OmniPortlet, Linux and graphs a problem?

I have the OmniPortlet working under Linux and made a tab report against emp. Worked fine.
I then set the style to chart instead. Now I cant press OK on the portlet definition page or edit or view the page. I just get "Internal server error".
In the portalTools application log file i get:

Any ideas?
I believe I hav DISPLAY set up right in the right conf-files (but who nows)...
Kind regards

Sorry for the delay, I couldn't access the server any sooner.
Which version of OmniPortlet are you using ?Version: 9.0.2.6.1 June 27 2003
In the config page it says that DISPLAY is not configured.
I've set it for OC4J_Portal in $MID_HOME/opmn/conf/opmn.xml. I've also set it in $MID_HOME/portal/902dcm/opmn.xml and in $MID_HOME/portal/9023dcm/opmn.xml.
I ran dcmctl updateConfig and restarted the midtier but it's still "not configured" in the config page.
The application.log also complain about the DISPLAY not being set.
Any suggestions? Are there other files?
My sysadmin has said DISPLAY should be localhost:1.0
The data is just ename and salary from scott.emp but it must be the DISPLAY that's causing my problems.

  • RH Linux and AQ performance problem

I am running RH Linux 7.1 with Oracle 8.1.7. My web application
works fine until a specific point when I begin using AQ. Part of
the AQ initialization in my application is to create 8 DB
connections which pole the DB every 500 ms. These connections
cause the web application to begin processing extremely slowly
(about 30 seconds between pages). There has been a proposal that
this might be due to a Linux threading issue. Any ideas?
As a side note, I first noticed the problem after recreating a DB
with the JServer option included (as I am writing Java stored
procedures too). To eliminate this from concern I have executed
jvmrm.sql to remove the java classes in the database. My
    original problems continues to exist.
    Thanks,
    David

I am assuming you are polling the database for messages in
queues to be dequeued every few seconds on these eigh
    connections.
    Suggestions -
    a) why don't use notification mechanism and let the database
tell you if there is a message for you to dequeue.
    b) why do you need eight connections?

  • Problems using RMI between linux and windows.

I have problems using RMI between linux and windows.
    This is my scenario:
    - Server running on linux pc
    - Clients running on linux and windows PCs
When a linux client disconnect, first time that server try to call a method of this client, a rmi.ConnectException is generated so server can catch it, mark the client as disconnected and won't communicate with it anymore.
When a windows client (tested on XP and Vista) disconnect, no exceptions are generated (I tryed to catch all the rmi exception), so server cannot know that client is disconnected and hangs trying to communicate with the windows client.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for your reply.
Yes, we are implementing a sort of callback using Publisher (remote Observable) and Subscribers (remote Observer). The pattern and relative code is very well described at this link: http://www2.sys-con.com/ITSG/virtualcd/java/archives/0210/schwell/index.html (look at the notifySubscribers(Object pub, Object code) function).
Everything works great, the only problem is this: when a Publisher that reside on a Linux server try to notify something to a "dead" Subscriber that reside on a Windows PC it does't receive the usual ConnectException and so tends to hang.
As a workaround we have solved now starting a new Thread for each update (notification), so only that Thread is blocked (until the timeout i guess) and not the entire "notifySubscribers" function (that contact all the Subscribers).
Beside this, using the Thread seem to give us better performance.
Is that missed ConnectException a bug? Or we are just making some mistake?
We are using java 6 and when both client and server are Linux or Windows the ConnectException always happen and we don't have any problem.
I hope that now this information are enough.
    Thanks again and greetings.

  • [SOLVED-partly] Linux and no internet connection

Well, since mid November I have nothing but problems with my Arch Linux machine. I can't get any internet connection on that machine. I have a network at home with 2 windows machines (XP & Vista), a Windows 2003 server running as an Exchange server and DNS server and Domain controller and ps3, xbox 360 and Wii. The two windows machines run on a static IP, the ps3, xbox 360 and Wii run on dhcp. All machines run on LAN through a switch except the Wii it runs on wireless. Now my Arch Linux machine also runs on static IP set up as described in the installation guide via rc.conf, hosts and resolv.conf. As mentioned earlier since mid November I haven't been able to get any internet connection on that machine. I haven't changed anythnig in my setup on the machine or the network. when i start the machine for the first time during a day I actually do the get internet connection and network connection but if I restart then I lose it. I am not able to ping the gateway or the DNS server. I can get interrnet back again I turn off the machine and turn off the motherboard and let the machine cool off for 20 minutes. Then if I turn it on again I have internet again but if i'll have to restart then the problem reappears.
After two weeks with this issue I decided to get network card but that didn't help either I still had the problem. Then I simply bought a new machine (DELL Studio) and did a fresh installation of Arch and STILL the problem exists and it is driving me FREAKING CRAZY NOW!!! I tried to my machine on dhcp but still the same issue. internet on first boot, reboot no internet or network, shutdown machine and motherboard (unplug machine) --> internet again after waiting 20 minutes. None of my other machines running windows or the consoles have problems getting internet. I've tried to run distros on the machines (Ubuntu Live CD) but I have the same problem. I am very close to going back to windows and I REALLY don't want to (been using Linux since 2003) but this problem here is a show stopper/EPIC FAIL. I am very very happy with Arch Linux and really don't want to change distro either. I need suggestions now on what I can look for in order to find the problem. I've already changed network cards, bought a new machine and even bought new switch because we thought it might be the switch causing the problems (8 port switch) because turning off the switch would give me my internet back. Again it is only my Linux machine that is having the connection problems none of the other machines have those.
    PLEASE HELP!!!
    Kind Regards

Well, I celebrated a bit to fast after 30 minutes or so I lost internet connection but not by restarting. I didn't use the computer for like 30 minutes and when I did tried to open a browser nothing happended. I tried then to ping the gateway and the server but couldn't reach them. So I turned off the computer completely for 20 minutes and then I started again and chenged the DNS address from my server to the DNS addresses I get directly from my ISP. So I'm going around the server now and seems to work for now. This morning I could start the machine and restart it 2 times and every time I had internet. Hope this solves it for now, still don't understand what the problem is though.

  • Share files between Arch Linux and XP Home

Hi, I have an Arch Linux desktop and a XP Home Laptop both connected to a Billion 7401 ADSL Router to get to the internet. If I am using any computer sometimes I have a need to use files from the other one, and from an external HDD connected to the XP laptop. I have been googling for the last 3 weeks but could not find a concrete solution to this issue, maybe because I don't understand much about networking or p2p, and samba. Looks like I have to spend more money on either another computer to be setup as a server or on a router or hub or switch? But I thought my Billion Router is already a router? I wonder if you can please help me to solve this problem or point me to a good link? Thanks a lot.

SSHFS is another more Linux native option for sharing files (and it can be compatible with XP too using special programs).
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSHFS
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sshfs
As I understand it XP Home uses simple file sharing which can be really insecure depending on your needs.  Once when I ran a computer with Linux and was needing to set up a samba share I discovered massive issues since (at the time) I was connecting regularly over a shared wireless network among untrusted persons.  I ended up looking into using SSH tunneling to overcome the issues associated with XP Home's Simple File sharing and that is when I came across SSHFS.
Whatever you do make sure to read this about XP Home's "Simple Filesharing"
    http://www.centerlineit.com/index.php?v … q&Itemid=9
    It's important you understand it.

  • How to set owner-only access file permissions both on Linux and Windows

    Hi everybody.
I have the following problem. I need to store some private user information in file system. So I need to set owner-only access permissions for some directory in user home. I did not find API for doing this. As I understand this is platform specific thing. Could anybody tell me how can I do this both on Linux and Windows?
    Thank you in advance.

More ideas just came back to me (of something I did before)
Each OS requires a different control.
For Windows you will need to set the .policy file for each user (a pain if you have more than a dozen of clients) granting access (R or RW) to files/directories.
Then you have to write some native code (access via JNI) to access/modify your authorization.
A more professional solution that I used was J-Integra (other similar tool exist).
Basically it is a bridge between Java and COM. It magically give you access to the COM API from Java (and vice versa).
In my case it was to read/write/modify Winword documents transfered between PC and server.
From memory you have to run the com2java.exe to build the bridge (classes in Java language) between the 2 families. Compile those classes and you have a "driver" for the COM (Microsoft Objects).
Here I must confess my ignorance on Microsoft.
Those COM objets must give you some easy/integrated access to the API for LDAP or Microsoft Active Directory Service (for centralize control with more complex setup).

  • New hard drive and photoshop license problem

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 with a 1.5 Ghz Pentium processor, 2 GB of RAM, and Win Xp/Pro SP3.
The hard drive in this computer failed, and it has been replaced.  I used an image backup from Acronis True Image 10 to "restore" the new disk.
Now, when I try to open Phostoshop CS2, I receive a message that the license is no longer valid (I have been using this version of Photoshop for a long time).
    I don't have this problem with InDesign CS3 (v. 5.0.2), FrameMaker 7.2b144, or Acrobat 8.1.6.
I didn't find any helpful info on the "Product Activation" web page.
I tried a forum search and a search of Adobe.com using the search criteria "new hard drive and photoshop license problem."
The only relevant item I could find is this:
"Backup and restoration of your system using standard tools do not require reactivation. While reactivation after backing up or restoring the system was required in early versions of Adobe software (such as Adobe Photoshop® CS), Adobe has continued to improve the activation process with new technology that eliminates the need to reactivate after system restoration. In complex situations where the system is being upgraded, we recommend deactivating the Adobe software before commencing the system upgrade. Once the system upgrade is completed, the subsequent install/restore will require reactivation, which is typically accomplished without difficulty and is completely transparent to the user."
So does that mean I have to "reactivate" Photoshop CS2?  If so, do I use the Activation window that is displayed when I open Photoshop?  The serial number has 20 characters.  Will the Adobe (re)activation recognize this old serial number?  If not, what do I have to do to get this product usable again?
    Please help.

    >replaced your hard drive and CS2 DRM is looking for the old hard drive number and not finding it
Interesting... I use http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-linux.htm which creates a bootable CD and runs outside of Windoze
I have made image files and loaded those files to a new hard drive (I use drive swap hardware to make a backup and create a new drive every time I install or uninstall major software) and have never had any program complain about needing activation
But, since the program I use is Linux on a bootable CD, it copies EVERYTHING on a hard drive, even the hidden registration areas as far as I can tell, so when I do a restore to a new drive, everything is put on the new drive

  • XY Graph Cursor Problem in Labview 7.1.1?

    Hallo,
I am  using Labview 7.1.1 and I am facing one problem with XY graph cursor. If I am moving cursor in one graph, I am expecting same movement in another Graph. But when I move cursor in Graph1, cursor in second graph moves but not to exact X value of Graph1.
Property of Cursor in both graphs must be "Lock to Plot"
If any body knows about this please let me know ASAP. I am attaching example VI for your reference.
    Thanks,

It's a curious effect. Probably the floating point coordinate is sensitive to the exact pixel alignment (I mean that this would not happen if we had for example 1 pixel per point in the X direction).
Anyway, if you use Cursor Index instead (which is an integer) the behaviour is as expected.

  • Graph Legend problem

    Hi all.
I am using Studio Edition Version 11.1.1.0.1 and got some problems with graph legend. I have a Pie chart and a bar graph which are made from the same read only view object and I can´t understand why the legend on them don´t show the same things when they are made from the same view object. The pie has a status attribute choosen as slices and the bar graph has the same status attribute choosen as bars and it is these things I thought decide what names are shown in the legend. The values for the status are shown in the legend names but the pie shows the legend names in the same order as the query in the view object while the the bar graph show them in the opposite order. How can I make them show the legend names in the same order?

  • Oracle DB sessions on Linux and Windows

Actually I am confused the way session memory is allocated on 32 bit windows and linux OS.
Windows is a thread based architecture where all user sessions are treated as threads of oracle.exe process. The addressable space is 4GB and oracle.exe can use up to 3GB in case you use /3GB switch in boot.ini file. It means that combined size of SGA ,PGA and other memory structures can not be more than 3GB. When a session gets connected with a database a PGA is allocated. It means that memory required by database sessions also comes from the 3GB limit. If your memory usage goes beyond 3GB you wont be able to connect new sessions with database or you would require to reduce the size of one of your SGA components.
Linux is a process based architecture where each user session is treated as a separate process and has its own addressable space. Even on 32bit linux the addressable space is 4GB i.e. 2GB for process and 2GB for kernel. It means we need to accommodate our SGA and PGA in the 2GB limit (there are ways to increase the size of SGA but let assume we are doing nothing to raise the 2GB limit).
As PGA is allocated for every session when it connects with database.
My question is how PGA memory is allocated against a database session on linux.
To further clarify my question I am stating the results of an experiment that I did on linux and windows.
On windows I set the total size of SGA to 1730M and PGA aggregate target to 1024M. I was able to able to startup the database instance without any issue. Then I started connecting sessions with the database and even ran a query doing a heavy sort in one of the sessions but after connecting 10 sessions with DB I started getting ORA-12500 TNS Listener failed to start a dedicated server process error on windows.
Then I did the same experiment on Red Hat Linux. SGA size was 1633MB and where as PGA aggregate target was only 10MB. I was unable to start instance when I set the SGA size more than 1633MB.
With that setting I was able to connect more than 200 sessions with database inspite of running query doing heavy sort in 4 sessions without getting ORA-12500 error. I was even able to connect more than 400 sessions with database after setting PGA aggregate target to 1GB on Linux.
Now my confusion is why linux was able to handle more DB sessions. I know it’s a process base model and each session is a separate process and has its own addressable space but as PGA is allocated against every session and PGA memory comes from 2GB limit then why PGA memory did not exhaust on linux. Is PGA allocated differently on linux as compared to windows?

Perhaps the problem is easier to understand if you leave PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET out of this issue completely.
The out of memory problem you had, has nothing to do with PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET setting directly. The difference in number of processes comes from architectural differences in how Oracle uses memory in windows vs unix.
On windows the SGA + ALL PGAs must fit into one 4GB address space (in practice even smaller as youve noticed). This is because there's only one process, oracle.exe. One process = one address space.
On Unix, you have many processes and every process can use portion of their own address space for PGA.
So, on windows (32bit) you run out of address space for the single oracle.exe process. On unix you dont hit this limit just because the number of processes grows (but if some process wants to use a lot of PGA memory, then they eventually run out of address space (talking about 32bit again))
On unix you probably ran into another limit - amount of total usable virtual memory (RAM+swap) available in your system

  • Function-Based Indexes (FBI) on Linux and Solaris

I have a question about FBI on different systems (Linux and Solaris).
    ---- Oracle on Linux -----
    SQL> CREATE TABLE T_DUMMY(NAME VARCHAR(20));
    Table created.
    SQL> CREATE INDEX T_DUMMY_IDX ON T_DUMMY(UPPER(NAME));
    Index created.
However, when I do the same on the Oracle running on Solaris, I get the following error:
    ---- Oracle on Solaris -----
    SQL> CREATE TABLE T_DUMMY(NAME VARCHAR(20));
    Table created.
    SQL> CREATE INDEX T_DUMMY_IDX ON T_DUMMY(UPPER(NAME));
    CREATE INDEX T_DUMMY_IDX ON T_DUMMY(UPPER(NAME))
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
I know that I have to add "QUERY REWRITE" in order to create a FBI. However, why Oracle on Linux behave differently. Would it be any difference/problem if I do NOT add "QUERY REWRITE" for Oracle on Linux (For example, would the EXPLAIN PLAN different)?

general user settings are the same (privilege, role) Well, the specific settings must be different. I would check to see whether one of the roles has been granted the QUERY REWRITE system privilege on your Linux instance but not on Solaris.

  • I have a neslab chiller and want to read the temperature by sending ASCII characters and graph the results, any advice?

I am having difficulty having the chiller recognize (RT[CR]) which is the signal recognized by the chiller to read the temperature. The signal that is returned is (xxx.xx[CR]) which is the temperature. I am attempting to be able to read the temperature and graph this vs time and possibly be able to change the setpoint as well from the UIR.

I agree with Randy that Hyperterminal is a good starting point to test cabling and communication.
In your program, be careful to serial port initialization (how to set baud rate, parity, data bits and stop bits depends on the language used) and to termination character ([CR] means Carriage return: if you are usng CVI it DOESN'T add CR to the message unless you esplicitly put it in).
Another interesting point is the time the instrument takes to respond to the message: it can vary from message to message and is usually described in the instrument's documentation. If you test for a shorter time, you catch a false 'no response'. You could make a while loop and test in it the number of bytes received, then decide whether to end the loop for timeout or answer recei

  • Different soap request in 9.2.0.4 linux and windows for same webservice

    hi,
i deployed a webservice on iis5 (dotnet 1.1). the client for this web service is written in java and is loaded into oracle db (9.2.0.4 linux). and there are errors. the same java code is working fine on 9.2.0.4 windows.

what can cause this behaviour? is there a way to prevent sending the xsi:nil attribute?
    thanks
    ralf

This is just one of the web service interop problems you can face. Both omitting the accessor with the NULL value as in your "working request" and placing xsi:nil attribute with the value "true" as in "not working request" are valid in soap messages. The problem happens when either the soap client or soap server/container does not fully support the soap spec or support with wrong interpretations. Most of the toolkit are not sophisticated enough to let you choose one of two options above.
Maybe you might want to consider not allowing non-null values so that you can get around with the interop problem, and add logic in the client and service implementation to handle special cases for default values indicating null.
    Below is FYI.
SOAP 1.1 spec says the following.
"A NULL value or a default value MAY be represented by omission of the accessor element. A NULL value MAY also be indicated by an accessor element containing the attribute xsi:null with value '1' or possibly other application-dependent attributes and values."
On the other hand, there is no "null" attribute in http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance namespace referenced by xsi in your soap messages, and xsi:nil is the valid attribute name.

  • Graph search problem

och, were to start. I have implemented an Adjaceny set Graph using list of nodes and edges, the problem that I'm having is with the find path kind of breadth first search but with problems.
What I'm doing is having two queues one for visited nodes and one for nodes that have not bee visited. so my find path method takes in two nodes the source and destination and performs an initial check to see if the nodes are not already connected, if they are then all is well if not things go a bit pear-shaped.
what happens so I have one Q opeanQ with the first node that has been visited and then I search for all the edges that leave this node and add them to the closed Q for them to be search then I enter a while loop that checks to see if the closed Q is not empty and also checks to see if the openQ of visited nodes does not contain a node that we are about to determine if it connects to the destination or not, but what happens is that when it checks the openQ to see if a node in the closedQ exists there it does but it shouldn't cause the openQ only has one node in it the source node so far.
What I think is happening is a pass by reference problembut not too sure how to get around it, cuase the graph is made up of linked list of nodes and I think that when it is in the open Q it is still reffereing to the linked list of graph nodesand when I check to see if a node in the openQ exists or not it always returns true for all nodes because of the getNextNode call to cycle through all the nodes in the openQ but it should only contain one, but think that its getting more nodes due to it being attached a linked list of nodes an seems to be referencing it somewhere.
    any ideas

  • Linux and Weblogic .

    Hi ,
Does anybody has an experience running Linux and Weblogic 5.1/6.0
    as
application server in the production ?
What are performance benefits/drawbacks comparing to NT & Weblogic?
    Thank you in advance,
    Vlad

I had problems installing Weblogic 6 on Redhat 9, but was able to get 7 and 8 to install without any issues.

    Hi,
I loaded up Redhat 8.0 on a development workstation . I started to
download Weblogic 7 but noticed that it only supported for version 7.2
    of redhat (not even 7.3).
Will Weblogic 7 run on RH 8.0? What about WL 8? Or Redhat 9? Or other
    distros...
I've found some compatibility matrixes, but they seem out of date.
A google search didn't yield much.
    thanks,
