OBIEE Dashboard prompt space Increase

Hello,
I have requirement, where management doesn't like the crowded prompts in dashboard (Oracle Business Intelligence 10.1.3.4.1), is there any way i can increase the space between two prompts ? Seems like something to do with js pages but not exactly sure from where to start ??
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!

If I understood you correctly you want the Prompt to show the BU Name but the SQL should filter on its corresponding ID ... BU ID ... as we all know that SQL works better when filtering on IDs rather than TEXT such as a name.
Well ... 2 weeks ago I put a SR as I think I have found some interresting bugs on this feature.
First of all you have to set this up in your RPD. Go to the BU Names Properties in the Business modell. In the General Tab you'll find something called Descriptor ID Column. Here you can set what this column should really use when filtering ... so here you set BU ID. that's it. Easy right?
Now to the bugs.
Bug #1 - If you do this and now try out a very simple analysis, drag and drop this BU Name on the report, drag a fact next to it, now go to Results and everything should look as it should. Now ... drag the BU Name upwards so it becomes a Table Prompt ... and now comes the bug, try to chose another item on the BU NAme ... ERROR!!!
Bug #2 - Try to make a Union of the previous Analysis. Make the other dataset exactly the same jsut for the ease of it. Now ... right cklick on the upper dataset and its BU Name, create a filter and set it to be prompted. Create a Dashboard prompt to filter on BU Name, Create a Dashbord with these two items ... and run it ... good luck ;)
As I said ... I've created a SR of this 2 weeks ago and still no answer but the generic one ... "Your update has been received" hahaha
So to answer your question, YES you can filter on BU Name using BU ID, as long as you don't filter on it with a Table Prompt. But funny enough it DOES work if I use it on a Dashboard prompt hahaha

    Hi All,
    I have the following query in the database sql results for the PAR_ID field.
    select nvl2(user_profiles.par_id,user_profiles.par_id,parties.par_id) from WFMT_SAINT_PR where user_profiles.user_id= {User()}

    Hi Gerard,
    Thanks for your response. I tried with your query but still I am not successful. The physical query for your sql looks like below:
    select nvl(T118658.PAR_ID , T118595.PAR_ID) as c1,
    T118658.USER_ID as c2
    from
    PARTIES T118595,
    USER_PROFILES T118658,
    JOBS T118552
    where ( T118552.PAR_ID = T118595.PAR_ID and T118552.PAR_ID = T118658.PAR_ID and T118595.PAR_TYPE = 'MFR' and T118595.STATUS = 'C' )
    I modified the query as below by creating 2 variables with row wise initialization.
    select distinct CASE WHEN USER_PROFILES.PAR_ID IS NULL THEN PARTIES.PAR_ID ELSE USER_PROFILES.PAR_ID END from "wfmt_saint_pr" where parties.par_id = VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.PAR) AND USER_PROFILES.USER_ID=VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.USER)
    But still I am not able to see PAR_ID populated on the dropdown when the PAR_ID is null in USER_PROFILES table.But It works fine when the PAR_ID is not null.
    The physical query looks ike this for my query:
    select distinct case when T118658.PAR_ID is null then T118595.PAR_ID else T118658.PAR_ID end as c1
    from
    PARTIES T118595,
    USER_PROFILES T118658,
    JOBS T118552
    where ( T118552.PAR_ID = T118595.PAR_ID and T118552.PAR_ID = T118658.PAR_ID and T118658.USER_ID = 'Administrator' and (T118595.PAR_ID in ('T12', 'TYC', 'VPG', 'XTS')) )
    Can you please advice.

  • OBIEE - How to selectively hide or disable columns on a dashboard prompt?

    Hello! I need some help with OBIEE dashboard Prompts. Any help will be highly appreciated!
    Question 1. How to selectively hide or disable columns on a dashboard prompt or the entire prompt? There seems to be no "hide" or "dsable" options on
    prompts.
    Question 2. How to synchronize 2 different prompts on the same dashboard?
    The application is this: There are total of 2 tabs on a dashboard ("tab_1" and "tab_2"). Each tab uses different prompts ("pr_1" and "pr_2"), having just one first drop down column in common ("Product_id").
    The desired functionality is this: user selects "Product_id" on the first tab's prompt, which filters its reports (on "Go") and also propagates to the second tab. When user clicks on the second tab, the reports there are already filtered (or begin filtering) by "product_id", selected on the first tab.
    Question 3. How to prevent the reports from retrieving when switching to a different tab on a dshboard? Specifying dummy default values in the prompt does
    not seem to preven reports from retrieving, which still takes time.
    Thank you very much!
    Roger

    Regarding Question 2:
    What you need to have is a Dashboard scope dashboard prompt for Product_ID (i.e., Don't use the column prompt from the prompt tab within the Request.)
    1) Create the dashboard prompt, put it on tab1 and save the prompt to a presentation variable, say prmtProdID. Set the scope to "dashboard." (This is the default, by the way.) If you create a dashboard prompt and set the scope to "dashboard," then the prompt values selected will hold true across dashboard pages.
    2) On tab2, go to your report and in Criteria mode, apply a filter to the Product_ID column making it equal to the PV. (Click the filter icon, Add>Variable>Presentation Variable and type prmtProdID. Save.)
    When the user selects a Product_ID on tab1 of your dashboard and hits "Go," not only will it filter your report on tab1, when you go to tab2 the report here will be filtered with the same value selected in the prompt on tab2.
    Regarding Question 3:
    If you implement 2, you cannot implement 3. You can't have it both ways. Not for the same scenario. But if you want to know how to do it in general, read this:

  • Dashboard prompt - OBIEE and Publisher

    I'm using OBIEE 11g, when I added BI publisher report in the dashboard, it seems like the parameter are not there anymore. How can I add Bi publisher report parameters into the dashboard?

    Hey,
    I am not quite clear with your question, but this is how the dashboard prompts and parameters work in OBIEE 11g. You create a dashboard page, and embed the necessary dashboard prompts in it. When you create the dashboard prompts, you make sure the selected value is populated into a presentation variable by checking the set variable option to presentation variable and giving the variable name, the same parameter name you set on the column in the BI Publisher parameter.
    Lets take a quick example:
    - You are in BI publisher creating a data model, and you got to the point where you are ready to create parameters for the data mode.
    - You give the parameter a name ( lets take ABCD123 for instance is the name of the parameter you created).
    - In the OBIEE dashboard prompt, you give the same name for presentation variable.
    - The variable name synch's up and filters on the value accordingly.
    Thanks,
    -Amith.

  • Seperate Subject area for Dashboard Prompts

    Hi,
    Is there any way by which we can create seperate subject areas for OBIEE dashboard prompt only??
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Yes we can create separate subject areas for dashboard prompt's alone. Here is a case
    Say we need to create a constraint enabled prompt in our dashboard. So we bring in two dimension columns into the prompt.
    When we run the prompt, the queries across these two dimensions go through a fact table (Because the only way two different dimensions can be joined is through a fact . This fact table is chosen by BI Server intelligently at run time and that can be set through Implicit Fact column also though). In this case there is a chance that some of the dimension rows might get skipped in the constrained prompt as all of the records might not be present in the fact table.
    To mitigate this issue, we might want to create a separate subject area for dashboard prompts alone (using some fact less fact or by having a surrogate key in the 2nd dimension table etc).
    Hope I am clear :)
    Thank you,
    Dhar

  • Issue in Dashboard Prompt of OBIEE 11g

    Hi,
    I had recently migrated from OBIEE 10g to OBIEE 11g.
    I had found that there are lot of things which were working on OBIEE 10g are not working in OBIEE 11g.
    For Eg:
    I have scenario where i have 2 dashboards with different dashboard prompts.
    - *1st Dashboard*: I have prompt with 4 columns Year, Month, Qtr and Week. I can filter the data based on the selection of prompt.i.e Summary Report showing all KPIs and when clicked on the any of the KPI it goes to Below report which shows the graphical view of past weeks data.
    - Report: Here i show all the week Ids in the Graph format and when clicked on the any week id it navigates to 2nd Dashboard(below) with appropriate week populated in the prompt and show the detailed records.
    - *2nd Dashboard*: I have prompt with 5 columns Year, Month, Qtr, Week and Day of the Week with some detailed report. Here the only Week Id should be pre populated and show data based on the week id selection in the above report.
    The issue here in OBIEE 11g is, The month Id which was selected in 1st Dashboard prompt is also getting pre populated into the 2nd dashboard prompt. Which should not happen.
    Note: This was working fine in OBIEE 10g.
    Is there any way to fix this issue in OBIEE 11g.
    Regards
    Shyam

    Hi Bala,
    Thank you for your response.
    I had tried that and resolved my problem but it was impacting other reports i.e
    I have other reports in 1st Dashboard with different tabs, Here i want the prompt value to be persisted across the reports in same dashboard so that when i go to other tab with in same dashboard the prompt value should be pre-populated and the data should be filtered against that.
    Now if i change the scope to page then i will be loosing this functionality.
    It was working on OBIEE 10g and i lost this after migrating to OBIEE 11g.
    Can you please help me in this regard.

  • Obiee 11g 11.1.1.6 Action links not taking into consideration DashBoard Prompts

    I really hope someone can help.
    I have a dashboard with an analysis that has a column that is not shown but is prompted via dashboard prompts.
    This dashboard is a summary set of data and the column in question is deliberately exclude at the request of the users for clarity within the analysis.
    An example would be a pivot report that looks something like this.....
    OrgUnit
    Year 2010-11
    Year 2011-12
    Org 1
    5
    19
    Org 2
    7
    25
    Org 3
    3
    7
    With a Prompt on the dashboard for example pay grade set to a default value.
    The dashboard prompt works just fine and only the items prompted for are shown.
    However - the dashboard report has another report linked via an Action Link - that allows you to drill down on one of the values.
    The prompts on the linked report are Org Unit, Year and Pay Grade.
    clicking on the Year 2010-11 value for Org 1 I would expect only 5 results however every value for the year 2010-11 at Org 1 is returned and the prompt on pay grade is ignored - obviously as it not passed by the action link!
    How can I get around this?
    Is this a 'feature' of OBIEE as other similar tools I  have used take any top level prompts as explicit parameters for further drill downs - any help would be appreciated.....

  • OBIEE 11g Dashboard Prompt Reset Button Functionality

    Dear Experts,
    Can anyone explain what is the exact functionality of 'Reset' Button in any OBIEE 11g Dashboard Prompt.
    If anyone found any documentation related to it... please let me know.
    thanks,
    Varun

    Hi Varun,
    This is the functionality of Reset button,
    Reset will go back to last applied values. It does not clear values. Currently the Reset button works in the following ways:
    if 1) the prompt is blank 2) select some value, 3) reset 4) it should go back to blank.
    if 1) the prompt is blank 2) select some value, 3) apply 4) reset. 5) it should NOT to back to blank. actually it does not change anything.
    if 1) the prompt is blank 2) select some value, 3) apply 4) change any values 5) reset. 6) it should undo any changes in step 4.

  • Passing Chinese characters in OBIEE 11g GO URL to init the dashboard prompt

    Hi Experts,
    Currently we are using OBIEE 11g and passing the dashboard prompt parameter values through the OBIEE go url. When we are passing English strings the dashboard prompt is initialized with the correct passing value. However for Chinese character it is not. I am using the URLEncoder.encode("parameter value", "UTF-8") encoding to encode the passing string.
    Can anyone tell me what is the wrong in this approach? How can we pass any language strings to OBIEE 11g via go url?
    Thanks

    To avoid encoding problems use POST method. Here is js example for OBIEE 10g, but I bellieve you will find similar XML syntax in 11g.
    function getGoXML(P){
         var goXML = '<sawx:expr xmlns:sawx="com.siebel.analytics.web/expression/v1" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:type="sawx:logical" op="and">';

              goXML = goXML + '</sawx:expr>';
         goXML = goXML + '</sawx:expr>';
         return goXML;
    function dashboardPageNav (navParams){
         var tForm = saw.createForm("customNavForm");
         tForm.action = saw.commandToURL("Dashboard");
         saw.addHiddenInput(tForm, "PortalPath", navParams.portalPath);
         saw.addHiddenInput(tForm, "Page", navParams.portalPage);
         saw.addHiddenInput(tForm, "Action", "Navigate");

  • Column hiding based on Dashboard Prompt value in OBIEE 10g

    Hi,
    Can you please let me know, whether there is any possibility of "hiding the column based on the value selected in the Dashboard Prompt".
    Your suggestions are highly appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards
    Siva

    Hi,
    Simple way to solve it.
    Steps
    1.) set presentation variable for each columns of your dashboard prompt
    2.) edit your analysis of table/pivot view ---> colums formate header in this place just keep it your presentation variable values like below
    E.x
    @{ccy}
    Then save it and then test out

  • Problem with dashboard prompt initial value (OBIEE 11g)

    Hi alli,
    I have a problem with dashboard prompt and session variable in OBIEE 11g.
    I have declared a session non-system variable which I set/change with dashboard prompt. At login the variable is initialized in initialization block that gets a value from an SQL select statement.
    When I change the value in prompt, the session variable changes accordingly, as it should (change is made by calling function NQSSetSessionValue() within javascript function). While I am in my dashboard, cruising around pages the variable stays the same, and when I return to the page that has prompt on it, the correct value is shown. Everything works fine.
    The problem occures when I go to Catalog (in presentation services) to create some new Answers. When I return back to the same page in dashboard (which has a prompt), the prompt selected value and session variable are set back to the default value. It looks like the initialization block is executed again.
    My prompt is configured like this:
    - Choice List Values: SQL Results
    - Default selection: Variable Expression (@{biServer.variables['NQ_SESSION.VariableName']} )
    - Set a variable: Presentation Variable
    Is there a way to stop the initialization block from executing again? Isn't it logical that the initialization block executes only at login, when the session variable is empty? I don't need it to execute every time i come to the dashboard.
    Thanks in advance,
    Marko

  • Cascade dashboard prompts in OBIEE 10.1.3.4

    Hi,
    Is there any concept of Cascade dashboard prompt in OBIEE 10.1.3.4.
    I have a requirement as described below -
    Start date and End date dashboard prompts. (Calendar) - Results of Start Date and End Date selected are captured in the Presentation Variables Startdt, Enddt respectively.
    Promotions dashboard prompt (multi select) - This Prompt should show the results from the SQL Query -
    SELECT "- National Promotion - Canadian Market"."National Promotion" FROM "SPDM" where "- National Promotion - Canadian Market"."NP Status"='Active' and "- National Promotion - Canadian Market"."NP Region"='Canada' and "- National Promotion - Canadian Market"."NP Type"='National' and "- Calendar".Date BETWEEN DATE '@{Startdt}{06/28/2010}' AND DATE '@{Enddt}{12/31/2010}'
    But the results are not populating in the Promotions Prompt. Can anyone help me in fixing this.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Sri

    Hi
    This is a known OBIEE bug.
    Please refer http://gerardnico.com/wiki/dat/obiee/presentation_variable_initialization
    With a Multi Select dashboard prompt
    You cannot set a Presentation Variable in a Multi Select dashboard prompt in OBIEE 10g. This is expected behavior. OBIEE 10g is working as designed. A Presentation variable can assume a single value. Because of that, presentation variables are not available when using multi select prompts. OBIEE 11g will introduce the ability to set Presentation Variables when using multi select prompts. In 10g you can try as a workaround using more than 1 prompt.
    I don't more work arounds than listed here:
    http://obiee-blog.info/answers/multiselect-prompt-presentation-variable/
    But, these work arounds might not suffice your issue.
    Please let me know if you come up with a better solution.
    Good Luck.
    Chandu.
