OC4J 9.0.4, JAX-RPC, AXIS Client Stub

Hi All,
I have hit a problem and am wondering if anybody has any pointers :
* I have a Webservice running on OC4J 10.1.2 Standalone.
* I have generated Java client stubs by pointing to this webservice using the wsdl2java tool from Apache Axis and can use these generated classes without any problems outside any web containers.
* I have created a jsp that calls these classes and can run this within the embedded server of Jdeveloper 9.0.5.2
However...
When I deploy the ear file containing this jsp into a 9.0.4 OC4J standalone / or full install and run the same jsp I am getting the following exception :

Can anybody let me know what I need to do. Is there anyway that I can get this Apache client code (which uses jax-rpc) working within OC4J 9.0.4. I know the limitations of 9.0.4 and Jax-rpc - but I am wondering if anybody has a nice note to work around it.
Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Richard, the error message you see below indicates that the JVM can not recognize your class file.
java.lang.ClassFormatError: com/abc/mypackage/MyApplicationBindingStub (Illegal Field name "array$[B")
Are you using different java version to run wsdljava and OC4J? Can you try using the same version of java for both of them?

We are planning to expose some of J2EE applications as web service. It is based on JAX-RPC 1.0. I have checked it with Apache-Axis without changing any code and it worked. Will it work in OC4J without any code changes?
1. Does OC4J or Oracle SOAP server supports(or implements) JAX-RPC?
2. Do we need to change any code?

Right now we have a JAX-RPC 1.1 with JSR 109 support preview here on OTN at - this came out at OracleWorld:

The target production date is summer 2004. There are also plans to do another drop of this preview with updated support later this year and possibly again before the production release.
We have quite a lot of functionality that we are targetting to flesh out our Web services support in the areas of reliability, orchestration, transactions and security.

We have some web services that run under OC4J 10.1.3.4. We have various JEE 'client' apps (JSF, servlets etc.) that use these web services. These JEE apps also run under OC4J.
We started a migration project from oc4j to weblogic 10.3.2. In phase 1 we want to move these JEE 'client' apps to weblogic. In phase 2 we want to move the web services themselves to weblogic with adjustments to the JEE 'client' apps as needed.
However we ran into an issue during this phase 1. Deploying these JEE 'client' apps to weblogic results in an error like this:
java.lang.Error: JAX-RPC 1.1 method is not supported in WLS 8.1 clients. If you are attempting to run an OC4J 10.1.3 JAX-RPC client in WLS, please see the Web Service Migration Guide for instructions.
We are including Oracle web services client libraries (http://download.oracle.com/otn/java/oc4j/1013/wsclient_extended.zip) in these JEE 'client' apps's war files because weblogic does not have them.
What part of Web Service Migration Guide is the above error message talking about? Do we have to re-generate the client side proxies for all these web services using weblogic's clientgen task in 'JAXRPC' mode? Many of these web services are doc/literal jax-rpc web services. Or does the migration guide recommend we migrate the web services first to weblogic? Any other specific information on working around this error message would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I had the same issue but I just managed to fix it. You must upgrade and/or regenerate you proxy. This creates new classes (possibily in a new package) that you must use in your code. I had this error because the classes directory was not clean after the rebuild and the old classes (in the old package) were still present, so the compilation was successful with the old classes. So clean your classes directories, regenerate your proxy and use the new classes in your code.

I am using Jdeveloper 11g and migrating a web Service Proxy created using jdeveloper 10g.
I imported all the proxy classes and when I try to run web service client In Jdeveloper 11g I get the following error
"JAX-RPC 1.1 method is not supported in WLS 8.1 clients. If you are attempting to run an OC4J 10.1.3 JAX-RPC client in WLS, please see the Web Service Migration Guide for instructions."
Please advise on how to solve this?
which is the offending jar/library file in Jdeveloper 11g which is causing the above error?.
Is the above problem there in the WebLogic Server Runtime also?

2) I cannot generate web server proxies also with jdev11g because the wsdl has overloaded methods omitting the name property within the input and output message, ie, they have a null name. therefore Jdeveloper 11g is using the library which
when called with an overloaded operation that contains null input/output message names, a duplicate error occurs because it sees other operations with the same name. so it is effectively not allowing to create the web service proxies.

I have used web service proxy for BIPublisher 10.1.3.4 , careated by jdeveloper web service proxy wizard , when I want using it in weblogic , In corresponding form that uses BI Publisher web service proxy , I encounter following error :
"JAX-RPC 1.1 method is not supported in WLS 8.1 clients , if you attempting to run oc4j 10.1.3 JAX-RPC client in WLS,please see Web service Migration Guide for Instructions"
What should I do?

Spoke to dev and there was a bug logged, it seems to be down to Weblogic's implementation.
+This is pure WLS issue. The root cause of this problem is that Weblogic's
SAAJ implementation. No codechange on BIP server side
WLS 10 ships with two SAAJ implementations. By default the buggy 9.x
implementation is used (which lives in the package
weblogic.webservice.core.soap), but there is a new implementation, which
supports SAAJ 1.3 (which lives in the package weblogic.xml.saaj). I also
checked in a debugging jsp page, which could help looking at the DEBUG
logging to see which SAAJ implementation is used.

To use this new version, you have to make sure setting the
-Djavax.xml.soap.MessageFactory=weblogic.xml.saaj.MessageFactoryImpl

JAX-RPC and (not versus) JAX-WS

hi all!
I know (after some reading on java.net and java.sun.com) that JAX-RPC and JAX-WS are incompatible versions of the same underlying idea.
But i read on JAX-WS FAQ at java.net that:
JAX-WS and a JAX-RPC based service CAN co-exist
... now this is a little confusing for me. Does this mean that a server can have two web services deployed; one coded with JAX-WS and other with JAX-RPC... OR... does that mean that i can code a webservice using JAX-WS and a JAX-RPC based client can invoke that webservice.???
Because if the second thing is true, then it is really cool (and would be reason of simplifying things for me).

I find that working with Axis and it's tools (wsdl2java) is easier than working with Oracle's SOAP implementation(webservicesassembler.jar).
One advantadge of using oracle's solution is that ws that
returns an Element type does not need a custom deserializer and Axis needs.
Which more advantages do you think oracle's solution has?
Why should we use jDev10's JAX/RPC web services?

The first thing is you should really say "JAX-RPC vs AXIS", since both of them are Web Services Runtime/Development APIs. And Jdeveloper is just a tools that simnplifies the development and developmen of Web Services using JAX-RPC.
So what about JAX-RPC vs Axis?
I would say that Axis is/was a de-facto standard fro developing WS, since it is running in most of the application servers - OracleAS 10g included-. Where JAX-RPC is the standard defines by the Java Community Process (JCP) and is a mandatory features of J2EE 1.4 specifications. So by using JAX-RPC you will be able to use a set of API that are really standard based. Also as part of your decision you should take a look in more details about the services provided by JAX-RPC: http://java.sun.com/xml/jaxrpc/index.jsp and the different standards involved.
Also I think that one important thing to take in consideration when you will make your decision is the future of Axis as we know it today release 1.0 If you see the Axis 2.0 Web site, it says that:
"Axis2 is an effort to re-design and totally re-implement both Axis/Java and (eventually) Axis/C++ on a new architecture."
Other considerations:
Some of the important things to watch when you select your framework are also related to:
- how you can interop with other framework (consuming or providing a service that is created with another stack)
- how to handle attachement (size, types, performances, ..)
When you will start to use Web Services in your system you may need to add different quality of services for example adding security (authentication, encryption, ...) or reliability (how I can be sure that my response has been received by my client application)
All the Web Service Management (security, reliability, etc etc) is not currently well integrated in the Axis stack, so you will have to use a third party solution to have this type of features. (you can for example use Oracle Web Services Manager for that purpose)
All these, and more, are more than just the 'SOAP' stack.

URGENT **** Need help for JAX-RPC Web Service Proxy deploy to OC4J 10.1.3.5

I’m really new to web services.
I’m getting a *500 internal server error* while deploying my JAX-RPC web service Proxy to an Oracle AS, in an OC4J, v. 10.1.3.5.0.
Running my client from my development environment (*jdeveloper 10g, 10.1.3.5.0*) everything functions correctly: from jdeveloper I can contact and use the web service defined by the following endpoint: https://www.medialibrary.it/services/federaMLOL.asmx?WSDL
I created a "try_ws_client.jsp" file that runs correctly from my local development environment jdeveloper (that uses an embedded oc4j, v. 10.1.3.5.0) but fails when run from the test server (Oracle AS, in an OC4J, v. 10.1.3.5.0), getting, as I mentioned a 500 internal server error, a white page in IE but with FF the message says: The’s an error in the servlet .....
Here's how I created the ws proxy and how I’m using it to consume the ws I mentioned.
1. I used the jdeveloper “Create Web Service Proxy” wizard (File > New > Business Tier > Web Services > Web Service Prox) and in the WSDL document URL I put: https://www.medialibrary.it/services/federaMLOL.asmx?WSDL
2. The operation ended without adding nothing to the web.xml file and creating the proxy files. One of them is: FederaMLOLSoapClient.java that have the WS exposed methods (es: public boolean createUser(String) ) + a “main” method with the example how to use this client to consume the WS.

The situation is:
My try_ws_client.jsp runs correctly from my jdeveloper and the user is created while creating app.ear and deploying it to my Oracle AS/OC4J as mentioned above, I get a 500 Internal Server Error.
Any idea to find a solution to this problem?

JAX-RPC Dynamic Proxy Client Question

I have a very simple web service successfully deployed using Tomcat 5 and Apache Axis. It simply takes a string and returns a String. Regardless, it's working.
Now I'm wanting to create a JAX-RPC dynamic proxy client as described on the following page:

There are numerous other articles out there describing the same method.
My problem is that I'm getting a ServiceException on the following line every time I try to run my client:
ServiceFactory factory = ServiceFactory.newInstance();
Would anyone have any ideas why this might be or what I might be missing? All the articles make it seem like this is just a trivial line and never mention much about it.

JAX-RPC Web services client error

I use Jdevelop 10g 9.0.5.2 with JAX-RPC extension and OC4J 10.1.3.
I can develop RPC/literal and document/literal Web services, but when I try to run a client program I've got this error.
"Error: cannot access class oracle.j2ee.ws.saaj.soap.Constants; file oracle\j2ee\ws\saaj\soap\Constants.class not found"

After creating a .war with deploytool, I try to deploy it to a OC4J that comes with JDev.
It result in an exception saying the Servlet is not a Servlet. Wich is true.
Do you know how to deploy this .war to an OC4J? (read IAS 9.0.3)

Currently we use Oracle10G 10.0.3 developer preview edition. we deployed same web service on both JAX-RPC platfrom and OC4J J2EE web service platfrom (RPC encoding style). We found that old platform seems to perform better than JAx-RPC platfrom with regard to serialization and de-serialzation. We also did the test on Doc/literal style in JAX-RPC platfrom and its performance is not as good as the one deployed on old platform. We understand JAX-RPC is new implementation and Oracle10.0.3 is under developer preview edition and so it may not be optimized. We have following questions
1. Is this a known issue in JAX-RPC platform?
2. Is there anyway to optimize JAX-RPC web service? Like using different XMl parser (instead of Oracle XML parser)
3. When is the final release of 10.0.3 expected?
4. Will Oracle be supporting old web service platfrom (OC4J J2EE web service platform)? If so how long?

Jax-RPC Client side: How to use multiple X509 client certs ?

i'm looking for an answer to this question:
I'm using the JAX-RPC libraries (JWSDP 2.0) for a web services client application in my app server (tomcat 4 under 1.4 Sun JVM) with HTTPS connection. All works fine when i'm using system.Setproperties for keystore and trustore.
Buk now, I want to use different client SSL keys for the same app to consume the web service (one SSL client key for a group of users).
Is it possible ?
i've tried using custom SSLSocketFactory and custom KeyManager but it won't works: when the SSL connection is well established once, i can connect to the app with an invalide client cert ! (it seems SSL connection is in cache and i dont't know how to disable this cache).

XML Parser Error while creating Web service Client using JAX RPC

Im facing XML Parser Error while creating web service client using JAX RPC. Im using Net Beans IDE for development purpose. I have wrote configuration file for client. Now i want to create Client stub. However i dont know how to do this in Net Beans. So i tried to do it from Command promt using command :

JAX-RPC: Web service where both server /and/ client are services?

I'm considering a two-way Web service in an application that I'm designing and would appreciate any insight from prior experience.
This will be a standard client-server application, where the server broadcasts messages and the client, in turn, can request further information about the messages that it receives (think RSS-style updates, but with more interaction). [strong]However[strong], instead of having the client poll the server for new messages, I'd like to have the client register itself with the server as a message listener. The server is currently implemented as a Web service on port X. I'd like the client to register itself with the server, and then receive messages on port Y.
I'm considering a design like the following (note the directions of the inheritance arrows):

* In both cases, the client and server are broken out into an interface and two classes. The non-Remote classes implement all of the functionality. The RemoteX interfaces declare the methods that will be exposed via RPC, and the RemoteXImpl classes are empty subclasses of the non-Remote classes.
* In order to register itself with the Server, the Listener must be passed in as a method parameter, and thus conform to the JAX-RPC specification for value types. However, value types can't implement java.rmi.Remote.
* Only the Server and Listener know anything about each other.
* This application can be run either remotely or locally, depending on how the Server and Listener are instantiated. For the latter, they're instantiated directly and the listener is registered with the Server. For the latter, the RemoteX interfaces will point to the service stubs.
* I don't see an easy way to allow both the Server and the Listener to have references to each other (at least now without some casting magic), since one of them will have to conform to the value type specification, which requires that all of its fields must be valid JAX-RPC types.
I've got the Server portions implemented and working, and am now going to turn to the Listener stuff. Can anybody see a fundamental problem with this design, or can suggest something better?

Because web services are fundamentally a Services-oriented architecture, and not an Object-oriented one, you are unable to pass objects by reference (only by value) hence the design decision to not allow rmi.Remote objects to be sent across the wire. The best way would be to abstract an object which does itself not represent a server, but a route to a server (lets call it ServerPointer). This must contain address, port, service info, etc.
Now, in your Server class, create a factory method which takes a ServerPointer, and returns a reference to a
remote server, e.g. protected Server createServer( ServerPointer p ) (using the necessary APIs to get such a reference)

JAX-RPC client access a JAX-WS services

There is a little problem I had with webservices and googling for a solution has not help so far.
I am accessing a JAX-WS webservice from a J2SE 1.4.2 JAX-RPC client application and getting a NoSuchMethodError error from one of the stubs at runtime. The method call is rather a HelloWorld concept but it has not been possible.
This are the step I took (I am using netbeans 6.0).
1. I downloaded the JAX-RPC plugin on netbeans
2. Download the stubs using the wsdl url. I am using the netbeans wizard for this process.
3. Write my code for get a handle to the endpoint. Using the ServiceFactory.loadClass().
