OMBPlus, Experts & scope

I have a TCL script that serves as an OMB library. Whenever we need the procedures contained within it,it we source the file into our sessions. To centralize the code I was thinking of creating a public expert that calls OMB and defines the procedures. Basically I just cut an pasted my script into the "main" tab of the OMB activity. I can successfully call the expert from OMBplus (thanks to dallan & Robert Koszegi), but when I call the procedures defined in my expert they have not been loaded into scope.
I am in the process of converting alot of the OMB procedures contained in my library into individual experts, but I though this would be a good interim solution.
Again... any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks & Regards,
Pete

Not sure if this is the best way, but what I did was created an expert called "PROCS" that just has a start/end task. In the start task, I defined all my procedures in the "Procedure Declaration" tab that I'd want to use in other experts.
Then I nested the "PROCS" expert as the first target of my main expert. When you put experts inside experts, they are put into their own namespace. So if you want to reference a procedure or variable of an expert in an expert, you need to prefix it with the namespace of the expert. By default, it appears that OWB will be appended "_ns" to the end of the expert when generating the namespace.
So, if you have a procecure called "MyProcedure" in your "PROCS" expert, and you added "PROCS" as an expert in one of your other experts, you'd refererence that procedure as "PROCS_ns::MyProcedure" inside your new expert. I believe variables are referenced as ${PROCS_ns::myVariable}
If you are ever in doubt about the scope/namespace of variables, generate the code for the expert and look at that.
This documents gives an example of nesting experts (it is for 11g, but the example would work in 10gr2 as well)....

  • Problem with scope in DESTINATION_APP

    Experts --
I am using a Default logic file to move data from FINANCEDETAIL cube to FINANCE.
    *DESTINATION_APP=FINANCE
    *SKIP_DIM=LINEITEMDETAIL
    *WHEN Entity
    *IS *
    *REC(EXPRESSION=%Value%)
    *ENDWHEN
    *COMMIT
My problem is with the logic's scope.  When I post to FINANCEDETAIL for JAN it posts to FINANCE only for JAN.  That is normally correct, but in this case I want it to post from detail to ALL months within the year--even if FINANCEDETAIL has not changed.
    I have added XDIM_MEMBERSET TIME=%MyTime% (i.e. all months).
I added a line to the logic *DESTINATION TIME=%MyTime%
I can tell from DebugLogic.log that all of the months are part of my original query.  Records to be posted, however, are only months that have actually changed.
Documentation suggests that I need to put this logic within a *RUNLOGIC?  Is that the right track?
    Thanks...Marv

    Hi Halomoan--
Thanks for responding.  I am using BPC version 5.1.
Here is my logic in all it's gory detail.
BPC is actually working as it is supposed to.  It is sending back data from DETAIL that has changed.
I want it to send back ALL the time series monthly data for selected Account/Entity--even though it appears it has not changed in DETAIL (I have a problem in that FINANCE may be out of synch with FINANCEDETAIL).
    *CALCULATE_DIFFERENCE 0
    *MEMBERSET(%MyDetail%,"Descendants([DETAIL].[AllLineItems],999,leaves)")
    *XDIM_MEMBERSET DETAIL=AllLineItems,%MyDetail%
    *MEMBERSET(%MyTime%,"Descendants([TIME].[2009.Total],999,leaves)")
    *XDIM_MEMBERSET TIME=%MyTime%

    Hello Jason,
Thank you very much for welcoming me to your expert discussion :) I feel to be in the right place, at the right time. Thank you also for answering question beyond your scope here, much appreciated. The information received will help me to go further as such I have submitted a 5 start rating for your first reply.
That sounds promising about the LMS part so yes, I stay tuned and wait patiently.
Ok, now let’s revert to the actual topic discussed here. Cisco Prime Service Catalog and Process Orchestrator solutions I have briefly read up on this on CCO (where elseJ) and picked out the following quote
---- Quote from the Cisco Prime Service Catalog Data Sheet
Today’s end users want self-service and easy access to IT tools and services.
Simultaneously, organizations are seeking ways to extend their cloud management
platforms beyond self-service delivery of virtual machines and infrastructure resources
while increasing their use of cloud-based solutions to enhance business agility and effectiveness.
Cisco Prime™ Service Catalog offers tremendous benefits to organizations that want to unify the ways in
which all types of IT services are ordered and fulfilled, not just infrastructure requests
    ---- un quote ---
I try to understand what (at high level of course) happens in the back ground when an order is raised and which vendor solution your product can interact with.
As mentioned in the quoted text, this service catalogue goes beyond the standard infrastructure.
Let’s say, a user wants to deploy a new email services, or in your example,  extends or create a new web-portal (i.e. for HR to view and manage holiday, staff absence and benefits).
Your solution will need to interact somehow with the 3rd party vendor application that is capable building such portal I believe.
Without disclosing to many information, I assume the portal is linked to backend VM,s that spin up requested resources (and more magic of course). Perhaps I am mixing this up with another cisco product where a user can go on the portal and spin up virtual Firewalls, virtual Routers can be provisioned in now time.
Out if interest; Is this product also known as Mozart? (project code within Cisco?)
    I hope query is ok.
    Best wishes
    Markus

  • RESTful Authentication to Service Bus for Windows Server - Multiple Scopes?

We currently have a three-node farm set up and have tested authentication and sending/receiving messages to each node individually, with which we've had no issues.  However, we use NetScaler as a network load balancer, and once we configured NetScaler
in front of the three nodes we've encountered issues with RESTful authentication using OAuth.
The issue appears to be that when specifying a single scope (ex. for "server1/namespace"), if NetScaler routes the request to server1 it will provide a token back but if routed to server2 or server3 they fail with the following warning event logged:
Security token service finished processing a request with failure. TrackingId: (guid + server receiving request), Absolute Uri: https://(load balancer uri):9355/namespace/$STS/OAuth/, Message: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Invalid user.
       at Microsoft.Cloud.ServiceBus.Security.OAuthAuthenticationRequest.Parse(Message message, Int32 maxArrayLength)
       at Microsoft.Cloud.ServiceBus.Security.SecurityTokenServiceProtocolHandler.GetTokenAsyncResult.ParseAuthenticationRequest(Message requestMessage, Int32 maxArrayLength)
       at Microsoft.Cloud.ServiceBus.Security.SecurityTokenServiceProtocolHandler.GetTokenAsyncResult.<GetAsyncSteps>d__2c.MoveNext()
       at Microsoft.ServiceBus.Messaging.IteratorAsyncResult`1.EnumerateSteps(CurrentThreadType state)
       at Microsoft.ServiceBus.Messaging.IteratorAsyncResult`1.Start()
After reading the OAuth specifications, I tried changing the scope to be a space-delimited list of all three nodes (ex: "server1/namespace server2/namespace server3/namespace"), but this failed with a similar event being logged, though this one
specifying that the namespace could not be resolved for the scope provided.
When the server receiving the request matches the server in the scope and a token is provided, sending/receiving appears to function as normal across all three nodes.  Is there a different way to specify multiple servers in the scope or otherwise solve/mitigate
this issue?  I've read a couple threads regarding the support and use of NLB for load-balancing -- I think our infrastructure/network teams would prefer using NetScaler if possible, though any suggestions are welcome.  Thanks!

  • Method Scope variables controls Multi-Threading !

    Hye there Experts !
First, let me thank you all for such a brain-stuff sharing around; feel nice to be a part here.
While browsing through the below article, found something confusing...kindly clarify.
    http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-07-2004/jw-0712-threadsafe.html?page=1
Extract from the above discussion I understand :
when a variable is moved to method scope instead of instance scope, synchronization is achieved.
How is this true for servlets ???
Method scope variables are available only during method call I think...here, since this is a servlet, there will be only one instance and if many (lets say 10) requests hits this servlet object, all these threads will read same counter as all of them enter into this only one method of this object,
so...this should be still not thread safe I guess.
I didn't want to execute and see results of this code, but I am trying to understand the key at first.
Please guide me before brain blows... :-)
Would also appreciate any references that really says true things about
'synchronization for enterprize (handle huge requests) web apps - technques for servlets and any other stuff'
Thanks again guys, have a wonderful time.

feel nice to be a part here.Welcome to the mad-house ;-)
Method scope variables are available only during method callWARNING: I'm no guru, so this may be misleading or just plain wrong.. but as I understand it:
Yep a "local" variable exists only the context of the execution of it's containing method... so a local variable is implicitly bound to the thread that created it (by invoking the method in which the local is declared)... a local variable can't be accessed directly by another thread simply because the other thread has no access-path to the variable (you can't expose a local through getters & setters)... hence locals are thread safe.
The important bit is that it's the thread which "owns" the local variable... not the declaring method... if the method is executed concurrently by two threads, each thread will have its own private copy of all the local variables.
One other question though: are locals in static methods still thread safe? I'm not sure.

  • Need Expert's Advice - How to use LabView Efficiently and to increase Readability

My application is fairly complex. It is a real world testing applications that simultaneously controls 16 servo motors running various stress testing routines asynchronously and all at the same time. The application includes queues, state machines, sub VI's, dynamically launched VI's, subpanels, semaphores, XML files, ini files, global variables, shared variables, physical analog and digital interfaces and industrial networking. Just about every technique and trick that LabView 2010 has to offer and the kitchen sink as well.
Still I am not happy with the productivity that LabVIEW 2010 has provided, nor the readability of my final product.
Sometimes there are too many wires. Much of my state machines have a dozen or more wires just going from input to output, doing nothing, just because one or two states in the machine need that variable in some state. Yeah, I could spend alot of time bundling and unbundling and rebundling those values, but I don't think that would improve things much.
We have had a long discussion about the use or misuse of Local variables in this forum and I don't want to repeat that here. I use them sparingly where I think it is relatively safe to do so. I also have a bug whenever I try and copy some code that contains one or more local variables. On Pasting the code with local variables, the result is something other than what I expected, I am not sure what. I have to undo the paste and rebuild the code one object at a time.
I am also having trouble using trouble using Variable Property Nodes. When I cut and paste them, they often loose their reference object and I have to go back into the code and redo the Link To on each one. That wastes alot of time and effort.
Creating subVIs is often not appropriate when the code makes many references to objects on the Front Panel. Some simple code will turn into a bunch of object references and dereferences which also tends to take alot of work to clean up and often does not help overall readability in many cases. I use subVIs when appropriate, but because of the interface overhead, not as often as I would like to. My application already has over 150 sub VIs.
The LabView Clean Up Diagram function often works poorly. It leaves way too much empty space between objects, making my diagrams 3 to 4 24" screens wide. That is way too much and difficult to navigate effectively. The Clean Up function puts objects in strange places relative to other objects used nearby. It does a poor job routing wires and often makes deciphering diagrams more difficult rather than easier.
My troubleshooting strategies don't work well for large diagrams and complex applications. The diagrams are so complex that execution highlighting may take 20 minutes for a single pass. Probes help, but breakpoint aren't of much use, because single stepping afterwards often takes you to somewhere else in the same diagram. I can't follow the logic well doing this.
Using structures, I may have Case structures nested 5 to 10 levels deep inside some Event Structure inside a While Loop. Difficult to work with and not very readable.
All and all, I can make it work, but I am not happy about the end result.
I am hoping to benefit from some expert advice from those that are experienced in producing large complex applications efficiently, debugging efficiently and producing readable diagrams that they are proud of.
Can anyone offer their advice on how best to use the LabView features to achieve these results in complex applications? I hope that you can help show me the light.

I'm not an expert but I'm charged out as one at work.
I am off today so I'll share some thoughts that may help or possibly inspire others to chime. I have tried to continually improve my code in those areas and would greatly welcome others sharing their approaches and insights.
    Note:
I do refactoring services to help customers with this situation. What I will write does not represent what we do in a code review since our final delverable is a complete final design and that is beyond the scope of this reply.
    I'll comment on your points.

In software, we plant our foot when we turn from the design to the development. I have to admit that there where a couple of times when I moved from design to development too early and found myself in a situation like you have described.
How to know when design is done?
Waterfall says "cross every 't' and dot every 'i' " while Agile says "code now worry about design latter" and Bottom-up "says "demo working why bother designing" (Please feel free to coment on these over-simplifications gang).
My answer is not much more helpful for those new to LabVIEW.
My design work is done when my design diagrams are more complicated than the LabVIEW diagrm they describe.

Have you posted any design documents you have? These will help greatly in letting us understand your application. More on diagrams latter.
Anytime I see multiple "variations on a theme", I think LVOOP (LabVIEW OOP ) . I'll spare you the LVOOP sales pitch but will testify that once you get your first class cloned off and running as a sibling (or child) you'll appreciate how nice it is to be able to use LVOOP.
    Discalimer:
If you don't already have an OOP frame of mind, the learning curve will be steep.

     Full disclaimer:
I used to be of the same opinion and even used performance arguements to make my point. I have since, changed my mind.
Let me illustrate (hopefully). This link (if it works for you, use lefthand pane to navigate hierachy) shows an app I wrote from about 10 years ago when I was in my early days of routing wires. Even the "Main" VI started to suffer from too many wires as this preview from that links shows.
Clustering related data values using Type Definitions   is the first method I would would urge. This makes it easier to find the VIs that use the Type def via the browse relationships>>>callers. If I implement my code correctly, any problem I believe is associated with a particualr piece of data that is a Type def has to be in one of the VIs that use that type def therefore easier to maintain.
When I wrote "related data" I am refering data normalization rules (which my wife knows and I picked-up from her and I claim no expertise in this area) where only values that are used together are grouped. E.G. Cluster named File contains "Path" and "Refnum" but not "PhaseOfMoon". This works out nicely with first creating sub-VI since all of the data related to file operations are right there whe I need it and it leads into the next concept ...
When I look at a value in a shift register on the diagram taking up space that is only used in a small sub-set of states, I concider using an Action Engine . This moves the wire from the current diagram into the Action Engine (AE), and cleans up the diagram. The AE brings with it built-in protection so provided I keep all of the opearations related to the the Type def inside the AE I am protected when I start using multiple threads that need at that data (trust me, it may not make a difference now but end users are clever). So that extra wire is effective encapsualted and abstracted away from the diagram you are looking at.
But I said earlier that I would not sell LVOOP so I'll show you what LVOOP based LV apps look like to contrast what I was doing ten years ago in that earlier link. This is what the top level VI looks like.
And this is the Analysis mode of that app.
I suspose I should not mention that LVOOP has wizards that automatically create the sub-VI (accessors) that bundle/unbundle the clusters, should I?
    Continuing...

    dbaechtel wrote:

That sounds like a usage issue. Posting code to illustrate the process will et us take a shot at figuring out what is happening.
     dbaechtel wrote:

"Back in the day..." LV would not even try to create a sub-VI that involved controls/indicators. I use sub-VIs to maintain a common GUI often but I do it on purpose and when I find myself creating a sub-VI that involves a control/indicator, I hit ctrl-z immediately!
I figure a way around it (AE ?) and then do the sub-VI.
Judging by your brief explanation and assuming you do a LVOOP implementation, I would estimate that app need 750-1500 VIs.

THe clean-up works fine for how I use it. After throwing together "scratch code" and debugging the "rats nest" I'll hit clean-up as a first step. It guess good enough on simple digrams and in some cases inspires me to structure the diagram in a different way that I may not have thought about. If I don't like, ctrl-z.
Good deisgn and modualr implementaion led to smaller diagrams that just don't need thrre screens.

Smaller diagrams single step faster since the sub-VI run full speed. I cringe thinking about a 3-screen diagram with multiple probes open ( shivver!).

    Sub-VIs (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)

  • Scope of  Business Objects in MDM

    Hi MDM Experts
What is the scope of Business Objects in MDM,
How MDM can leverage its features and functionalities by using Business Objects.
    Regards
    Gaurav

    Hi
I know that "MillerCoors" was using SAP MDM & BO DQ
The comparison between SAP MDM & BO DQ capabilities are listed below. Putting it straight.
    1) Both have data quality capabilities. Validations for SAP MDM & Transforms for BO DQ. But the capabilities of BO DQ are much stronger than SAP MDM
    2) Both have de-duplication functionalities. While SAP MDM does not provide fuzzy matching capabilities, you more effectively find duplicates using BO DQ. But, merging of records, selecting individual fields for merged record is not possible in BO DQ. SAP  MDM has an upper hand here.
    3) Data enrichment is not possible in SAP MDM. BO DQ has built in dictionaries for Address check, zip codes etc.
Both tools have capabilities to connect to third party service like D&B. SAP MDM via the Enrichment Controller & DQ via web services.
    4) Data Management workflow capabilities of integrating users, data stewards in the data quality process is better in SAP MDM.
Based on these points, if one is going for a BO DQ + SAP MDM approach, to get the best results we can design all the data quality validations, transformations, de-duplication, enrichment in BO DQ & the master data management activities like data governance, business process etc in SAP MDM.

  • Scope of SAP GRC

    Hi Experts,
    Need ur valuable suggestion..
I am getting opportunity to work on GRC module.
How is the scope for GRC Consultant in near future?? Is it very specialized module.
    awaiting ur reply..
    Julie

    Hi Julie,
SAP GRC as it name states is on Governance Risk and Compliance. It has very good scope and it has below submodules:
    1) Access Control
    2) Process Control
    3) Risk Management
    4) Employee Health Security
    5) Global Trade Service
The GRC module has focus on Security and compliance, which is need of the hour.

  • Scope of List in ME3M, Vendor List per Material Group

    Dear Experts,
In ME3M, ME3L or ME3C, Can we define one of the criterias in F4 list of the scope of list as PR (Non-Service) only during searching Purchasing Documents?
Is it possible to adapt material group and vendor list  with corresponding validity period as master record?
Thanks in advance if anybody can enlight me.
    With Records,
    Subhro

    hi,
    As said above,
Neither i can see hw can i add PR (non-services), hw to add material group parameter nor vendor / date parameter to get added into scope of list....
I don't think its possible from above given link...
better you use the material group, vendor or doc. date entried in the main screen of ME2M and refine your search....

There is no scope of list field in the ML84. I would like to have this list in ALV format.
How can I do this please?

    Hi,
You must activate it via parameter ID ME_USE_GRID = 'X' in the user master record.

    hi experts,
i have to add some fields in me5j t-code, for this i have copied the standard program as z prog. But at time of execution it gives an error
"Scope of list ALV not defined (please correct)
    Message no. ME287"
At the time of debugging i found gf_factory object is not filled, but im unable to trace that variable
even i have searhed the same on SDN but the quetion is not answerd.
    please help me out ASAP.

    thanks in advance
    Neha

    i got the problem
    in fm
    ME_REP_GET_TABLE_MANAGER  -->   l_factory(object) -->im_service(variable)
    l_active = l_factory->is_active( im_service = l_service  im_scope = im_scope ).
im_service  variable has programe name, im_scope has "ALV" . then it execution goes in case statement where it checks the im_service with standard prog name.
as in case im_service has zprog, so it doesnt go to any when case and hence the prob.
    any sugesstion..?????
