OLE Control, Oracle 8.1.7 Disconnect

We are using an OLE Custom Control (OCX) to embed a Visual C++ / ActiveX control in a PB 8.0.1 application.
When connecting to Oracle 8.1.7, the PB 'Disconnect;' statement causes a PB/Windows memory reference error ('The instruction at "0x77f83a33" referenced memory at "0x00000010". The memory could not be "read".) and shuts down the application (and Powerbuilder if running). This occurs only after loading the OLE control and establishing an ODBC connection for the
control. The crash occurs when executing the 'Disconnect;' statement or when the application closes (default disconnect?).
This problem does not occur with Oracle 8.1.6 or with Sybase 12 databases connections.
We recently upgraded from PB6.5 to PB8, since PB6.5 did not support Oracle 8.1.7. However, the upgrade did not make the problem go away. We have tried destroying the control, etc before disconnecting but to no avail.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

All sql commands including those used for database administration are in the SQL Reference Guide (not SQL*Plus).
For other topics, it would depend on what it was you were looking for, the are different volumes on Administration, Reference (init parameters and data dictionary), Tuning, Backup, etc.
The site makes a couple of references to downloading, but don't worry about it, just follow the links and select HTML versions and you will eventurally get there. There is also a search engine available http://otn.oracle.com/pls/tahiti/tahiti.homepage that will allow you to search by topic.

  • OLE Controls in Oracle Forms 6

Env: Oracle 8xi, Forms 6, Attachmate Infoconnect OCX, Windows 2000
    Hey All,
I am looking for general information on using Oracle Forms PL*SQL Library
for OLE2 to access and utilize a 3rd party Ole Control. I have a short-term
gig doing this and with the exception of how to utilize the properties and
methods of a 3rd Party OCX, I am a fish out of water when it comes to Oracle
development. I can embedded and utilize the control in VB and VC++ with no
problems but I need some help on how to embedded an OCX into an Oracle Form
and instantiate and use it through PL*SQL and the Oracle OLE2 Library. There
is no documentation on how to do this with Oracle from Attachmate. According
to Oracle you can use a 32 bit OCX in an Oracle form. I just need
a little help on how to do it.Any code snippets, book reccommedations, sites, or advice as to where to
    look would be helpful.
Additionally, I am looking for anyone who has specific experience in using
Attachemate's Infoconnect OCX. Any info you could share would be
appreciated. Thanks for any help you can provide!

What I can guess is this all is happenning because system datafile OS block got currupted....is it so or some other reason?....and how to resolve this issue?

    Hi,
Since it is system tablespace, you can't open the DB. If you can't open the db you can't use dbms_repair. Also DBV doesn't change the content of the file so that also not going to help.
So only open left is to do point in time recovery.

During database startup we receive ORA-01092: ORACLE instance terminated. Disconnection forced errorWas this working before? If yes, any changes been done recently?

  • Getting ORA-01092: ORACLE instance terminated. Disconnection forced.

    Hi,
I have the database on oracle 9.2.0.6 and I get this error when I try to start the database with the spfile..
    ORACLE instance started.
    Database mounted.
ORA-01092: ORACLE instance terminated. Disconnection forced.
But When I try to startup with the pfile it works fine.
    startup pfile ='?/dbs/inittracka.ora'
    ORACLE instance started.
    Database mounted.
    Database opened.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

It would seem everyone has their own pet guess on this one!
First, the earlier poster was correct: the reason for the disconnection is most likely to be visible in quite plain text in the alert log, so check that.
Second, the specific error you cite is very commonly caused by having a value for the UNDO_TABLESPACE parameter which isn't the correct one. If you say UNDO_TABLESPACE=UNDO1, for example, when the tablespace is actually called UNDOTBS1.
Since the error happens differently depending on whether you're using an spfile or an init.ora, it would suggest that the value for that parameter is set differently in the two files. You can vi or cat the spfile to inspect its contents (just don't save it again afterwards!) and check what it has for that parameter.
Since the pfile works fine, you could contemplate getting into sqlplus and saying 'create spfile from pfile', but I'd worry about over-writing a lot of good values in the current spfile by doing that, as well as the dodgy one for the undo tablespace that you are wanting to be rid of. So go carefully! (And anyone who advises you to just create an spfile without a lot of warnings and suggestions to think carefully about what you're doing is being reckless).

  • Functions: Oracle VM Manager vs. Grid Control Oracle VM Management Update

    Hello guys,
i have seen both tools .. and i have to say that some really basic functions are missing in the Oracle VM management addon for Grid Control 10.2.0.5 .. just some examples:
    - Renaming virtual machines (because of the prefix syntax is not very useful)
    - Adding ISOs as CD/DVD after removing them one from the profile (until now you need to know the whole path to the DVD, even if the ISO is registered in the repository)
    - Renaming image files (for example the disks of the VMs .. this would be very helpful in case of cloning machines)
    - List the VNC port for the running VMs
All these features are available under the VM Manager (except the renaming file part) ... do you know when this will be implemented or is the Oracle VM management update already "finished" in its functions.
    Regards

    Hi,
You can manage your Oracle VM environment using Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c. Using Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c you can discover Oracle VM Servers, discover storage servers and file systems, create and edit server pools, set up networks and create storage repositories.
for more information, look at this URL.
I hope this can help you
    Best Regards

  • Using RealPlayer control in OLE container to play video

    Hi everyone,
I am a student and I want to use Oracle OLE control in Oracle forms to implement some multimedia data. I choose RealPlayer G2 control / Window media Player / even Oracle Video Control to do this. But I have one common problem that I can't insert those control object in the OLE container automatically(in the designer).
How can I have the multimedia control object start when forms runtime?
Also, how can I store and retrieve data using that multimedia control object?
    Anyone can help me?
    Thx.
    Carol

    Hello,
I have a similar problem. I want to extract a blob filed with ole from forms with other tools to a file, but the new file then has extra informations about the ole-object. Due to MetaLink there seems to be no possibility to strip these extra bytes off the data.
Please let me know if you have a solution to this problem.
    Greetings,
    Thorsten.

  • Urgent, please help! OLE API from Oracle 7 to Oracle 8

    Hi,
Our company has a client application developed basing on VC++, Oracle OLE to communication with Oracle database.(WinNT)
Now, we upgrade the client side from Oracle 7 to Oracle 8, then using new version OLE API. My question is:
    1. if or not, we have to modify VC source code, using new OLE library(there do has difference between OLE for Oracle 7 & Oracle 8).
    2. Using OLE, can Oracle 8 client communicate with Orcle 7 server?
    Many thanks and regards.
    Zhan([email protected])

    Hi Zan
Oracle8i Client CAN access Oracle7.x.x db, however be sure to unistall the
    previuos version of Oracle OLE.
