Offline Backup failed : ORA-00704, ORA-00604, ORA-01089 Errors
Hi Guys
I am facing issues with Offline backup in Production system.
I had Scheduled the offline backup for sunday evening, but monday morning i found prodution box, was down and i killed the netbackup Process.
checked Oracle was up.
Just started SAP and system start running fine.
Then found that backup (offline backup) was never started.
Found following errors in alert_<sid>.log and in *.trc files:
ORA-00704: bootstrap process failure
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-01089: immediate shutdown in progress - no operations are permitted
Oracle 9.2.0.7
Windows 2000
Can you guide me on this, as this has happened second time ?
Regards
Your database was trying to shut down, but in was hanging for some reason.
not much can be done, you are using Oracle 9207, try with 9208
you ware on an unsupported Windows 2000 version.

Offline Backup fails thru DB13
Hi All,

Even "Check Database" fails to start. Only Update Statistics runs successfully.
Please do guide.
-- Best Regards,
-- Anil P. M.br*tools will automatically run
create pfile from spfile;
maybe the user running br*tools is not allowed to write the pfile (has no write access to %ORACLE_HOME%\database directory.
please check the security settings of this directory it has to have read/write access for sidadm and sapservicesid or one of the groups they are member in.
best would be to allow ORA_SID_DBA and ORA_SID_OPER groups full access on this directory.

Offline backup failing when scheduled using DB13
Hi,
We have done our backup schedule of our BI 7 system running on AIX 5.3 and Oracle 10.2 using DB13.The activities like online backup and datbase check is executing correctly but offline backup is failing with status unknown.
If i check in sm37 for the DBA job offline backup is showing status completed successfully but in brbackup logs there is no log for the offline backup activity.
Kindly provide your suggestion on how i can resolve this issue.Hi Ammey,
Thanks for your reply.
When I trigger the backup directly from brtools offline backup is happening successfully. The issue is happening only for the db13 scheduled offline backup. The same thing happened for Update statistics but check db is executed.
So what has to be checked in backint settings pls provide you suggestion.

Rman archivelog backup fails with rman-03002,ora-19563
Hi,
D:\ Oracle- -\BIN\RMAN TARGET / NOCATALOG
RMAN> backup archivelog all;
RMAN-03002: Error with backup command on 06-25-2013
ORA-19563: Header-Validation is not successful.
fails with the given errors.
11.2.0.2 PROD DB on Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterpriise.
When I issue BACKUP INCREMENTAL LEVEL 0 DATABASE; it works fine. but with archivelog it is creating problems. Unfortunatly, I have not found exactly the same problem on google and on Oracle support.
The DB is using INIT.ORA and last time when I switched the mode to archive log mode I set the parameter like SCOPE=MEMORY as SPFILE was not in use and ALTER SYSTEM with SCOPE=BOTH FRA destination and size, but after the DB restarting of course that setting is gone and I am having these problems.
Please suggest.
Thanks a lot.
Best Regards,Hi,
Thanks a lot.
I don't think that archivelogs were relocated, except I changed the location yesterday.
As I wrote at the start that because of INIT.ORA file being in use instead of SPFILE. I set DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST, DB_RECOVERY_DEST_SIZE after changing the DB mode to ARCHIVELOG, but DB was restarted by somebody else, and as the parameter changing was NOT PERMANENT, it rollback.
LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST was set to d:\oradata\db with archivelog mode but db_recovery_file_dest and size was set to 0. Now here, I have no idea that whether archivelogs were not being backed up or deleted physically, but I guess that as log_archive_dest parameter is deprecated and mode is set to archivelog with no real ARCHIVELOG DESTINATION. Please correct me if I am wrong or totally wrong :-)
I performed DELETED EXPIRED ARCHIVELOG ALL, and it deleted 49 EXPIRED objects.
Now CROSSCHECK ARCHIVELOG ALL and LIST ARCHIVELOG ALL shows nothing.
LIST BACKUP OF ARCHIVELOG ALL has of course those 49 archivelog gap.
Could you please tell the impacts of those 49 missing archivelogs. Retention policy is set to 14 days. I mean the risk is for 14 days right? As anyhow, the older backups are being DELETED according to retention policy of RMAN. -
ORA-00245: control file backup failed; target is likely on a local file sys
Hello,
our RAC (Linux, 11.2.0.3.0) is rather new and we are still on gaining experiences with that system...
When starting the backup with RMAN we are getting the following error:
Starting Control File and SPFILE Autobackup at 04-JUL-12
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-03009: failure of Control File and SPFILE Autobackup command on ORA_DISK_1 channel at 07/04/2012 16:41:48
ORA-00245: control file backup failed; target is likely on a local file system
The reason for the error is clear ORA-00245 - in a RAC environment the location of the Snapshot Controlfile must be on a shared location.
When executing the RMAN command "show all" on each node, we are getting
CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO '/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.3/db/dbs/snapcf_PROD021.f'; # default
for node #1
and
CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO '/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.3/db/dbs/snapcf_PROD022.f'; # default
for node #2
When using a shared location for the Snapshot Controlfile do we still need to setup 2 different names for that file?
CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO '/<shared location>/snapcf_PROD021.f'; # default
for node #1 and
CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO '/<shared location>/snapcf_PROD022.f'; # default
for node #2
Or should we configure just one Snapshot Controlfile?
The RMAN setup for "CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO..." must be changed on both nodes - correct?
Hopefully my question is clear enough - any help will be appreciated.
Rgds

Edited by: VivaLaVida on 05.07.2012 11:41No, it must be configured on a shared storage:Not really required, i've RAC setup and snapshot is configured on local storage.
Configuring the RMAN Snapshot Control File Location
The snapshot control file is a copy of a database control file created in an operating system-specific location by Recovery Manager. RMAN creates the snapshot control file so that it has a consistent version of a control file to use when either resynchronizing the recovery catalog or backing up the control file. In Oracle RAC, the snapshot control file is only needed on the nodes on which RMAN performs backups; the snapshot control file does not need to be globally available to all instances in an Oracle RAC environment.
See below from doc.

ORA-00704: bootstrap process failure and SYSTEM datafile corrupt
We have an Oracle 10g Express database that is getting the following error on startup.
ORA-00704: bootstrap process failure
It is also showing that the SYSTEM datafile is corrupt. And unfortunately the backups are gone. Is there any way to recover from this without a backup? Maybe some hidden undocumented parameter???
We do have some full database exports from a couple weeks ago so it is not a complete loss but would really like a full recover.Windows XP
We have tried allowresetlogs_corruption and allowread_only_corruption and no luck so far.

32bit Primary to 64bit Standby-"ORA-00704: bootstrap process failure"
Hello All,
As per the Doc ID 414043.1 it is possible to use mixed word size primary-standby configurations since 10g and better in 11g.
So i created my test env:-
OS: Linux 5.5 64bit
DB Name: TEST
Primary - TEST32 on 32bit Oracle Home
Standby- TEST64 on 64bit Oracle Home
I could apply TEST32's archive logs(manually) on TEST64 without any problem, but when i tried to migrate to 64bit it kept failed with "ORA-00704: bootstrap process failure ORA-39700: database must be opened with UPGRADE option"
What i did on TEST64 is:
1) Activate physical standby
2) Startup Upgrade
3)@?/rdbms/admin/utlirp.sql
4)@?/rdbms/admin/utlrp.sql
5)Shutdown
6)Startup
When i issue startup(step 6); it fails with

Client installation with Net Configuration-Assistant : ora-00604 / ora-0224
Hi forum,
I am trying to install a client on a remote computer with Net Configuration-Assistant. When testing connection as user system I always get oracle errors
ora-00604 / ora-0224.
When I try connection with sys the reaction is : should be done with sysdba or sysoper privilege.
On command line level I can login with : sqlplus sys/...@srvtstora:1527/oeg
where oeg is the ORACLE_SID in question and srvtstora is the PC on which the
database resides.
what can i do ?
Kind regards
Samplitudeerror ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level
ORA-00224, 00000, "controlfile resize attempted with illegal record type (%s)"
Is it what it shows?
Then there are problems with the controlfile. Make sure you have a valid backup before proceeding any further.
On the other hand, the error when connection with sys it's because you have to specify the SYSDBA/SYSOPER role at the connecting string ( sqlplus sys/SysPasswd as sysdba) -
Failed to parse SQL query: ORA-01403: no data found
I'm going to post and answer my own question in the hope that others will not have to struggle with this error.
Using a report of the type PL/SQL Function Body Returning SQL and using generic columns you may run into this error
failed to parse SQL query:
ORA-01403: no data found
The SQL will run stand alone but the report fails.
There is a setting just below the source you should check:
"Maximum number of generic report columns"
In my case the number of columns was dynamic and when it exceeded the number set as the maximium number of generic columns I received the 1403 error.
Hope this helps someone.
GregThanks for much for the pointer. For anyone else struggling with this too, I found that my generic columns had unordered themselves. Reordering them solved the problem for me.

Report failed to parse SQL query:ORA-01745: invalid host/bind variable name
Hi,
We are currently upgrading from v2.2.0.00.32 to v4.0.0.00.46.
I have copied the applications onto our test server along with the various database objects and data etc.
When I am running a report in v4, it is failing with the following error: "failed to parse SQL query: ORA-01745: invalid host/bind variable name".
When I copy the SQL that builds the report into TOAD (on out test server) it runs OK so really cant see why it would fail in APEX. It works fine when I run the query in our APEX v2 and in TOAD in our live server.
The query is as follows:
SELECT
aea.ALTERATION_ID
,aea.ALTERATION_ID "ALTERATION_ID_DISPLAY"
,aea.assembly_name "Revised BOM"
,assembly.description "Revised BOM Description"
,assembly.INVENTORY_ITEM_STATUS_CODE "Revised BOM Status"
,aea.BEFORE_CHANGE_QTY
,flv.MEANING "Alteration Type"
,aea.component_name "Part No"
,component.description "Part No Description"
,component.INVENTORY_ITEM_STATUS_CODE "Part No Status"
,aea.AFTER_CHANGE_QTY
,TO_CHAR(aea.last_update_date,'DD-MM-YYYY HH24:MI:SS')"Last Update Date"
,aea.LAST_UPDATE_BY
,aea.COMMENTS
,aea.ORACLE_CHANGE_NOTICE
,AEA.SELECTION_CRITERIA
FROM XXMEL_APEX_ECO_ALTERATIONS aea
, fnd_lookup_values flv
, (SELECT INVENTORY_ITEM_STATUS_CODE
,segment1
,description
FROM mtl_system_items_b
WHERE 1=1
AND organization_id = 26) component
, (SELECT INVENTORY_ITEM_STATUS_CODE
,segment1
,description
FROM mtl_system_items_b
WHERE 1=1
AND organization_id = 26) assembly
WHERE 1=1
AND aea.COMPONENT_NAME = component.segment1 (+)
AND aea.assembly_NAME = assembly.segment1 (+)
AND flv.lookup_code = aea.acd_type
AND aea.eco = :P13_ECO
AND flv.lookup_type = 'ECG_ACTION'
AND modify_flag = 'Y'
ANy help would be great,
Thanks
Chris
