Old NFS Volumes are a problem in finder

Hi,
I mount an nfs volume and work on files that are saved on it. I do this manually in finder->Go->Connect to server
Sometimes it gets disconnected so I do that again, but there is a problem. The previous volume still exists in the directory. You can't access anything there or save anything there and when you re connect you get a new volume /volumes/server-1 or /volumes/server-2 or whatever comes next.
This is a problem, because any shortcuts don't work when this -n is appended to the server name, and when you try to save documents you have been working on, they won't save.
Can anyone suggest how to maybe automate the removal of these old entries in the directory. Any advice is appreciated.

Well, the lookup (which is dont via the findByPrimaryKey) is done to populate the fields in the entity. If, as you say, the mapping don't match (ie, a String value from the db trying to be put into a Long object) you will most likely get some error. The error message might not be that explicit, but you obviously MUST either change the mapping type or convert the column to what the mapping type says.
Cheers

  • Files saved to NFS share by MS word cause finder to loose sync w/filesystem

I am posting this bug report(#4699323, opened Aug 24th, 2006) I have open with Apple because there is no indication that they have even noticed it. Please reply if you have similar problems, questions, or suggestions. Bug report follows.
    24-Aug-2006 04:17 PM Erik Meitner:
    Summary:
Files saved to an NFS volume by Microsoft Word dissappear from the Finder. Many times "Ghosted" icons of "Word Work Files" are left behind.
Steps to Reproduce & Actual Results:
    1. Mount an NFS volume from a server(Mac or Linux, doesn't matter. NFS options do not matter.) from the Finder or command line.
    2. Open a Finder window to the mount point.
    3. Create a word document(test.doc), save to the NFS mount point.
    4. Make sure both the Word window and Finder window are visible.
    5. Type a single letter, Save.
    6. "Word Work File L_200098113"(the number varies.) apears and test.doc dissapears from the folder. Then the icon for "Word Work File L_200098113" goes "ghosted" (test.dc IS still there, just not shown. You can verify this in the shell )
    7. Type a letter, Save.
    8. The work file dissapears and is replaces by "Word Work File L_200098113"
    9. Rinse, Repeat ad infinitum.
    Expected Results:
File saved & Finder does NOT get out of sync with the filesystem.
    Regression:
    * Only happens on NFS volumes.
    * Only happens with MS Word.
    * It happens on Panther(10.3.9) and Tiger(up to 10.4.7)
    * "Fast saves" in Word has no effect.
    * The user has full access to the root of the NFS volume.(a .TemporaryItems folder IS being created)
    * Verified that problem happens with all Versions of Office 2004 from 11.2.3 to 11.2.6(current).
    * Happens with ALL users: admin, local, and non-local(LDAP authenticated, network homes).
    Notes:
    * The work files(with "ghosted" icons) never show up when listing the folder via the CLI.
    * The original(test.doc) always shows in the CLI.
    * Relaunching the Finder usually causes the "missing" files to show again, but not always.
    * Problem is exacerbated by users losing faith in the system, thus saving very frequently, guaranteeing that the problem will always happen.
    * Only workaround is to have users work on files "off the network" on a local disk.

Relaunching the Finder will restore the icons to the proper state most of the time. One can also use this application to force a refresh of a folders contents: http://www.brockerhoff.net/nudge/index.html
I am not sure of the internal workings of "Nudge", but it does seem to be the best hack available to get the Finder to work properly.
    01-Sep-2006 08:48 AM Erik Meitner:
I should also add that this problem is repeatable on 15 different Macs of different models, all running 10.3.9 with the latest updates.
    11-Sep-2006 12:41 PM Erik Meitner:
Problem is repeatable on all 6 of our Machines running Tiger(10.4.7) with all the latest updates.
    20-Sep-2006 02:25 PM Erik Meitner:
The "Nudge" tool mentioned previously does not always work especially for some users who experience this problem the worst. It will only restore the file to a "ghosted" icon that is still inaccessable.
Moving the file to a different folder and deleting the resource fork file is the only solution in this case.

OS X 10.4.8 update has not altered the behavior of this bug. The Office 2004 11.30 update seems to have caused the problem to happen less frequently. I would say it now happens half as frequently.

  • Indesign CS6 on MACs with OS 10.8 are having problems with links

    Hi
Indesign CS6 on MACs with 10.8 are having problems with links. All links to other files have to be updated when opening a file although definitely nothing has changed to the linked files.
We can rule out our company's networking and the system hosting the files (HELIOS software on RedHat Linux VM). This happens with newly created Indesign files and with old ones. E.g. we create a file on Tuesday, save it and open it again on the exact same MAC on Wednesday and all links to other fiels (.indd, .png, .bmp, etc. nothing uncommon) have to be updated as they all show the yellow triangle + black exclamation mark symbol next to them. Has anybody else experienced this, What can we do? We have tried absolutley everything and updated all software from MAC OS to CS6 itself but nothing seems to help on the long run.
    Any further information required?
    M. Miller

    Thanks for your quick reply.
We actually noticed that there also seems to be something wrong with the timestamps:
If we open the infos via the MAC finder to a file (.psd e.g.) which is linked in one of our indesign files, it states a certain date of creation.
If we then switch to the Indesign file we just opened in which we had to update all links and open the infos to exactly the same file we looked at in the finder, a different date of creation is stated. So there also seems to be a mistake here (hope it's clear what I mean).
We are ruling out our network as the error cannot be "re-enacted". We have created numerous test files in Indesign (simple white page containing one link to a .psd file which is also used in one of the supposedly defective files) and have opened them on various MACs with various OS versions over the past days/weeks but unfortunately the files open without any notifications or errors.
Just as a background: a few months ago, the problem seemed to occur between MACs with differing OS, 10.6 - 10.8 at first. A file which was created on a 10.6 MAC could not be opened without updating all links on a 10.8 MAC. That is why we updated everything to 10.8. The error did not occur for about 2-3 weeks but then reoccured again.?
    Have you heard anything similar?

I have an Iphone 4 13.5 GB, iOS 7.1.2. Currently when I make a call or someone calls me, I can hear people on call perfectly but sometimes they can't hear me. It maybe fine for afew mins but then sound drops again? Anyone have this problem and find a solution? Thanks.

I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

The problem is i cant enter my new card details because the issue is registered to when i was in America and i require to pay the funds from an American source. Any ideas how i can resolve this? It wont accept my new card detail as im back in the UK. I think i have posted this in the wrong area but anyone got any ideas?
I have managed to change the rest of my accoutn being registered to the UK i think except this

    Hi..
You can email Apple for help but the link is for the iTunes store not the Mac App Store. You've inadvertently poasted in the Using Mac App Store forum but that's ok. Billing issues are the same for the iTunes Store.
Click here > Apple - Support - iTunes Store - Contact Us
It wont accept my new card detail as im back in the UK
Your credit or debit card credentials must be associated with the same country where you reside.
"Although you can browse the iTunes Store in any country without being signed in, you can only purchase content from the iTunes Store for your own country. This is enforced via the billing address associated with your credit card or other payment method that you use with the iTunes Store, rather than your actual geographic location."

When syncing iPod touch to MacBook, I have selected to sync only events newer than 360 days. Yet I get message that sync will change 8000 events on "this computer"  most of which are years old and many are recurring events.  I'm afraid to proceed with sync.

Having the same problem here. As a first time mac user, Apple has certainly made a bad first impression.
For me, the issue seems to occur when transferring files between computers that are connected to the same access point (when transferring files from wired computers on the network there is no issue). My vista laptop and every laptop I have tried has worked perfectly fine with this access point so I am 100% convinced it is the mac. Basically when I copy the files, after about 100mb, I am unable to access anything on the local network or internet until I restart Airport. The weird thing is that even though I am unable to access anything, the airport utility says it is connected. I might also note that the wireless signal strength is full.
If I can't get this figured out in a few days, this computer is going back to the store where it came from and I will officially label myself anti-mac. This type of issue is just unacceptable for something so main stream.

  • No longer mount NFS volumes with 2010.q1 release:

Has anyone else seen this? I can no longer mount any of my NFS volumes with root squash since upgrading to 2010.q1. I have a ticket open with Sun (72644622), but everyone is apparently off/away.
Before they all went off, Sun Eng. suggested setting max supported NFS version to 3, but this of course did not work. Hosts trying to mount the volumes error out with:
call_verify: server HOST_IP_HERE requires stronger authentication.
I have double checked that the atuh is set to sys (not krb), but it looks like the nfsd is not respecting this.
Of course this has knocked all our VMware mounts offline as well, and using krb for these is out of the question....
Had to update to support the new FC card...which works great...but me needs me nfs shares....
Fishworks doods, stop yelling at drives and help a brother out ;)

I wish I could tell you, but it seems we lost a CIM card. Worse yet, this failure was completely SILENT. Not a single "problem" listed in the logs. However, when attaching another J4400, I noticed an alarm LED on the failed CIM and verified that the storage was only seen by 1 path. Kind of disconcerting that availability could be reduced significantly without so much as an email.
I'll let you know if we can get to the new release later this week.

  • Icon Preview Problem in Finder

    Hi,
I've had my new MacBook for about a month now, and as my photo collection has grown I'm starting to notice that while using CoverFlow (which I have as the default view for most of my folders), there are always some icons that appear as a generic JPEG icon instead of having the image preview. This problem goes away (all icons have previews) once I open the same folder again or refresh it somehow (for example by selecting Calculate All Sizes in View Options). However, once I restart/log in again, it happens again. Most of the images are normal JPG's from the web, and which ones have missing previews is completely random. This applies to all of my folders, and I've seen the same thing on several other Macs as well (the family iMac and several others in Apple Stores). This only appears in CoverFlow view, though.
Here are a couple of screenshots to illustrate the problem:
    http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l4/Octavarius/Screenshot-IconsinFinder.jpg
    http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l4/Octavarius/Screenshot-IconsinFinder2.jpg
Does anyone else also experience this issue? Is it a common issue? The Show Icon Preview option is checked, by the way.
    Any ideas?
    Regards,
    Jacob

Keep in mind that it's the icons below the Cover Flow section that are the problem. The blurry photos in the Cover Flow section on the first screenshot have very small resolution, that's why they're blurry, but if you look in the second pic, you'll see some others that are completely sharp. Just in case you misunderstood.
I do sometimes get blurry pictures in the Cover Flow section, just after they're downloaded, but once I log out and back in, they're fine and stay that way.
Once I click Get Info on an icon that's missing the preview it's immediately refreshed and the preview is there again, as it should be. It seems like Finder is sometimes skipping certain previews the first time you open a folder since log in.
What did you mean by custom icon? How do you set/delete one?

  • VSS Error: "An unexpected error occurred when cleaning up snapshot volumes. Confirm that all snapped volumes are correctly re-synchronized with the original volumes."

    Hi all,
at a customer’s site I’ve a problem with a fresh installation of Backup Exec 2014. Every backup (full or incremental) always reports the following
error: “An unexpected error occurred when cleaning up snapshot volumes. Confirm that all snapped volumes are correctly re-synchronized with the original volumes.”.
It’s not a Backup Exec problem itself, also backups using “Windows Server Backup” failing with the same error.
On this site I have three servers; the error is only generated for one of them. Here’s a short overview:
Server1: Windows Server 2012 R2, latest patchlevel, physical machine, Domain Controller and Fileserver. Backup Exec is installed on this machine,
backup is written directly to SAS tape loader. There error is generated on this server.
Server2: Windows Server 2008 R2, latest patchlevel, virtual machine, running on Citrix Xen Server 6.2. Used for remote desktop services, no errors
    on this server.
Server3: Windows Server 2012 R2, latest patchlevel, virtual machine, database server with some SQL Instances, no errors on this server.
As I said, error is reported only on server1, no matter if it is a full or an incremental backup. During the backup I found the following errors
is the event log (translated from a german system):
    Event ID: 12293

There are some articles about this error in the knowledge base or web which does not help or do not apply to my environment for example:

    What I already have tried:
Disabled Antivirus during the whole backup
Installed latest Service Pack for Backup Exec
    Rebooted the server
vssadmin list writers do not show any errors
consult eventid.net for other possible solutions
    no limits set for vaa
    Anymore ideas from you guys?
    Best regards,

    Hi Shaon,

I recently updated my browser. A message then came up, saying that firefox would create a folder which would include my old bookmarks. But I can't find my bookmarks in it?

I'm not familiar with that message...
Are you bookmarks still intact and working normally?
Is there an Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop by any change? If the Firefox "Reset" feature runs, that folder should be created.

  • Photoshop slow when volumes are mounted

A few people are reporting this problem over on the Adobe forums, thought maybe someone here might be able to shed some light.
Essentially, Photoshop CS2 is very slow to open files whenever network volumes are mounted. Even if the files are local, just having mounted volumes slows it down. A file that normally opens instantly can take up to 30 seconds.
It's only PSCS2 which slows, all other programs seem fine.
It appears the problem occurs only with AFP connections.
Any ideas? Photoshop bug or OS bug?
Here's the forum thread if anyone's curious...
    http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?[email protected]@.3bbcb3c3/0

    Aaron,
It is particularly slow if you have iDisk mounted and set to automatically sync. If you have iDisk mounted try switching it to Manual Sync and PhotoShop's Open dialogue box will work faster.
I've tried it both ways and I've reverted to having Auto Sync enabled because I prefer the benefits of that over the inconvenience of the slow Open dialogue box. Also, PhotoShop is only slow with its dialogue box for the first time that dialogue box is used since the app was launched. Thereafter it is fine. As I leave PhotoShop launched most of the time this is not an issue.
