Old discs for CS3 and CS4. Any reason to keep?

I'm currently running CS6. Recently I came across old discs for CS3 and CS4. Is there any reason to keep these?

No, if you have to reinstall CS6, the serial numbers are important and if you have not already, register them with Adobe.
You can then access them under your account anywhere you have an Internet connection.
If you reinstall CS6 on another computer your CS3 or CS4 numbers are important.
If for any reason, you need to reinstall CS3 or CS4, Adobe keeps the CS3 - CS6 Trial installers online so you can download them.

  • End of Upgrade Cycle for CS3 and CS4... Really Adobe?

As if business wasn't bad enough now I see there will be no upgrade paths past december for CS3 and 4 users. Is this how Adobe plans to keep users away from stopping their upgrades and reducing the number of machines they run Adobe products on? I understand Adobe is not a non-profit and has has to turn a revenue, but the geniuses at Marketing here have made a huge mistake by basically telling their customers that what they have so far will be worth zilch in comes 2013. That arbitrary deadline, is not consider some people who on the east coast are now cash strapped as anyone having to choose between home repairs and other such marvelous stuff and upgrading to CS6 guess what they'll choose. And for the lucky ones not heavily affected by the storms, they will donate to help their community before they will spend money to upgrade perfectly good software.
It wasn't enough that the upgrade path wasn't much of a discount, but in the current economy every penny counts! The choice of stopping support for CS3 and CS4 in my personal opinion an ill-advised move. I personally went from 3 to 4 within a short amount of time... then when 5 came out my budget didn't allow so I needed to wait. The new CS6 isn't direly needed so I decided I'd have to loose some additional "upgrade power" because money need to be directed elsewhere now... but the news that I'd loose all the upgrade power and would have kept on upgrading for nothing it's just ridiculous... and if that's the treatment a customer will have to expect from now on I think I'll use what I have and move to alternatives stopping to personally support Adobe products an rely on licensed copies at work instead. Perhaps Adobe hasn't notices we aren't exactly doing that great in US between the current economical situation, the various setbacks experienced across the country and for the fact that in this particular business most work is often being outsourced out of US these days... I am sure you will have a huge market on the countries where the outsourced work is being sent... as far as I am concerned comes 12/31/2013 I will no longer be an Adobe customer as Adobe is forcing me out of the upgrade cycle and I won't plan to re-enter anytime soon in the coming future... lesson learnt.
Thank you for your time (if any of the marketing gurus will have cared to read this far without laughing and discounting with a "screw those old customers, they should've upgraded earlier" which was basically the content of the email I got this week... pasted below)
    Cheers,
    tfbkny
Content of email received from Adobe saying last chance to upgrade now or what you got will be worthless in less than a couple months.
    Dear Creative Suite customer:
We want to make sure you're aware of an important change to Adobe's upgrade policy that may affect you.
Beginning January 1, 2013, only Creative Suite customers with licenses for CS5 or CS5.5 versions will qualify for upgrade pricing to CS6.
Due to this change, we will only continue offering CS3 and CS4 customers like you special upgrade pricing through December 31, 2012.*
    * Owners of CS3 and CS4 individual products and suite editions will be eligible to receive upgrade pricing to CS6 until December 31, 2012. After that date, only customers on CS5 or CS5.5 will qualify for upgrade pricing to CS6.

Adobe doesn't care, they don't have to. I like Phsotoshop and have been using it professionally for 20 years, but lets face it, I wouldnt mind some really good competition from another source. It didnt use to be the only game in town, and doesnt have to remain so.
I could brainstorm how I would want competing software to look like. Pshop is not the easiest workflow possible. Illustrator is clearly deficient to even CorelDraw, and certainly Freehand. I've been meaning to reconnect with CorelDraw. It did some cool things.
Google Chrome is pulling a lot of manoevers software wise and I hope they try to go a little deeper and give Adobe a run for their money on the one program they feel justifies unbelievable gouging. Go investigate Ableton Live if you want to see what a company that cares about its customers is doing, ADOBE. Audition is a JOKE compared to Ableton Live. Thank God we're not powned on the audio side by these suits.
The idea that a company would peddle buggy software, which CS4 was..., although some of that was Apple's fault, is bad, the upgrade prices were ridiculous, and this is the end of the road for me currently. The idea that a company would actively
push away customers is pretty incredible. "But I sent you an email!" Whoops, you gotta pay $1900 for production premium CS6! HAHAHAHAHA. Time for a YT video with my old hard copy box. Sounds like a good idea.
There are too many options on the motion graphics side, and I'll keep a static machine to run Pshop and AE CS4.
The masters of the universe will have theit way, and the rest must bow to their ambivalent greed. At least that's the way they think. It would seem that Adobe and Apple really, really want some upstarts to come up. Maybe $360 for a year to figure out an exit might work. It will be interesting to see if this hits earnings. VERY interesting.

  • Trouble installing plugins for CS3 and CS4 onto a 32 bit/64 bit PC.

I have two new PCs. They are supposed to run both 32 Bit and 64 Bit programs.
I have CS3 and CS4 32 Bit programs installed on both.
Many of my old faithful plugins have gone on strike or at least a work stoppage!
I can get some of them to install correctly, but some arre just not cooperating.
Is there a workaround for this problem?
    I have considered:
    1. Creating a partition for Window 7 32 bit, but I am not so technically savvy to be confident that I would do it correctly
    2. Buy an older 32 bit machine and install windows 7, but that is getting to the edge of too pricey.
    Any suggestions?
I really need some of those plugins! I have built a business around them.

The truth is that you can run Windows 7 and Windows 8, in both 32 and 64-bit versions, without any problem (you have a 64-bit processor). The problem is that Apple only supports a 32-bit Windows 7 version for your Mac. Why? Because Apple wanted to drop the Windows 8 support for the computer you are using.
You can see in this page all the Macs compatible with 64-bit Windows editions > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1846 As you can see, your Mac isn't supported, so you can only install a 32-bit Windows 7 version with Boot Camp if you want to run Windows correctly.
I told you at the beggining that you can install any 32 or 64-bit Windows 7 and Windows 8 versions on your Mac because your iMac meets the requirements for both editions. However, you need the Boot Camp drivers to make Windows run properly, and here's where Apple has dropped a lot of computers, making them unusable if you install a version that Apple clasifies as unsupported. Sad but that's true

  • How do I down save an Illustrator 6 file for CS3 and CS4?

We save illustrator files to a windows network, No problems so far opening between the different versions.  But now we are getting errors like can't open illustration.  The file is locked or in use.  ID = 54.  I have tested the suggestions where you save the file in illustrator and then select the version to downsave to, however this does not work.  Also the downsave is from Creative Cloud 6 to CS3 or CS4. CC6 is installed on an i-Mac 10.9.2, CS3 and 4 installed on Mac 10.5.8.

Why do you need to "savw" the audio files? Whatever edits you make will replace the old audio file with the new edits. Just do what you need to do to the audio and the corresponding file in your folder will be changed accordingly. If you DO need to save for some reason, When you "save as" simply save as the same name and it will replace the old one.
Work as you usually do, and then every now and then, go to the audio window and choose "select unused audio" in the edit menu. Then hit the delet button! Anything not being used in the arrangement will be deleted.
Read about the Project manager. It will delete any unused audio files from the folder you are working in and consolidate all files, samples, etc. It's worth learning.
    Good luck!

  • Assign seperate icons for CS3 and CS4

    Hi,
I have Illustrator 3 and 4 installed on my Mac. After installation the version 3 .ai icon is now set to version 4 icon and when I open a version 3 file it open in version 4. Is it possible to have a version 3 .ai file use a different icon and when its opened it will open in version 3 only.
    Thanks

I think this has been a problem since the beginning of OS X. I'm not sure of the particulars but whereas OS 9 looked at type/creator codes of the file to know what icon to display and what app to use to open it with, OS X seems to depend on the file extension. This doesn't change between CS versions so you get it trying to open the file with the most recent version of the app... sometimes... Some apps seem to set the info in the files they save, some don't. Some read it, some don't. A far cry from "it just works."
Now I haven't tested it with CS3 & CS4 but... When I was working between CS2 & CS3, if I had the CS2 app open first, CS2 docs (though showing the CS3 icon) would open in CS2. Give that a try.

  • Older installation discs  Any reason to keep them?

I have several older installation discs like iWork 08, iLife 08, Office for Mac 04.  Any reason to keep them?Ol

More of a question for the iMovie forum, don't you think?
However, it's entirely up to you. iMovie 6 and iMovie 7 are two completely different applications, with completely different capabilities and different interfaces. Your old iMovie projects can be opened and converted with iMovie 7, but with major changes. All transitions will be replaced with a simple crossfade. All movie effects will be lost. This would not be ideal for a project that is incomplete and/or you are still planning to use in an iDVD project.
The system specs at the bottom of your post aren't compatible with iMovie 7 - it won't install on a G4 at all. Are those specs correct? Do you have iMovie 7 on your laptop?
If it were me, I would absolutely keep iMovie 6. Only you can decide what works for your purposes.
    Regards.

  • CS3 and CS4 Dilemma- Older Sony Camera

I have successfully captured video with CS3 and an old Sony DCR-PC120. I have upgraded to CS4 and the camera is no longer recognized for capture. I then tried to reinstall CS3 and got hung up during installation. I got caught in an endless loop of "install Disc 1 for CS4 and install Disc 1 of CS3" but never could reinstall CS3. Questions: 1) Can I reinstall CS3 after I have upgraded to CS4 OR do I need to uninstall CS4 first? 2) In these forums I see several users maintain multiple versions of Premiere, do I need a full version vs the upgrade version to do this? 3) Any other ideas on how to get my media off this old camera? Thanks.

For both CS3 and CS4 the better capture tools are:
    For HDV: HDVSplit
    For SD: Scenalyzer
This may avoid the need to reinstall CS3 and possibly messing up some registry keys.

  • Cs2 and cs3 and cs4 on the same pc xp? could be a mess up?

    Hi
    i have some questions
    i bought cs2 some time ago , i guess 4 years but now i don't remember
and i did installed on my pc ,  never had a problem
after when cs3 come out , i tried the trial version , the first time i did  not like it , but after 2 weeks , i liked and i need it for camera raw
    i upgraded my cs2 license
well the point i donwnload the trial version of cs4  (english version , because most of the tutorials are in english) while cs2 and cs3 are in my language
i tried to make a custom install (i did not install all the comonent)
something went wrong ,when i tried to uninstall cs4 , i don't know but cs4 did not uninstall all the components (the uninstaller keeps adobe color Na, Ja, Eu, color common setting and cmaps)
i downloaded the cs4 cleaner for adobe page , but the adobe cleaner for cs4 was not able to clean these components, it tried to clean cs3
well i  had to use windows installer clean up manually
delete every thing that is related to cs4
    uninstall cs3 and re-install it
so after this mess, i ask if i can keep cs2 cs3 and cs4 (i think i will buy or upgrade) in the same pc running xp?
    my second question
    2) after updating cs4 , run the cs4 update utility and update all the cs4 components , cs4 seems to be more fast then cs3 , still on old pc with a powerfull machine like a p4 3.6 with 2gb of ram  and a good graphic card pci express
is my feeling ? is the cs4 more fast then cs3 on not fast pc , isn't it?
    thanks too much
    and have a nice day

    thanks John Joslin
CS4 is faster than CS3 on a computer which supports it.
which are the computer that supports it ? i run xp
why did the uninstaller do a mess up ?
    thanks

  • CS3 and CS4 Crashes (Open, Save, Randomly)

We have some users at my company that for sometime now have been having issues with all CS3 and CS4 products crashing when doing any sort of work. As the title states, the crashes were on opening, saving, sometimes randomly as well, and even renders in AE would fail.
After many trials and tribulations we finally got an error message that pointed us to something credible. The error message was "After Effects warning: GDI+ not intialized.", this happened on import of .psd file as a composition into AE. I found a thread on some Developers who were expierencing this error in their own programs, and Visual Studio.
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/winforms/thread/931580d9-78ff-45d3-949b-0cf6 67d63e48/
This pointed to Turtoise CVS 1.10.1, which convientently we had installed on all our workstations. We updated to the latest version Turtoise CVS (1.10.10) and all of our troubles have gone away. Went from upto a half dozen crashes a day to zero, and even any issues we had with rendering went away.
I am posting this as it took awhile to find the cause of the crashing, and hope that it will helps someone else that this issue has frustrated.
Note: CS2 ran fine with Turtoise CVS 1.10.1

    Thanks for the post.

  • CS3 and CS4

    Hi,
I have recently downloaded DW CS3 and as the trial was
    running out I decided
to go for the CS4 beta version. A few days later it's already
    asking me for
a valid serial number and I'm a little puzzled by this. (I
    guess it's to do
with the Cs3 version installed which was on it's last few
    days).
I have no problem in buying the upgrade however all I can see
    on line is an
upgrade for CS3 and nothing about CS4. How does this work? I
    don't want to
buy a CS3 upgrade and find shortly that Cs4 comes out.
    Thanks for any help
    Brian

    Thanks Malcolm,
What am I missing? How does one be involved as a beta tester
    if expected to
have to pay for it! Seems odd to me. Maybe if I purchase a
    upgrade for CS3,
    CS4 will work too!
I have to say I love both versions and find it's a tall
    learning curve from
    DW2004.
    Thanks for the reply.

  • Screen Flickering in Adobe Photoshop CS3 and CS4

I experience screen flickering in Adobe Photoshop CS3 and CS4 when I move my mouse around on the screen. Basically any mouse movement will create flickering. The more and faster I move my mouse the more flickering occurs.
    System Specs
    - Windows 7 64bit Ultimate
    - Intel i7 3.2GHz Extreme
    - ASUS Rampage II Extreme Mobo
    - Corsair Dominator 6GB 1866MHz (Triple Channel)
    - Dual eVGA Nvidia GTX 285 Superclocked Graphics Cards in SLI
    - Dual 60GB OCZ Vertex Series SDDs in RAID0
    - Corsair 1000Watt PSU
    - CPU and both GPUs are water cooled
    - Logitech G-15 Keyboard
    - Logitech G-9 Mouse
    - ASUS 26" LCD VK266H monitor (1920x1200 @ 60Hz) DVI
    - I have the latest BIOS and all of the most up-to-date drivers installed for every piece of hardware.
I have photoshop set to use the maximum allowable amount of memory. The memory slider in photoshop maxes out at 3.25GB which equates to about 50% of my total system memory.
The screen flickering does not occur in any other application or game, only in Photoshop. I have tried every possible Nvidia Control Panel setting for this application, and nothing seems to have an effect on the flicker.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem, or any recommendations?

Aside from the potential SLI issue, you might want to study your Logitech mouse driver.
Going back a bit, several versions of the MS InteliPoint mouse driver caused just what you describe. I have not heard of this with Logitech, but did have some other issues with their SetPoint drivers. In my case, I ditched their keyboard, but kept the mouse (love it), and did away with SetPoint, using the generic driver. All functions that I needed were handled, and SetPoint was out of the equation.
Something else to look at, and good luck,
    Hunt

  • Vista 64 bit CS3 and CS4 compatibility

    Hi,
I have a new computer on the way with a Vista 64 bit OS (home premium). I have CS3 Web Standard and recently upgraded to CS4 Design Premium. I've deactivated on my old machine and am hoping to install CS3 and CS4 on the new machine, once it arrives in a few days. Will these creative suites be compatible and install on the 64 bit Vista OS?
When I upgraded, I think the upgrade required me to have CS3 on the computer, so I suspect in order to put CS4 on the new machine, CS3 will first have to be installed.
Has anyone successfully installed CS3 and then a CS4 upgrade on Vista 64?
    Kind Regards,
    saratogacoach

    Thanks, Bob.
The new computer arrived a few hours ago, and I successfully installed CS4, only needing the serial number for CS3.
The machine has the new Core i7, but with 6G's of RAM, not 8. So, I'm hoping that the programs will run OK.
    Again, thanks for your help.
    Kind Regards,
    saratogacoach

  • Premiere CS3 and CS4 Crashes

I'm having trouble with Premiere Pro versions CS3 and CS4 crashing and am not sure why. The problem usually occurs after a few minutes of the program being opened or when we either try to scrub through the timeline or try to capture. It's very frustrating.  The machine came installed with CS4 and we have tried to remove and then re-install. We have also tried removing and adding CS3 and have had similar results. Recently we purchased a school license for CS5 although for Premiere we had to install the CS4 version and still have gotten the same results. • How to open Camera RAW (CR2) files in Photoshop CS3 and CS4? (Mac)

I have a Canon 7D. I prefer to shoot in raw format, but the CR2 files cannot be opened by either Photoshop CS3 on my Mac in the office OR by Photoshop CS4 on my iMac at home.
I have tried dowloading the Adobe DNG Coverter and Camera Raw 4.6 update (which is SUPPOSEDLY intended to work for CS3) and followed the instructions to replace the plug-in. STILL a no-go. CS3 STILL tells me "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file."
What gives? Does anyone know of a way to get CR2 files to open in Photoshop CS3 or CS4? (A way that actually works?) Because Adobe's plug-in update doesn't seem to do it, and Canon's "fine-grain" editing controls for raw images is pretty lack-luster.
    Thanks (in advance)!

Have you tried opening up out of Bridge? If that doesn't work you may new need to download a new driver from Canon. All my peripherals are Canon and I am always having to download new drivers everytime I update. Fortunatly they are really easy to find on Canon's site.
