Office 365 against Office 2013

Hello,
I plan to procure 60 new PCs for my office. I need to also buy MS Office licenses. Currently, we have 25 Office 2013 Std.(perpetual) licenses. We will mostly use Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. We do not want to use cloud storage.
In my scenario, I will buy 12 Office 365 licenses and use/install on all new 60 PCs(5 PCs per username). This is legal ?
To avoid cloud storage, I have disabled/unchecked "Office Online" and "OneDrive for Business" in "Assign License" window. Is this correct?
Am I understanding this Office 365 license model correctly? Please help/suggest.
Many thanks for help.
TE-IN

Hi,
You may have heard that Office 365 allows a user "get the full, installed Office experience on 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets (including iPad® and Android™ tablet) and 5 phones", but we don't suggest our users to share a licence with 4 other users. To
get the best user experience, purchase one licence for each user.
As this question is actually about licensing, the best approach is the local customer service, contact them to ask for the best plan for you. We mainly discuss questions and feedbacks about the Office client in the current forum.
You can find your local customer service number in this link below:

  • Office 365 pro plus 2013 update won't apply automatically

    Hi
We have started to use office 365 pro plus 2013 click to run. The issue / problem we have is that the updates are installing but does not apply. The version of word,excel.. Is old
and i need to manually go to example word and account to apply the updates. I want the updates to automatically apply.
In the config file i have enabled updates. <Updates Enabled="TRUE" />. I have also enabled updates thru group policy and checked that the policy is applying.
In the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\15.0\ClickToRun\propertyBag i have the following keys:
    updatesenabled = 1
    UpdatesDiscoveryPeriodComplete = 1
    updatesreadytoapply = 15.0.4535.1511,en-us
    UpdatesDiscoveryPeriodStartTime = 13026393682226
    updatesthrottlevalue = 313
    version = 15.0.4535.1004
Does anyone have this problem and know how to make the updates apply automatically. I know that if there are office applications open it won’t apply or update but i have a test
computer with no office applications running in the process list and still it won’t apply the updates.

  • What is Office 365 in sharepoint 2013

    HI
what is Office 365 in sharepoint 2013
    adil

    Hi adil,
According to your post, my understanding is that you want to know what is Office 365.
“SharePoint” can refer to one or more Microsoft SharePoint products or technologies including SharePoint Online. SharePoint 2013 is on its way and currently its preview is available both for on-premises and SharePoint Online as a service.
SharePoint Online is a cloud-based service, hosted by Microsoft, for businesses of all sizes. Instead of installing and deploying SharePoint Server on premises, any business can now simply subscribe to an Office 365 plan, or the standalone SharePoint Online
service, and their employees can create sites to share documents and information with colleagues, partners, and customers.

  • Office 365 with Office 2013 MSI Language Pack on Windows 7 machine.

    Hello All,
I have Office 2013 MSI Language Pack installed on Windows 7 machine. After deploying Office 365 using ODT, Lync is crashing.
Is Office 2013 MSI Language Pack compatible with Office 365?
    Thanks in Advance !!

    Hi,
Have you checked the log file? Does it record the error details there?
So you only have the language pack on your computer, not the entire Office 2013 instance? Office 2013 MSI Language Pack doesn't work with Office 365. Try to remove the language pack then try again.
Also, to plan a multi-language deployment of Click-to-Run-based Office installations, please refer to this article:

  • Office 365 Home Premium (2013) vs Excel Standalone (2013) - Looking for Power Pivot

Hi I have read a few comments here on this site but still have a question about the topic.
I currently have an OEM Office 365 Home Premium with Excel 2013 in it but no power pivot available. My objective is to get Power Pivot. Can anyone advise how can I do that? I installed my Office 365 using Click-To-Run so I don't think this allows me to disable
any specific application e.g. Excel 2013 that's bundled with the rest of Office 365 I purchased.
I heard that Excel 2013 Standalone can be bought and downloaded and it does come with power pivot add in. Is this true? If so can I buy the Excel 2013 standalone then run it side by side with the Office 365 Home Premium I have now installed or
will it clash and have issues when used together ?
MS official sites say you can only get the power pivot as add in if you purchase Office 365 Plus. I'm a bit confused. If that is true does it mean the Excel Standalone has no power pivot available?
Thanks and I'm looking for any seasoned user who can share their experience using Excel 2013 standalones or users with 365 having version 15.0.4649.1001
    Thanks - Felix

    Hi,
Power Pivot are available in the Office Professional Plus and Office 365 Professional Plus editions, and
in the standalone edition of Excel.
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/start-power-pivot-in-microsoft-excel-2013-add-in-HA102837097.aspx
Then, please note the following thing when you install Office 365 and other Office version side by side.
As you said, Office 365 usually uses Click to Run version(C2R), and Office 2013 MSI on a system with Office 365 (Click to Run) is NOT supported, thus, we need to install the C2R version of Excel 2013 standalone edition.

  • Office 365 upgrade to 2013 version breaks CFmail

We have been using CFmail to authenticate to Office 365 (version 2010 of the product) for many months without issue, using TLS / port 587
On May 1st our account was upgraded to the 2013 version and since then we can't consistently authenticate; often the connection is refused and the mail queues up.
    The script looks like this:
    <cfmail from="[email protected]" to="#order_info.email#" subject="Shipping information for #order_info.orderid#" type="html" server="smtp.office365.com" username="[email protected]" password="password" port="587" usetls="true">
Errors we see are like this:
    "Error","scheduler-2","05/13/13","12:42:44",,"failed to connect"
    "Error","scheduler-3","05/13/13","12:42:13",,"failed to connect"
    "Error","scheduler-0","05/13/13","12:45:16",,"failed to connect"
Has anyone faced this problem and solved it?
    thank you in advance

    Hi,
I think we are talking about the feature to reduce Outlook 2013 header size. This feature is available in the Outlook version is reported as 15.0.4551.1005, apparently your version is not updated.
If you haven't transformed "Windows Update" into "Microsoft Update", please try the steps below:
    1. Start the "Windows Update" window
    2. Click the link in "Get updates for other Microsoft Products. Find out more"
    3. Internet Explorer starts at the Microsoft Update page which detects you only have "Windows Update" configured and asks you if you want to configure "Microsoft Update" as well by agreeing to its Terms of Use.
    4. Clicking there refreshes the same page into "Choose how Windows can install Updates" page
    5. Click on the "Install" button
    6. In the UAC screen, confirm you are an Administrator
    7. Internet Explorer now refreshes the page to show "Find Windows Update using your Start Screen"
    8. "Windows Update" now will find updates for other Microsoft products like Office 2013 as well
If the steps above are different from what you see in your computer, please refer to this KB below, try the steps under
I am currently using Windows Update. How can I access Microsoft Update?
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/901037
Check if now Office will update, please note usually the updates to Office 2013 are pushed to Windows Updates after a period of time.

  • Unwanted contacts synced with Office 365 and Exchange 2013

I have an issue with unwanted contacts on Mavericks (and formerly Mountain Lion) syncing with our hosted Exchange server on Office 365. The problem began when the Office 365 service upgraded to Exchange 2013. I do not use iCloud at all.
The unwanted contacts are only visible when I click on “All Contacts” within Contacts.app and do not appear in any hosted or local contact group. They are synced to all our macs, but are not visible on anything else, including Outlook.app or OWA, or our iPhones and iPads. Each user with a hosted Exchange account on Office 365 has the same problem, but with a different set of unwanted contacts. Normal contacts behave as expected for each user and device.
The format of the unwanted contacts is simple. They contain nothing but an email address (no name, phone, IM or other details) which leads me to think they are automatically generated recent or suggested contacts, although some of them are quite old. We use Mail.app exclusively on our macs.
I can delete these unwanted contacts one at a time from any of my macs, and although they appear to be deleted on the server (resyncing another mac deletes them there too), they will reappear (resynced from Exchange) within a day or two and they have to be deleted all over again. It is a frustrating and time consuming process.
    My questions then:
can I prevent Contacts.app from the syncing these contacts?
or can I prevent Mail.app from presumably sending them to the server in the first place?
or is there a command I can issue through Powershell to tell Exchange to delete and not retain these contacts?
Any other suggestions to prevent this behaviour would be most welcome.

I'm having this exact same issue.
Have you seen this thread? https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5252673?start=45&tstart=0
I'm on Exchange 2013, which I manage, and Mavericks.  I also noticed you can see a "Linked Contact" on OWA 2013.
This is just more of the extremely poor Apple software engineering we have seen over the last few years...

  • Project Pro for Office 365 without Office 365 subscription

I've been looking for hours and can't determine if I have to have an Office 365 subscription to purchase Project Pro for Office 365.  I have a user at our organization that needs Project Pro.  There are no Office 365 accounts.  The price point
of <$30/month seems more attractive than the $1,200 up front cost.
If I do need an account, does that mean I have to pay for the cost of an Office 365 account as well, or is that included?
Can there be an Office 365 account on a computer already running Office 2013?  or will it conflict with products already installed?  I can't believe there's no readily available answers anywhere on their website or under the product information.
Everyone just seems to assume that you're running Office 365 already.

I believe you can purchase Project Pro through a subscription without also purchasing Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).  What is not included if you don't have an Office subscription is you wouldn't have SharePoint nor Lync nor Excel (used for Visual
    Reports in Project).
I agree the documentation is confusing but I think the reference to Office 365 is the deployment method of running Project as an SaaS (software as a service) application.
It is reverse of what you are talking, but I successfully run Project as an MSI installation alongside an Office 365 subscription.
One way to check its functionality with your current installation is to install a trial version.

  • Questions in Office 365 - Product Office Addins - How Best To Set Up Test & Dev Environments

    Hello Team,
One of our customer raised this below query:  (Please refer :
    http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/172/p/290555/887029.aspx#887029)
We have an existing product which has a set of components which are
Office Addins, working on Office 2007, 2010, 2013.
We have a customer who has asked us to support these on Office 365, as their Microsoft strategy is to move to this platform.
Our understanding is that there are two flavors of Office 365:
A browser-based version written in JavaScript (akin to Google Docs)
version which installs the full Office 2013 on the client, using Click-To-Run as the deployment technology.
We are planning to work with option 2 only just now (for Office 2013 only – not for 2010 or 2007).
In order for us to start working on this, we’ll need Office 365 clients installed both in our development and test environments. We see that we can access Office 365 through our MSDN subscription by doing this:
    a. Launching this site:
    https://mspartner.microsoft.com/en/us/Pages/index.aspx
    b. Signing in
    c. Clicking on Resources->Access my software and keys
    d. Choosing Office 365
However when we do this, we get this information:
"Important Information on activating your cloud licenses Your cloud product key can only be redeemed once. Therefore, in order to activate your Internal-use cloud
licenses on your existing cloud tenant, you MUST sign in BEFORE you activate your 25 digit cloud product key. Once your cloud product key has been redeemed, you will be unable to use it again.
You have the choice to deploy your program license grants as an on-premises only, online only, or an on-premises and online combination solution. Your combined usage
for on-premises Office products and Office 365 may not exceed your program license entitlement. Country and worldwide license maximums apply. To ensure you are compliant with program policy and guidelines, refer to the Product Usage Guide."
We are not clear on what the above means for us exactly, and which option we should choose: on-premises only, online only, or an on-premises and
    online combination solution.
    Please advise. Many Thanks.

  • Office 365 to Office 356

Well there is an issue with that. We have to loose the current domain name and register for a new one. It is just 6 users.
I was thinking either go for office 365 or exchange online. But in both cases I would require to migrate the current mailbox of each user.

One of my clients already has a domain and is running office 365, now they want another domain and another office 365 subscription. The thing here I need your assistance is in how do I migrate the mails, calendars and contacts of each user from one office 365 to another office 365.

  • Syncronization problem using Office 365 with Outlook 2013

    Hi
I have a problem with my Outlook 2013.
On my Office computer, I am using a Mac Computer and I have my gail account on it.
On my Laptop I have Windows 8.1 and Office 2013.
I have my POP account configured and I am able to send and receive e-mail, but when I delete an e-mail
on my Mac it won`t delete it on my Outlook 2013...
    Any Ideas?
    Thank you!
    Moriyas

    Hi Moriyas,
George is right. POP accounts do not allow Outlook to sync with the mail server. In this case, if you deleted a message from one of your devices, this update/change will not get sync'd to your mail server, hence all other devices with the same
account configured will have no chance to get the updates.
If it is possible (if your ISP support IMAP also), you might consider switching to IMAP configuration, which is the better choice for those who frequently use multiple devices to work with their email.

  • Is Office Home and Business 2013 fully compatible with Sharepoint Online (Office 365)?

My client recently upgraded 3 Windows 7 PCs (2-32 & 1-64-bit OS) from Office 2007 32-bit (which was actually working fine against Exchange/SharePoint Online) to Office Home and Business 2013 (32-bit)
Now, for all 3 PCs, while Office 2013 Word/Excel can open, check out/in, and save SharePoint Online files, there is ALWAYS a 2 minute delay in closing the file which is apparently waiting for the Local Security Authority call to return. This seems
to indicate an issue related to SharePoint security on the client side.
      Problem Event Name: AppHangXProcB1
      Application Name:
    WINWORD.EXE
      Application Version:
    15.0.4657.1000
      Waiting on Application Name:
    lsass.exe:lsasspirpc
This is the Local Security Authority Security Support Provider Interface Remote Procedure Call (LSA SSPI RPC)
My client has 66 licenses for SharePoint Online (Plan 2) and 73 Exchange Online (Plan 1) "stand alone" services. The same failure is happening on 3 Win 7 PCs. All of which I've carefully reviewed against the MS Office trouble shooting guides (start
    Windows OS w/out non-MS services, Word/Excel safe mode w/out add-ons, O365 readiness checks, Office repair, etc.). We have PCs running Win 7 (32 & 64-bit) w/Office 365 ProPlus & Office Professional Plus 2013 that work fine. it's JUST these 3 Win 7
PCs that were upgraded from Office 2007 to Office Home and Business 2013 that have the 2 min. SharePoint file close time.
Can you please confirm that Office Home and Business 2013 is compatible w/SharePoint Online
at least for Excel and Word?
The "slow close" problem can be demonstrated on multiple site collections/sub sites and w/Excel & Word docs in doc libs and lists
After many hours capturing information, following the MS Office trouble shooting guides, and repairing the Office install, I've had no luck in resolving this. While Word/Excel will eventually close SharePoint Online files after about
2 minutes, this is certainly unacceptable. Otherwise, locally stored files close normally and new files were created by the Office 2013 Excel/Word for this testing.
Any thoughts or guidance would be appreciated.

    Hi raygabe,
I couldn't find the document mentioned there is any compatibility between Office365 SharePoint online and Office Home and Business 2013 version, I would recommend that you check if the issue could be reproduced on other Win7 machines installed with Office
Home and Business 2013 installed directly instead of upgrading from Office2007, see if issue is related to Office application upgrade.
I also recommend that you post this issue on our dedicated Office365 SharePoint online forum and Office 2013 forum for a better assistance with more experts regarding this issue from the following links.

  • Powerpivot 2013 doesn't work on Excel 2013 / Office 365: data model issue

    Hi guys
I recently upgraded my Office 2010 to Office 365, with Excel 2013. Before installing Office 365 I uninstalled Office 2010. I'm running Windows 8 64 bits.
I have the Powerpivot 2013 add-in, I can activate it without any issue. However when I click on "manage" on any spreadsheet (including new empty ones) I have an error "We
couldn't load the Data Model.  This may be because the Data Model in this workbook is damaged.", followed by "PowerPivot is unable to load the Data Model".
I tried to repair the installation to no avail. I tried to launch excel in admin mode, nothing better.

  • Office 365, Office 2013 and IaaS

    Hello all,
I am planning to use a RDS environment built on AWS with Office 2013 pro plus deployed in it. Office 2013 pro plus would be licensed with a Volume License from a SPLA.
I would like to know if I can subscribe to Office 365 business essentials and then use this Office 365 account from the RDS environment and especially by interconnecting Office 2013 pro plus to it. Would that be MS compliant?
Thank you very much for your help.
    Best Regards.

    Hi,
You cannot use Office 365 Business Essentials license to connect to Office 365 ProPlus via a Remote Desktop Connection. This is because Office 365 ProPlus does not come with Office 365 Business Essentials.
To use Office 2013 via RDS connection, each user should be assigned with a license for Office 365 ProPlus, Office 365 ProPlus will then contact the Office Licensing Service on the Internet to obtain a licensing token for the user who uses Office 365
ProPlus on the computer and then activate Office 365 ProPlus.

  • App-V Office 2013/Office 365?

    Hi,
In order to App-v Office 2013, apparently you need Office 365 ProPlus? How to get it, we do have Office 2013 ProPlus but that's not sufficient? Don't get what the difference is actually.
Note: we don't want to use  Office 2013 click-n-run.
    J.
    Jan Hoedt
Note: the click-n-run doesn't give the option to mention you Exchange server, the junk folder used in Outlook etc., that's what we really need (just as the setup.exe /admin option in Office.

The difference between Office 365 ProPlus and Office Professional Plus 2013 is licensing only as the text you've quoted shows and as Rory has provided details on as well.
This is separate from how you deploy Office. With either Office 365 or Office 2013 you can choose to use a standard installation or the Office Deployment Tool (App-V). Office 365 also provides the Click-to-Run version which you download from the Office 365
    site.
If you have licensed Office 365, but want to use the Volume License media, you may have to purchase the media separately (which is really a download from the Volume License site). You may be required to purchase the minimum of 5 VL licenses to get access
to the media, but check with a Microsoft licensing expert for clarification.
