Odd permissions issue that I have no idea how to fix

Ok, so this is what happened. I gave my wife my old laptop, added her as a user and then deleted my home folder and account. I thought everything was fine but now the permissions in the applications folder aren't working properly. Even though she is listed as the administrator, every time she tries to update a program it says that she does not have enough permissions. So then she has to call me, i have to delete the application first and then drag the new one into the applications folder. What do I have to change so that she can rewrite applications?

have her run the following terminal commands. The commands are in bold. Just copy and paste them into terminal please.
*sudo chown -R root:admin /Applications*
She'll have to enter her admin password (which she won't see). that's normal.
This puts the ownership on everything in the Applications folder to owner=system, group=admin, which is the default for all apple apps.
Next run
*sudo chmod -R gw,X /Applications*
This will give the group admin full write privileges to anything in the Applications folder.
next run the following two commands to fix the ACLs that may be messed up.
*sudo chmod -RN /Applications*
and
*sudo chmod +a "everyone deny delete" /Applications /Applications/Utilities*

No I didn't even read through your post, to long.
You said that "No matter what program I try to install, as soon as the installer opens it crashes". Were you talking about the install for this/these 3D programs or ANY program? As it is worded it sounded like ANY program. That tells me there is a problem with your Mac, software or hardware.
Now you say others install programs, which is it. Programs other then the 3D ones install or no programs install?
Could simply be your Mac is to old to run these programs and the installer knows that. You never said what model or year Mac it is.

Did you delete all receipts with iDVD in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/ folder before installing the new copy? If not then do so and delete the new application also.

Settings >> Mail, Contacts. Calendars >> Organise by Thread. Switch to OFF to see every individual email in the Inbox.

Check your local CraigsList. There are often many people claiming they will repair iPhones at lower prices than Apple will charge. But you get what you pay for; you're better off going to Apple and getting it repaired by them, even though you're out of AppleCare and will have to pay for it.
Did you jailbreak your iPhone? If that's what has disabled your accelerometer, you might be able to "repair" it yourself. Do a Google search on "iphone 4 accelerometer repair" for videos and instructions.

Try Restoring it 3 times in a row and see if that works.
If not that error can indicate one of two things: Your iPhone was at one time jailbroken, had the iOS version rolled back, or ran an unauthorized beta and if none of those things are true it is a hardware error.

* "Remove the Cookies" from sites that cause problems: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Firefox crashes before it can be open, just started today and have no idea how to fix it.

All websites automatically going to Mobile versions when using safari and firefox (likely started after mavericks update) Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Not exactly all websites but many seem to be defaulting to their Mobile versions when using my Macbook Air... this is not dependent on browser type (Safare, chrome and firefox have been tried)... this is a new problem and may have started after the Mavericks update (although I am not 100% sure about the timing).

When downloading iTunes, I got a message about error writing to file and it told the file. Then it said to verify that you have access to that directory. I have no idea how to fix it. I could really use some help, please.

I was trying to download iTunes on my computer, and while doing so, I got this message: Error writing to file: C:/Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Apple/Apple Application Support/Apple Versions.dll. Verify that you have access to that directory. I have downloaded iTunes numerous times and I have never had this problem. If anyone knows what's going on, I would really appreciate the help.

Well, there's definitely a mac and a Windows version. And you're at the right page. I think the problem is that someone forgot (or decided not to) to update the text at teh bottom of the page to have Mac and Windows.
Just push the button, you'll get the Mac update no problem.

Close iTunes and disconnect the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Click the Windows Start button .
In the Start Search field type Services.
In the Programs section of the search results, Click "Services".
Select Apple Mobile Device and click Stop the service as shown below:
After the service has stopped, click Start the service.
After the Apple Mobile Device service has started again, open iTunes and connect the device.
Set the Apple Mobile Device Service Startup type to Automatic
Remove and reinstall iTunes and AMDS

The same for me. Using iTunes for years then the update to the new verison failed. Cannot find MSVCR80.dll and I did the reinstall as recommended on the error window. Disater, now I get additiona erros: Windows error 126 and Apple mobile divice cannot determine my priviledges, even running as administrator. From now on I will create a restore point before updating apple products. Never had a problem with itunes or any other Apple program in the past. I cannot find a thread where Apple reconizes the problem and is working a fix.
