Odd problem booting Windows XP
I have an iMac configured to restart into Windows XP by default. Most of the time, upon a restart or power up, it will boot to the Windows welcome screen fine. However, every now and then, upon a restart Windows XP will hang almost immediately after the boot splash screen is displayed.
The only way to solve the issue is to option-boot into OS X (no need to log in) and then restart... Windows will then revert to booting fine (until the next time it decides to hang on startup).
Chkdsk finds no errors on the XP partition, Disk Utility no errors on the OS X.
Any ideas?
I found this too. It seems to only find one host controller and leaves the other with an error. I constantly tried to fix it since I would look in device manager and see an exclamation over one of the USB controllers. I don't know what it is but I just decided it was a flaw with BootCamp.
Anyone with an answer?

Problem booting Windows 7 after memory upgrade
Hi,
I have A Satellite A505-S6015 laptop. I am trying to upgrade to 8 GB of memory.
I have purchased 2 KTT-S3BS/4G memory modules, each 4 GB. The memory modules are recommended by Toshiba.
When I try to boot to Windows it goes into a loop entering WIndows Error Recovery.
Is there a fix for this?
Thanks,
-RichBased on the detailed specs of your laptop, its ram is configured with 4GB DDR3 1066MHz and the ram that you had purchased is Kingston KTT-S3BS/4G 4GB Toshiba DDR3 PC3-10600 1333MHz Memory SODIMM
the clock speed is more higher that your system can handle
I do suggest to go for PC3-8500 DDR3-1066Mhz 4GB with part number PA3677U-1M4G

I imaged my Windows 7 hard drive from my old laptop and put it onto my brand new X1. I cannot get it to boot. When I start the laptop I get a blank screen with a white cursor blinking in the upper left corner.
The above happens after I followed other forum posts to change security settings in the BIOS.
What's the best way to get Windows 7 to boot?Hi Joedwyer,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
The image is suitable for same model of the laptop. Is your new X1 carbon not shipped with pre-loaded OS?
Your old laptop image will not be compatible for X1 carbon, you can check with performing Windows clean installation or you can purchase the recovery media if it not shipped with pre-loaded OS.
Hope this helps!!

Problems with Windows XP SP3 in Boot Camp
Hi,
I have recently received a 21.5" iMac; it is the higher-end of the 21.5" standard configurations. The problems I am having, I believe, specifically relate to drivers.
Firstly, I get no sound whatsoever in Windows XP SP3 (boot camp); I have tried removing and reinstalling the drivers from the Snow Leopard install disc, but no success. I have no yellow question marks in the device manager window, but the absence of audio still persists.
Secondly, I cannot gain access to the special functions of the Apple wireless keyboard in Windows XP SP3 via Boot Camp. Again, I have tried reinstalling the drivers, but no success. I have read an Apple support document which states that the keys are only supported on late 2009 Macs; I own one of these Macs, so that cannot be the problem.Problems with Windows XP SP3 in Boot Camp

Having problems installing Windows 7 on my Macbook Pro w/Boot Camp
Having a problem installing Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit) on my Macbook Pro (mid-2010) 13". I use the Boot Camp Assistant, download the necessary drivers and burn them to a disc. I insert my legit Windows 7 install disc, and the process begins but once I get to 'Completing installation', my mac freezes and I have to restart it and delete the partition. This has happened twice. I have contacted Apple and Microsoft and neither of them said that they could help me with the problem so if someone has had a similar issue and found a solution to it, I would really appreciate the help.
Hi S,
You may want to post in the Boot Camp forum where more of those experts hang out: https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp -
I had to replace my iMac due to HDD and Logicboard failure, so I want to reinstall Windows 7 on Boot Camp partition. Will there be a problem reactivating Windows 7 Home Premium?
Hi,
should be no problem.
Best case is you can activate online via Internet.
Worst case is you have to call Microsoft and explain that it is the same computer after a mainboard failure.

Y500 dual boot windows 8 and fedora 19 problem
I bought a y500 two days ago and i wanted to dual boot windows 8 and fedora 19, so here's what i did
1. downloaded fedora 19 (x64) iso from the fedora website.
2.made a live USB using live usb creator.
4.opened disk management utility and shrunk the c drive (windows 8 was installed here) by 100 gb and kept the 100gb unallocated.
3. started the laptop with novo button, changed the bios config to boot from usb.
4.installed fedora from usb, selecting the 100gb unallocated memory for installation
5.restarted the laptop.
now the problem is fedora works perfectly but when i try to boot windows 8, the following error is shown.
windows failed to start
file:\BOOT\BCD
status: 0xc0000225
info:the boot configuration data for your PC is missing or contains errors.
i am guessing the fedora installation overwrote the boot files of windows and
i have not taken a backup. please helphi,
I have a Y500 and I wanted to dualboot fedora 19 with windows 8, this proved to be unsuccessful. I had made a repair disk before the process (but not a set of recovery disks unfortunately >.< ). now I inserted the repair disk and selected the automatic repair option, it showed a message that auto recovery has failed. now when I pressed the NOVO button and selected the system recovery option, it does not go into the OKR menu but continues with the normal booting process. Can somebody guide me or give links where I can find step by step instructions to making OKR work and reset my laptop to factory settings? PLEASE help As Soon As Possible
NOTE: I did resize the windows 8 os partition but the recovery and the lenovo partition are still untouched -
Dual Boot windows 32bit and 64bit overclocking problems
Im pretty new to overclocking and this is my first try I manage to get my AMD Venice 3200 to hit 2500 with 250fsb X 10, HTT 4, vcore 1.44. I used memory divider 166/200 so the memory is running at 208MHz not alot of overclocking on the memory since it is some cheap brand.
My problem is that I have dual boot and with windows xp everything is fine CPU-z reports the right speed for the cpu and memory when I overclock, and there is an increse in preformance with overclocking, But when I boot windows XP 64bit CPU-z reports the FSB as 200 so it is not showing any change, it does report the change in the memory divider 166/200 and the cpu voltage increased that I applied to overclock. The thing is that when I open systerm properties it shows the CPU speed as 2500MHz but when I test the preformance there isnt any increase. I used Superpi to test preformance and in windows XP 32bit it finishes the 1M test in 36seconds while in Windows XP 64bit it takes 42seconds.
My system specs are
AMD Venice 3200
MSI K8N Platium bios 1.8
1024MB Wintec Memory 3200
Geforce 6800 GTO 400/1100
OCZ ModStream OCZ52012U 520W Power SupplyIm runing the final release of Windows xp 64 and cpu-z 1.30, I also have Everest Ultimate Edition and it only shows 3% overclock 205 FSB. Im thinking of formating the HD with windows 64 and installing it again with the systerm already overclock.

I'm quite new to this stuff, but when I'm trying to boot Windows 7, it comes back with this:
error: invalid signature
I've tried various different things. Sometimes the error above returns, and sometimes this:
BOOTMGR is missing
Any help is appriciated!Rydberg95 wrote:
I have os-prober installed and when I run it this returns:

However, it didn't return this a few hours ago when I ran it in the grub-mkconfig. Back then it return some stuff about the file formats (mostly ext4 and ntfs) and that there was some kind of error with those.
Could be wrong, but I suspect you are using dynamic volumes in Windows 7 (check in Windows: Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disc Management for current volume type). You probably need to convert to basic disc type in Windows 7. I had to do this once to be able to install Fedora. Unfortunately this is not a trivial undertaking.

Problems booting a Windows partition after failing to install and uninstall NTFS 3G
Hi,
I run Windows on my Mac and I installed MacFuse and NTFS 3g today to see how would they work together. It was a terrible decission...!! After restarting the computer a window popped in the desktop with the following message:
NTFS-3G could not mount /dev/disk0s5
at /Volumes/BOOTCAMP because the following problem occurred:
Did not receive a signal within 15.000000 seconds. Exiting...
Afterwards I uninstalled NTFS 3g from System Panel but had problems uninstalling MacFuse. Curiously, I didn't find any preferences file of any of them. Anyways, I dived in some forums and about diferent ways to tackle this, of which I followed this one by bredikhin:
Link: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3942492?start=0&tstart=0
This succeeded in unistalling MacFuse, but didn't allow me to boot Windows at the menu you arrive after pressing and holding the option key. Nonetheless, I can read the files in the Bootcamp partition from Mac.
I'm using a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.8.4 on a 2.3Ghz Intel Core i7 processor with 4GB of memory
Thanks in advance! As has been said, Windows 8.1 isn't formally supported yet, though I have it installed on mine.
Sadly many people have had problems with Bootcamp on Mavericks, especially on later Macs.
Some have had success by creating the bootcamp partition with Bootcam Assistant then rebooting in to OSX and deleting that partition then creating a new exFat partition in its place, named BOOTCAMP.
That partition can then be re-formatted NTFS by the Windows installer which then makes it usable.
Others have been less successful.
If all fails Google can turn up various workarounds until Bootcamp/Mavericks get sorted out (and 8.1 becomes supported). -
I´m having some problems installing Windows 7 on my new 12,1 (21,5) iMac with boot camp. When the computer restarts and the Windows 7 setup begins, i get the message that the cd/dvd driver cant be found, so i can't continue the installation. I've tried searching online for the driver, but can't find it. The cd/dvd seems to be a OPTIARC cd/dvd ad-5690h, which seems to be produced by Sony. I have a authentic windows 7. I even tried loading everything ver to a usb-drive, but then it wont boot.
After reading around on this, and other forums I tried to burn a new dvd at reduced speed(2x), but that did'nt work either... I have an authentic windows 7 iso, downloaded with serial, is there any way to boot this from a jump drive or external hdd?

Graphic problem in Windows with Boot Camp?
I only just noticed this today when I was editing some pictures in Photoshop using Windows (Boot Camp). My version is Windows 8 64-bit and the Photoshop is CS 6 but I suspect the same thing would happen even if I were using Windows 7.
Whenever I view an image in Firefox, Chrome, Windows Picture Viewer or any other program besides Photoshop, the image is always displayed as it is and appears as crisp and sharp as it should. For example, if I load a picture that's 600x600 pixels outside of Photoshop, it would look exactly like it is - at 600x600.
But once I open it in Photoshop, and if it happens to be a very big picture (which it is for me, most of the time), the picture would look resized (i.e. smaller), but the Photoshop navigator would still say it's displayed at 100% magnification. So a 2000x2000 picture would basically look half its real size but still be at a zoom setting of 100% according to Photoshop.
That in itself isn't the problem, but trying to edit/crop the image is. If I were to select a part of the picture and resize it to, say, 100x100 pixels, the final image would be a bit blurry, even if I save it at "most high" quality. That obviously makes my image "un-usable" because the quality is so terrible. This doesn't happen at all on a computer without retina display but on mine it makes the task of editing images in Photoshop frustrating and pointless.
I really think it's an issue with retina display's native resolution not being supported in any version of Windows, so I'm hoping anyone who uses a Macbook Pro RD, Windows AND Photoshop could help me get around this problem.Did you grab and install the graphic driver from Nvidia?
Apple or even Microsoft driver are not always the best.

I see a black screen or distortion when I install Windows 8 on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012). How do I fix this?
The Windows 8 installer does not contain the correct graphics driver for your computer. You'll need to attach the USB media that contains the Boot Camp drivers during installation to address this issue. See this article for more information.

Also with any GTX you may want to see if there is a CUDA driver as well.

Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on up to two external displays, at millions of colors
Also, Intel 4000 graphic driver, switching between Intel HD and Nvidia has been a problem.
From my (now old) notes:
I had problems with windows 7 after the installation using boot camp. The GT 650M was not showing up as the graphics adapter. I fixed the problem by inserting my windows support software CD a second time. I did not let it use auto run. I went into the Windows 7 directory and then into the Nvidia directory and ran setup.exe. This installed the Nvidia drivers for me. If this works correctly, you will have an Nvidia control panel available to you. I set the resolution to 2880x1800. I also set windows to 200% magnification.
I think what happens is that after you install windows, and then run the windows support CD, the main boot camp setup script seems to stop on the nvidia driver install--everything else installed correctly.

Bootmgr problem - can't boot windows
Hi.
Please help me with my boot problem. I cannot access my computer, windows will not boot.
I am running windows 7.
Upon starting up my laptop, I get the message "bootmgr is compressed - press ctrl alt del to restart"
I have searched for the problem around the internet, and it seems to be due to people compressing their hard drive to save space and cancelling half way through.
I have not done this- I was playing around with a SLIC Loader program and installed it by mistake, now I can't boot windows.
I have tried using my windows 7 DVD to repair the startup but it didn't work.
I have also tried to restore but I did not set any restore points.
I have tried using some command prompt bootmgr reset procedures which also did not work.
Can I somehow get a backup of bootmgr and restore it?
Please help
ThanksHi
I assume your boot manager is damage. Probably by installing the SLIC Loader program
My idea was simply; boot from Win 7 disk and then try to get into the command console.
There you could use the command FIXMBR
But if this will not help then you should take your Windows disk or Toshiba recovery disk and should reinstall the whole system again.
