Can i use my old IPOD dock with the new G5 IPOD?

That's really good to know. I thought because it was a different thickness you wouldn't be able to, and the dock adaptor that comes with the new iPods doesn't fit into the old Photo dock.
Do you know if you can use the charger that came with the old Photo iPods? You can plug straight into the power socket, but the cable that goes into the charger from the iPod is the firewire cable, so I was thinking maybe it wouldn't work, and I don't want to try it in case I short out my iPod or something!

  • Would like dockable case - maybe with old iPod docking Station?!

So I love my iPhone. I need a case. I drop things a lot! I realized the iPhone will sync with the old 2003 iPod Docking Station, which is less tight. Maybe there is a plastic case of some sort that will fit perfectly in here? Is there a case that would protect my iPhone and allow docking into the old docking station? I can't find anything in the store that will fit into the new, tiny docking station.
    Thanks!

I have been looking for the same thing but have not had any luck.

  • Using an old iPod docking station charger

Does the Touch take the same charger as the original iPod 20G?
I'd like to use my old docking station to charge the Touch.
    Thanks.
    Don

it depends whether it uses USB or Firewire to charge. Second Gen iPod Touches will not charge using anything other than USB. First Gens should work find though.

  • Old ipod dock bepps when ipod docked but new universal dosent...

The new iPods don't make any beeps and whistles when you connect them to anything. You just gotta look at the screen.

  • IPod Dock Photo / IPod Dock 3rd Gen Question

I just recycled my old battery exhausted 3rd Gen 20gig Ipod and bought the 20gig Ipod Photo.
Question: Can I use my old Ipod Dock (minus the S-Video Out of course) to transfer music and photos?
It doesnt seem to connect completely. I see the pod via itunes. I can see the disk via "My Computer" but the transfer of information seems to stop dead.
    Any answers?

Yes it works perfectly with both my firewire and USB. (which of course begs the question "Why am I trying to get the dock to work - it looks pretty on the desk and I dont want to shell out more coin for the Ipod photo dock).
Its just annoying to have the PC and ITunes both recognize the Ipod with the Dock but not allow music/file transfer.
My thoughts are different pin configuration?
    Thanks

  • Use of iPod dock and car charger

Although the interface on my old iPod dock and the car charger seem to match, I am leery of using either with my new 3Gs. Any idea on whether these accessories will work or cause problems?
    TIA for any info.

Won't cause problems, but may or may not work depending how old they are and if the manufacture listened to Apple (years ago) about changes it planed to stop supporting certain things). If they didn't listen, it may not charge. But unless they are really really old (first iPod old) really wont hurt anything.

  • Old 15 GB iPod Dock with New iPod?

    Hi,
Is it OK to plug a new 20 GB color iPod into the old 15 GB iPod dock (there is no S-Video out here)? Will it charge a new 20 GB iPod correctly?
    Thanks.

Theoretically, it should. However, I am not sure whether the new iPod will sit firmly on that dock.

  • IPT4 doesnt play through INTEMPO dock while an old ipod does. sound comes from ipod speaker only. why not thru dock speakers?

My old iPod works fine in an INTEMPO dock. My new iPod touch 4 will only play in the dock thru its own speaker and there is also a 'not charging' message.
Is the dock not up to handling my iPod Touch4?

    Two possible reasons:
    - The configuration of the 4G iPod prevents the iPod from fully seating in some older docks, those not deisgned for ohe 4G.
    - Some docks are not compatible with the later iOSs
Have you went to the manufacturer's support site?

  • Old Apple dock and composite AV cables

My old iPod with Color display (circa 2005) recently died, so I'm getting a new iPod Touch 4G.
the old iPod could display pictures on the TV as well as play music. I had it in an old style genuine Apple dock and used a genuine Apple Composite AV cable to connect the dock and my home entertainment system so I could show the pictures on the TV and play music through my surround sound system. That old Apple AV cable did not connect through the dock connector but is connected to the dock through a headphone like 3.5mm plug. That old Dock also has an S-Video out
All the original stuff was bought years ago when I made good money... but I lost my job over a year and half ago and just got another after being out of work that long that pays significantly less than I used to make ...
As my old iPod died, after living on shoestring budget so long with NO frills, even though money is still tight, I decided to give myself a gift for the holidays and replace it with a Touch.
I knew i would have to replace my old Apple Firewire chargers (I have 2) and my old 3rd party firewire car charger (in the car I had a line out cable from dock connector as well which I connected to a cassette adaptor for my 9 year old car)..
But figured I could find USB chargers cheaply and could still use the old dock and AV cables (as those were - and still are- outrageously expensive)...
But I've started reading things which I think are saying is that I might not be use my old Apple Dock, and Apple Composite AV cables which is making me nervous.
So ... can I use the old Apple Dock and AV cables for video with the 4g Touch????
There should be no TECHNICAL reason for it not to work... but maybe Apple has gotten a bit more greedy...
If it does not work for video, will at least the audio part of the cable connected to that dock and the s-video out work? I can make that work with what I already have to get audio and video.
If not then I need a lot more new stuff I can't really afford... and will be very very disappointed and angry with Apple... There is no good reason those things should stop working other than purposely sabotaging them to make me have to buy new over priced accessories! I PAYED my apple tax on those already!
    Thanks for any info...
    A worried karen

Apparently there are at least 3 different Dock model numbers.
The Model number is the most important and can be found on the bottom of the dock.
The part numbers may change due to several things like boxing an AV cable with or without a wall charger. You would probably get the same cable but the part number on the box would be different due to possible other contents inside the box.
    1. *iPod Photo Dock* Part# M9868G/A, Model# ?????
with iPod AV Cable or S-Video cable Part# M8765G/A
    2. *iPod Universal Dock* Part# MA045G/A, *Model# A1153*
with iPod AV Cable or S-Video cable Part# M8765G/A
    3. *Apple Universal Dock* Part# MC746LL/A, Model# ?????
with Apple Composite AV Cable Part# MC748AM/A
or Apple Component AV Cable Part# MC917ZM/A
I had both items in #2 above. I still have the iPod Universal Dock and it came in its own box.
No remote, No cable(s), but did come with 5 dock adapters.
I never tried my iPod Touch through the Dock to the TV. I did try the iPod Touch using the older iPod AV Cable to the TV but that did not work and the link above tells us it doesn't. That's why I bought the newer Composite Cable which does work when directly connected to the TV and the iPod Touch.
I gave my older cable away to a friend so I can't test if it would work like the document says or not but like you said, in theory, it should work.
According to the document given above and below, the iPod Touch should work with your Dock you have now even though it doesn't list the 4th generation. (I don't think they have updated this yet)

If you buy a new iPod Touch 4th generation, then I guess the only way you will know for sure is to try it out and let us know here.

  • Connecting an old iPod to USB

My old iPod has a firewire connector but I want to connect using USB. Is there an Apple dock that will fit old iPods and provide USB connectivity? If not, does anyone know of a workable firewire to USB converter?

Is there an Apple dock that will fit old iPods and provide USB connectivity? If not, does anyone know of a workable firewire to USB converter?
Basically, none exists; devices which contain both USB and FireWire ports other than computers don't provide any crossover between the technologies unless that capability is specifically noted. Any method which is even theoretically doable would cost far more than a FireWire 400 to 800 adapter.

  • HT1420 how to reauthorize an old iPod ?

I gave an old ipod to my brother. I now have too many devices so I have to deauthorize it. I don't see a choice to that listed only deauthorize all was listed.

You have to purchase the Firewire charger and the firewire cable for the ipod. Does it have a dock connector on the bottom of the ipod?

  • Old Apple Dock??

I have an old Apple iPod dock. I think it is "iPod Dock M9602G/A" from the 4th generation b&w click-wheel.
When I plug the iPhone into it I get the message "This accessory is not made to work with iPhone." Engadget says it works fine and that the message is to turn off the wireless so it doesn't interfere with the audio playing out of it (if you do that, which I don't).
Anyway, MY question is if the adapters you can find on the Apple Store will fit this particular dock or if there is a different dock (Universal Dock?) that those only work with. As it stands, the iPhone will connect, but there isn't physical support for it so there is too much stress on the connector. Anybody with first-hand experience on this?
    Jeff

The adapters fit the universal dock, not the older ipod docks.

  • IPhone randomly stops playing sound out of iPod docks?

I recently plugged my iPhone 4 iOS6.0.1 (the new update recently put out by apple) and it has stopped playing sound out of any iPod dock I plug it into.
It plays sound normally out of the speakers and charges while on the dock. Has anyone had any problems similar and any solutions?
Also I have restored my whole iPhone this morning and it still has the same problem. My husband doesn't have this problem and he has the iPhone 3.
Is this a bug with the new iOS6.0.1 and is Apple going to put out a new update anytime soon to fix it? Or do I need to send my phone away.
    Thank you.

It can't be 3 years old since the 5G iPod was first introduced in Oct 2012
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.
    Apple - iPod Repair price
A third-party place like the following will replace the jack for less. Google for more.

    Replace the jack yourself

  • I have an old iPod classic that iTunes cannot find, I can't even restore it!?

I have an old iPod Classic that iTunes cannot "find" even though it shows it. I can't even restore it. Works fine except can't synch with iTunes to add new music!?

We (Appple techs) tried disk mode and that didn't work. At times the iPod would even "show" itself in iTunes and iTunes would say it was synching but when you looked at the iPod you could tell it wasn't ( it just said do not disconnect) and after 10 to 40 minutes later iTunes would say can't find iPod. We would then have to force quit iTunes because it was hung up and then just disconnect the iPod. The iPod works fine with headphones or a docking station, just can't add (or subtract) anything to it. It completely mystified all the techs in the store and all "senior" advisors on the phone- and that was about 4.5 hours getting tossed to one "expert" or another! Ah well, indeed stranger than life.
