Is there a way to simplify this:

This is used in a word game and I am hoping that there is a
way to simplify this rather than having to do this for each
individual input textfield as I am having to do now.
Any assistance will be appreciated.
Maybe something like this (I haven't tried to test it). It
may be even better if you got actionscript to create the textfields
dynamically as well.

But, what if a same value is entered again and again ? this does not call onChange function. How can we call the function, if same value is entered again and again.

I want to execute Onchange2 automatically whenever Onchange1 is executed.
I mean whenever Onchange1 is executed...I want Onchange2 javascript to fire automatocally..

I want to give option like pay by credit card or check.
If one select credit card in select option it opens credit card related form inputs/Check than check related form inputs before submiting form.

I belive I need to use Java script onChange event but I never did Java script before, can any one help me on it?
I have been using cfcase and submiting form at each and than made session variable to generate appropriate result but now I wanrt to do some change.For learning js, I recommend the book, Teach Yourself Javascript in 24 Hours. It's how I learned. There are also tutorials on webmonkey.
For what you are trying to do specifcally, I would put the credit card and bank stuff in separate divs and use js to show and hide them. Google "javascript show hide" to find code samples. -
View with columns based on function - problem with query

I'm using Oracle 9i;
I've created a view which has columns based on a table columns (multiple columns from 1 table) and funtion (multiple columns based on 1 function).
The function takes ID as the first argument and name of the column to determine which value to return as the second one.
Here is a sample of such function (simplified):

There is no problem with query:
SELECT * FROM my_view;
The problem arises when I query the view (regardles of '=' or 'LIKE'):
SELECT * FROM my_view
WHERE name LIKE '%some_part_of_name%'
The query returns rows for same names, for same it doesn't. If I put '=' and the whole name the query returns nothing, but when I put 'LIKE' and the first letter it returns rows in some cases.
I've tried to debug this situation and I've discovered that the function recives ID not in the proper order and not the same amount of times - in explicit:
for each ID in (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, ... , 100) the function should be called twice for each ID and in the same order, but it does not.
I get 1, 1, 2, 3, 3, 6, 20, 20 and so on.
Help needed.
Greetings.The problem is more complicated than the solutions provided here.
The reason why I'm using the function is this:
the original view was constructed using multiple union all selects and the speed was terrible. I've created the index on the base table to obtain a proper sort. For retriving all records at once the view works perfectly, but if one wants to query by columns based on function the results are suprisng - sometimes there are, some times there are none, or if you serch with "like" and only a part of string there are results, but with "=" there are no results.

How to add a hand tool (grab the page and drag) function on Chrome and firefox pdf viewer?
To clarify, hand tool is a function for user click on the pdf and dragging around , that is used to replace the scroll bar navigating .
The problem is, by default the Chrome and firefox pdf viewer do not have that function and I would like allow the user to drag the page.
A workaround is to use a jquery plugin (grab to pan https://github.com/Rob--W/grab-to-pan.js in my case) with an embed object (pdf viewer). When I maximum the size of the pdf and user drag the embed object.
The problem I have encounter is
1) When using chrome/ firefox, the pdf content do not fit to the page but auto resize by default even I have set the adobe pdf open parameter , using iframe.
2) The jquery seems conflict with the firefox pdf viewer, it works smoothly on Chrome but not firefox.

JavaScript Async Method call on the OnChange event of a lookup
Hello,
I try to fill dynamically a lookup-multi field by selecting a value in a dropdownlist based on a lookup field.
I recreated the onchange event of my dropdowlist by using this code :
lookupElement.onchange = function () { OnFormationChanged() };
When a user select an element in the dropdownlist, "OnFormationChanged" event run an Async method who retrieve elements joined with the selected element in the dropdownlist lookup.
This part works fine, it automatically refresh the multi lookup field but when i save my custom page I got the error :
Value does
not fall within expected range
When I do alert in the OnFormationChanged, it retrieve me for example '0' in the onChange event and '3' in the Asynch event as you can see in this screenshot :
I deduced that the save event method take a wrong result.
For example :
A : If I select in the lookup dropdownlist an element with no attached result in the multi lookup, I will have '0' in the "OnFormationChanged" method and '0' in the "OnQuerySucceeded" method and the multilookup will be empty.
B : If NOW I select in the lookup dropdownlist an element with results in the multi lookup, I will have '0' in the "OnFormationChanged" method and '3' in the OnQuerySucceeded" method and the multilookup will be filled.
But when I save the custom page I will have the error : Value does not fall within expected range as if async result was not recognized by the save button.
Something seems not to be set correctly.Could you give me a way to resolve this issue ?

How to use onChange with edittext?
Hi,
This is how I'd like my script to work:
In the first window, the user fills a few edittext-boxes with numbers. Clicking OK, a second window appears, where the previously entered values and results of calculations based on said numbers are displayed.
Dismissing the second dialog with OK, another script from the same folder is started which receives the variables from the second window. The second menu has a back button which directs the user back to the first window.
Would this be possible? I'm just beginning to script, so any help would be very appreciated.

First you made some confusing and mistake
Keep in mind , that dialogbox are unsynchronisious.. i explain (i try , i'm not expert)
1) you prepare your first dialogbox
- here a panel
- add 'edittext' box with value
2) you prepare your second dialogbox
- here a panel
- add 'edittext' box with your variable from first dialogbox, but at this time, dialogbox isn't running so value=undefined
3) you call first dialbox
Finally, you need consider your second dialogbox as embed in onClick function, because when onClick will be invoqued, value(s) will be really present.

In html:select tag, i'm using onchange function to submit the page. The problem here is, after selecting a value, if I immediately select another from the combo,it again submits but the page renders with blank page. is there is anyother way to solve this??

This function contains errorHappy(evt); (I know it's a redundant function, but please bear with me).
This works fine.
Just wondering if instead of...
errorHappy(evt);
... it's possible to call with something like...
["error"+evt.target.name](evt);
I can't get it to work, even though trace("error"+evt.target.name); displays errorHappy.
Any ideas?

You seem to be passing everything in the book to every function and I would guess that probably none of it is necessary. If you declared those variables at the beginning, then you don't need to pass them into any function because they are gobally available to any of the code/functions that follows them. Similarly, if you have textfields on the stage, you do not need to pass those into any functions for the same reason.
I see you making overuse of "delete" (and possibly errant use as well). Probably the only thing you might want/need to use is...
delete Subjectxtimer_mc.onEnterFrame;
Which stops the enterframe activity from firing off, which I will guess is being used to update the textfields that indicate the time.
And that conditional that uses == Nan isn't likely to do anything except wonder what an Nan is. Textfields hold strings, which are quoted. SO unless you have a variable named Nan somewhere that has a String value assigned to it, that conditional won't be doing anything for you. You probably won't need it at all if you get this working properly. -
How to pass tabular report col reference in the onChange event of Txtfield
Hi there
I need to have Onchange event on Textfield Item.
Whenever i change the text field value, the new value should go to particular column in my
tabular report.
So in the onchange event, i have to pass the tabular report column (target field) along with textfield value (this.value)
something like this:
onChange="javascript:changeColVal(this,rowid);"
I have no clue how to pass row id / particular column of tabular report in textfield.
Any pointers on this would be of great help.

Application highlights the row whenever we move up/down or click the row.
Here, i've NOTES in tabular report and Comments "text field" in separate HTML region.
Whenever i type/update comments in textfeild, it should goto Notes column in Tabular report.
so that when we move up/down the tabular report rows, it should show corresponding Notes in Comments text field.
Approach i've took:
1) Created a function hiliterow, that highlights the row clicked/move up or down and
also displays the Notes Column of Tabular report into Comments Textfield.
(this is to display Notes if already avail to that particular row, otherwise Null)
2) Function passValues would assign the value we type in Comments Text field to
Notes column of Tabular Report. (as of now, this is happening only when we click on that particular row after key-in the value in Comments txtfield,
but this should happen when onChange event on comment textfield)
3) In MoveupDown function, i'm refering the current row in var r. so i tought to have global var to hold current row, so that i can
refer the same row in Onchange Event of Textfield. But this fails (please refer NotesToRow function)
My requirement is to pass the Comments text field value to Tabular report when onChange event on Comments Text feild happens.
I'm helpless in passing row reference to onChange function.
Any pointer on this would be of immense help.

Random Delete tool with Scriptographer
Hi, I am trying to refine the RandomTools created for Scriptographer so that it suits my preference, but I can't figure it out in Javascript. Not knowing a lot of Javascript don't help me either!
Here is the script, simplified to conserv only the Delete part. What I would like to do is to enter a percentage, and then this would be the percentage of selected object removed.
If anyone would point me to a direction with that, It would be really great.

Right now, the script will delete a random number of items, depending of the number you give in the dialog box, and the number is somehow in relation with the quantity of items selected.
