ODBC : Link sql developper with MS access

Hi ,
I would like to link tables from Oracle SQL Developer 1.5.4 to Ms access (2003) with ODBC.
Could you please explain me all the steps must be followed?
Thanks in advance
Regards
Lamine

Please review this Access Migration page on OTN. Lower down on that page are links to demonstrations on making an MS Access connection.
Please note, SQL Developer 1.5.4 is an older version of the software. The current production release is SQL Developer 2.1.1 and there are new early adopter releases of SQL Developer 3.0.

  • SQL Query with MS-Access Database

    Hi,
    I have linked my oracle database with MS-Access via a DB LINK. i can access the data from MS-ACCESS, but i have a problem that when i specify the column name or define a where clause in my query it gives me the error ORA-00904: invalid identfier ..
    This query fetch the data without any problem SELECT * FROM TBLREPORT@M_ACCESS but when i run SELECT EMP_ID FROM TBLREPORT@M_ACCESS it gives me the error i mentioned above. (Column name have No problem or mistake of spelling even CASE)
    also when i try to put where clause in the query it gives me same error SELECT * FROM TBLREPORT@M_ACCESS WHERE EMP_ID = '100' (Error)
    is there any change in SQL query for ACCESS database ??
    any clue
    Regards
    Rehman

    Are column/table names in access case sensitive? Issue
    DESC TBLREPORT@M_ACCESS If column EMP_ID actual name shows up in mixed/lower case, enclose it in double quotes and use the exact case. E.g., if column name shows up as Emp_Id, use:
    SELECT "Emp_Id" FROM TBLREPORT@M_ACCESSSY.

    Creator might not support MS Access yet but use this code for an access database connection will always work even through notepad or textpad:
    import java.io.BufferedInputStream;
    import java.io.File;

    import java.util.Properties;

    public Customers(int ID, String firstName, String lastName){}
    then u should be able to run these classes from within creator with an access database. hope this helps?

  • SQL Issue with MS Access

    Hello;
    I have an SQL query:
    Select year, sum(group1) as A from table1 where name in ('test1', 'test2') group by year;
    When I run it through SQL editor in MS Access it returns the years and sum and a total of 5 rows.
    When I pass this command through Java: Connection.createStatement and executeQuery
    I can print the values and it prints 5 rows but after printing it hangs.
    When i get the size of result set :
    while(rs.next())
    resultSetSize ++;
    System.out.println(rs.getInt(1) + "\t" +resultSetSize);
    It shows the result set as size of 10, when i print the values it stops at 5. I am not sure where the issue is.
    I think since my where condition is have 2 values it might be causing problem.
    If I just put 1 value after my where condition, then the java code runs fine.
    Can anyone tell me what the issue is here or where am I going wrong?
    Thanks for your help.
    Edited by: yesmein on Apr 23, 2009 5:58 AM

    Thanks for the suggestion. I checked the code. Indeed I was not printing an exception. When I printed the exception this is what i get:
    Exception is: java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Invalid cursor state
    hope this helps to guide me on how to solve this issue.
    Below is the code:
    public static void TestQuery()
    String query="SELECT year, sum(group1) as A FROM table1 WHERE name in ('test1', 'test2') ";
    Connection conn = ConnectDB1.getDBConnection(); //this gets the database parameters from a properties file
    Statement stat = conn.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE,ResultSet.CONCUR_READ_ONLY);
    ResultSet rs = stat.executeQuery(query);
    int resultSetSize=0;
    while(rs.next())
    resultSetSize ++;
    System.out.println(rs.getInt(1) + "\t" +resultSetSize);
    rs.beforeFirst();
    System.out.println("Size of result set: " +resultSetSize);
    while(rs.next())
    System.out.println(rs.getInt(1) + "\t" + rs.getInt(2) );
    rs.close();
    stat.close();
    conn.close();
    System.out.println("End of program");
    catch (Exception e){System.out.println("Exception is: " +e);}

  • Remote Delta link setup problem with Bean / Access Service

    Hello,
    I am trying to setup Remote Delta Link (RDL) between two portals. (Both portals same version - EP 7.0 EHP1 SP 05 - are in the same domain)
    I already have the Remote Role Assignment working without any issues.
    The following have been done successfully:
    1. Same user repository has been setup for both the portals
    2. Setup trust between producer and consumer (SSO working fine)
    3. Producer added and registered succesfully on consumer
    4. Permissions setup on producer and consumer
    4. pcd_service user with required UME actions setup
    I am able to see all the remote content in the Consumer portal.
    When I try to copy the remote content and paste it as local content, I am getting the following error:
    Could not create remote delta link to object 'page id'. Could not connect to the remote portal. The remote portal may be down, there may be a network problem, or your connection settings to the remote portal may be configured incorrectly.
    After increasing the log severity, I am able to see the following in Default Trace:
    com.sap.portal.fpn.transport.Trying to lookup access service (P4-RMI) for connecting to producer 'ess_int' with information: com.sap.portal.fpn.remote.AccessServiceInformation@31c92207[connectionURL=hostname.mycompany.com:50004, shouldUseSSL=false, RemoteName=AccessService]

    [EXCEPTION]
    com.sap.portal.pcm.admin.exceptions.DirOperationFailedException: Could not retrieve the bean / access service to connect with producer
    Could not retrieve the bean / access service to connect with producer
    Like you can see above, there is some bean / access service which is not retrieved successfully. I am not sure if this is a permission problem on the consumer.
    I have checked that the P4 ports are configured correctly (standard - not changed) and I am able to telnet from producer to consumer (and vice versa) on the P4 port.
    I am stuck at this point and am not able to find any information on this.
    I would really appreciate if some one can point me in the right direction.
    Thank you for reading.
    - Raj

    Hi Raj,
    Please check your config of the P4 port on the producer.  Is it really 50004 (check SystemInfo of the producer)?
    I do think there's a problem with the P4 communication since RDL requires P4 connection.
    Do you have load balanced consumer-producer connection? Please refer to this blog for further details

  • Error with sql commands with ms access

    hi!
    I'm having problems with sending commands like "create group x" and "alter database password" these aren't working.
    I'm using the jdbcodbc bridge. Simply doing this:
    Statement stmt = con.createStatement();
    stmt.executeUpdate ("alter database password a null");
    doesn't work.
    create group also don't work. Surely other stuff also don't work. But things like create table, drop table, create proc, do work.
    I can't do all the stuff that appears here.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnacc2k/html/acadvsql.asp
    What may be happenning?
    can all that really work from java just like this or it don't?
    I'm using Access 2002 with access 2000 db format.
    Thanks.
    Greeting from chile.

    Well may be I am ignorant. I'm doing a real thing (for somebody) for the first time. They will buy few pcs. Also I think I would like they update to access 2000 or 2002 from 97 because of the semi stored procedures... They will do a lot of effort to just buy that but they really need it.
    I just actually wanted the ability to mantain users and assign permissions to do stuff from the same application. That would have been nice but it is not critical, at least execute procedures does work.

  • ODBC Link ans SQL Server

    Hi!
    So I tried to create a ODBC link with SQL server, but there is a problem during the authentification process.
    When I try to use authentification thanks to SQL server, even with 'sa' user enabled, this error shows up
    Connection failed:
    SQLState: '28000'
    SQL Server Error: 18456
    [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'myUser'.
    When I try to use authentification with Windows ID, another error shows up :
    Connection faled:
    SQLState: '28000'
    SQL Server Error: 18452
    [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication.
    The server is a VPS server and there is no domain to configure.
    I already tried to switch to mixed authentification, with it I can easily connect to SQL server with SQL server Management Studio. I also already browsed SQL Server Configuration Manager in order to set a static (not dynamic) port, TCP/IP are enabled in SQL
    server Network Configuration / Protocols for SQLEXPRESS but it still doesn't work. Ofc I restarted SQL server several times and I even tried to uninstall/reinstall it.
    Finally, this error shows up when I start SQL Server agent with SQL server Configuration Manager.
    >The request failed or the service did not respond in a timely fashion. Consult the event log or other applicable error logs for details.
    I tried to find out what is the problem by reading the logs but there is nothing about the failed authentification attempts there. It only shows some services starting or stopping.
    I read somewhere that it the VIA protocol could be the problem, but I can't find it anywhere in SQL Server Configuration Manager.
    I've been struggling for days with this. you're my only hope
    thanks!

    I juste forgot to explain that I have to do this for a client who will use a software of my company and this software needs this ODBC link to communicate with SQL Server. Also the users will connect to the server in TSE (so the application will be on the
    same server than SQL Server). I don't know if this detail is important but I prefer specify.
    "If it works in SSMS to connect with a SQL Login, then it should work with ODBC by using the same server name/credentials from the sam Client."
    I entered 'sa' user and another user that I created in SQL Server but I have the same error (login fail for user)
    "Are remote Connections enabled? Is a Firewall running on server and/or Client side? If so unblock the required TCP and UDP ports."
    Remote Connections are enabled on the server and there's just Windows Firewall on the server. I unblocked resquired TCP and UDP Ports. Even with the Windows Firewall turned off I have this problem.

  • MS Access 2K/ODBC link Problems

    Hi -
    To date, I've been accessing Oracle files through an Oracle 8 ODBC link. I then had a problem where I couldn't update a long number field. Kept saying that the record was locked and that I could "Copy" or "Drop" my changes. I could easily update the same record in SQL Navigator. Thinking that I had a driver problem, I updated to the Oracle 8.1.6. Since then, I can link and open tables but as soon as I try to make any changes, the application seems to freeze and no updates take place.I've uninstalled and reinstalled countless times and have even tried going back to 7.3.4 but nothing seems to get me anywhere.
    Can anyone provide any guidance on what might be wrong? Appreciate any help you can provide!
    Allen.

  • Can't select char type columns using ODBC link to SQL Server 2K

    I have set up a db link using hsodbc from 8.1.7 to SQL Server 2000. I can select numeric and date columns from the
    SQL Server table with no problem. But any character datatype (nchar or nvchar) column name included in the query
    returns an ORA-00904 ("invalid column name"). I know the column names are valid for SQL Server and can access
    these columns via EXCEL using the same user id and data source that is used for the link. I don't have a clue as to why ORACLE can't "see" the character type columns. Following is the hs trace file (HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = debug) generated for "select assay_name from bio_assay@sqlsrvl":

    Note, the query I entered doesn't appear and I never entered the query "select * from bio_assay" - it appears that this is
    automatically generated by the hsodbc process and raises other questions (like wouldn't this return a lot of unneeded
    data ?). It also appears that the "select * from bio_assay" gets translated somehow into a select statement listing each column - however, non of the columns listed are character type columns like assay_name.
    Does this make sense to anyone? Any ideas ? HELP !

    Remote view gives the same error. I think the problem has to do with nchar and nvchar fields. It seems that the hsodbc agent issues a "select * from bio_assay" at the beginning of the session (see above trace).

    Apparently, the list of fields that is returned from the "select *" does not include any of the nchar or nvchar type columns. After this initial "select *" the oracle server only looks at the initial list of columns and gives an "invalid column" error for any fields that are not in this initial list. So the question is: how do I make the hsodbc agent see the nchar/nvchar type fields and include them in the initial list ? I've tried setting the HS_NLS_LANGUAGE and HS_NLS_NCHAR parameters but these seem to have no effect.

  • MS Access ODBC link to Oracle tables

    I have a MS Access application that is linked via ODBC to tables in an Oracle db. When i try to open some tables in MS Access, it says the ODBC link has failed and I cannot view the data. On other tables this is not so. All the tables were linked via the same ODBC. Any ideas why some of these tables are not accessible?

    Hi
    Welcome to the greatest Oracle forum as this is your first post.
    Have you tried to create a ODBC DSN using MS ODBC for Oracle and set ServerName to the Oracle Service Name, this should be working.
    To get your service name:
    select value from v$parameter where name='service_names';
    By the way have you read that?

    Hope this helps you.

  • Connect to Azure SQL DB with Security Enabled Access required using SSMS

    I'm looking to connect to an Azure SQL DB with Security Enabled Access required using SQL Server Management Studio 2014. I have tried checking off "Encrypt connection", but still errors out with "Cannot open database 'db name' on server 'hostname'
    requested by the login. Access to the database is only allowed using a security-enabled connection string."
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hi Scott,
    Sorry, I missunderstood your initial question and the documentation I referenced is not updated appropriately. You have to change the connection string to <server-name>.database.secure.windows.net when you enable the security/auditing features.
    Documentation for this can be found
    here

  • ODBC Cartridge works with MicroSoft Access database?

    I need to work with data saved in the Access Database, I wonder
    if the ODBC Cartridge will work with Access? From the
    documentation, it only mentions Informix, System.... it didn't
    mention Access or Excel ...
    Any suggestion or prior experience to share will be appreciated.
    Your asap response is much appreciated...thanks.

    Hi,
    I'm using OAS407 with ODBC cartridge and connecting to
    Access. Also, Oracle support put an enhancement request
    in for us to modify the ODBC cartridge to return BODY
    tags thru ICX, so ODBC cartridge can be used with
    LiveHTML. Is that what you want to know?
    Regards,

  • Import MS Access to sql 2008 with c# coding

    I write the following code. When execute AccessCommand, show this error message." ODBC--call failed." Can anyone help me? Thanks.
    using System;
    using System.Collections.Generic;
    using System.Linq;
    using System.Web;
    using System.Web.UI;
    using System.Web.UI.WebControls;
    using System.Data;
    using System.Data.SqlClient;
    protected void btnImportToSql_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection AccessConnection = new System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection("OLE DB SERVICES=0;Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=D:\\attBackup11Feb2014.mdb;Persist Security Info=False;");
    try
    AccessConnection.Open();
    System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand AccessCommand = new System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand("SELECT * INTO [USERINFO] IN '' [ODBC;Driver={SQL Server};Server=(local);Database=ERP_RL;Trusted_Connection=yes] FROM [USERINFO]", AccessConnection);
    AccessCommand.ExecuteNonQuery();
    AccessConnection.Close();
    catch (Exception ex)
    labErrorMessage.Text = ex.Message;

    ....OleDbCommand("SELECT * INTO [USERINFO] IN '' [ODBC;Driver={SQL Server};Server=(local);Database=ERP_RL;Trusted_Connection=yes] FROM [USERINFO]", AccessConnection);
    Why do you have a kind of connection string in your SQL statement? That will never work. If your data souce is a SQL Server, why are you using
    System.Data.OleDb namespace and not
    System.Data.SqlClient, which is dedicated for SQL Server?

  • Access ODBC link table list ONLY one table

    Hi all,
    I try to link Oracle tables from Microsoft Access via Link Table. The return list show ONLY one table, which by right it should show ALL tables in my Database.
    What is the problem here? Anyone encounter this same problem before.
    My database is very large, over 10,000 tables. Can it be because of resources issues?
    Pls help

    Are they all real tables are or some of them perhspa VIEWS, SYNONYMS or the like? The default list is for just tables. I have seen cases where a really large list would make Access puke, but this generally results in getting nothing listed.
