Office 365 & Onsite Avaya PBX

We have an onsite Avaya IP-500 PBX with mainly IP desk phones. Using the Avaya TAPI driver on a PC, using Outlook 2007 we used to be able to click on Call Contact and using the Avaya TAPI driver the desk phone would automatically start dialling. This also
worked using dialler.exe
We've recently migrated our onsite Exchange 2003 server to hosted Office 365. All users are E3 users and we've downloaded and upgraded to Office 2013. Now when I try and call a contact from within Outlook 2013, it starts up a Lync 2013 window and says The
calling feature is disabled.
I've fixed this problem by adding a TAPIOVERRIDE key to the registry as described here :-
slipstick.com/outlook/contacts/calling-from-an-outlook-contact-does-not-work/
and it seems to work as before.
My question now is: - If I receive an email from an internal user, I can click on their picture and see their contact numbers from AD, but clicking CALL tries to initiate a Lync call. Some users don't have webcams and speakers so I'd like to initiate a TAPI
call utilising my desk phone directly from this screen rather than adding them as a contact. Is this possible?
TIA Chris.

Hi,
In Outlook 2013, it is by default to use Lync 2013 when you click Call in the use contact. I am not familiar with how the Avaya IP-500 PBX works to make a call with your contacts. Does it only work with the user who is added as a contact in Outlook?
If that is the case, please contact the Avaya IP-500 PBX support to confirm if it can work with AD users who are not added as Outlook contact in local machine. If I misunderstand, please feel free to point it out.

  • Office 365 - onsite Exchange

    Hi All,
We are looking into office 365 but were wondering if it is possible to keep our onsite exchange server and just run the office apps.
    Holchem IT

If I understand you correctly, you are trying to deploy office 365 with Exchange Online services, while keeping your current Exchange server, say Exchange 2013.
And yes, Exchange Online Service can meet your preferences. It supports two deployment options:
Cloud-only deployment:   Your organization has all user mailboxes hosted in Exchange Online.
Exchange hybrid deployment:   Your organization has some user mailboxes hosted in an on-premises Exchange organization and some user mailboxes hosted in Exchange
    Online.
For details on how to do an Exchange hybrid deployment (assuming you are using Exchange 2013), you can refer to this article:

  • Deleting Stale Office 365 online Mailboxes with Powershell

We are using Office 365 online for our student email system.
I want to remove any mailbox that hasn't been accessed in the last year.

Once you determine that, you can remove the mailboxes a number of ways - depending on how your onsite AD interacts with Office 365.
If you use DirSync, the users that have been deleted onsite should eventually be purged from Office 365, mailboxes included.
*To be honest, I have always deleted users manually using the method below, so I cannot affirm, from experience, that this is the case, so someone may correct me.*
You can manaully purge mailboxes as well (I had to do this a while ago) with PowerShell cmdlets.
    $cred = get-credential
    connect-msolservice -credential $cred
    Remove-MsolUser –UserPrincipalName [email protected]
Yes, you have to install what is known as the Windows Azure Active Directory Module for PowerShell to use those commands (cmdlets).

  • Exchange 2010 and Office 365

Haven't been able to find a definitive answer from our friends at Microsoft or Google, so here goes!I have a client (lets call the Client A) with onsite SBS Server (Exchange 2010 SP3) of 50 seats. The client has multiple meeting rooms, defined as resource mailboxes and makes extensive use of free/busy info for booking staff and resources for meetings. That part is all good!Recently, a related organization (who we'll call Client B) moved into the same office with them. The second organization (who has IT support provided by another company) uses Office 365 for their email services and has a completely different domain name etc.Because they are related, Client A has requested that they and Client B integrate their calendars so that staff from clients A & B can see each others free/busy info, invite each other to meetings and staff from...

    Hi,
If you wanted to add a delegate to possiblly a large number of users or you do this during mailbox provisioning. So the following script will use

  • Upgrading from Office 365 E1 to E4 - are we able to transition current phone numbers to Lync?

We are currently looking in to upgrading our Office 365 account from E1 to E4.
We'd like to use Lync going forward for calls. Is is possible for each employee to have their current phone number reconfigured to sync with their Lync account. What kind of effort does this involve?

Agree with both Anthony and Ben, but I thought I'd chime in and mention that with the Office 365 E4 subscription you get Enterprise Voice capabilities, but will require an on-premise deployment also. (which I personally find confusing as MS removed "hybrid"
support around May last year but at the very bottom it says this on the E4 page
Lync enterprise voice capabilities require a customer to purchase and deploy Lync Server, either on-premises or in a hosted data-center, to enhance or replace traditional PBX systems.)
Having said that, according to this response from MS in the Office 365 forum, http://community.office365.com/en-us/forums/156/t/188567.aspx you get an on-premise license with
the E4 subscription to facilitate voice.
If this is the case, it would mean that you'd need to integrate this on-premise deployment with the PSTN network (through some sort of Media Gateway ) and you could in fact use your existing numbers.

  • Has anyone completly migrated/moved SBS 2008 to Office 365 ?

    Hello All,
We have a client with SBS 2008 and would like to moe all AD/ emails / data / possibly some 3rd party applications  like QuickBooks (This is not confirmed yet) to office 365 and once moved would like to decommission the SBS 2008 box so from that
point onwards everything including AD authentication would be done via office 365.
I have seen articles/information about moving exchange/data etc. but not the whole  infrastructure to office 365 and depend entirely on office 365 without any onsite servers.
Has anyone tested this method? if so please let me know your feedback.
Also what are the cons of depending solely on office 365 apart from the obvious , office365 or internet outages , lack of full control etc.
    Regards,
    Dhanushka

First off that's not possible.  Unless the application can run natively inside SharePoint, Office 365 does not give you NTFS file share platform for which to install QuickBooks.
Email and SharePoint yes.  Native file shares no.
What can be done however is look over to Azure.  On Azure you can turn on Remote desktop services, host a file sharing server in Azure/then host desktops in azure, use the Essentials role to hook into Office 365.
But bottom line what you think can be done in 365, can't all be done in 365.  It needs Azure.

  • Avaya PBX versus Skype Connect

    Dears,
we have Avaya PBX ver. 5.2 (upgrade 2010) with enabled SIP server. Normally we use SIP trunks as input lines and SIP extensions.
Now we want to apply Skype Connect as a new input channel to our PBX (Czech republic, Slovakia, Hungary), but I just received answer from Avaya that Skype Connect is possible to use only un USA at this moment.... In the first phase, Avaya customers in the U.S.3 will have access to Skype Connect™, providing a SIP communications channel between Avaya communications systems and Skype.
Please help me with this case.
    Thank you
    Tomas Husar ([email protected])

    Hello eximosr,
I not sure why Avaya is telling you that you cannot use SIP in your country, and don't know more specifics on the Avaya product you are using.
We have Skype for SIP users all around the world using Avaya IP Office and other Avaya systems.  Half of the older systems use SIP gateway devices because they have not upgraded their systems to current releases.  That may be a solution for you also.  Please visit our:  http://www.skype.com/intl/en/business/skype-connect/   page to see the list of vendors for gatyeway products there.
There are many ways to use Skype for SIP and if you contact you local Telecom Consultant, they will be able to provise you with more information.
I hope this helps you solve you issue.
Thanks for using Skype and Skype Community Forums.

  • Office 365 for Non Profits

We are the world's largest NGO registered in Geneva and Brussels. We do not have a registration certificate in India. Could we still apply for Office 365 Enterprise E 3 under your CSR scheme?
    Awaiting your response,

You could achieve this by migrating the email from the local SBS to Office365, and then adding the additional (non-SBS) users directly in Office365 - that way all users would be in the same Global Address list.
You have the choice of either:
    1. setting up the Office365 users completely separate from your AD (ie just create all users under Office365, and migrate over the email from those who had onsite mailboxes using something like MigrationWiz)
    or
    2. using the MS migration approach and setting up DirSync on a local server to sync the onsite AD users with Office365, migrating their email over, and then adding the additional Office365-only users directly via the Office365 admin portal
With either option, as long as your onsite user count remains within the SBS 75 user limit, it won't be an issue.
    Hope that helps

  • Not received promotional code when registered for "Microsoft Power BI for Office 365 preview!"

    Hi,
I have registered for "Microsoft Power BI for Office 365 preview!" and received the welcome mail from Microsoft Office 365 <[email protected]>
But their is nowhere mention of any promotional code
Further as per the steps given in the welcome mail I created the unique tenant for Power BI and now provisioning Power BI for office 365. Here as per the snapshot provided in the provisioning document I am not able to see the specific license
i.e "Microsoft Power BI for Office 365" which I have to assign to my tenant. Instead I see the License "Microsoft Office 365 Plan E3". Is this acceptible?
Further i have assigned this license (Microsoft Office 365 Plan E3) and added Power Bi app to the Site Contents
Now when I try to open Power Bi app to open the reports I have uploaded to office 365, I get the following error
    *********Error**************
No Power BI for Office 365 License
Looks like you do not have a user subscription license for Power BI for Office 365.
Want to find out what you're missing?
Learn more about Power BI for Office 365.
     Here are a few ideas:
Please ask your Office 365 admin to assign you a user subscription license for Power BI for Office 365.
If you have a different account, try signing in with that account.
It will be great help if anyone can help me resolve this issue?
    Thanks in Advance!

After I registered, I got a welcome email with a url to login from office 365. Url is - https://portal.microsoftonline.com/admin/default.aspx.
I am able to login successfully. But I am not able to see the Power BI option anywhere after I login.
Please suggest me If I miss something. Your help is really appreciated.

  • Error while saving a workflow via sharepoint designer Office 365: Server-side activities have been updated. You need to restart SharePoint Designer to use the updated version of activities

    Hi,
I get the above error whenever I try to save a new WorkFlow. I have cleared the caches
    <user profile>\appdata\roaming\microsoft\SharePoint Designer\ProxyAssemblyCache
    <user profile>\appdata\local\microsoft\websitecache\<sitename>, and
I still get the same issue.
We are using SharePoint Designer 2013 (15.0.4569.1503) and connecting to SharePoint 2013 on Office 365.
Can you please provide more insight?
    Thanks.

    Hi Rake,
You can compare your PC and another machine which is working, see if it is related to IE settings(e.g. SharePoint urls in trusted sites zone).
And you can try re-install the SharePoint Designer 2013 with same version and bit-version(32/64) on your PC like another machine, then check again.

    Hi,
To narrow down this issue, please take your time to collect some information:
Does this happen to message sent to an individual, to a domain, or to a network?
Does it happen for messages sent to recipients within your organization, or to recipients at other domains?
What do the SMTP protocol logs show when attempting to send the messages?

  • Error Extending 2012 R2 AD Schema for Exchange 2013 RTM/CU6/CU7 (for Office 365 attributes)

    Hello all,
I am a sysadmin at a 3 campus school, and am trying to extend our AD schema to include Exchange 2013 attributes so that we can configure groups synced to Office 365 using DirSync. However it keeps failing at the same point each time.

  • How to enlarge and centralise the 'Content Area' in an Office 365 webpage

Hi, I'm relatively new to O365 and I'm working on our webpage
The issue I have is that you have the Content Area but that seems to be about 1/2 an inch in from the left hand screen and only covers approx. 75% of the screen, what I want is the content area to be about 1000pixels wide and centralised.
I've tried looking at the CSS style sheet but there doesn't seem to be anything that helps me to do either of the above tasks.
Any help would greatly be appreciated, thanks.
    Jason

    Hi Jay Dog,
This questions is definitely not about Office client, if you are customizing your own website, I suggest you post the question in Office 365 Community to get specific support:
    http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/default.aspx
The reason why we recommend posting appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the forums regularly can either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction with us. Thank you for your understanding.

It's recommended to download and install
Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT), which is developed by Microsoft Support teams. Once the tool is installed, you can run it at any time to scan for hundreds of known issues in Office
    programs.

  • Office 365 instead of Office Web Apps server?

We don't have an Office Web Apps server deployed. We'd really like to share Powerpoints in Lync with the full user experience, but we don't want to install a standalone server just for Office Web Apps since we wouldn't use it for anything else.  We
use Office 365, is there a way to use an FQDN from Office 365 and point to that in topology builder as our Office Web Apps server?  We area always loading PowerPoint from the cloud anyways.  Is there any way to get around installing a stand alone
    OWAS server?
    Thanks,
    Brandon

No as of today I believe that with Lync server 2013 on premise you do need office web app server on premise
