Office Web Apps Attachment Preview Fails When Capital Letter in File Name Extension

It appears that when we send any attachments that contain a capital letter in the filename extension, and try previewing the attachment from within Outlook Web Access, the server returns an Internal Server Error 500 with the following response:

This happens on the network call for:
https://exchange.mydomain.com/owa/[email protected]/service.svc?action=GetWacIframeUrl&ID=-2&AC=1
I have tried with varying attachment file names and it consistently only happens if there is a capital in the extension.  For example:
.pdf - Works
.PDF - does not work
.Pdf - does not work
.pDf - does not work
It also seems to happen across document types, PDF, DOCX, XLSX, etc.  So that doesn't seem to be dependent either.
Anyone run into this before or is there a KB article or a setting that I am missing somewhere that explains how to resolve this? Thanks!

By default, there are 8 bindings for DOCX.  Do you see any other bindings available?

  • Installing Office Web Apps Server 2013 fails with app-crash during install.

    Hi Folks,
I am trying to install Office Web Apps Server 2013 with SP1 on Server 2012 R2.  The installation gets half way through then crashes (it just says a problem has occurred).
The Event log only contains the message:-
     MsiExec.exe version .5.09....
    Faulting module name: Kernelbase.dll
Exception Code 0x306d7363, Faulting process id: 0x774.
Does anyone know how to install this product on Server 2012 R2?

    Hi,
I’m afraid that this case is off-topic in this forum, About installation of Office Web Apps Server 2013, I suggest you posting your case to

  • Office Web Apps - Preview Sharepoint 2010 documents in Sharepoint 2013 Search Results

    Hi,
We have a Sharepoint 2013 search site collection. The content sources for the Search service application includes some Sharepoint 2010 sites. We also have Office Web Apps server deployed. When searching for documents, the OWA preview works for all the document
in local sharepoint 2013 farm. However document preview doesn't work for documents in the sharepoint 2010 farm.
    Any idea why this happens?
    Regards,
    Muthu

Could you please elaborate more on open url / please give us some syntax how to use that is display template?
When we use open url do we still need to install office webapps in the 2010 environment?

  • OWA Blank Attachment Preview with Office Web Apps Server

Environment:  Exchange 2013 CU3 / Office Web Apps Server 2013
    OS:  Windows Server 2012 R2
After implementing Office Web Apps server per the Integration with Exchange 2013 instructions, attachment previews in OWA show up as blank windows.  The pop up says Opening your mailbox, then goes blank.  I have the WAC endpoint configured in Exchange,
I can access the discovery URL from the Exchange servers, and I am seeing event 142.  Some forums say that these events should be in the CAS application logs.  I am seeing mine in the Mailbox server app logs.  Has anyone seen a similar issue.
I have also attempted to view the ULS logs on the Office Web Apps server, but I don't see anything that looks like a rendering request.  But, I also don't know what that request would look like.  The Exchange and Office Web Apps server are
in the same network with no firewall in between them The local firewalls have also been turned off, so any type of blockage should not be the issue.

I dont want to be happy too soon, but i think for me this did the trick:
from time to time, this event appeared in the application eventlog:
    Source: MSExchange Certificate Deployment
    Event ID: 2005
    Task Category: General
    Level: Warning
    Keywords: Classic
    Description:
Federation or Auth certificate not found: ED2C3E86EBE821AAC2C0DEA85CAB5787E2CAC5F3. Unable to find the certificate in the local or neighboring sites. Confirm that the certificate is available in your topology and if necessary, reset the certificate on the Federation
Trust to a valid certificate using Set-FederationTrust or Set-AuthConfig. The certificate may take time to propagate to the local or neighboring sites.
The solution was found here: http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/512374-missing-the-microsoft-exchange-server-auth-certificate
    1. New-ExchangeCertificate -KeySize 2048 -PrivateKeyExportable $true -SubjectName "cn= Microsoft Exchange Server Auth Certificate" -DomainName "*.yourdomain.com" -FriendlyName "Microsoft Exchange Server Auth Certificate" -Services smtp
Do not accept to replace the SMTP certificate when prompted
    2. Note the thumbprint of the new certificate. Let us assume it is 7A39541F8DF58D4821967DD8F899B27410F7C081
    3. $a=get-date
    4. Set-AuthConfig -NewCertificateThumbprint 7A39541F8DF58D4821967DD8F899B27410F7C081 –NewCertificateEffectiveDate $a
Accept to continue despite the fact that the certificate effective date is not 48 hours into the future
    5. Set-AuthConfig –PublishCertificate
    6. Make sure to remove any potential reference to the previous certificate (which might not exist anymore) by doing Set-AuthConfig -ClearPreviousCertificate
Maybe this helps some of you too.

  • Office Web Apps - Preview not appearing when acccessing via HTTPS

I have installed Sharepoint 2013 and Office Web Apps, set the wopibinding, and set the wopizone to be https-external. Everything seems to work fine if accessing the web app using HTTP (can open, edit, preview office web app (WAC) documents)... but if
I access via HTTPS then I run into a mixed content error when trying to preview the WAC documents... I can open them and edit them without issue using office web apps inside the browser though just not preview.
If I select "New document" it also takes a while to load and displays a blank pop up window... assume it must be related
    Error message:

    Hi  ,
Before you configure SharePoint 2013 to use Office Web Apps Server via HTTPS, make sure that you have set up Office Web Apps Server by following the steps in Deploy
a single-server Office Web Apps Server farm that uses HTTPS or Deploy a multi-server, load-balanced Office Web Apps Server farm
    that uses HTTPS.

Receiving the following messages by clicking on the Preview link next to the attachment:
Word Document : "Sorry, there was a problem and we can't open this document. If this happens again, try opening the document in Microsoft Word."
Excel Document: "We couldn't find the file you wanted. It's possible the file was renamed, moved or deleted"

  • Exchange Office Web Apps Preview Does not work in OWA. An error occurred while the document preview was being created

    Hi,
I have managed to configure intergration between Office Web App server 2013 and Exchange 2013 OWA.
I have created a test users Test1 and Test 2. I have given full access on Test2 mailbox to user test 1.
When I login to owa for user test1 and preview the attachment it works fine.
However when I use "Open another mailbox" in OWA and open test2 mailbox and try to preview the attachments in test2 inbox it errors as
" An error occurred while the document preview was being created. Please try again later " as follows
I am new to office web apps server 2013 and implemented it first time. Can anyone suggest resolutions or troubleshooting ?

    Hi,
To narrow down the cause, I’d like to recommend the following troubleshooting:
    1. Does the error appear when you directly access test 2 mailbox through OWA?
    2. Check if there is 141 error in your event log.
    3. Check whether Office web app server connects with Exchange server when the issue happens.
    Access the URL: https://hostname/hosting/discovery
    4. Grant full access permission again and check the result.
For more information about Office web app integration with Exchange, please refer to the following article:
    http://www.msexchange.org/articles-tutorials/exchange-server-2013/management-administration/exchange-2013-office-web-apps-server-integration.html

  • Should the Edit in Browser link appear when Office Web Apps is read only?

    Hi,
We have deployed an Office Web Apps farm in read only mode for licensing reasons.
There is a binding between SharePoint 2013 and the Office Web Apps farm, everything is working well, except the option to Edit Office documents using Office Web Apps is quite prominent on the ECB menus and document previews.
Is anyone able to advise whether this is expected behaviour? When the link is clicked a friendly error message states that licensing doesn't support editing, which is correct. I'm just trying to see if the user experience can be improved by a setting that
we've missed somewhere along the line.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Per my knowledge, if you have configured Office Web Apps for SharePoint, the Edit in Browser option will appear in the ECB menu regardless of the licensing of the Office Web Apps.
So I recommend to use CSS code to hide the Edit in Browser option if you do not want the user to use it.
Edit the page of the document library view page, and then add a Content Editor web part to the page.
After that add the code below to the Content Editor web part:
    <style>
    a[Title="Edit in Browser"]{
    display:none !important;
    </style>
    Thanks,

  • Office Web Apps - Preview Sharepoint 2010 documents in Sharepoint 2013 Search Results...again

    Hi,
I found a thread in this forum With an answere to a similiar question here:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/28bc1e27-4a65-4c61-9b3e-cb9dad17f779/office-web-apps-preview-sharepoint-2010-documents-in-sharepoint-2013-search-results?forum=sharepointsearch&prof=required
    ...With the answere:
"OWA uses an access token to talk to SharePoint 2013.  It cannot use this when talking to 2010.  In order to work with 2010, you have to create a custom display template that converts the file url to an openurl link. "
    BUT...
may anyone give more information how to do this?
Links to articles? Links to description and samples?
    jik

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to preview documents from SharePoint 2010 in search results in SharePoint 2013.
Per my knowledge, the Office Web Apps is configured to work with SharePoint 2013, so it will not work with documents in SharePoint 2010.
I recommend to configure Office Web Apps to work with SharePoint 2010
and make sure that documents can be previewed in SharePoint 2010 using Office Web Apps to see if the documents can be previewed in SharePoint 2013 search result.

  • Office Web Apps Issue - "Sorry, something went wrong" message when opening a document (any MS docx, ppt etc) in IE. With Chrome, it pops (Microsoft Office needs your permission) message and on RUN, it opens the document.

When opening any Microsoft documents ( docx, ppt etc) in SharePoint 2013,
Internet Explorer behavior : "Sorry, something went wrong" An unexpected error has occurred message and then nothing happens.
In Chrome : Pops (Microsoft Office needs your permission) message and on clicking RUN, it opens the document.
In Firefox : the documents opens, after asking which application do you want to use to open it.
The feature (Open Documents in Client Applications by Default) is not activate.
Why the MS documents are not working in IE 10?

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you failed to open Microsoft documents in SharePoint 2013.
I recommend to Run the following PowerShell in OWA Server :
Remove-OfficeWebAppsHost # To Remove any restriction
    Or
New-OfficeWebAppsHost -Domain <String> # To allow specific domain Name
In addition, you can allow OAuth via HTTP using the following commands:
    $config = (Get-SPSecurityTokenServiceConfig)
    $config.AllowOAuthOverHttp = $true
    $config.Update()

  • Exchange 2013 OWA published through TMG: Unable to preview documents with Office Web App server

We configured our Exchange 2013 servers to use Office Web App for document previews on OWA. Everything works fine internally, and externally also when we access OWA directly. But when from an outside network we open a OWA session through TMG and try to preview
a document, we get the error "Sorry we cannot open this document, an error occured . . ."
Did anyone experience such an issue ?
    Thanks,
    Antonio

    Hello,
Since directing accessing OWA from CAS is fine and the issue only occur when involving TMG, I think the issue is more related to TMG settings. Please find more efficient support

Did you install SharePoint 2010 SP1 (or preferably, SP2)?
    Foundation SP2:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39646
    Server SP2:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39672
If you have SharePoint Foundation, use the Foundation SP2 link. If you have SharePoint Server, use the Server SP2 link. Install that first, then proceed with your OWA SP2 install.

  • Exchange Office Web Apps Preview Does not work in OWA (web)

I have setup Exchange 2013, Lync 2013, SharePoint 2013, IIS as a Reverse Proxy Server, an Office Web Apps Server, etc, etc. Everything is setup to use SSl (https) and everything works great EXCEPT... Office Web Apps... and ONLY via Exchange and OWA (exchange
    browser-based access).
I can login via the intranet or Internet for everything (SharePoint, Outlook, and Lync) and Office Web apps functionality works flawlessly for all... except for Exchange and OWA.
If I login in to a web-based Exchange seeion, everything works right and I can see the various attachments.
For all other scenarios, Office Web Apps works (SharePoint, Outlook, Lync, etc), but in owa (web version of Outlook) I see that Office Web Apps is triggered (I see the Office Web Apps text and the dots that indicate something is loading)... However, it just
crashes and eventually times out (see image):
If I look in the error logs for the Web Apps Server I see this:
Essentially, it looks like that owa uses a distinctly different path to load the attachments into the Web Apps Server such that the file is not found!
What is happening? Why does Exchange OWA (web version of Outlook) somehow use a different path that fails to locate  attachments in Office Web Apps, but Lync, Outlook, and SharePoint (both in Intranet and Internet) work perfectly?
This is VERY frustrating. Can anyone help?
    Please?
Clearly, the reverse proxy is working, the certificates are working, OAuth is working, etc. It seems there must be some variable/path that is only defined in Exchange for OWA that uses a different path for Office Web App attachments and that path is WRONG!
    Please, help!
    Thanks

  • Got errors when trying to open word document with Office Web App Server and customized WOPI host

I am configuring the Office Web App Server with our ASP.NET MVC WOPI host based on this example. https://code.msdn.microsoft.com/office/Building-an-Office-Web-f98650d6. While both the OWA server and WOPI server has been set up and I can use Excel and PowerPoint
app to open and edit xls and ppt file now, there are problems opening word documents no matter I enable or disable the editing function of OWA server.
When I open a word document while enabling editing I got this error:
If I disable editing I got this message:
I have tried several file so I thought it is not the files' problem. Also I didn't find any exception in the log of OWA server.

    Hi Gary Jiang,
Thanks for posting in MSDN forum.
This forum is for developers discussing issues about
    apps for Office.
Based on the description, it seems that you got an issue when you deploy the code sample. If I understood clearly, I suggest that you contact the author of the code sample from the "Q and A" tab.
Also if you have the question about WOPI, I suggest that you get more effective response from
    Office
    Protocols forum.
