Office for mac has taken over my keyboard¡¡¡

Im not really sure if this is a problem because of office or not but when I started editing a few documents in Spanish my keyboard suddenly changed over to Spanish and instead of finding the colon I find the spanish Ñ among many other changes. I cant find the at sign at all and the quotes and apostrophes are in the wrong places having been replaced with spanish stuff. How do I get my keyboard back¿ I have made sure that English is my default language in Microsoft Word for Mac.

Check the settings in the Input Menu tab of the International pane of System Preferences and click on the flag in the menu bar.

  • Office for Mac 2008 & 2011

I bought my Macbook pro August 2010 along with Office for Mac 2008.
I received Office for Mac 2011 disc last Nov and have installed it.
I now have both Office for Mac 2008 and 2011 on the Mac. How do I uninstall the 2008 version????

In addition, try looking in the Microsoft Office folder in your Applications folder. Some Office 2008 uninstallers are located there.
Office for Mac has said that there is nothing wrong with having both versions on your system. While this would allow you to have both Entourage and Outlook email support, I do not really trust what they have said, as I think it could cause issues down the road.

I recommend the FREE and very capable LibreOffice if people don't specifically need Office.
    http://www.libreoffice.org/
Runs on OS X, Windows and Linux. Reads/writes Office files too.
Office is only for those who trade editable files with other (enslaved) Office users.
If you need office software just for yourself, why pay?
If you need to send a LibreOffice file to another, just pack a copy of Libreoffice along for the ride, it's free.
Why put up with Office DRM scheme headaches?
Why put up with numerous "security" issues that have plagued Mac users with Office over the years?
Enough is enough, dump Microsoft completely and don't let them sucker you back into their "Stockholm Syndrome Effect" or make you feel sorry for them.
Office software should be free anyway now, god knows they can't improve it anymore.

my father has itunes account for ipad and my mother for an iphone my father has taken over iphone and needs to link it to his account

iTunes will need to be set up on your computer however you can set up a new Apple ID to use for your iPhone. Really all you need to do is Assign a new Apple ID to your iCloud account.
Follow the link to create a new Apple ID: https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
After you do that, on the device you want to assign a new iCloud account go: Settings > iCloud > Delete Account and then sign in with the new Apple ID.
NOTE: This does not effect iTunes, all of your devices can continue to use one shared iTunes account under your original Apple ID for downloading apps and backups. This simply gives iCloud a place to sync the individual devices information and will stop iCloud form merging all the information, such as contacts, with all of your devices.

You could purchase any commonly available external USB DVD/CD writer, such as the excellent LG brand units sold on Amazon, for about $30 US.  I've used an LG writer for years to save wear and tear on my older Superdrive.

How do I open a Numbers file sent to me that has been converted to Excel?  I already have MS office for Mac, but nothing comes up when I click on the imported file.

If it indeed has been converted from Numbers to Excel, it will have a .xlsx suffix at the end of the name. Do a Get Info on the file if the suffix doesn't show. Else, it may still be in Numbers format and be unreadable by Excel.
If it is in the right format, and you don't want to have to do what mende1 has instructed above for every successive file, click on the "Always open with..." option. That will associate the .xlsx suffix to Excel from thereon.

Apps for the Mac are for Mac conputers only running Mac OS X only. iDevices use Apple's mobile OS iOS. They are not cross compatible OSes.
You would have to use the App Store on your iPad to see if Microsoft has done a scaled down iOS version of Microsoft office for Apple iDevices. I am not sure if they have or not.
The only Microsoft-like office apps for your iPad that are on The App Store for your iPad is Apple's own Pages, Numbers and Keynote.
    Good Luck.

  • I am running Os X Lion with Home and student office for Mac. My MS Outlook Mail programme has picked up a virus I think. The programme is sending out multiple mails to addresses that I have no knowledge of.

Hi all: Wonder if any one can advise.
My Mac is running Lion OS X 10.7.5 and I have MS Office for Mac (Student and Home) installed.
A couple of days ago I noticed 14 emails in my inbox and others in Spam and Junk with a header explaining that these mails are undeliverable; they are mail addressees that I have never heard of.
I have installed and run (I think correctly), ClamXav but it is still happenning.
How can I rectify / rid my Mac / mail programme of this problem?
    Regards

Check your "Sent Mail" folder to see if any of those messages were sent from it. If not then they just spoofed your address. If any are found there then your account was hacked (almost certainly on your ISP's mail server) and you need to change password and/or e-mail address.

  • Windows compatibility; Delete key, view, Office for Mac and  Hassels

    Dear Friends
I liked the style of the Mac powerbook, and after years of happy use of a Samsung notebook, I decided to take the plunge and buy a Mac. I amlo liked the idea of contributing to diversiy and not putting all my bucks in Gates's basket! People assured me there would be no compatibility problems bwteeen Office for PC and Office for Mac. So I moved from PC to Mac, but have had lots of problems. I have a powerbook 12". My main issues are that:
    1. Word and Powerpoint for Mac do not always convert properly when I take my files to work where I have to use PC. I find editing in powerpoint for Mac less easy than PPT for windows. Before an important presentation at an international conference recenly, the file I worked on on my Mac came out all funny when I loaded it onto the windows laptop that was already set up. I lost a good five minutes ******* around beore an international audience. Someitmes formatting in Word for Mac jumps and highlights and bold and bullet points go all srtrange or are lost when I take the file to work.
    2. The keyboard of the Mac is frustrating. I usually delete rightward; to do this on a Mac I have to hold down Fn and then delete, i.e. two finger operation. I always screw up since I am so used to the delete key on my PC and my brain gets in a twist. Is there a way I can change this?
    3. The power book is quite heavy (a simple moan as I travle a lot).
    4. Word, PPT and internet pages do not cover the whole screen, just the left half to three quarters, with a strip of unused screen on the right. I have been unable to make word for Mac ect cover the whole screen, so I always have to adjust the view size and then half the text is cut off. I would like to see the whole screen used. This is frustrating as the Mac has a kind of grainy screen.
    Any suggestions?
    Chris

    1. For problems related to Microsoft Office you should post your questions to Microsoft's own Mac discussions:
    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups
    2. If you want to "forward-delete" on a Mac without hitting the function key, then you'll have to purchase a full size Apple USB keyboard.
    3. Sorry. Can't help with that one. Maybe you should have bough a ligther 15" Powerbook.
    4. Again, sorry, but that's not a bug, it's a learning curve. Longtime Windows users seem to be more often than not used to working with applications and windows that cover the whole screen. Mac users generally don't. Just drag the windows over to the right or click the green maximize button at the top left of each window.

  • Microsoft Office for Mac open recent File menu option causing AFP to crash

    Hi all,
We have an Xserve running Mac OS X Server Leopard 10.5.8. The Xserve hosts three file shares for about 60 users. Our network is 99% Mac based running mostly 10.5.8 with a few 10.6.x. We have historically over the past several years had the AFP service become unreliable and crash frequently. Late last week the AFP service crashes constantly. The quick solution to getting it up and running is to delete the AFP.conf file in /etc.
We have troubleshot one cause of AFP crashing to the Open Recent... File menu option in Microsoft Office for Mac applications. That is, through some amount (haven't been able to narrow it down to how much) of opening documents on the share via the Open Recent menu the AFP service will crash.
Here's what's happening in the AppleFileServer .crash file:

Our solution is to have all our users turn off the open recent option in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Not an ideal solution but it may get the AFP service running "good enough."
Has anyone had an experience like this before or can anyone duplicate the AFP service crashing when trying to open documents on a share via the open recent menu? Any other ideas?
    Thanks

    Update.
I have been able to consistently reproduce a problem where the AFP service will crash if a file that a user has an alias to is moved to a folder and the user is denied access to .
    1. On your Mac create an alias to a file or folder, that you have access to, that is stored on a share served via AFP. The alias can be in the Places section of a Finder window, on the Desktop, or anywhere an alias can be created. Lets call what the alias points to the target.
    2. Move the target to a folder on the AFP share and deny the user or group Read & Write access to that folder.
    3. Try accessing the target via the alias created in step 1.
    The AFP service should crash.
Can anyone reproduce this crash scenario too?

  • Problem with MS Office for Macs, can someone please help?

I am using MS Office for Macs 2011 on my new MBA, and have encountered a pretty annoying issue when I transfered all my Excel, Word & PP documents from my old Sony PC.  When I open an Excel spreadsheet for example, the computer also opens every single OTHER speadsheet.  Since I have over 30 Excel documents, this obviously becomes very annoying and time-consuming!  The same thing happens when I try to open a Word or PP document.  Is there some setting that I need to change to have only the document I actually want to open?  All the documents were created on older versions of MS Office, but I doubt this is the problem.  Can someone help please?  Thanks!

You could also try deleting the microsoft preference files, incase something has gone amiss there.
Make sure all Office application are quit fully
    Go to User/[unername]/Library/Preferences
    Look for
    com.microsoft.Excel.plist
    com.microsoft.office.plist
    com.microsoft.Word.plist
    com.microsoft.Powerpoint.plist
Outlook is there too, so if it is causing you issues, you can delete them too
Next time you open your office applications, the new prefernce files are created. Any particular preferences that you had set will of course need to be reset as they are now all new (default) again.
Another thing to check is in you System Preferences - General
Do you have the 'close windows when quitting an application' checked? if not, checking it may fix the issue.

  • IMac Freezing & Microsoft Office for Mac

I took my 7 day old iMac back to the store I purchased from. After two days of solid testing, the techs there were unable to make my machine freeze or crash. This is after I experienced either a freeze or completely black screen/reboot every 2 to 5 minutes.
I brought the machine back to my office, fired it up and you guessed it...it froze. Here's the thing...the only software open was Microsoft's Entourage.
Yeah, I know...seems to go against all things good to have to load Microsoft products on a Mac, but my clients all use Office.
I uninstalled Entourage and so far so good...no crashing or freezing or black screens or anything.
I'm keeping a log of the software I have open for the next few days just in case the freezing happens again. That way, I'll know exactly what I have open at the time of the failure.
So I'm wondering if anyone else with a freezing iMac has Office 2004 loaded and could this perhaps be the culprit?

    Hi Bee,
Thanks for the welcome. My original post about my iMac problems are over in the Freezing iMac thread. After talking with AppleCare, I decided to take my new machine back to the store I bought it. They are what I think called a boutique Mac store. Anyway, they have a 7 day return policy...get all your money back.
I was so frustrated with the freezing, crashing, black screens, I went in with the intent of returning it for a refund. This small neighborhood store has been averaging selling 3 iMacs a week for since these Alum ones were released. Mine is the only one they have heard of with these issues. They were mystified and were really curious about this problem.
Anyway, I uninstalled the trial software before installing my copy of Microsoft Office. So even though your suggestion is very thoughtful and helpful, it doesn't apply to my machine.
I'm going to continue to monitor and record what I'm doing, although if I have many more unproductive days due to this machine, I will simply have to return it. As I've posted before, I'm self-employed...no workey, no eatey.
I was just wondering since Office for Mac 2004 was written as universal and not specifically for Intel Macs, could they be the culprit...although it looks like the problem people are having is pretty wide and so most likely the software is not the problem. Just trying to grasp for an answer...

  • Office for mac not working for all users after migration

Recently purchased macbook retina display and used migration assistant to move everything over from a macbook pro 17" (late 2011). After the migration my login (admin rights) has no problem on the new macbook, but my wife login cannot use the Office for Mac without being asked to do an install.
Problem is, the version we have goes through the install and then asks to 'register' the product and the version is no longer supported so you cannot register, therefor the program will not run.
Am I missing something here? Everything still works on both of our sign in's on the old macbook pro, and on the new macbook retina, office works on my sign in only.
The original install was a download version, so there are no 'disks' to do a re-install.
    Any suggestions?

    You need Acrobat 7.1
Is your Office 2004 up to date?

  • Iwork or appleworks or office for Mac - which one?

I have just purchased a Mac mini - my first Mac ever! My first surprise was that it didn't come with bundled software, no word processor, no spread sheet, no outlook (or equivalent). it does have something called ilife but i haven't found out what that does. My needs are simple; all I want is to be able to access my emails through something like outlook, write letters and use a spread sheet. My husband also bought an apple so it would be good to be able to sync our emails as we use the same address. iwork doesn't have spread sheet functionality and neither provides an environment for accessing / sending emails nor a sync capability. Appleworks seems to have some issues with future support and doesn't provide the email / sync options. office for Mac seems to have some issues with functionality (cf microsoft office). Does anyone have any solutions that are not going to cost me more than the MAC itself?

When Apple created a distinctly consumer line of computers it began bundling AppleWorks and a few other programs (which varied from time to time). I’m surprised that Apple has chosen to replace AppleWorks with an incomplete iWork product and stop bundling.
iLife is the package that includes iTunes (for organizing your music), iPhoto (for organizing your digital photographs, iMovie (for editing your movies), and iDVD (for creating your own DVDs from your own music, movies, and photos). It is an incredible package but, of course, doesn’t include word processor, spreadsheet, or database. But you have missed Mail, a very powerful email program. Give it a look.
AppleWorks isn’t going to be supported any long, that’s true, but it currently works quite well and while it isn’t going to be supported in the future, if you found it in a bargain bin it would be well worth getting. Mariner Software makes Mariner Write and Calc and bundles the 2 for under $100. I’ve used both. Does Microsoft sell a student version of Office in the UK? If you have a student in the household you have a legitimate right to buy it. Office might not be available in an Intel native version yet (Universal Binary) but I’m aware of no problems - I’ve been using it with my mini for over a month. RagTime is an all-in-one product like AppleWorks and is offered free for non-commercial use. As such it is well worth the time to download and test out.
