OBIEE web server - OAS or Oracle Weblogic

Hi,
I want to know which web server is better for deploying OBIEE (OAS or Weblogic).
What is the difference between them?
Thanks,
Vino

no problems using stand alone OC4J.... looks like you are fishing for the server still.. i thought u had couple of servers and was confused what to use....

  • Sun Web Server Reverse Proxy and Weblogic HTTP to HTTPS redirection

    Hi,
    I am currently testing reverse-proxy from SJSW 7.0 update 5 to Weblogic server but I have encountered an issue.
    I have configured a context root to be forwarded to weblogic:
    Web Server: www.server.com
    URI: /path
    Reverse Proxy URL: wlserver:9000
    When I access https://www.server.com/path, I am getting the correct page. The issue is, the weblogic server is configured to redirect HTTP access to HTTPS, i.e., when I access http://www.server.com/path, it should be redirected to https://www.server.com/path. However, that is not the case. What happens is that I am being redirected instead to https://www.server.com/.
    If I don't use reverse proxy, that is, if I use the libproxy.so from weblogic, I get the correct redirection.
    Would appreciate it very much if someone can help me troubleshoot this issue.
    Thanks in advance!

    I am not sure, how you have configured your reverse proxy since you didn't attach / refer your current configuration file. this is how I would do it..
    - create a new configuration (using web server 7 admin gui , within configuration wizard, disable java option if you plan to use web server 7 only for reverse proxy)
    - select this new configuration and go to reverse proxy and try to reverse proxy / to the origin server.
    that is all it should need.
    your obj.conf or <hostname>-obj.conf depending on your configuration should look like following snippet
    <Object name="default">
    AuthTrans..
    NameTrans fn=map from="/" to="/path" name="reverse-proxy-/"
    </object>
    <Object name="reverse-proxy-/">
    Route fn=....
    Service ..
    </Object>
    this is all you should need..
    However, if you wanted to add complexity to your configuration, you could do some thing like
    <Object name="default">
    Auth..
    <If defined $security>
    NameTrans fn=map from="/" to="/path" name="reverse-proxy-/"
    </If>
    </Object>
    <Object name="reverse-proxy-/">
    Route...

  • Replace Quotes, Connection Pooling, and Sun Web Server with MySQL, Oracle

    This is code I use to insert data into my MySQL and Oracle databases.

    This is in one class where I have a hashtable containing the
    column name / value pairs that I want to enter into my table.
    This class simply creates the SQL string from the values in the
    hashtable. It then passes that hashtable including the database
    name to a class which executes that sql statement (second code
    portion).
    /* Insert data into sf_parts. Create the column strings from
             * the provided hash table. Be sure to parse out hash elements which
             * are used for the createTemplate process
            StringBuffer values = new StringBuffer();
            StringBuffer fields = new StringBuffer();
            Enumeration keys = fieldHash.keys();
            while(keys.hasMoreElements()){
                Object currentKey = keys.nextElement();
                    String fieldValue = (String) fieldHash.get(currentKey);
                    if(values.length() >0){
                        values.append(",");
                    values.append("'"+fieldValue.replaceAll("'","''")+"'"); // Takes care of quotes and various other special characters!
                    if(fields.length() >0){
                        fields.append(",");
                    fields.append(currentKey);
            sql = "INSERT INTO myTable (" + fields.toString() + ") VALUES (" + values.toString() + ");";
            String insertResult = caq.getInsertDelete(sql,"myDatabaseName"); // your database name is defined in web.xml and sun-web.xml when you use Sun Web Server's Connection Pooling.
            returnValue += "<br><br><b>Rows inserted into table(myTable): </b>" + insertResult + "<br>\n";
            And, like I describe above, this method executes the sql statement.
         * Takes care of insert, update and delete requests.
         * Must have set both dbName as well as the sql String.
         * Will return number of rows affected as String.

        public String getInsertDelete() {

            try{
                // Get connection from configured pool
                initContext = new InitialContext();
                source = (DataSource) initContext.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/" + dbName); // I have this set up in web.xml and sun-web.xml (I use Sun Web Server 6.1SP which does connection pooling for me)
                conn = source.getConnection();
                if(conn != null){
                    stmt = conn.createStatement();
                    rv = stmt.executeUpdate(sql);
            }catch (SQLException e){
                // do something
            }catch (Exception e){
                // do something
            }finally{
                try{
                    stmt.close();
                }catch(Exception e){
                    // do something
                try{
                    conn.close();
                }catch(Exception e){

                    initContext.close();
                }catch(Exception e){

            return rv+"";
        }

    This is not a question and I am not looking for an
    answer, but please post comments or suggestions.Using prepared statements would mean that you wouldn't have to worry about quotes.
    You should be closing the result set.
    You are handling all fields as strings. That won't work with time fields and might not work for numeric fields.
    Presumably most of your variables are member variables. They should be local variables because that is the scope of the usage.
    You must do something with the exceptions.
    Hashtables although convienent mean that problems with usage can only be resolved at run time rather than compile time.

  • Running a web server along with Oracle XE - Port 8080 problem & solution

    Hi,
    My company is tight on computing power so we're using an older machine to run our Oracle XE instance and our Apache web server. The Apache server is using port 80 to host the website, while Oracle XE is using port 8080 for APEX.
    Initially this did not pose any problems, but as when our consultants were at clients sites they weren't able to access port 8080. This was a huge problem for us since we use APEX for our time sheet system.
    I could have used a 2nd computer to host the APEX engine on port 80 (if you want to know how to do this just search the forum), but I didn't have an extra machine at my disposal.
    After doing some reading I found that I could modify the Apache httpd.conf file (/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf for linux systems) to handle this. I thought I'd post my results for others in the same situation:
    - #Search for the mod_proxy section and add the following:
    - ProxyRequests Off
    - #This maps the :8080/apex to :80/apex
    - ProxyPass /apex http://www.mydomain.com:8080/apex
    - ProxyPassReverse /apex http://www.mydomain.com:8080/apex
    - #This maps the :8080/i/ (for images) to :80/apex.
    - #YOU NEED THIS since all images and js calls reference the /i/ directory
    - ProxyPass /i http://www.mydomain.com:8080/i
    - ProxyPassReverse /i http://www.mydomain.com:8080/i
    - #Search for Alias and add the following:
    - #This is optional. It will allow a simple url for your users to access a common application
    - Redirect /myapps http://www.mydomain.com/apex/f?p=100
    Of course you can add some restirctions, and verification for the apache module to the conf above, but I thought I'd keep it basic for this example.
    Hope this helps others in the same sitation.

    Thanks for all the responses I got,
    Martin, Thank you
    I tried the same advises on my static IP address and it works fine, and very quickly some times, thank you.
    My Appache function well and I test a sample webpage.
    The domain name did not succeed in my network, may be because its a fake one, I do not really know but I already have an active domain but want to use it when the things will work for sure in all the aspects, and finish the tests.
    Your advises were very useful for me.
    But I still get the TCP_Error with timeout, some times, I think, the issue is related to the network now (not sure, but the tests takes long time and I prefere to let you know the development for now) , I'm trying to fix the network, as much as I can to get the perfect performance. But I just wonder about the Listener , may be there is something we need to change, still testing
    Did you tried your applications onsite from multiple workstations at the same time in Oracle XE using your web server?
    Appriciate your help and all other attendants.
    Thanks

  • Security issue with web server plug-in with Weblogic server

    Hi,
    I have a setup where I have an Microsoft IIS setup as the front facing web server and have the WLS IIS plug-in installed on it. At the backend, is two WLS11g managed servers in a cluster.
    I have a JAX-WS client running on HPUX hitting the web service via IIS but I observe a very strange thing. When the service request is rather small, it could pass through IIS and the managed servers could pick up the call and reply correctly. However, when I have a bigger request call (larger payload), it will error out, citing "Unsupported Content-Type: text/html Supported ones are: [text/xml]".
    I have also attempt to put in a TCP/IP Monitor between the client and IIS and it appears that regardless if the call gets through, it seems to consistently got hit with a HTTP error 401.2, follow by a 401.1, and then, the WSDL came back. I am pretty sure that the web services are not secured as I could get the WSDL without any authentication on the managed servers direct from my brower (it did pop the authentication window if I attempt to hit the web services via IIS)
    Anyone has any idea what is going on, the issue seems to be so contradicting...
    Thanks in advance.

    When you look at this link http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/WindowsServer2003/Library/IIS/8feeaa51-c634-4de3-bfdc-e922d195a45e.mspx?mfr=true
    You can check the authentication method that is configured for that node in the metabase.

  • Problem to install my web server application on Oracle-Apache web server

    I've developed my web site using Sun one studio 4 update 1 in according with the servlet engine version 2.3 (Tomcat 401).
    After the compilation I've try to install my site on Oracle-Apache 9i which use the servlet engine version 2.0.
    My problem concern that there's an complilation error about the server engine version. How I can update my sun One Studio Tomcat with the servlet engine version 2.0 and where I can find this servlet engine version to tomcat module?
    Many thanks

    You really need to upgrade your Oracle application server. Oracle 9iAS release 2 v903 is fully J2EE1.3 compliant and won't give you such problems.
    For now, change your session.getAttribute/session.setAttribute calls to session.getValue/session.putValue, which is the deprecated previous api.

  • Deleting Server Cache in Oracle Weblogic Integration...

    Hi All,
    I just hope I am posting at the right place.
    If not, please redirect me...
    I am using Weblogic Integration and now I need to deploy all my work on por production environment.
    While working in the local env, I used to delete .wlnotdelete and other cache folders before restarting the server.
    My query is that if I delete those folders on production env, will that cause any adverse effect?
    .jpd's are probably stored there...so maybe that or can anything else lead to some issues?
    Kindly advice.

  • Problem when adding a web server in front of weblogic

    Hello all,
    I have the following problem. A Sun ONE WS (6.1) was added in front of the weblogic 70 that runs our application. The WS just forwards the requests from port 91 to the weblogic port, which is 8001. In my application, I have only one <welcome-file-list> that works fine if I access the AS directly. However, It doesn't work when I try to do it thru the WS. Is there anything I need to change in weblogic or my application to make this <welcome-file-list> functionality work ? Someone know if the HTTP request is received differently if it's sent internally ?
    Thanks a lot!

    The AS wasn't the problem. Sun one was appending index.html in the request when it forward it to the AS...

  • How o point discoverer web server to OBIEE web server

    Hi experts,
    I have installed OBIEE on OC4J. Now I installed Discoverer on the same machine. It installed with another OC4J . I want to point that discoverer's OC4J to OBIEE OC4J. Means I want to have only single OC4J for both OBIEE and Discoverer.
    Please suggest.

    HI Turribeach,
    Currently our production system is configured with two node cluster. BI is exposed to our customer through our portal in a SaaS model. The reason for trying out this option to host the static content files (CSS, Images, JS etc) on the content data networks (CDN) so that the response of the UI is consistent from different locations.
    Thanks,

  • WebLogic's  web server

    Which web server is used with WebLogic application server ? I mean with the default installation ? For Oracle Application Server, Oracle HTTP server was the default ?

    WebLogic Server serves HTTP traffic through it's own Servlet engine and does not require a separate web server. If you want to front-end WebLogic Server with another HTTP server or a hardware load balancer, then you are welcome to use the HTTP server plugins. Both Apache and IIS plugins are available with WLS 10.3

  • WebLogic App server - IHS web server

    Will the same "Apache HTTP Server Plug-In" allow IBM/IHS web server to work with WebLogic App server? If so which versions are supported?

    Hello I'm trying to install the plugin in IHS 2.0X as per the instructions:
    copy mod_wl_20.so file to modules directory,
    made a following entry in httpd.conf:
    LoadModule weblogic_module modules/mod_wl_20.so
    verified that httpd.conf is ok..but IHS coredumps upon startup. Any ideas please? Appreciate your help! Thanks!
    This is on Solaris 8

  • Oracle Weblogic Server 10.3.3 editions

    Hi,
    Oracle data sheet http://www.oracle.com/us/products/middleware/application-server/wls-featurematrix-ds-069041.pdf says:
    "The Oracle WebLogic application server family includes three offerings; Oracle WebLogic Server *Standard Edition*, Oracle WebLogic Server *Enterprise Edition* and Oracle WebLogic *Suite*."
    My question is:
    Since during Weblogic installation I don't get asked any questions about install type or choosing edition how do I know which licence should I obtain?
    With regards,
    Goran

    Hi Goran,
    From what I know is that WLS has stop using licence.bea file from the version WLS- 10 MP-2, which can also seen in the below link which only provides licence file till WLS 10 MP-1
    Topic: BEA WEBLOGIC SERVER PRODUCTS
    http://www.oracle.com/us/support/licensecodes/bea/index.html#WLSP
    Hence you do not need to worry about the licence.bea file, however to get more information on it I think WLS support team would be the correct people so would ask you to open a ticket with them.
