBIEE 11.1.1.7 installation Issues - Fails on Creating a Domain

    Hi,
I have completed all the steps mentioned in different posts in this forum regarding my error, but none of them helps. After comprehensive searching i have tried to install OBIEE with these steps also.
    1st time installation:
    1. Followed simple steps
       a) Created schema using RCU on MS SQL Server successfully.
       b) After that ran the setup of OBIEE, it succeeded all the way, but when it was configuring it stuck on Creating Domain, and eventually failed after 180 minutes.
    2nd time installation:
I completely removed, OBIEE from my system, with all the registry entries included. Started a fresh installation after reading all these forum posts. but still it failed again on Creating a domain, this time i kept on re-trying for 3 times, it failed and it took me about 315 minutes overall.
    a) Create a loop back adapter.
    b) Assigned that adapter an IP (10.10.10.10). Configured the /etc/host file reflecting my adapter IP and hostname.domain name.

    ERROR LOG ENDS
Request your urgent response on this matter. If anyone finds this same error, please send your feedback.
    Thanks

    Hello 0ad6e3fe-e3d8-4867-8ba9-780c4a7150ff,
Your name must be hard to type, let alone remember. Please choose a more speaking name / handle for this forum since it's inconvenient talking to an alphanumeric string rather than a person.
You seem to have port issues:
java.lang.Exception: Unable to find a free port in range 7001 and 7500
java.lang.Exception: Unable to find a free port in range 9500 and 10000
java.lang.Exception: Unable to find a free port in range 9500 and 10000
However you're on Windows, so I suggest you check the last post in this thread: Re: OBIEE 11.1.1.5 installation Error on windows 7 64 bit
BTW: Doing a google search as well as a normal forum search bring up that thread and the very first search result for you issue.

  • Upside down camera & the usual fix does not seem to be working

Hey there, So I'm one of those "lucky" owners of an Asus laptop with a camera (F3jp-ap098c) installed upside down, and so when I run Skype, or anything that uses the camera feed, it's upside down. The usual fix you can find on the net is: * install m
