Off with their heads

When I print photos from iPhoto, the printed photo has cut off the top couple of inches of the original photo. If the subject's head is at the top of the photo, the printed photo is "a couple of inches" below the top of the head. I use a HP Photosmart C6180 & HP Photosmart D7160, it does it on both printers. It seems this has started since I installed Leopard and ilife 08. Is there a way to correct this problem?

SInce most digital cameras shoot in a 4x3 ratio and most photos that are printed are in a different ratio ( 8 x 10 = 4x3.2) something has to give - generally it makes the most sense for you to make those decisions

IPod Touch no longer compatible with Pioneer head unit?

Recently installed the newest iTouch software. Before the update I had no issues playing songs from my ipod through my car CD player via usb. Pioneer Premier DEH-P400UB is the model I am using.
Now that I have installed the update, when I plug the ipod in the CD player displays "NO MUSIC." The ipod reads "accessory attached," as it always has.
Anyone else have this issue with their head units? Any brand.

I am so frustrated. I have a Pioneer AVH-P3100DVD and my i-pod touch worked pretty much perfectly with it until I clicked to update the OS to 4.1. Now it is a disaster, slow screen changes, constantly cutting out music. What a joke. My stereo and i-pod are basically useless now thanks to that idiotic 4.1 "upgrade". What is Apple doing putting some buggy piece of crap update out there that basically ruins your i-pod touch? Geez.

Apple Display doesn't shut off with new Mini

I have a brand new 2009 Mini hooked up to my 23" Apple Cinema HD display.
When I shut down the Mini, the power on the display does not power down.
I used to have this same display hooked up with the same mini DVI to DVI connector hooked up to my late 2006 MacBook. The display used to shut down when I shut down the MacBook.
There is absolutely nothing different in my setup between the MacBook and the new Mini as far as connections and cables as I'm using the same cables.
Is anyones display powering off with their new Mini?
I wouldn't think that the mini DVI out would be any different on the MacBook as compared to the new Mini. But apparently there is unless I'm missing something.
I don't really want to live with this as all of my computers shut down automatically at night using the Energy Saver control panel. With the new Mini, the display remains on all night.
Maybe I should have bought a new MacBook Pro 13 to replace my older White MacBook 13.
Ideas? Suggestions?

I would hate to say that this might be an upgrade issue with recent updates.. I 'used' to be able to power off the monitor (touch the switch on the side and the light goes off) but no longer able to.
And to confuse the issue, the 23" ACD power switch is now acting like the Mac Pro's power switch.. While the Mac Pro is running a lengthy process, I'll often turn off the monitor if I am away for a few hours but now, when I touch the ACD power button, the Mac Pro responds with a "shut down, sleep or log off" kind of query.. Well that is certainly new to me..
Does this happen to yours as well?

Vertical photos get their heads cut off! Please help! :)

What do I do about the vertical (portrait) pictures in I-movie that get their heads cut off? I know there is a simple answer - I am a noobie girl!

Select the photo. Then open the Rotate, Crop, Ken Burns Tool. Choose FIT.
This will give you the full portrait with black bars to the side, but no ken burns.
If you want the ken burns effect on vertically oriented photos without cutting off the heads and feet, iMovie 11 will do this.
In iMovie 09, you can do this, but you must first add black space to your photos using an external photo editing application. I have found an Automator Action called Pad Images that will do this very quickly.
It is kind of complicated, so upgrade to iMovie 11 if you do a lot of this.

Yes it is NOT your internet service. It is Apples OSX. It seems to be happening to older computers trying to run the newer OSX ( Mavericks and newer). I have a 2009 iMac I bought with Leopard installed, I upgraded to Snow leopard 10.6.8 and my computer was running flawlessly. I upgraded to Mountain Lion and I noticed my computer running slower... kind of annoying having to wait longer for everything (start up, browsers opening up, apps opening up, mail opening up and so on) Mavericks came out for free and I was excited to get out of this issue. Well, everything went from bad to terrible! Fast user switching had a glitch with desktop picture resetting to the wave, mail rules didn't work properly and I kept getting kicked off the internet (Absolutely NOTHING wrong with my internet). No one could figure out what was going on or how to fix it, even senior Apple tech's! After 3-4 months of searching, troubleshooting and waiting for a fix, I looked at my Mac Pro running Tiger 10.4.11 with no issues what so ever... that is when I made an executive decision. GO BACK TO SNOW LEOPARD! Since May 2014 I have been running 10.6.8 on my 2009 iMac and it has been smoking fast with NO issues what so ever, especially since I maxed out my memory for Mavericks. So to sum it up: some people might get lucky with old machines running new operating systems, but for the most part, it seems older processors can't keep up with the new sophisticated operating systems. The one night I leave it in my pocket with the head phones plugged in and the power off. it stopped working. I thought it lost it's charge so I put it back on the charger. Now I do not get the charging indicator. Is there anything I can do?

Printing cuts off top of heads

I use PSE4 on a WIN XP with all updates. I have a photo (originally 5x7) that I resized to 4x6. WHen I try printing it on my HP PHOTOSMART 7960 on 4x6 HP photo paper with tab the printer always cuts off the top of one head. I have tried sizing down the picture to 3.95 inches and then printing on 4x6 paper. I have tried everything else I can think of and it ALWAYS cuts off the top of their heads. WHen I print the photo with a different photo software the print comes out O.K.
What Am I not selecting, etc. to print the photo as what-you-see-is-is-what-you-get in PSE4?

I'm beginning to suspect the aspect ratio of this image isn't correct. Do this experiment and see what happens:
First, make a copy of the image file you're working on so you don't experiment on an original.
Have the copy open on your desktop (in Editor), then go to Image>Resize>Image Size. Make sure there is no checkmark next to Resample, and then start increasing (or decreasing) just the number in the resolution box until the dimensions of the image are just slightly over 4 X 6. Make sure it is 4.something by 6.something, though. Once you get to that point, click OK and accept the change.
With the resized image open on your desktop, select the Rectangular Marquee tool. Once you've selected it, choose "Fixed Size" in the tool's option bar and set the dimensions to 4 X 6. Use the tool and select a perfect 4 X 6 portion of the image, then do Image>Crop. Now try printing.
Most cameras do not produce an image file that can be reduced to a perfect sized print, so a little bit of cropping is usually required. I know that the images from my camera wind up coming closest to 6 X 4.5, so I always have to take off at least 1/2 inch on that dimension that has to be 4 inches.
I don't promise this will work, but I did notice that you said you did no cropping, and that could be the reason why you're not getting the print size you want.

Im having problems with my Kids facetime accounts that seem to be because they are both using my itunes and there are conflicts with multiple email addresses? Is it possible to now set the kids up with their own accounts without losing their apps etc

I have my kids using iTunes via thier ipods etc through my own account and this hase been the case for some time?
This has started to cause issues lately with imessaging and facetime, as there seems to be a limit on email addresses that can be associated with one account?
I wonder if I would be best off setting the kids up with their own accounts, but want to be able to do this without them losing their existing apps, music etc?
Is this possible, if so is there a simple process cos I can seem to find anything relating to this?

Not going to happen the way you want it to.
When you add a gift card balance to the Apple ID, it's available for the Apple ID.
Probably best to create unique Apple ID's for each... this will also make things easier in the future as purchases are eternally tied to the Apple ID they were purchased with.

StarWalk compass stopped working with their most recent update.

My favorite application on my iPad used to be Starwalk. Ever since their most recent update on April 30, the internal compass stopped working (which is basically the backbone of the entire app). I contacted Vito technology (the developer) - it took a long time to get a response, but after several efforts they finally replied that there was a flaw in the iPad's internal Magnetometer, that it had nothing to do with their software, and there was nothing they could do about it - I should take it up with Apple. The app worked perfectly until their most recent update. I looked at their reviews/comments and numerous people were making the exact same complaint, and everyone said it stopped working as the result of the April 30 Starwalk update. I have one friend with a 3G iPad and the app still works fine for him. I have another friend with a wiFi version like me, and the app ALSO stopped working for him on April 30. So I understand not all iPads are affected.
So am I supposed to take this up with Apple now and tell them there is a flaw in their magnetometer that caused StarWalk to break as of their last update, and see if they can fix all our devices?
I don't believe Vito's assertion that their software is not at fault (considering so many people are complaining in their negative reviews that the last update triggered this breakage).
I'm frustrated and wonder if anyone else is experiencing this. Starwalk used to be my favorite app, and its even more frustrating to listen to the developer tell me its a device flaw that's been there all along, when me and many other people all had simultaneous magnetometer problems develop on April 30 - the moment we installed their last update.

Just that I have the latest from April 30 and there are no updates that are available to me. I guess you have the wifi only version as I do? I can't quite figure out why this would be affecting some people and not others. If you go to the StarWalk page on iTunes you'll see the list of people complaining about the same thing. In iTunes it also says my iPad software is up to date (I assume that means the OS/firmware).
So do you guys think this is something I take up with StarWalk or Apple? I feel a little ripped off that Vito has sold me a $6 app (granted that is not much) that has stopped working, and they are telling me its a flaw in the device.
I'll paste the response I received from Vito below. Bear in mind that although they say this has nothing to do with their software, all of the people who are complaining had a functioning app before April 30, and it stopped working as soon as we made that update.

In specific circumstances iPhone/iPad digital compass (magnetometer) may operate with difficulties, essentially causing errors in all applications that rely on its data.
Unfortunately, we cannot fix this particular problem, because it is caused by the digital compass malfunction and has nothing to do with our software. However, we are happy to offer you directions which may help you avoid experiencing this inconvenience in the future.
For better functioning of the digital compass consider doing the following:
1) Tilt your device from landscape to portrait orientation several times. This will help the digital compass recalibrate itself and calculate current position.
2) Make sure the compass is not obstructed by thick walls of buildings or large amounts of metal nearby. Try going outside.
3) Consider trying again later. Sometimes it is unclear what may be influencing the magnetometer.
If you need more information, please read the magnetometer specifications below.

PLEASE HELP ME !! All Videos downloaded to my I phone turn off ON THEIR OWN while playing. Some play for two or three minutes then turn off--some play for 15 minutes, then turn off. Plus rather than letting me resume play from the point at which they turn off--they all go back to the video starting point. THIS HAPPENS with ALL videos--!!! Videos from i tunes plus home made videos. I have taken the phone to my local Apple store--they had no idea why this happens and they gave me a new phone ( very polite and nice process) however the same thing happens on my new phone. I called Apple support--they had no answers. Please help--I spent a lot of money on the new i phone ( pre discount price) plus bought a brand new computer to make all this work with video and so far a big disapointment!! I have even tried an update and restore wwith the new phone. PS: In your note you mentioned that Apple may have had an issue with video turning off before--did I read that corectly?

Download internal table data into excel sheet with column heading and data

I am having one internal table with column headings and other table with data.
i want to download the data with these tables into an excel sheet.
It should ask the user for file name to save it on their own name. They should give the file name in runtime and it should be downloaded into an excel sheet.
Can anyone tell what is the right function module for downloading these two internal table data with column heading and data.
what we have to do for storing the file name in runtime.

How to swap column-data along with Table header

Hi All!
I found a smple JTableDemo.java class. When I run it it provided sorting on the table as well as Dragging Column-data along with Table header while swaping two columns-headers.
I designed my own table and apply some changes to TableModel. Afterwords it swaps Table-Headers only, but not their respective columns.
Can someone give me a clue for that, where the logical error may be?

i assume that table1 pk does not generated through sequence
proposed insertion will not violate the uniqueness and create another record only in table1

Has anyone else had difficulty using WPA2 Internet sharing with their Apple TV? Any solutions?

I've seen references to this on here, but no solutions.
I use my 27" 2010 iMac to share Internet in my home, latest versions of OSX and iOS.. Works fine, sharing with iPhones, an iPad and my Apple TV 2.
Recently though, I changed to WPA2, and the Apple TV can't see Home Sharing is on. If I switch security (ie WPA2) off, then it can see it again.
So has anyone found a way to use WPA2 successfully with their Apple TV?

Unfortunately you have a lot of very questionable old, incompatible, and probably bad software on your Mac that is not playing well with Mavericks. Some of these can be difficult to uninstall, particularly if you are not familiar with poking around in Mac system folders.
You might consider cutting to the chase and doing a clean install:
backup your documents and passwords, network settings, etc.
Completely erase your hard drive
Reinstall mavericks and your apps from scratch (not from backups)
and finally replacing your documents.
It can be a good thing. Spring cleaning. If you want to go this route, let me know, I can give you some more detailed suggestions for how to do it. The advantage is you can get Mavericks running really fast and reliably, and then be more selective about what you reinstall. A lot of the stuff you have on there is probably from apps you don't even use anymore (like for your Blackberry), or that really aren't necessary.

They locked it originally and it is their gift to unlock ....usually in their own time.
