OK....calling all Mac Nerds especially IWeb for a good laugh!

NOW I AM REALLY ******.  The first time I made it funny for you to read about not even knowing what an FTP is let alone where to find one.  I  don't  know what the domain file is or how to evern begin the  begin to understand the foreign tongue telling me how to do a site from two computers.   After my fimger slipped and my post delleted I retyped it and then could not remember what operating system I am on so I went to my MAC information and deleted the post again.  I could not believe my eyes when  I did  not really believe for two days I am losing all apple space in the sky for the first time in over ten years.   I started on Ilife 04 so I need help you techno types.  I shoot pictures in RAW which means each page is well over 100MB and I need it easy and not gone tomorrow.  I am broke and on disabiility but will pay if must to get my photography webstie going.  I have a dear with Apple and for over two decades he has been an engineer yet I don't want to ask him until the chimes of death are going. PLease help me.  Love you MACS!!

First thing is to create smaller jpg versions of your RAW photos to be used in your website. If you use iPhoto to manage your pictures it will do that automatically. '
First, since you're running Lion you need to be aware of the following:
In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For opening your domain file in Lion  or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
Just launch the applicaiton, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
That being said in you create a photo page in iWeb you can first assemble the photos you want on that page into an album in iPhoto.  Then select the album and use the Share ➙ iWeb ➙ Photos Page menu option.  That will give you a new photo page in your web site with the photos in the album.
Now, you should describe more clearly what you're trying to accomplish.  Do you have a doimain name?  Where are you hosting your website? If it's MobileMe then be warned that MMe will be discontinued on June 30, 2012, so you shoud start looking for a new hosting service between now and then. This may be of some help to you: Life After MobileMe.
Happy Holidays

  • Calling all Mac Expert's For your Help!!!

When Logging onto my Mac why do I have to click twice on the icon to open the password box. From the beginning, when ever I leave my Mac for any period of time I log out. It is then set to sleep after 20 min. After returning I touch ESC and the Log on window opens I have the Eagle as my icon on the Log on window. Sometimes it opens the password box after 1 click but 98% of the time I have to click twice. I went to the local Apple store & tried it on there MacBooks and it works on 1 click. They told me that there were no adjustments for this issue and they did not know why this was happening. Any help would be greatly appreciated...
    Thank you

    Welcome to the forum.
John makes a very good point on actually **** the work vs instructing other on doing it. What is your level of expertise with Photoshop? Image #1 would be rather straight-forward, but probably due to an acetate overlay, or maybe a spill, Image #2 would be a lot more work. I can recommend a couple of good books on restoring older photographs. However, some of the techniques in them are pretty advanced. If one is not already familiar with PS, they could easily be frustrated and lost.
Next, it is not a wise idea to post your e-mail address in any public forum. There are 'bots, that crawl the Internet, just looking for such. If one needs to give access to e-mail, it's best in their Adobe Forum Profile, or listed something like this: infoAThuntphotoDOTcom. The 'bots will not see that, and almost everyone know that AT=@ and DOT=. For you security, you might want to "mung" your e-mail address in a reply to your original post. You cannot edit an original post (but can a reply, so long as no one has replied to you), but the MOD's can do it for you. I would post a reply to your original post, find a way to restate your e-mail address (in case someone has a fix for you), and then report your OP for "Abuse." In that screen's drop-down, choose "Personal Info." That will flag it for the MOD's to correct and save you tons of spam. I'd do this for you, but then if you did not mung the e-dress, others would be lost. That's why I suggest that you do it yourself.
Let us know about your PS expertise, and someone can definitely step you through the processes. If you are not familiar with the program, it'l all be useless jabber.
Good luck, and sorry for your loss,
    Hunt

  • Once again,   calling all Mac users.

I have it. Took about 2 hrs to install, Very sweet interface, have, a 23" Mac screen and a 17" Still runing out of real estate. But. we can make it work I'm kinda of a thank your guy. Very much worth the 200 scoots. These cats put some awesome work into this upgrade. All other sales for Mac DAW'S have just gone by the wayside Apple, many thanks WE love ya, please listen to us!

PS -- I have no connection with Apple at all-- I guess other than my DAW. But isn't it okay to say thanks once and awhile to these whacky Apple cats? I feel they will be hearing us all more now. Specially when Logic sales skyrocket. WE all benifit.

  • Calling all mac pro quad core users

Ive been talking to vetran poster tbirdparis about a problem ive been having that might be isolated to just this model of mac, so my question is...
Is anyone else having issues with their cpu meter running Logic 7.2.x with virtual instruments ?
My problem is this, i can run 40 instances of NI massive on cubase sx 4 macintel version without any issues, however on logic 7.2.3 i can only run 20 instances before cpu meter one goes into meltdown, the crazy thing is the other 3 cpu meters appear not to be useable, as the 1st cpu meter maxes out and does not overspill to the other 3 processors, so in essence my macpro quad core acts as if its working as a single core single processor mac.
This isnt just with Ni plugins either this is with the native logic instruments too.
Anyone else having these issues ?
    I'm stumped !

Found this via Wikipedia (not the most reliable source, would rather get the opinion of someone on here with first hand experience)...
"The application also features distributed processing abilities, which can function across an Ethernet LAN. One machine runs the Logic Pro app, while the other machines on the network run the Logic node app. Logic will then offload the effects and synth processing to the other machines on the network. If the network is fast enough (i.e. gigabit Ethernet) this can work in near-real time, depending on buffer settings and CPU loads. This allows users to combine the power of several Macintosh computers for significantly enhanced processing power. However, the Logic Node application can offload processing only for Logic Pro's built-in software instruments and plug-ins, but not including Logic Pro's EXS sampler virtual instrument which is excluded from Logic Node applications capabilities. Third-party plug-ins are also not supported for Logic Node application processing."

  • Moving OLD .MAc site to iWeb

How can I import my old .Mac site to iWeb for editing and republishing under my new .Me URL?- Mark my E- Mail address is [email protected]

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Was this site created with Homepage? iWeb cannot import html files, only create them. So if you want to convert that site to an iWeb site you'll have to recreate it from scratch. However, Chapter 2.3 of the iWeb FAQ.org site has tips on using some of the published files in the reconstruction of the site.
Or, you can just leave the site where it is and link to it from your new iWeb site or embed the site into an iWeb page like this example: Embed One Site Within an iWeb Page. It's a site created with Homepage and still in the Homepage section of iDisk.

  • Using iWeb for non dot-mac sites

    Hi all,
I own a number of domains that I'd like to use iWeb on. Am I able to utilize iWeb for a non .mac domain, or do I need to use something like Dreamweaver?
    Many thanks.
    -Hugh

No, in fact I have a sneaky suspicion that not using dot-mac sites will eliminate a lot of problems other people have. You will also lose some of the effects like the nicer slideshow etc.
I have never used dot-mac and never encountered any of the uploading/publishing problems that are so often mentioned on this forum.
    Here is what you do:
After editing your website you choose :Publish to a folder.
This lets you choose a location on your hardrive into which all the necessary files will be compiled/rendered. In this folder you will find an htlm file plus a folder with the necessary files for easch of your pages.. This publishing is done lightning fasy pecause it is done locallly and not trhough your internetconnection like when you published to dot-mac. Also post-editing is easy and hassle free.
For editing and uploading my website I use "Transmit" but there are lots of other applications like "Fetch"
    What to upload?
Well I believe the jury is still out on this.
I just upload the contents of the published folder and that works for me. Other publish the whole folder plus the dummy "Index file" that is generated outside that folder. You will heve to find out for your self.
If any changes or editing has to be done afterwards, I republish and then just upload the altered files.
There is one more thing I do, and I believe others don't. I keep my domain file in the same folder where I keep the Published folder.
E.g. there is a festival website, so I have a folder "Festival" in which I keep the domains file, and the published "Festival website" folder.
This way it is easy to keep various different websites.
When you want to edit one of them, go to that folder and double click the domains file, this will start iWeb with the right website for you to edit.
    Really very easy.

My dad & I both have iPhone 5s. He no longer uses his & my screen is cracked. If I switch our SIM cards, what data will be lost? It is important for me to save/transfer all photos, video, & *especially* all text messages. When the SIM cards are swapped between phones, will any of these things be lost/deleted?

    helloitsm wrote:
Thank you! I would prefer not to wipe his phone. My cracked screen iPhone still works, so I would ideally like to put his SIM card in my phone for occasional use. As mentioned, he is not using his iPhone anymore for phone calls, but would like to maintain access to photos, video, and all texts. As I use an iPhone for calls, trading the cracked screen is ideal. If I am able to switch them without losing data, I will, but am afraid to do so if there is a chance that any data will be erased. (I'm not sure if the photos, video, and -namely- texts are saved to the actual SIM card. Can text messages be backed up?
iPhone do not store anything on the sim.
Photos should be saved on computer like any other digital camera.
You can restore the backup for your dad as well as for yourself while swapping phones.

  • Question for all you vets of iweb

i am wondering- with all the probs with iweb which yes, most are fixable, albeit with a lot of hassle and/or html knowledge, why would you not use one of the other programs listed elsewhere on the forums--like rapidweaver, softpress, etc?
it seems that they are all multi-os/browser compatible and the designs/templates look as good and easy to use as iweb. Or is this not correct?
Just wondering if any of you use them and why you choose Iweb instead?
    thx
    jim

I graduated from university with a degree in graphic design and while i feel that you don't always need to be 'artistic' to succeed in this area... it does help.
There will be those who work in design who can't draw and do better than those who can. With skills in writing you may find yourself gravitating towards the 'copy writing side of design and advertising. It's is an important skill to have, as, along side the creative element you also need to be able to put words on paper to make those scribbles 'work'
I personally work in illustration, T shirt design and print... i welcome all areas of design and art equally... but really gte off on doing what makes me happy...I've experienced the 'corporate' side of design.. and it opened my eyes up to what i want from my life... as for me, i live and love the thing..
IMHO... you can't take tests to work out where you will fit in best.. what career with suit you.. you have to try new things, meld and mould your way into tight spaces.. hard times and even tighter deadlines... as ultimately... working in design is never predictable..
Have fun, start sketching and don't worry about what anyone else thinks

hello i accidentally synced all my photos from Iphoto and they doubled, i removed them all eventually to re-import them again, but i have no camera folder anymore and i have a folder called "From Mac" how can i turn it back to normal?

That is normal for photos synced from a computer to a phone using iTunes. Synced photos were never placed in the Camera Roll. Additionally since iOS 8 there is no Camera Roll: http://appleinsider.com/articles/14/09/19/goodbye-camera-roll-where-to-find-your -photos-in-ios-8

I am running 10.6.8 and using iweb for my web site. After several SEO analysis they all indicate I need H1-6 header tags. After looking at the source code I see there are none in iweb. Are they necessary to add?  Why would one add these tags and how do I add H Tags to iweb? And are there examples to look at? I am slowly learning about simple web design and assumed that iweb was stand alone without having to write code. Is this one of the reasons iweb is no longer supported? Thanks for looking at this!

A simple text page like this:
    Heading
        sub heading
              text paragraph ....
Is traditionally represented by html tags like:
    <h1>Heading</h1>
         <h2>sub heading</h2>
              <p>text paragraph ... </p>
I would guess that the use of h1-h6 tags helps search engines to understand the structure of a page as the tags imply a certain structure.
This can be compared to more generic tags like <div> that could represent any kind of content - and may be what iWeb uses (you'll have to check yourself).
I would generally recommend that you use some kind of up to date blog/site building tool, perhaps Wordpress or Squarespace (I haven't used either one myself) that support current web technologies - this should reduce your SEO issues and make it easier to properly support mobile/tablet users.

I have a 2010 Macbook Pro and am a very new user to Mac community only started to use this PC a few weeks ago.

In order to resolve the issue if it occurs again, more info would be helpful as to what occurred prior to the "hang." One potential fix would be to try a Safe Boot:
After the Mac is completely shut down, push the power button and immediately after the startup tone, hold down the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
There should be a message that says "SafeBoot." After the Mac is completely booted, try restarting and see if the issue is gone.
