Officejet 6500 wireless printer won't scan in Windows 8.1

My 6500 won't scan.
I read in my Windows 8.1 for dummies that it may be too old.
I purchased it in the summer of 2010.
After I plugged my printer into my new Windows 8.1,  I performed a 'test' through a wizard that claimed 'scan successful' but I have no icin on my desktop (like I did when my printer was hooked up to my old XP computer), and so have no way to access the scanner comtrols.
Any suggestions?

Hi eliann77,
I would recommend that you make sure all of your Windows Updates have been done first. If there is still no change after that, please try installing the printer via the in operating system driver, and see if you're able to scan that way with the Windows software. If that works I would recommend sticking with that method, because I believe your Dummies book may be right that this printer is too old for Windows 8.1.
I hope this information has been helpful and I hope you have a great weekend

I don't get it, I read one post about why would we have to buy an AirPrint Printer when we have used the "print to a wifi printer" just fine in the past?  Yes I feel that's exactly what's happening to me now too. I want to print from my iPhone and iPad to my WiFi Printer which is also now connected to my Airport Express WiFi network just fine. No problems.

  • How to print doc from my kindle fire to a hp officejet 6500 wireless printer

I have a kindle fire and a hp officejet 6500 wireless  printer. How do I connect the 2 and print a document that is on my kindle? They are both in the same house

    Hi,
    Please try:
From a supported app, find the Print option from the app's menu, and then tap Print .
Find the option to select your printer. The Kindle device displays a list of printers that are available on the Wi-Fi network.
Find your printer on the Wi-Fi list, and then tap to select it. Once you select the printer, your device remembers the selection.
If your printer is not on the Wi-Fi list or if you want to use the wireless direct connection method instead, find your printer on the Wireless Direct list, and then tap to select it. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the connection. Once your printer is connected, your device remembers the selection.
Make any changes to the available printing options, if desired.
Tap Print to send the print job to the printer.
Pleae note: Only "Fire OS 3.0 (Mojito) devices such as the Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire HDX tablets support Printing from Kindle."

  • HP OfficeJet 6500 Wireless Printing

I have had this printer for 3 or 4 years and have had trouble from day 1.  I'm ready to chuck it and NEVER buy an HP product again.
The latest issue started with my brand new computer telling me that I have no printers installed.  When I ran the troubleshooter on the printer, it said that the print spooler service was stopped and restarted it.  That worked for 1 day.  Now the print service will not stay on for even 2 seconds, and the printer does not show up in Device Manager.
The wireless transmitter light is sometimes OFF on the printer, but turning it back on does not fix the problem.  And...it won't stay on.
So, am I missing something?  Or has the wireless transmitter on the printer failed completely?  (And has it been failing for years...causing all these issues that I have tried a million different fixes for?)

    Hi VJP,
You mentioned you were able to install the software, are you able to print now?
Is the Print Spooler still running?
Are you having the same issue on both computers? (print spooler error)
The Print and Scan Doctor failed.
Make sure you are signed in as the Admin when installing the printers.
To try and resolve the Print Spooler error, please try the following:
Go to the Control panel, open Programs and Features, click Turn Windows features on or off on the left side of the window.
Click the + sign beside Print and Document Services.
Select LPD and LPR. You should remove Internet Printing Client.
Restart your PC to ensure there is no errors of spooler service.
    Add your printer driver again.
I would recommend to contact Microsoft if the issue persists with the Print Spooler.
    Thank You.

  • HP Officejet 6500 wireless printer

I replaced my black ink cartridge (large size) and cannot print because of Ink System Failure.  The HP ink cartridge was "refilled" with black ink.  It is the second refill of this  HP cartridge.  The printer is about 8 years old and was working great prior to this.  Has HP modified there software to not allow refilled cartridges??  HELP? I need my printer.
    Thanks

Is there an error number associated with the ink system failure message on the printer's front panel? The document here may help.
In some cases removing the printhead and cleaning the ink buildup on the printhead can help resiolve ink system failure messages.  The post here has instructions for removing and soaking the printhead.
Finally, if your printer is eight years old and the printhead has never been replaced it may have reached the end of its life.  The printhead on this model is a replaceable part, it can be replaced as described in this document.

  • Scanning with HP Officejet 6500 Wireless All-in-One Printer - E709n using Windows 7 Pro editition

I have had this printer for many years and it was fully operational only for the first two years of its link to my computer.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software many times with no success.  The Printer/Scan doctor does not solve the problem  and gives an error HP Twain Scan.  The HP Scan Flow Manager also says that software components are missing The printer works fine but the scanner in the solution center always responds with a error code saying installation is incomplete, "reinstall HP Photosmart software that came with the device and try scanning again" .  The extended error information is  4,[2,0,80040154), (0,0,0),(3,56,0)] Another computer, my wife's laptop, running Windows 8 was operational until the end of May 2015, and she is also getting this error code with her computer.  This has got to be the most annoying all-in-one I have ever used.  I have a Canon all in one at work that I have used with the laptop and the all operating features are mindless...it just works.  HP software must have compatibility issues either related to operating systems updates or security software.  My computer uses AVG, the laptop uses McAffee and beither scanner operates with this printer. I need to get this scanner operational!

  • Using HP Officejet 6110 and Officejet 6500 wireless issues

I have been using an HP Offciejet 6110 printer for a long time with an HP laptop running WINXP. I purchased a new HP laptop running WIN7.  The WIN7 laptop will print to the 6110 in color only and doesn't allow the HP Imagimg Director software to work.
I recently purchased a new HP Officejet 6500 wireless printer and set that up to run off the HP laptop with WIN7 using the full software install.  That seems to be working OK.
I then setup theold  XP laptop using only the drivers for the Officejet 6500 so I could still use the Officejet 6110 from that computer and all the scanning and other features of the HP Imageing Director software.   But it appears that the Officejet 6500 drivers have scewed up the Officejet 6110 software drivers on the XP laptop. How do I get this computer back to using the 6110 as normal (which was very useful) but be able to use the 6500 as an optional printer without all the 6500 features?

    Hi dresdenron,
Thanks for clarifying the issue again. I was a bit confused.
How is the Officejet 6500 and Officejet 6110 setup on the Windows XP? (USB, Wireless)
Both models use completely different software. So there shouldn't be any interference even if the full software had been installed for the Officejet 6500. If both printers are connected by a USB cable, then the Officejet 6500 might have taken over the port and therefore causing the scan not to work.
What happens when you try to scan? (error message)
Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. Find and fix common printer problems using HP diagnostic tools for Windows?
If the issue persists, uninstall and reinstall the Officejet 6110. This way it will be recognized on the new port assigned.
    Uninstalling the Printer Software.
HP Officejet and PSC Full Feature Software and Driver.
What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor? (did it print or scan, any error messages)
The Officejet 6110 is a Windows Update for Windows 7. There is no HP Imaging Director software available to run on Windows 7. Installing the Printer Software in Windows 7 for a USB Cable Connection.
Please provide in detail the results. If I missed anything, just let me know.

  • HP Officejet 6500 Wireless/Curled corner with Ink blotch

I am printing on 5.83" x 8.27" cardstock in color.  The left hand top corner of nearly every page is turned up with a round ink blotch that smears if you touch it.   I have printed about 100 of these on new color ink cartridges and it is getting worse to the point that nearly every page now has this issue.  I have run the "clean printhead' function on the tools menu but that doesn't help.  Any suggestions?

    Hello blueeyes14,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!  I see you are running into some print quality issues when attempting to print on 5.83" x 8.27" card stock to your HP Officejet 6500 Wireless Printer. After taking a look at the Supported Card Sizes, the card stock you are using is not supported. With that being said, there could be a few factors that are causing the issue you are experiencing:
    1. The card stock may be to thick, so the ink is not able to properly dry before it finishes the print causing the blotch and curl. (I understand you may have had successful prints with that cardstock size, that does not mean it is supported)
    2. I notice you have printed 100+ of these, please keep in mind if the printer is running for long periods of time this could cause it to overheat and not work properly.
Can you please let me know what the weight of the card stock is you are using?
I will watch for your reply.
    Thanks,
    HevnLgh

  • HP 6500 Wireless Printer Stopped Printing Black Ink When Connected to PC

My printer stopped printing with black ink.  All the other colors seem to work fine.  I hooked up my Mac to test and see if that worked and it did!  I've concluded that it's something to do with the driver since it worked on my Mac, so I re-installed the driver and it still does not print black ink while trying to print from our Dell PC.  Any Ideas?

    Hello Libertyb,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your Officejet 6500 stop printing black ink on your Windows computer. What is your operating system on your computer? Windows.
How is this printer connected? Wireless or USB?
What type of programs are you printing from?

  • Can "HP Officejet 6500 Wireless" connect in dual mode?

    Hello,
I have just purchased "Officejet 6500 Wireless" printer, and have installed with USB to my desktop computer.
My desktop does not have a wireless connection, it is hardwired to my wireless router port.
My other laptops are connected wireless to the same router.
Can I connect my other laptops (wireless) to the printer, while the printer is connected to the desktop via USB?
In other words, can it print from the desktop computer, and at the same time print from a laptop wireless?
    Thanks in advance.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Yes you can, but there is no reason to do so.
Your wireless router (like all of them) treats all its clients equally, whether they are connected by Ethernet wire or wirelessly. Furthermore, all clients can communicate with each other regardless of how they are connected.
I recommend that you connect your printer to your router with a wired connection if you can (its easier and more reliable) and if you cannot because it is not near the router, connect it wirelessly.   Then you can disconnect the USB to your desktop and all computers on the network can use it.

  • Apple macbook air compatibility with HP Officejet 6500 Wireless

    Two questions
    1. If I buy a new current model  MacBook Air, will it work with my HP Officejet 6500 Wireless printer?
    2. Sometimes when I power up the printer, it can take as long as five minutes to register "ready." Why the erratic time to go online?
    Thanks
    TT95

Thanks for your swift reply to the Apple/HP compatibility question.  Trust it will work when I buy MacBook Air. The HP app available at iTunes store helped us make our older Apple IPad print compatible even though the HP 6500 Wireless is not equipped with AirPrint.
Regarding slowness of HP 6500 to reach "Ready" stage for printing. This is a printer for home use, so it not on a network. It always eventually prints.
    Your help is much appreciated.

  • Officejet 6500 Wireless -- Error status

I have a one-month-old Officejet 6500 wireless printer.  It was successfully installed wirelessly and working well.  But... I've upgraded my router to an N-router, and now cannot get the wireless printing to work.
-- running Windows Vista on my laptop computer, and computer shows 6500 printer in "error" status
-- Printer sees my wireless network, and the Wireless Network Test Report shows no warnings or problems.
-- Troubleshooting menu on the printer screen tells me "There is no computer connection".
    Any tips???

First, did you keep the same SSID and password type and key from your old router?  If not, you will have to tell the printer about the new setup.
Second, does your new router operate in both 802.11n AND 802.11g mode?  If not, you will have to turn on 'g' mode somehow (usually a dual g/n mode is available) because the printer only has a 'g' radio.
If all above is OK, you may have to re-install the printer manually:
Verify that you can browse to the printer's internal web page by its IP address.
    1. Click "Start" button --> Printers.
    2. Under Printer Tasks, click "Add Printer".
    3. Click "Next" button on the Add Printer Wizard window.
    4. Select "Local printer attached to this computer". Deselect "Automatically detect and install My Plug and play printer". Click "Next".
    5. Under Select a Printer Port option, select "Create a new port" and select "Standard TCP/IP Port" and click "Next" button.
    6. In the "Welcome to the Add Standard TCP/IP printer port wizard" make sure that the printer is turned on and connected to same network that your computer is connected to. Click "Next" button.
    7. Under "Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port" enter the printer's IP address. Click "Next" then click "Finish".
    8. Now, select HP from the list of manufacturers, select your printer from the list of Printer models and click 'Next' button.
    9. If you can't find your printer, you'll need to find the install CD and use the "Have Disk" option to select one of the hp*.ini files. Alternatively, you can select another HP printer model from the same type.
    10. Add the print spooler name and click "Next".
    11. Click "Next"
    12. Click "Next" and then "Finish"
There are more things that could be wrong, but lets start here.
