The Apple warranty does not cover accidental damage. The ipod has a liquid contact indicator installed in it, so they will know that your device was "dunked". If you set up the Find My iPod service prior to the iPod going missing, then there is a chance that can be tracked, though it depends on a number of factors (the iPod is turned on, connected to a WiFi network, and has not had the Find My iPod service disabled or the iPod been completely restored). You can then give that tracking information to the police, though it's highly doubtful they'll take any action.
If you did not set up Find My iPod, then there is no way to track it. Contact the police just in case some honest citizen turns the iPod in, and change any passwords for any online accounts you may have used from your iPod (the iTunes Store, for instance).

There are a couple of solutions to that. Most involve silica gel. Silica can be found in little packets at shoe stores and such, it absorbs water and moisture. If you set your iTouch in a bowl of it, and let it sit for 3 days, you may get it back to working.

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

They can fix it at the Apple Store. I wish you could get it fixed for free, but the warranty doesn't cover accidents like this . It sounds like you understand this, I just want to make sure you know.
