Obviate synchronization via read-only Interfaces?

is this an acceptable way to share Collections across Threads :
public Interface BalanceBookInspector {
  public double getLargestUnpaidBill();
public class BalanceBook extends HashMap implements BalanceBookInspector {
  public double getLargestUnpaidBill() { .... }
public class ClassA {
  public static void main(String[] args) {
    BalanceBook bb = new BalanaceBook();
    Thread t1 = new Thread1((BalanceBook) bb);
    Thread t2 = new Thread2((BalanceBookInspector) bb);
t1 perform inserts / deletes / updates.
t2 is restricted to only read access via the BalanceBookInspector interface.
so, is that a thread-safe thing to do??
(it has worked ok so far).
btw: what i really want is a Map that:
(1) extends HashMap
(2) is a Collections.synchronizedMap()
i don't know the syntax and/or if its possible.

this is my best understanding of what's going on:
bb = new BalanaceBook()
bb points to an area in memory of the size of BalanceBook [not in synchronized wrapper]
bb view of that memory is BalanceBook .
HashMap hash = Collections.synchronizedMap(bb)
hash points to the area in memory that is also pointed to by bb (not a new object)
hash 's view of the memory is Map .
[but is that area in memory now in a synchronized wrapper? i have no idea]
Thread t1 = new Thread1(hash);
t1 is given the pointer hash .
Thread t2 = new Thread2((BalanceBookInspector) bb);
t2 is given the pointer bb that has had its view of the shared memory location
stripped down to the BalanceBookInspector interface.
pubilc class BalanceBook implements BalanceBookInspector {
}so, i really don't know whats going on there.
it sure feels like that the Collections.synchronizedMap() wrapper should be applied when
the Map memory is allocated...?

  • Can't get read-only access to my switches via http

    I set up a couple of users for read-only access to our switches via their web browsers. I set this up in Network Assistant. However when we try to log in, only a level 15 user is allowed to log in and there doesn't seem to be any way change this.
    I know in Network Assistant, you can choose which user level you want, but I don't see any way to do it via the web interface.
    What am I missing here?

    Implementing security within a switching environment is less intuitive than in a router. Switches, by design, tend to recognize only two levels of administrative access - user exec mode or privileged exec mode. Implementation of security at different access levels, level 15, etc, can be tricky and should be done at the command prompt, not in the GUI.
    You should reset your config and do not use Network Assistant for this purpose; it is "buggy."

  • NULL values are inserted into interface table for read only columns

    Hi, I developed a custom Integrator where some of the columns has to be displayed as read only in the layout. I am using SQL content to populate the data. When I upload the data NULL values are inserted into table interface? Is there any work around for this?
    Thanks

    Doesn't WebADI drive you insane at times?
    I must say, when it's all working it looks great and it is very user friendly (end-user that is, NOT for developers!) but before you get to that stage… please please Oracle invest some time making Web ADI a bit more logical an coherent, get the obvious bugs out, please let us not have to update BNE tables anymore to get things done.
    Anyway, I sorted this one out by setting the Width to zero (0) in the Layout. HTH.

  • Launch Adobe Reader for Android via Intent in Read-Only mode

    One issue I've bumped into recently with respect to launching Adobe Reader for Android via an ACTION_VIEW intent is that fillable forms can apparently always be filled and saved, thus modifying the original file.  That may be wonderful in many applications, but I have a situation where I would really not like users to be able to make any changes to the document (i.e. filling in fields and saving) at the current time.
    I am assuming that there is currently no Intent option to open a PDF in Adobe Reader in true read-only mode (preferably such that fillable fields wouldn't even be fillable).
    For now, I'll probably just have to point to a copy of the file, but it would be more convenient to have a handful of properly-documented options for launching read-only via an Intent.

    GoodReader ($4.99), ezPDF Reader ($2.99) and PDF Expert ($9.99) are well rated and support many more features.

  • Get read-only error when trying to create via CI

    I have created a component interface of the VCHR_EXPRESS component (along with the proper component fix for an initialization issue). I had VS generate a create_ex XML schema to be used by BizTalk (PS adapter) to create a new voucher. When I try to execute this create xml, I get a "psft.pt8.joa.JOAException: Property is read-only XXXXX" exception. The fields listed in the error log are empty in the XML instance (although the tags exist). For example, I get this error: psft.pt8.joa.JOAException: Property is read-only ADDRESS1_VNDR_1 (1,56). But in my xml instance it looks like this: <ns0:ADDRESS1_VNDR_1></ns0:ADDRESS1_VNDR_1>. There is no value so I'm not trying to set it. Could the error message mean I don't need this field period, i.e. remove it entirely?

    @icloud.com addresses are being rolled out over an unspecified period: you will get one without having to do anything, and it will be additional to your @me.com address. You will get a notification email when your account is updated. You will notice that the alias creation pane shows @icloud.com as the suffix - apparently new @me.com addresses cannot be created and I imagine you will have to wait until your account is upgraded before you can create an alias.

  • Creating a read-only JDBC interface?

    I'm facing a challenge providing ODBC for an in-memory Java application. There are commercial frameworks such as Simba and DataDirect but both involve extensive licensing and are too elaborate (given only read-only capability with basic single table querying required).
    Another option I'm investigating is to use an ODBC-JDBC bridge driver (such as provided by EasySoft) in combination with a bespoke JDBC connector. The question is, how complex is it to implement a SELECT-only JDBC driver to interface directly with a Java app? (And as extension, are there any libraries that can assisting in creating a JDBC driver?)
    Any ideas much appreciated,
    Lance

    As stated that is not possible.
    Read the following and then restate the question

    The bridge and any "ODBC" interface is going to interact with the ODBC shell and a ODBC driver (nothing to do with java.) You can't create a ODBC driver without creating a ODBC driver. Which would seem obvious.
    If you want to create a JDBC driver - which is not the same as an ODBC driver then you must implement the interfaces. Simple as that. That however requires that you must have some way to actually access the database.

  • Read Only Model via package protection and delegation

    I have a model that I have made read only to most client code by use of package protection and delegation.
    Changes are made to the model via a delegate inside the model's package (more precisely with a delegate that uses commands) .
    I am unhappy about the design for two reasons, 1. it is annoying to always have keep the delegate up to date with changes to the model 2. the package is getting very big and I would like to start splitting the packages up into say subpackages (package protection does not work with subpackages does it?).
    Does anyone have any suggestions how I could address these weaknesses in the design?
    thanks

    One way is to provide a copy to the client, the client could update their copy but only your copy would be the master.
    This way the client would use the same classes you do.
    Or you could generate the delegates from the model.

  • Read Only for "Group" and "Others" via SMB

    I see when Windows vista users of my OS X 10.5.8 server save a file to the server, the permissions show on the server as Read & Write for the owner and Read Only for 'Group' and 'Others'.
    Is there a way I can make the OS X server always make 'Group' and 'Others' always be Read & Write?
    Thanks!

    It's using a shared component LOV cleverly called LOV_YN which consists of a static LOV with
    1 Display=Yes, Return=Y
    2 Display=No, Return=N
    The settings in the LOV section on the item iteself:
    Named LOV: LOV_YN
    Display Extra values: No Dynamic translation: Not translated
    Number of columns: 2 Display null: No
    Null display value is blank as is null return value
    Item was setup as a radio group and was only converted over to a select list to work around this issue. Let me know what else you need and thanks again.

  • When users authenticate to read-only replica [ Identity synchronization]

    Hello,
    I have 2 sites: F and L. each site has a AD and LDAP. AD are replicated. LDAP are also replicated. Each one is the slave of the other. Idsync is installed on each site too.
    All users servers are located in F. so when a user authenticates for the 1st time or after password change, he will challenge LDAP in F and this one is read-only (slave). The user will get invalid password
    Whereas if I do for example ldapsearch + authentication on LDAP in L (this can't be done for users), the windows password gets updated in LDAP in L then LDAP in F (since F is a slave).
    do you a solution for that?
    thx

    hi,
    the replication is working between master and consumer:
    If I change an attribute in ldap A for a user in site A, the attribute is replicated to ldap in site B.
    If I change an attribute in ldap B for a user in site B, the attribute is replicated to ldap in site A.
    If I change an attribute in ldap A for a user in site B, I get an error that this is a read-only replica. OK.
    If I change an attribute in ldap B for a user in site A, I get an error that this is a read-only replica. OK.
    The password is getting updated in the consumer following a password change on the master.
    Where is the problem then? When a user in site A wants to change his password, his password is updated only in AD. ldap in site A (and IdSync) will not be aware of this change since the user in site A will login to servers (ldap clients) in site B and those servers are configured with ldap in site B. the ldap in site B is a slave for the subtree of users in site A. It stores then the password that is in ldap site A i.e. an invalid password.
    I imagine a solution where servers (ldap clients) are configured with both ldap servers so that if a user from site A logins, the ldap client challenges the ldap server in site A. is this feasible?
    any other solution?
    thank you,

  • Read only file system

    One of my Parabola installations has started to always mount the / partition read-only. I've booted into a different install on the same machine, and can mount the affected partition without problems. I've done a fsck, and run the SMART disk checks. No problems. I've been able to mount the partitions and chroot into them, but I don't know what to do from here. Oddly, I've discovered that 'ls' doesn't output anything, although bash completion seems to work ok.
    Any ideas on what I should do to get my system running again?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Is it possible to have access to PU12 in read only to avoid SOD issues?

    Hi
    We would like to provide PU12 to a small number of users for troubleshooting purposes with our payroll interface, however PU12 transaction is one that is a SOD issue, namely: 'Modify payroll master data and then process payroll.  Potential for fraudulent activity'
    Is there an equivalent read only transaction that SAP has to view the export history data possibly, or else a way to change the settings of PU12 to make it read only via a custom tcode?
    Any advice would be very helpful.
    Thanks
    Nicola

    Hi,
    Make the variant of the screen and provide the separate Tcode using SE93.

  • Read only access in MIIS

    Experts,
    How to provide read only access in MIIS?
    Thanks,
    Manohar

    Do you mean what MIIS security group needs to be added? If yes, then MIISBrowse sounds the one. You can find more from Technet:
    MIISAdmins - Members of this group have full access to Identity Manager.
    MIISBrowse - Members of this group are granted permission to gather user information through the use of Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) queries.
    MIISJoiners - Members of this group can perform metaverse search operations in Identity Manager and can perform join and disconnect operations.
    MIISOperators - Members of this group can run management agents, view synchronization statistics and save run histories.
    MIISPasswordSet - Members of this group can perform all operations using the password management interface with WMI. This group also inherits the permissions of
    MIISBrowse.

  • SL Read Only Group Calendars in iCal?

    We've been using the wiki-based group calendars for a bit with SSL and/or Kerberos AD logins. Now I have a request that:
    *Only some people can read.
    *Only some people can read/write.
    *Using AD credentials (Win2k8)
    *All via iCal on 10.5
    I found how to set users/groups to Read Only in the Wiki interface, but when that happens, it never takes the login credentials. When used as an account(http://servername:8008/principals/wikis/groupname/), it won't take. When used via Subscribe to Calendar (webcal://servername:8008/calendars/_uids_/wiki-groupname/calendar) it won't take. (The subscribe info comes from the wiki interface "i" box.)
    What am I missing here?

    No, at the time I am writing this the topic is not answered. Simply applying the 10.5.6 combo update did not work for me when I had this problem.
    This did NOT work either - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1906?viewlocale=en_US.
    This is what worked:
    0) make sure both iCal and Mail are closed, and it might not be a bad idea to temporarily shut off any syncing software you may have active
    1) start with the calendar folders from Tiger that are located in Users/{yourusername}/Library/Application Support/iCal/Sources, the ones with crazy names like "2E28E612-467E-4981-975E-D07A31AC39C4.calendar" which contain files" called "corestorage.ics," "Index," and "info.plist"; if "all" you have is an iCal backup library (.icbu file), then you can go to a Tiger machine, restore to that iCal, and then take the above calendar folders from it
    2) copy the calendar folders to the desktop of your Leopard machine
    3) read this thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1196389&tstart=0) down to the posts by Thierry Girard
    4) do what he says with the text editor, but you can use TextEdit, and look for either the SEQUENCE:-1 or the PRIORITY:-1. Set either one to just 1 (remove the negative sign); I had some value related to a MICROSOFT this or that, and I did not change it at all.
    5) take the edited calendar folders from your desktop and move them into /Users/{yourusername}/Library/Calendars
    6) start up iCal; at this point, I was in business
    I hope this is helpful.

    Hi,
    I am also trying to create an account so that we can provide read only access to the GUI.

    It may not be possible but if anyone know that would be great.

  • DSplugin psw on read-only replica

    I am running a Directory Server 6.3 which is a master to 2 read-only consumers (one is DS 6.3, one is DS 5.2). Replication is working to both consumers.
    On the master server, I have ISW for Windows 6.0.
    I am able to sync passwords from AD to the master DS. That is working fine. When a user changes their password in AD; then authenticates against the master DS server, the new password is pulled from AD.
    I am having trouble when a password is changed on AD and the user tries to authenticate to the read-only replia. They get an Authentication error. I think I have the DS plugin installed on both of my read-only servers. I can not figure out why they won't send the request to the master server to get the password from AD. pswvalidate does get set to True.
    My master server has 2 interfaces (master-if1 and master-if2) and the 6.3 readonly replica can only reach master-if2.

    Is there any experience in an environment with a master DS (6.3) server, read-only consumer servers and Identity Synchronization for Windows?
    I am not able to get authentication queries to my ro consumers to poll the master DS which in turns pulls the new password from AD.
