Obtain referenced classes from 1.6' javax.tools.JavaCompiler

Hi,
I'd like to use JavaCompiler both to compile .java source files and to maintain dependency information in one go. How do I obtain a list of referenced classes (or even methods, fields, etc) after/during compilation?
Thanx in advance
Oliver

Thanks for the answer... I don't know how to refer to the jre path from within web start. I have solved problem ii) by passing a -cp option to the compiler. Here it is a sample code:
          ClassLocader cl = OnTheFlyCompiler.class.getClassLoader();
          List<URL> classpath = new ArrayList<URL>();
          if ( cl instanceof URLClassLoader ) {
               URLClassLoader cl2 = (URLClassLoader)cl;
               for (URL jar : cl2.getURLs()) {
                    classpath.add(jar);
          String classPath = System.getProperty("java.class.path");
          for (String path : classPath.split(File.pathSeparator)) {
               try {
                    classpath.add(new URL("file:"+path));
               } catch (MalformedURLException e) {
                    System.err.println("Wrong url: "+e.getMessage());
                    e.printStackTrace();
          StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();
          for (URL jar : classpath) {
               sb.append(jar.getPath());
               sb.append(File.pathSeparatorChar);
          String ops[] = new String[] {"-cp" , sb.toString() };This along with disabling security does the trick for me. However I had to use NetX jnlp implementation, since when doing this trick the sun version returns the original urls (like http://internal/webstart/build.jar), whereas NetX returns the path of the downloaded files (e.g. /tmp/build.jar).
I will accept your suggestion and post to bugs.sun.com.
Ciao.

  • Error-- Referencing classes from project 1 in project 2 using libraries option

    Using JDev 9.0.3
    I'm struggling with an error that's occuring that I know should not be...
    I have two projects (SessionUtils & TradingSumStruts).
    SessionUtils has 4 java files all of which have a package name of: com.arca.sessionutils.
    TradingSumStruts has 3 java files all of which have a package name of: com.arca.tradingsum.
    One of the java files in TradingSumStruts imports a class from SessionUtils
    import com.arca.sessionutils.SessionUtil;
    In TradingSumStruts project I have created a new user library and called it: SessionUtilsLib. This lib points to the classes directory of SessionUtils, and the src directory of SessionUtils in the same workspace.
    I've shut down the oc4j server, deleted any existing class files for the above two projects, and recompiled both projects. When I run the app, I get the following error:
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/arca/sessionutils/SessionUtil
         void com.arca.tradingsum.TradingSumInfo.<init>(javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest)
              TradingSumInfo.java:67
    when I attempt to call SessionUtil.xxxMethod().
    I have double and triple checked my spelling, my library entries, my class files, and even re-booted my machine.
    ANY ideas would be greatly appreciated!

    Don't use libraries for this. Define a project dependency for your project using the project properties dialog. This will automatically include your project classes without hardcoding the path into a library.

    Solved my own problem and forgot to post the answer: the "xsd:import" is also considered as a targetNamespace, so each xsd:import needs a package specified as well when using oracg. It would be helpful if the Oracle documentation had stated that, but it does not point this out.

  • How to obtain a URL from a path in a class' method?

    Hey everyone!
    Newbie here needing to convert the following method from a jsp page into a class for one of our applications.
    I have a method in a class which takes a path (as a string). However, I can't seem to figure out how to have java output the corresponding URL in a jsp page.
    For example, in the jsp file, I would provide something like:
    "./../../../../../../temp/gfx/" as the path.
    The "getRealPath()" method converts it nicely to a URL. However, I can't seem to figure out how to use this method within a class file. Is there a way to obtain the URL from a class' method? If so, how?
    --- old code below ---
    ServletContext application = getServletConfig().getServletContext();
    String msg = "";//#Either the IMG tag or message to be returned.
    File dir = new File(application.getRealPath(IMAGE_DIRECTORY));

    Thanks for that hint!
    Also, we're using Websphere... is there an easy way to take a partial url passed as a string and find the full path for it?
    Example:
    /images/today/
    and have it automatically converted to:
    F:/Inetpub/wwwroot/images/today/
    automatically in java?
    Or is this something where both a full system path and URL need to be passed?
    Thanks!

  • Is there a restriction on loading "javax" classes from WEB-INF/lib?

    I'm having trouble with a webapp in WL 10MP1 that is having trouble loading classes from the "jsr311-api-1.0.jar" in my WEB-INF/lib. Even though I have no trouble with it in Eclipse (no compile errors), classes from that jar fail with "NoClassDefFound" exceptions. I have a feeling it might be the fact that the packages in that jar start with "javax". Assuming that's the case, is there anything I can do to fix this?
    What's even stranger is that the errors I get are when I try to load them directly from the Spring context. However, if I remove the test references to those classes, there's other code that loads those classes later in the application startup (after the Spring context finishes loading), and they load perfectly fine (I turned on verbose class loading to verify this).

    Note that I've tried two other strategies that both result in the same failed state.
    I tried putting the "jsr311-api-1.0.jar" in $JDK_HOME/jre/lib/ext, but that causes a failure to find Spring classes. I then copied the "spring.jar" into $DOMAIN_HOME/lib, and then it fails to find CXF classes. After doing the same with "cxf-2.2.3.jar", it then fails to find "javax.servlet.ServletContextListener", which clearly tells me there's no benefit to this approach.
    Similarly, I tried copying the jars into $DOMAIN_HOME/lib, and that fails to find "org.apache.commons.logging.LogFactory". I could continue down this path, but it doesn't seem likely to succeed. Eventually, I'll get to a point where it just can't find the classes specific to my application, which I certainly can't copy into $DOMAIN_HOME/lib.
    The first basic problem is that I can't put anything into a higher-level classloader that will eventually reference classes in a lower-level classloader, because references can only go up the chain, and the second problem is that WebLogic appears to ignore classes in WEB-INF/lib in the "javax.*" packages. I think there might be an exception for "javax.xml.*", but not for other subpackages. I tried adding a "prefer-application-packages" clause to my weblogic-application.xml file, but that had no effect.

  • Referencing files from classes

    Hi All,
    could someone help me out with the correct procedure to reference a file (not a java class) from a class? In my situation I have a directory structure for a web app of the form:
    /WEB-INF/my-config.xml
    /WEB-INF/classes/datautils/AppConfig.class
    (the two WEB-INFs being the same directory obviously)
    This structure could end up in any directory, depending on the arrangement of the webserver, or in a jar file for instance. AppConfig.class and my-config.xml will always have the same relative relationship.
    I want something like:
    File file = new File(***PathToFile***);
    In the AppConfig class, the problem is that ***PathToFile*** changes depending on where the app is installed and where its run from in the server.
    Is there a way of say finding out the path of the class AppConfig.class and then using that to construct the path to my-config.xml?
    Cheers
    Matt

    Thanks guys,
    a couple of issues though - first baddar:
    There are methods in the File API to tell me where a File is once I have located a reference to it. In my case I need to know where AppConfig.class is located before I can even find the file my-config.xml and set up a File object that wraps it. So those methods don't help me.
    akalex:
    That method works fine in if I am using these classes in a web app and have a Servlet context to use. I want a technique that doesn't rely on the Servlet api preferably. That way I can use the AppConfig.class in other situations. The name AppConfig.class doesn't sound like a class that would be used elsewhere I know, but in another situation I may have a general class I would like to set its behaviour with a file and use in other applications.
    So the question remains - is there anyway I can find out the path that a class is in when running any kind of Java app - not necessarily in a container, perhaps just on a JVM as a standalone app.
    thanks chaps
    matt

  • Referencing utility classes from a war file

    How do you reference a utility class from a war file? I tried adding the class to the deployment plan descriptor, however I still get a ClassNotFoundException.
    Thanks,
    Will

    To use the utility classes from a war you have to place them under the web-inf/classes directory.
    webApplication(WAR directory)--->WEB-INF--> classes (put your utility classes in this directory)

  • Javax.tools provider for javadoc

    When trying to use javax.tools.DocumentationTool in JDK8 builds, I had a null pointer exception.
    java.lang.NullPointerException at com.sun.tools.doclets.internal.toolkit.util.DocFile.createFileForOutput(DocFile.java:69)
    I think the reason is the following, given my context:
    1) I am using a custom class implementing JavaFileManager for providing Java sources files and trying to receive generated Javadoc.
    2) My instance of JavaFileManager is not an instance of StandardJavaFileManager (not File-based) nor of com.sun.tools.javac.nio.PathFileManager (non-public API).
    3) Then the method getting factory in com.sun.tools.doclets.internal.toolkit.util.DocFileFactory return null, causing the exception.
    Please see method: static synchronized DocFileFactory getFactory(Configuration configuration) {...}
    http://hg.openjdk.java.net/jdk8/tl/langtools/file/400a4e8accd3/src/share/classes/com/sun/tools/doclets/internal/toolkit/util/DocFileFactory.java
    Thanks,
    Gaja.

    Because posting code which is only executing a task is fully unuseful, cf.
    at com.sun.tools.javadoc.api.JavadocTaskImpl.call(JavadocTaskImpl.java:79)
    NB: I will post my problem as a bug to Oracle, given nobody seems to have already seen this problem.
    We're trying to help you.
    It may be 'unuseful' to you because you already know what it is. But it is SOMETHING in your code or your system that is driving the issue. Java code only executes when you call it and it is YOUR code that is calling it.
    We have NO way of knowing what that call in your code looks like. We also have NO way of knowing if the method you pointed to is what is really causing the exception:
    3) Then the method getting factory in com.sun.tools.doclets.internal.toolkit.util.DocFileFactory return null, causing the exception.
    There is NO mention of that class in the stack trace so how do you know that it is causing the exception?
    What I see in the trace is this:
        at com.sun.tools.doclets.internal.toolkit.util.DocFile.createFileForOutput(DocFile.java:69)
    And if you go to the source code that gimbal2 referenced you find this:
      67     /** Create a DocFile for a file that will be opened for writing. */
      68     public static DocFile createFileForOutput(Configuration configuration, DocPath path) {
      69         return DocFileFactory.getFactory(configuration).createFileForOutput(path);
      70     }
    The stack trace references line 69 and that means the exception could be from ANYTHING on that line.
      69         return DocFileFactory.getFactory(configuration).createFileForOutput(path);
    Since that line has multiple statements either statement could be the problem. It could be the getFactory(configuration)  method returning NULL as you mention or it could be the 'createFileForOutput(path)' method.
    Without seeing your code we have NO idea what values are being passed for 'configuration' or 'path' so we can't tell what code path will be taken in those methods.
           57         DocFileFactory f = factories.get(configuration);
           58         if (f == null) {
           59             JavaFileManager fm = configuration.getFileManager();
           60             if (fm instanceof StandardJavaFileManager)
           61                 f = new StandardDocFileFactory(configuration);
           62             else {
           63                 try {
           64                     Class<?> pathFileManagerClass =
           65                             Class.forName("com.sun.tools.javac.nio.PathFileManager");
           66                     if (pathFileManagerClass.isAssignableFrom(fm.getClass()))
           67                         f = new PathDocFileFactory(configuration);
           68                 } catch (Throwable t) {
           69                     throw new IllegalStateException(t);
           70                 }
           71             }
           72         }
           73         return f;
           74     }
    What is being passed for 'configuration'? If it is null then this line will probably raise that exception:
    JavaFileManager fm = configuration.getFilemanager();
    If it isn't null then this line will exceed or fail
    DocFileFactory f = factories.get(configuration);
    But if that succeeds 'f' is returned and this method doesn't cause a NULL exception. If it fails then the inner code is executed.
    That code is what is doing this
    if (fm instanceof StandardJavaFileManager)
    That is the class you mention in your thread but nothing from this code is in the stack trace.
    That leaves the 'path' parameter as the cause of the exception:
    createFileForOutput(path);
    We have no idea what value, if any, is being used for 'path'. What is the value of 'path'?
    You said you weren't using a file so maybe 'path' is null.
    That is why we asked to see your code.
    Good luck with your problem.

  • Failed to obtain/create connection from connection pool after redeploy

    I have a web application (.war) that uses a jdbc connection pool. The application works fine, however after I redeploy it using the administration console I get "Failed to obtain/create connection from connection pool [ Datavision_Pool ]. Reason : null" followed by "Error allocating connection : [Error in allocating a connection. Cause: null]" from javax.enterprise.resource.resourceadapter and I am forced to restart the instance. I am running Sun Java System Application Server 9.1 (build b58g-fcs)
    using a connection pool to a Microsoft SQL 2000 database using inet software's JDBC drivers. I need to be able to redeploy applications without having to restart the instance. Any help is appreciated.

    I have turned on some additional diagnostics and found out some answers and a work-around, but I think that there may be a bug in the way JDBC connection pool classes are loaded. The actual error was a null pointer in the JDBC driver class in the perpareStatement method. The only line in this method is "return factory.createPreparedStatement( this , sql );" and the only possible NPE would be if the factory was null, which should be impossible because it is a static variable and it is initialized when the class is loaded. The problem occurs because we deploy the JDBC driver .jar file within our .war file, for use when a client doesn't have or want to use connection pooling. Apparently, the connection pool must have picked up some of these classes and when the .war was redeployed, the reference to the factory was lost for existing connections (not sure how). If I remove the JDBC .jar file from the .war, it works, but that wasn't an ideal solution, the other way to get it to work was to change the sun-web.xml file to have <class-loader delegate="true">. We previously had it set to false in version 8.1 because of interference with a different version of the apache Tiles classes, which has now been addressed in version 9.1.
    I still think there is an issue, because the connection pool should never use the application specific classloaders. Am I wrong to believe this?

    Help appreciated, I'm lost here.
    Thanx
    Phil

    How do you do the Java equivalent of eval()?The language provides no support for that.
    Reflection lets you call any method, where you
    specify that method's name as a string and go through
    a few other steps to build the proper Method object
    with the proper args.
    (http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/reflect/) It
    won't let you just evaluate Java source code as a
    script interpreter though. To do that, see
    www.beanshell.org. Jython and I think Ruby on Rails
    also give you scriptingin Java. Jython uses Python's
    syntax, but gives you access to your Java classes. I
    don't know ayhthing about RoR.I am going to look up PHP/Java myself as I know no Python right offhand (but probably could learn it in about 10,000 years). Tried to figure out reflection but couldn't figure out how to do what in PHP we do like this:
    $msg = eval('JButton ' . $nameArray[$i][0] . ' = new JButton("' . $nameArray[$i][1] . '");');

  • XFIRE - Java class from wsdl and soap request from java class

    Hi,
    Firstly i'm newbie programmer with little experience, so please help me if u can.
    I have found an example on how to create java classes from WSDL under maven:
    (...)<taskdef classname="org.codehaus.xfire.gen.WsGenTask" name="wsgen">(...)
    I've created the below java class and I create new object of this class: UploadChunk up = new UploadChunk()
    and up.setSomething(123) etc....
    I have some service for which I have to prepare soap request manually - suitable for my service requests.
    I'm doing it using dom4j to create xml documents and i rewrite values to it from my variable up.
    I wonder if it is possible to do it automatically - I have UploadChunk object and I want do use xFire library somehow to produce ready or almost ready soap request. I want to do it in my code, no some ant or maven task.
    So I propably need a couple line of code, when I have:
    up.setSomething(123);
    //////CONVERTION - CAN U TELL ME HOW TO DO THAT PLEASE? I haven't found the way :( it seems I need your help.

    Hi,
    Can u Please post the WSDL..here. I remember long back i resolved this kind of issue...when i was getting "*parameters is already defined in - - -*" while using ClientGen.
    Once i will get the WSDL may be i can recall it...
    If u have any problem in Posting the WSDL..in Forums .. then let me know I will send my E-Mail Address...
    As far as i remember ..it usually happens when we Run ClientGen task of WLS81 ON the WebService/WSDL generated by WebLogic 9.x or Above. Please let me know if this is the Case with you as well... . I remember there is a Patch for it...for WLS8 ClientGen task...I dont remember the Patch Number Exactly.
    Just For testing:
    Just Use WLS9.x ClientGen task On the Same WSDL
    <taskdef name="clientgen" classname="weblogic.wsee.tools.anttasks.ClientGenTask" />
    I am sure you will not see this issue... because the issue is there only with WLS8 Clientgen...
    Thanks

  • Extracting specific detial about class from the JAVA API created by Javadoc

    hi ,
    Bacialy I need to get detials of all classes from the Java packages for my project. So i thought getting detials from the Java API document might be one way of doing it. If any one tell me some package or software which can get particulat text from the API document that will be great.
    Thank you,
    Raj

    Hi,
    I think, much easier way would be to write a little doclet. That doclet would take the information you need directly from the Doclet API and generate by it a plain text with the content you wish (for instance, as an SQL script that loads everything into a certain database).
    Obtaining this from the generated HTML documentation just adds one extra step (and a lot more complicated, by the way).
    Also, you can avoid even writing a doclet.
    There is a tool called DocFlex/Javadoc:
    http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_javadoc/
    It is a template-driven doclet, which can be easily programmed to do the job. (However, a license will be needed).
