OCS server disk space is getting occupied automatically

Hi All,
I was observing my OCS server (10.1.2.3.0)
Even when the system is idle also i can find the disk space is getting used
I had faced the problem twice like, the total diskspace (100%) has been used
Please observe the following (this is a test instance), see the /d01 disk space:

/d01 is the location where i installed the OCS
Is this a problem coz of the database configuration.. when it reaches the 100% usage, then it wont allow any new connections to the database.
I feel like this may damage the application
Anybody has any idea about why this is happening..???
Please update ....
Best Regards and Many Thanks in Advance...!!!,
Prasant

Hi,
Many Thanks for your update..
Answering to your queries..
1. I am not copying data
2. The database is not in ARCHIVELOG mode
3. I can find the following location files are getting updated continuously
$ORACLE_HOME/network/log/sqlnet.log (infra Home) (File size : 28672 KB)
$ORACLE_HOME/network/log/listener.log (infra Home) (this file size is 1057443840 KB)
$ORACLE_HOME/sqlnet.log (infra Home) (File Size: 1306624 KB)
$ORACLE_HOME/network/log/sqlnet.log (apps Home) (File Size: 2789376 KB)
well as well as how can i regain my free spaces.. it had around 15GB free space available before..!!
So what can i do to rectify this ...
Awaiting your response...
Best Regards....

    Hi All,

If you are seeing daily increases and decrease in your disk utilization (for example it increases during the day/overnaight but in the morning the disk space has recovered what you are seeing is the impact of Tar optimization.
The Tar Persistence manager is the underlying storage mechanism for CRX. Data is stored in append only tar files. This means the when you update a node or property the new values are written to the Tar files, the indexes are updated to point to the new location, but the old data is also still left in the file. This mechanism allows for a much faster write mechanism. So the more you frequently you update existing content in your repository the larger you Tar files becomes.
There is a process called Tar File Optimization that by default is scheduled to run from 2 AM to 5 AM server time. This process identifies all the orphaned data in the Tar files and deletes, there by reducing the size of the tar files on disk.
So if you are in heavy content migration mode, or moving large amounts of content between instances you can see large swings in your disk space utilization as the Tar file balloons up during the day and then shrinks back down over night. In some cases depending on how large your repository is the 3 hours allotted by default is not sufficent to complete the optimizaiton so you may not be recovering all your disk space. During normal production operations this will normally average out over time and the 3 hour window is enough. However during periods of heavy usage, especially during QA or content migration you may find that your tar files are ever increasing in size. If that happens you need pick a period of time over say a weekend and trigger the Tar File optimization to run until complete to recover as much of your disk space as possible.
See http://helpx.adobe.com/crx/kb/TarPMOptimization.html for details on Tar File Optimization.
As someone else pointed out you may also have an issue with your data store which requires a different clean up method.
Another possible culprit is your Lucene index files. Depending on your data model and repository size you can swings in your Lucene indexes because like the Tar File it periodically cleans itself up and large amounts of content change can cause this cycle to become more pronounced.
This blog post dicusses in more deapth both Tar File Optimization and Data Store garbage collection. http://blog.aemarchitect.com/2013/06/17/importance-of-aem-maintenance-procedures-for-non-p roduction-boxes/

  • Syslog Server Disk Space with ASA5510

    Hi,
i'm about to configure a syslog server to receive syslog messages from a Cisco ASA5510 and being it a one week test I was wondering how much space should I allocate on the machine hosting the tool (kiwi syslog).
I see that the ASA fills the internal syslog buffer to 4MB and then it overrides it. How many messages would those 4MB be?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hello,
I copied 30 messages off my firewall into a text file and it's a little over 3 KB in size (which averages out to about 100 bytes per message). That means that 4 MB would be about 40,000 messages. As a side note, the ASA's maximum local buffer size is about 1 MB, rather than 4 MB.
How much disk space you should allocate for log storage will depend greatly on what level of syslogging you're doing, how much traffic the firewall sees, and how long you want to keep the logs for. Hopefully the above numbers will give you a rough idea of a baseline that you can expand on to meet your requirements.
    Hope that helps.
    -Mike

  • Disk space in Get Info

The Get Info page tells me I have 1.74 Gb of space left on my 75 Gb drive. In trying to decide what to trash, I looked at the sizes of my individual files/folders. These add up to only 40 Gb. Now, I thought that Mac OS X is supposed to defrag files on the fly, so where has all my supposed free space gone?

Fragmentation has nothing to do with your problem. Your problem is you have too much data stored on your hard drive. That's where your free space has gone. You can use a untility like GrandPerspective to array your files and folders based on size to try and see what you have that's taking up space. But before you start deleting things just take a warning: stay out of the /System/ and /Library/ folders. Deleting from there will only cause OS X to stop working. Here are some maintenance tips:
Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility. For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. TechTool Pro provides additional repair options including file repair and recovery, system diagnostics, and disk defragmentation. TechTool Pro 4.5.1 or higher are Intel Mac compatible; Drive Genius is similar to TechTool Pro in terms of the various repair services provided. Versions 1.5.1 or later are Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep. Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts had been significantly reduced in Tiger and Leopard.
OS X automatically defrags files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems.
I would also recommend downloading the shareware utility TinkerTool System that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old logfiles and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the commandline. Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial - not yet universal binary)
    2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
    3. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
    4. Deja Vu (Shareware)
    5. Carbon Copy Cloner (Donationware)
    6. SuperDuper! (Commercial)
    7. Intego Personal Backup (Commercial)
    8. Data Backup (Commercial)
    9. SilverKeeper 2.0 (Freeware)
    10. MimMac (Commercial)
    11. CloneTool Hatchery (Shareware)
    12. Clone X (Commercial)
The following utilities can also be used for backup, but cannot create bootable clones:
    1. Backup (requires a .Mac account with Apple both to get the software and to use it.)
    2. Toast
    3. Impression
    4. arRSync
Apple's Backup is a full backup tool capable of also backing up across multiple media such as CD/DVD. However, it cannot create bootable backups. It is primarily an "archiving" utility as are the other two.
Impression and Toast are disk image based backups, only. Particularly useful if you need to backup to CD/DVD across multiple media.
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac Maintenance Quick Assist.

    Hi,

    How can this be?
    Please help. thanks

  • My MBP said my disk space was getting full. I made space and 2 hours later it notified me it was almost full again. I deleted more files and now I can literally see space disappear from my Finder. How is this happening and where is it going?!!!

    Please HELP ME!
I'm not sure WTH is going on, and it's frustrating the crap out of me.
I don't have any external drives connected, and I've never had this problem before.
***NOTE: suddenly now it's showing that I have 30gb+ free. WTH just happened?!***

Time Machine is having fun with you.....
Seriously, if you check the Time Machine configuration in System Preferences, you will probably find that it is taking snapshots of the disk drive. Since those take up space, and old ones get deleted, that would explain what's going on.

Chances are good that your internal optical drive has failed.
The slot loading optical drives that Apple uses in their computers is not of high quality and their reliability varies throughout different Mac computer models.
Not all optical drives are Mac compatible.
Most Mac compatible drives you will only find to be purchased online.
Here are two on Amazon.com that are cheap and Mac compatible

  • Prevent automatic removal of the Spotlight index due to low disk space

I am guessing that when disk space runs low, it automatically deletes the Spotlight index to make room for virtual memory. Then when space becomes available it reindexes. But I'm not sure about that.
Since my MacBook Air SSD is only 128 GB, I often work with little free disk space and the re-indexing drives me crazy.
I tried to disable Spotlight, remove its index and reindex. Also check filesystem and repair permissions. In diagnostic reports (~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/) nothing about reindexing is mentioned.
You can say that I should control the amount of free space but also should be another way. Disabling Spotlight isn't the option.
    Crosspost: http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/37321/prevent-automatic-removal-of-the- spotlight-index-due-to-low-disk-space

You can say that I should control the amount of free space .....
    Then I will
See if you have Time Machine Local Backups taking up space, and turn it off with:
         sudo tmutil disablelocal
Also consider turning off hibernate mode
I am guessing that when disk space runs low, it automatically deletes the Spotlight index to make room for virtual memory. Then when space becomes available it reindexes. But I'm not sure about that.
Not sure if that's the case, but low disk space can be causing issues.  What % of your HD is free?

  • Archivelog mode ans disk space

    Hi,
when we are in archive log mode, how disk space would be occupied ? Where the archive files would be put ? How the disk space can be controlled and managed ?
    many thanks before.

    1. how disk space would be occupied ?
It depends, mostly of your redo log size and amount of transactions you are going to have.
Where the archive files would be put
I assume you are not going to transfer these archive logs to a standby database.
If you don't use flash recovery area for this purpose then you have to specify location in log_archive_dest_n parameters.
If you use flash recovery area, then by default archive logs will be saved at destination specified in db_recovery_file_dest parameter.
How the disk space can be controlled and managed ?
Can you be more specific on this one?

  • Tempro v2 - changing threshold for disk space alert

    Hello,
I have downloaded and installed Tempro v2 on a Satellite A200. It is running fine.
However, tempro has a problem that was present on the version 1.x .
The low disk space alert is set to trigger, way, way too early at 25% disk space left on any partition. On a modern disk this is around 15GB. This is way , way too early to be told of a problem. I have swiched off this alert - which I don't want to do. There seems to be no way (that I can find) to set this alert to trigger at a more sensible value - say 10% disk space left or a given amount of disk space left - say 2GB.
Is there a fix for this or have I missed how to set this value as I don't want to run without knowing I am running low on disk space? Getting this alert at 25% is irritating.
    Thanks
    Clive

    Hi
I dont think that you could change this value or settings
Tempro sends the notifications about the status of the whole HDD and therefore you have received this message.
Ive got this tool on my notebook too but didnt find any settings which would help to disable the notification about single partitions on the HDD

  • Disk space vanishing, other strange behavior

In the last two days TechTool has been announcing that my free disk space is getting low. Started at 15%, but it keeps dropping down to 1%. I've deleted about 100GB of data in the last two days, but it isn't helping.
Checked my log files which aren't ridculously big. None of my processes are using a fraction of the 160GB+ it shows as being allocated to VM. Some strange log entries in console related to MacHelper, but I don't think I ever installed it. Ran an uninstaller just in case.
Prior to this happening some other odd things have been happening for a week or so:
External drives aren't dismounting correctly. Click eject and the name remains grayed out and if I unplug the drive I get chided for removing a drive.
System hangs and requires forced restart. Hangs during restart on the desktop image.
Had some trouble with an external e-sata drive dismounting all the time using the card slot adaptor for e-Sata. Card would get extremely hot. Used FW800 but had strange behavior with 5 additional drives reminiscent of SCSI. Once I changed the cables around it stopped doing this.

You may not have gotten all of MacKeeper. From an earlier post of mine:
I'd search for it using EasyFind. Enter "MacKeeper" and "Zeobit." Set EF to scan all files and folders, invisible, case insensitive, package contents. Search using boolean and phrase. It will probably do a more thorough job than Spotlight. If you can't "Destroy" from EF, use Reveal in Finder to trash and authenticate from there.
It is also known to install a Windows emulator called "wine;" search for that.
Also, look in the Keychain for anything MacKeeper or zeobit related, and for its cookies in your browser. When finished, empty the Trash and restart.

Somehow, as BDAqua suggested, I'm still suspecting it's the logs filling up with a constantly repeating message. Are there any other Users? Can you log in to those and see what's going on with those logs?
Permissons repair has nothing to do with this.
Get OmniDisk Sweeper. Run it logged in to all your users.

  • Disk Space and unscanned files

I have a t400 with 141 Gig drive running xp sp3 and there is 60GBs in "unscanned" (according to the Lenovo tool set) being consumed. I have deleted all but the most recent restore, reduced the back up space all to no avail. Any one have any suggestions? When one looks at the C: drive under properties, it indicates 125GB is being used, but when you check the properties under each folder, it comes up to a total of about 60GB, which seems to indicate the the 60gb is being used but not buy something that is accounted for in the folders. This is a single user machine, all the hidden files are supposed to be exposed and I am at a loss to know what is going on here.
Also pretty annoyed that Lenovo would give you a tool that doesn't allow you to address the problem it can identify. Thanks

When you say "most recent restore" are you referring to Windows restore points, or to rescue and recovery backup images?
The usual answer to "where has my disk space gone" is that automatic backup images are taking up most of the missing space.  Fire up rescue and recovery and take a look at your advanced settings and existing backups.
The R&R folder us usually hiden, so it would show up or not pretty much as you describe.
    If I've misunderstood, never mind...
[edit] I must have misunderstood.  Googling "thinkpad missing drive space" turns up pages of links about R&R eating space.  Sorry.  Please feed me/us a little more detail and I/we will try again.

  • How to find out disk space?

I know two ways to get some information about HD space. One is to Control-click on Mac HD and select Get Info. A dialog is displayed with detail information which contain Capacity, Available and Used numbers in GB.
Another way is to use Terminal with command df -lhg. This command displays similar information. However, by using command, the numbers I get are less than those in Get Info. They are not the same. Not sure if my command is correct or not. If not, what is the correct command to get disk space information?

Great! I will not need to worry about to reset the BLOCKSIZE back to the default value.
One thing interesting. Before I installed the Snow Leopard, I checked my disk space with Get Info. My HD available space was about 466GB. After the OS update, Get Info shows the capacity as 499GB. I thought that I got 30GB more space back. Actually, today I realize that the Get Info value of the pre-OS as based on the binary decimal, and the Get Info value of the Snow Leopard is 10-based decimal! This explains my question about my question of the difference of the Get Info value and the value of command "df -lhg"! "df -lHg" shows the same result, which is 10-based decimal value! I actually did no get more than 30GB disk space.

  • Receiving an automatic notification from Windows Server when disk space is low

    Hello,<o:p></o:p>
Does Windows Server 2012 R2 have any such functionality built-in to enable monitoring of disk space?
We have an old VB Script file that sends me an email when disk space gets low.
Also, the following post discusses the topic regarding Windows Server 2008:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/c9878861-6ba5-4d3b-b6b0-6e4b33c41853/notification-when-low-disk-space?forum=windowsserver2008r2management
I was wondering if there was any change regarding this in
    Windows Server 2012 R2 .
    Many thanks.<o:p></o:p>

    Hi,
Windows Server 2012 stays the same on that topic, you still need some kind of monitoring on your disk space.
If you don't have a monitoring solution, like for example SCOM, you can for example with powershell do what you earlier did in VB script. Either you have a scheduled task that runs as often as you'd like, or you can utilize something called WMI eventing
to trigger on an event 'disk low' but thats a bit more complicated.
See below examples on some example scripts that you could use.
