Ogg support

Will there ever be proper, native ogg support in itunes?

"People have been asking for this ever since Ogg Vorbis only existed in beta, and I can't imagine Apple ever adding it."
Well, why not? Ogg Vorbis is open source, completey unencumbered patent-wise, and can be included without having to release the iTunes source. There is no good reason why iTunes should not support Ogg Vorbis and Ogg Theora (the video codec).
I've switched back to Winamp on my Windows box, and VLC on my Mac, until Ogg media support is added. I suggest that all fans of Ogg do the same.

• Ogg support for Creative MediaSource Pla

Hi I just started using the Creative MediaSource Player that came with the Soundblaster X-Fi Plantinum and I am trying to find out if there is ogg support for it. It doesn't seem to recognize ogg files. Does anyone know of a plugin or some way to enable ogg support for it.
Thanks,
Travis

As a Last.FM moderator we see quite a lot of threads and requests passing by for a pplugin that would allow people to "scrobble" the tracks they played on any of Creatives MP3-players. (Take a look at http://www.last.fm/forum/276/_/26462, for example). The problem Last.FM faces here is that, by the looks of it, getting a timestamped log-file from plays on a Creative-player is not possible (don't quote me here, I am just the messenger, and have hardly any knowledge concerning the plugins...)I do know that there is a community that is pretty positi've about Last.FM and that moderators nor staff can help them here. Perhaps the nice people developing the software for your players might want to take a look at the site and decide that it might be a nice idea to open up the software a bit, or develop a plugin themselfs. It might prevent people (like me) from buying an iPod, which does allow me to submit my listened songs to the site...

• Droid 2 Global: OGG supported as ringtone, but not as a playable music file?

I've been having some trouble playing .ogg music in the music player (by trouble I mean it comes back as mostly static), though Android 2.2 is supposed to support ogg natively. Motorola's site on the Droid 2 Global shows something interesting: http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/US-EN/Consumer-Product-and-Services/Mobile-Phones/ci.DROID2-Global-US-EN.alt
It lists ogg under supported ringtones but not under Playable formates. Huh? What gives? I've even tried different players that are supposed to support ogg on this phone but they do nothing. Is anyone else experiencing the same problem? How is it that the ringtone can play it but the player cannot, even though Android 2.2 supports the formate?

Oh me of little faith. The replacement phone syncs both ways. I guess there must be some data corruption that persists past a hard reset.

• Zen Xtra - OGG Supported? ++ Legit FM Transmitt

ey ey
Just two quick questions. I did a forum search on 'zen file formats' but didn't come up with anything good. Anywho, I just want to know if the Zen Xtra 60gb supports the OGG Vorbis file format. Also, is there a legit FM Transmitter for it's I see a bunch of junk ones on ebay etc.. Basically, I'm looking at getting the 60gb to just move all of my music library onto it and then use it in my car-- eliminating my cds. I think a lot of people do this so hopefully you guys (and gals) can help me with these quick questions.
Thanks

For transmitters: Creative sell a repackaged Belkin transmitter, and I hear the AudiaX transmitter is good also. There are also MANY previous threads on this with recommendations, so search back.
Ultimately FM transmitter quality is never great, and there are better methods of connecting to a car stereo. Search on "car stereo" in the FAQ post.

• I will be working on a project to migrate from Sybase ASE (15.7) to SQL Server 2014 using Oracle golden gate........I am trying to find documentation which can guide me to use a separate box installation of OGG and how to configure it for Sybase and SQL s

Hi,
I need guide to install OGG on a separate box which will help me to migrate Sybase to SQL server.
Viral Dave

hi - just an fyi
we have SQL Server 2012 and from my reads and understanding OGG supports SQL Server up to 2008. not to say it wouldn't work on higher versions if installed. in the link above check out the SQL Server installation chapter. before purchasing the license I would contact Oracle.
maybe someone here has installed it on a higher version and got it to work. we are currently working on setting up OGG to work on Oracle to Oracle servers.

Hi Riyas,
Just found a document which states that DDL replication is not supported in DB2 database.
Does Oracle GoldenGate(OGG) support DDL Replication for DB2 (Doc ID 1303729.1)

• OGG to MP3 Directory script

Hello all! I was wondering if anyone could lend a hand towards me with creating or attaining a script that would change all OGGs in a directory to WAV (using SOX) then using LAME to convert them to MP3. I have a good bit of OGG files but I would like to add these files to my ipod and and ipods don't have any OGG support, so I could really use some help.
Thanks a ton!

The half-assed approach would be to run 'oggdec *.ogg && bladeenc *.wav && rm *.wav *.ogg' but I guess that's not what you were looking for.

• What Audio Formats Does iTunes Supports?

is there a way to find out what formats iTunes supports?
for example, does iTunes support OptimFROG Loseless or FLAC Loseless?
thanks.

iTunes uses Quicktime for audio playback and plays Apple Lossless, WAV, AIFF, MP3 and AAC files. If you want to play other formats, you generally have to convert them to a format iTunes supports (I use Apple Lossless myself). iTunes to FLAC is a group of Applescripts enabling FLAC file conversion in iTunes. For a guide to enabling OGG support in iTunes, see here. Other file conversion tools I use are Max and xAct.

• OGG Vorbis supp

OGG Vorbis audio format support is a feature that lot of people are trying to find in a hard-disk based player (see www.hydrogenaudio.org).
iPod have no OGG support, and I think iRi'ver, mPio and Neuros are the only brands that can fight with Apple because their players supports more audio formats than iPod (including OGG Vorbis).
So, does Creative will add this feature in a future?.
For the Creative guys: OGG Vorbis is a patent free audio codec much better than MP3 (I know you know it) so... why not implement this easy feature and make us happy?
Alex.
P.D: sorry for my english: I'm Spanish and here in Europe the Neuros is hard to find so, if Creative adds OGG support to the Muvo or Zen players, I (and lot of audiophile geeks) will buy a Creative.

OK. I know my needs can differ from the others, but I find incredible that there're still people that don't buy a good player because it takes 0? seconds to boot.
You can't wait 0 seconds? You're so hurry? Really? Hum...
What computer do you have at home? How long it takes to boot?... This will be very annoying to you, isn't it's
(these are rhetorical questions) =;-)

Did you give the decoders install enough time to search for supported formats during the install?
I've got 135 songs and it took a little while to install.
Other than that, do you have a memory card installed? If so, try using File manager to copy a few tracks to a new folder on the memory card and try playing them from within File manager. That may wake things up, but give the phone time to update it's playlists.
Those "Could not get files by MIME type, Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)" messages could mean that the decoders couldn't find any supported file types, i.e .ogg, FLAC etc.

• Adding sound to game application

Can anyone assist me or provide a link as to how I can add sound to an application(non-applet)? In this case it is a space invaders clone tutorial; now I would like to add sound to when either the player or the aliens fire a laser. The problem is that I'm not sure how to do it. I initially tried using the AudioStream attribute from the sun.audio class but it did not work. Also I would like to add new images to the game background but when I add images to the panel, it does not appear when executed; the game loop I think affects this. Here is some code snippets:
The initial setup function:
public Game() {
//ImagePanel p1 = new ImagePanel(new ImageIcon("City.png").getImage());
// create a frame to contain our game
JFrame container = new JFrame("Space Invaders 101");
// get hold the content of the frame and set up the resolution of the game
JPanel panel = (JPanel) container.getContentPane();
panel.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(800,600));
panel.setLayout(null);
// setup our canvas size and put it into the content of the frame
setBounds(0,0,800,600);
panel.add(this);
// Tell AWT not to bother repainting our canvas since we're
// going to do that our self in accelerated mode
setIgnoreRepaint(true);
// finally make the window visible
container.pack();
container.setResizable(false);
container.setVisible(true);

// do we'd like to exit the game
container.addWindowListener(new WindowAdapter() {

for basic sounds, you can use the JavaSound API.

may cause Freecraft to fail to compile, but usually doesnt. High
Optimization will also increase compile times.
Which Optimization Mode do you wish to use?
N - Normal Optimization, used in Production Binaries.
H - High Optimization, not recommended.
Please enter selection (n):
-> Using normal optimization.
Compiler is gcc 4.1.2
Optimization Menu Disabled: Not running GCC 3.2.x

It seems freecraft is rather old and may have problems compiling with gcc 4.
This debian page says freecraft was replaced by stratagus.
According to wikipedia this happened somewhere in 2003.

• Can anyone help me trying to build scummvm-svn?

• [OpenBox]"Moc Controller" Pipemenu script

Hey guys,
I really like Moc and I use Openbox. My aim was to use Rootmenu to control and see song played.
So, I decided to write a script with all fonctions I needed. I just wanna precise that I imagine there is already something like that, but i didn't find it.
And I'm proud to use my work for my system.
I will explain you how it works:
If you didn't launched Moc, it will show you a message and it won't show "Controls" section:
If you started Moc but not listening to music, it shows:
An optional info is "Bitrate", you can activate it (uncomment lines on script). Disabled by default:
When the track is paused, you'll see that info:
For wave files, there aren't id3 tags and it can't show a good tilte, so it shows a message:
I did many improvements under the script and I'll add for sure others informations (.ogg support). If you have some questions, you can ask me here.
Current version is 1.06. You can download it here: https://github.com/Ypnose/Openbox/blob/ … mocinfo.sh
I recently added a better support when the file (.mp3) has bad tags. That's why, I used to query title:
mocp -i | grep Title | sed -e 's/&/&/' -e 's/Title: //' -e '/^Song/d'
instead of:
mocp -i | grep SongTitle | sed -e 's/&/&/' -e 's/SongTitle: //'
Indeed, when the file has no tags except for Title, if you use 2nd command, you will have a strange name. With the first one, you have the entire title.
Cheers guys!

Hello,
I have ported it to Python 3 and to not generate XML by hand. But it seems that Gio has problems on Python 3. On my machine it Segfaults (see comment in the code).
#!/usr/bin/env python3
# -*- coding: utf-8 -*-
from xml.etree import ElementTree as ET
from gi.repository import Gio
def main():
sub_id = 0
_volmon = Gio.VolumeMonitor()
# The next line gives a Segfault on my up-to-date ArchLinux system
drives = _volmon.get_connected_drives()
root = ET.Element('openbox_pipe_menu')
for drive in drives:
volumes = drive.get_volumes()
if volumes:
drive_name = drive.get_name()
_id = 'drives-sub-menu-{}'.format(sub_id)
menu = ET.SubElement(root, 'menu',
attrib={'id': _id, 'label': drive_name})
for volume in volumes:
volume_name = volume.get_name()
volume_id = volume.get_identifier('unix-device')
mount = volume.get_mount()
icon = volume.get_icon()
if isinstance(icon, Gio.ThemedIcon):
icon_name = icon.get_names()[0]
else:
icon_name = ''
if mount:
volume_name = '[{}]'.format(volume_name)
item = ET.SubElement(
menu, 'item', attrib={'label': volume_name,
'icon': icon_name}
action = ET.SubElement(item, 'action',
attrib={'name': 'Execute'})
command = ET.SubElement(action, 'command')
_mnt = 'un' if mount else ''
command.text = 'udisksctl {}mount -b {}'.format(_mnt, volume_id)
sub_id += 1
return root
if __name__ == '__main__':
root = main()
print(ET.dump(root))
Maybe I am missing a package.

hi - just an fyi
we have SQL Server 2012 and from my reads and understanding OGG supports SQL Server up to 2008. not to say it wouldn't work on higher versions if installed. in the link above check out the SQL Server installation chapter. before purchasing the license I would contact Oracle.
maybe someone here has installed it on a higher version and got it to work. we are currently working on setting up OGG to work on Oracle to Oracle servers.
