  • Help a stressed Mum

My Son who is 5 likes to change his password regularly so his sister can't get into it. Now he has changed it and can't remember it what do I do.

  • My mum set up an iCloud account and forgot the password, and this caused me to create a new account. The new account works for the App Store and all that, but I can't change the initial iCloud account without the password. Help?

My mum set up an iCloud account for my iPhone 4 but forgot the password. This caused me to create a new account, and it can be used for the App Store and iTunes and all that, but I can't change the initial iCloud account (the one my mum made). My device keeps prompting me for the password every few minutes after updating to iOS 8, and I've tried every option possible to retrieve the password, but I don't even know the answers to the security questions and I can't find the password reset email anywhere and I don't know the back up emails my mum used. I literally cannot find any legitimate way to sign out of the initial iCloud account without entering a password (which neither I nor my parents know). Is there a way for me to retreive the password or change to my new account without the password?

  • Still on 10.6.5 but having wifi problems with Canon MP495

At least I think it is a wifi problem? Love this printer - worked brilliantly since I have had it and not had any issues with it at all once installed properly. However, over the past 3/4 weeks I keep getting communication problems and the wifi button/light flashes during printing and more often than not the printing stops and spits out the paper with only a few lines printed. I then have to pause the printer and resend several times - and I'd be lucky to get a complete print without error 1 out of 5 times. I have not changed position of the printer. The kids laptops with windows 7 did not appear to have this problem until first thing this morning when my daughter needed to print something for school on 'special paper' and guess what - it stopped and spat it out half way through! Any clues as to what to do wold be very much appreciated.

I have moved the printer as the signal was low - 38% and link 36%. It has increased slightly up to 48% but that is on the dining room table now Why would the signal change? It used to communicate without any problems at all - this is very disappointing.
There can be a number of reasons why the change has occurred but the most common is other wireless devices causing interference, and not just from your house. If a neighbour is using a wireless router on the same channel as yours then this can cause interference. A quick fix can sometimes come from turning off the wireless router for a minute and then back on. Many routers will check what wireless channels are being used and select one that is not being used by another router within range. If the router cannot do this automatically then a manual setting of a channel can help.
There are some utilities that can scan your premises for all wireless signals. This can assist with locating an unused channel. The following is an app that I have used for helping friends with wireless issues.
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/27740/airradar
Can I confirm that it is actually linking with the pc/mac that sends the print and not the router?
The printer should be linking to the wireless router and the computers should also link to the same router. The printer does not support a direct connection to it from a wireless computer.
I really do not want to have to move the printer every time I/the kids need to use it. I think I'll update to 10.6.6 just to see if that makes a difference and revert soon.
I don't believe the 10.6.6 will resolve this. And you also said that the Win7 computer also had problems so it would suggest there is more of a problem with the connection from the router to the printer.

  • With iTunes,12.01.26,where are the devices?

Now that we don't have the old sidebar, when I click on playlist, everything shows,
but my iPhone 6 nor my iPad do not show.  These both sync over wifi, they use
to show up under devices and I could make what ever change I wanted.
They show up if I plug them in, I am not sure where to look
    thanks
    Mike

I've updated one of my devices to iOS8.1. Not syncing over wifi yet. Sent feedback to Apple.
As for the layout (@stressed mum and tdoyle10)...You have you're sidebar. Just click on playlists. It's functionality is limited to playlists and content for your iDevices. The rest has been moved to the white bar. This way your playlists are always next to the library-content and managing playlists is easier.
Just play with the program for a while. It takes a little getting used to, but it grows on you. In a few weeks you have forgotten it used to be any different.
(except for the ugly red icon, I won't get used to that)

  • Does TM only back up if there have been changes?

Only got around to setting up TM yesterday, and I notice that are several backups - more likely hourly or so - but today, I have been beavering away for nearly 3 hours and not one backup has taken place. I did find a 'backup now' option which I have done - but what has happen to regular hourly backups?

    Stressed Mum wrote:
ok Graham - thanks. I have set mine to never too now - it makes sense to me. Yesterday continued with regular backups - although not hourly as suggested. However, today I have 13 backups - so that's more like it. I have noticed also that TM has started to remove old backups? That's right I guess as it obviously needs space.
No, that's normal. Time Machine "thins" your backups, per the specs on the Preferences window:
    |
    |
Does it remove the very first one with all the OSX on it
Not really. Every backup is, in effect, a full one, so you can always do a full system restore from +*any remaining backup.+* That seems odd, but it's true. See How Time Machine works its Magic for an explanation.

  • How to stop Syncing two iPhones

I have Phone 4s an bought one for mum, how do I stop mine from auto sync apps with mums iPhone?

Set yours up as a brand new iPhone.  Doing the following would completely erase it and make it as if you just took it out of the box software-wise:
Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings
Again, it will then look like a brand new iPhone.  You would set up your own Apple ID and password, and start from scratch with nothing but what comes on the iPhone.

  • Can't boot Power Mac G5 up from anything (DVD, USB or HDD)

Hope someone can help me with this one
My mum has an old PowerMac G5, the dual-core 2GHz one (I can't remember what it is exactly) and it won't boot up anymore.
At first I replaced the hard drive because it was making some funny sounds... scratchy-ness.. then with the new hard drive, my dad was able to install 10.3 on it which booted up pretty reliably after reseting the SMU. Then I thought I'd replace the 10.3 installation with 10.5.8, so i tried to install it off a 10.5.8 disk just by booting into to 10.3, opening the disc and clicking the 'Instal Mac OS X' thing, then restarting. But the computer would just keep restarting to 10.3
long story short, the computer won't even turn on now. The light next to the power button doesn't come on, but the fans are on and the hard drive is alive. I've tried booting from the original 10.3 DVD, but that doesn't work either. The DVD drive spins up for like 20-30 seconds, then stops.
I've got one of these: http://www.everymac.com/images/monitor_pictures/apple_cinema_display.jpg and the power button light doesn't come on on that either.
The computer was working fine up until a few days ago.
I've reseated the RAM, reset the SMU, tried booting with C held down. Nothing seems to work.
    Thanks in advance

Yeah, the monitor button turns the mac on, but once the comp is on, the light goes off and the screen stays black
I'll give it a go, but I don't believe so.

  • HT201317 Using icloud to back up photos and shared photostream, why not updating?

I've been manually backing up my camera roll on my windows 7 pc the old fashioned way (copying files through windows explorer) for some time, and have my pc as a whole backed up on a cloud product.
I have this week however learned about icloud and the ability to back up the shared streams I'm subscribed to. I therefore installed icloud control panel and watched my family's streams appear in My Pictures.
However, one shared stream did not transfer completely - there are 18 of my mum's pictures missing - and My Photo Stream has only transferred 70.
Know there's a 30 day limit so given that is the first backup, it may not back up all 1000 as the earlier ones are older than 30 days, but the selection making up to 70 aren't the most recent as showing on my iPhone, so its no that. I took a whole lot together last weekend, one is on there but not the rest (for example).
I can back up manually to get a complete set of my own photos but think I must be doing something wrong if it's missing some.
I did go out after backing up first time, did I interrupt it , which is why there are only 70?  How do I restart it? - given that it didn't finish first backup.
Also, I got home tonight, and the ones I've taken today have not transferred over.
Is there something I'm supposed to do to trigger a backup? ( both to finish first back up, and to backup new ones too)
Given that I'm using icloud more as a way of getting my photos and shared streams onto my pc, rather than backing up in icloud (as I have my own cloud too), what settings should I have on my iPhone, and what settings on iTunes?
At the moment on iPhone In settings/icloud/storage & backup, I have icloud backup turned on.
In iTunes, on the summary page for my iPhone (when plugged in) under Backups, I have 'iCloud' option ticked. Rather than 'this computer', when I change to 'this computer', the icloud setting on my iPhone gets turned to 'off'. I did hit the 'back up now' under 'manually back up and restore' in case that triggered it, and its showing a back up date and time of last night when I did this - but My Photo Stream is still at 70 - not complete transfer, or new ones - and mum's 18 still missing.
Same page in iTunes, under 'Option' I have both 'sync over wifi' and 'manually manage music and videos' checked.
I'm sure I'm overlooking something simple, any ideas?
    Thanks!

Right, they're slowly reappearing. And My Photo Stream is updating this time too.
So, is it signing in and out that did this? Is this what's supposed to happen?
I should have said, I was looking for a way to back shared streams as we all have each others streams on our iOS devices and its filling up our storage, so we want to start deleting from the beginning, but not til we've backed up.
However, if icloud works by constantly removing and rebacking up from what is on the device then, then this isn't the right solution for us, as it would remove the complete stream and back up a smaller stream after we've started deleting...
Did i do something wrong here, was this supposed to happen?
    What should I have done?
How do I stop this happening again?? I'm clearly not using icloud control properly!

  • Turning imac display off without putting it to sleep questions?

I like to leave my iMac on overnight but I don't want to put it to sleep COMPLETELY. Just to turn off the display. I heard you press control-shift-eject or do a hot spot on screensaver on system pref. But my question is, would it hurt the iMac in the long run for leaving it on overnight so much or it's made to last like that?
I talked to an apple specialist at the local apple store and he said these aluminum imacs are made to last even if you keep them on overnight? But would it overheat over the years? or I shouldn't worry so much. Sorry this is my first iMac. I have so many questions about it.

So it will not overheat no matter what?
If you are playing some 3D action game, or having the computer encode video for one hour straight, it may start to heat up. But then, the fans should kick up to a faster speed (you'll actually hear them), to keep the temp within the acceptable range. If the iMac is just sitting there, waiting for you to do something, it will not overheat. Now... If there is dust blocking airflow, or the Mac has some hardware issue that prevents the fans from running properly, then it is possible for a Mac to overheat, which may cause it to shut down unexpectedly or give you something called a +kernel panic+ (which is basically a system-level crash).
When a computer is running, for most users, it spends most of its time waiting for you to do something. If you are doing something simple like writing an email or web browsing, 90% of the time, it is waiting for you to do the next thing. If you have it doing something like ripping a music CD, during that time, it is working hard to finish as quickly as possible. But since most people do not rip CDs all day, most of the time, the Mac is coasting along, not working very hard. So, there is not much stress on the hardware most of the time it is turned on.
But if you shut down every night and start up every morning, one stressful time for the hardware is at startup. This is because all the components, such as the hard drive spinning up, display turning on, and the rest of the Mac are being powered up, happens at the same time. Waking from sleep is a similar process, and although it is not as bad as a full startup, it may happen much more frequently if the user is sleeping the Mac and waking it up frequently. That's why I suggested using sleep at the end of the day, to save power compared to keeping it ON, but once you have the Mac running at the start of the day, don't have it sleeping and waking numerous times throughout the day; just let it run until you are done for the day, then use sleep until the next day.

  • Subscriptions are not flexible

    Hello,
    On January 21st I created a subscription for 400 minutes/month landline calls.
Paid via PayPal, without automatic repayments.
The 400 minutes run out on February 13, so I tried to refill but there was not a way to do this, I had to wait until the end of the month (i.e. February 21st).
I can't change anything in the subscription.
I tried to create a new one but I got the message "If you continue to buy Greece 400 mins to landlines then you will be buying a calling subscription that overlaps with your previously purchased subscription.". No, I don't need a second subsciption.
OK, I make patience and wait till the end of the month, but yesterday (February 18th) I got the message that Skype tried to get paid by PayPal for the next month and "the payment was refused". So the subscription is not renewed with new minutes, and it won't be ever.
The status message reads "Your Greece 400 mins to landlines subscription will expire in 1 day as your payment has failed. Please change your payment method to retain your services."
I tried to see if there is a way to pay manually via PayPal, but there not a way to do this.
It seems that I have to cancel my subscription, read the "We are sorry that you did this, dear customer" and feel stressed, and subsequently make a new one, stressed once again by the message "...you will be buying a calling subscription that overlaps with your previously purchased subscription".
This is funny. Skype tries to make with me a "long lasting contract" but can't provide me with elementary things: I run out of talking time before the end of the month. What do I do?
Actually what I want is to buy some minutes talking time (let's say 400) to spend them as I wish. When run out, make a new payment, have another 400 minutes. Is this so difficult to have?

    Hey ,
I dont have answer for your problem. But even i have the same problem. I hav also got 800 min for India calling. i have started on 1 st July but unfortunatly it got ove ron 26 th july itself. so i have to wait till 1 st Aug fot it to get renewed. I tried doing it ..but it had shown me d same error. I am so stressed with this. If you get answer to this please post it. I wana renew my account before it gets expired not on the last day only.

  • Some chart types cannot be combined with other chart types

    Good morning,
I am working on a MacBook Air (purchased Oct 2009) running Lion. While working in Excel 2011, I encounter the error "Some chart types cannot be combined with other chart types. Please select a different chart type." I am highlighting 46 cells to create a marked line graph. There are no other charts in the file. I called Microsoft support who told me they had not heard of this problem in Excel (only in PowerPoint). I also took it to an Apple Store Genius, who was unable to solve the problem, which is understandable, given that he does not work for Microsoft.
To try to resolve this issue, I have recopied the data to a new spreadsheet, re-typed all the data to a new spreadsheet, and deleted plist files. When I sent it to a different computer (which was running Excel 2011 and Snow Leopard), I could make the figure but I cannot edit the figure or add data on my laptop.
Any suggestions that you have would be much appreciated,
    Signed,
One stressed out PhD student who desperately needs Excel to work

    Hi, folks.
Apparently, when using Excel 2011 and running Lion, if the tab names in excel contain a period (.), this error occurs. I removed the periods and now I can graph again. I hope this helps anyone else who may experience this problem.

  • Program design flaw in After Effects - Position

I am having a heck of a time getting my credits to scroll up properly. A major problem is the program automatically adds a keyframe point every time one moves things. My credits start and stop at bizarre places, and at more places than there appears to be key frames,or they go in the wrong direction and then change direction on their own accord. And the process of placing or modifying the start and finish positions of the text is not at all intuitive. I cannot even figure out whether the first keypoint is supposed to be the start, or finish point.Yes, I've watched the videos, and read the help, but I would be grateful for some simple instruction how I can get a long credit to scroll.
Also, there seems to be no master command to disengage or delete all command information for say position. I have been using the revert function, but one should be able to cancel everything at once if desired.

I've seen your desperate posts from the past few days, and I gotta tell you: I can feel your pain, but you really are trying to jump into the deep end of the pool, and your lack of basic AE knowledge is like wearing lead weights when you jump in.  It doesn't help that AE is definitely NOT an application you can use intuitively, nor does it help that AE's online help is more of a reference tool than it is a learning tool... Adobe really has to work on that.
AE has its own way of thinking.  Its own arcane lexicon.  Its own way of solving a problem.  It's really tough for a beginner to grasp that.  While many applications have a quick-start, get-your-feet-wet set of instructions, AE doesn't.  It really demands that you walk before you run, that you learn the basics before you launch off into the fun stuff.  You can't define a trick you want to learn and expect to find a step-by-step how-to.
So how do you learn the basics?  Forget about AE's online help: as mentioned earlier, it's a reference work, not a textbook.  Here's an example: you can look up "French Language" in the encyclopedia and find a wealth of information about its history, a brief description of syntax, the origin of words, etc. but you won't learn French out of an encyclopedia.  You take a French class, invest in Rosetta Stone, get a French language textbook... a variety of things.  When starting to learn French, you don't make your first project a written critique of the works of Jean-Paul Sartre.  The same applies to learning AE.  It really is a lot like learning a foreign language.
Here are some other learning options... but they all require learning the basics first: it's a fact of life in AE-Land.
Todd's Getting Started link is a good beginning point, but it's no good if you're impatient.  You've got to go through it, and not cherry-pick what YOU think is important.  You'll probably be wrong.  There are also certain things that are lacking because it's all free, and the topics can be hit-and-miss.
You say there's nothing like a book.  Fortunately, two highly-respected AE practitioners, Chris and Trish Meyer, have a set of books available for various AE versions.  They've been with After Effects since Version 1.  With the possible exception of CS 5.5, you'll find a fine "Learn AE" book by the Meyers, and it's just a google away.  The Meyers' books almost always come with footage and project files so you can play along at home.  I swear by these books for identifying the Basic Concepts And Things You Need To Know.  Again, patience is the watchword.
There are quite a few books out besides the Meyer's works, and I've found them on the shelf at Barnes and Noble.  You can check 'em out yourself.  You might even find one called After Effects For Dummies, and you shouldn't take offense: EVERYBODY'S a dummy when they first begin learning AE.
Total Training has AE training DVDs, and they're also highly-regarded.  I used them back when I was first learning AE (and I continue to learn AE to this day).  They too come complete with footage and project files.
Todd and Angie Taylor, also highly-ranked among the Who's Who in the AE community, have training available on DVD:
    http://www.peachpit.com/store/product.aspx?isbn=0321734866
Many of the lessons Todd links to in his Getting Started section come from this, but you get footage and files with the paid version.  I have this one myself, and I use it.
Lynda.com also offers AE training, but I've never used it.
That's a pretty good list of popular ways to learn After Effects, but each one stresses that learning the basics is essential.  Many have tried to learn AE the way you're currently doing it, and they've either failed, given up on AE (a real shame) or accepted that they need to learn it the recommended way.
While you might not like what I just wrote, that's the situation: you learn AE a certain way, which may not be the way you want.  That's just the truth of it.

  • CS6 can't find download - followed steps

Hi there, I purchased CS6 Standard for students and teachers.  Followed the steps to find and download - but there was no link to download CS6.
Sorry I then noticed that where I follwed the steps it has this showed up "
    Electronic Download(s) / Subscription(s): Expected Arrival Date Tuesday, January 29, 2013"
Does this just mean I won't be able to download product until then?
Sorry just one stressed student, new to Adobe
    Thanks,
    Melissa

    Which exact Adobe product?
If you mean Adobe Creative Suite Design Standard CS6 then you can download the Trial from the Adobe website while waiting for your order to be sorted (an ESD should be immediate though unless verification checks are required).

  • NEED HELP BIG TIME!

I wrote a few days ago about this and was told that gathering
information from a form using Post as the method and having the
results emailed to someone wasn't a good idea and that it didn't
work very well. People basically told me to investigate scripting
or hiring someone, or use a pay service like MailChimp. None of
these are options for me right now, I absolutely have to get this
site done tonight and the person I'm doing it for will not pay for
    a service.
The client wants to have a form on his site to collect email
addresses so he can compile them into a mailing list to send out
infrequent emails notifying people of upcoming events he's putting
on. He's a local artist with a very modest following, nothing big
time. I have no idea about databasing or MySql, and the person
doesn't want to pay for a service, so basically I'm stuck doing it
    the "unreliable" way.
Can someone walk me through how to do this in Dreamweaver? I
assume I add a form field, and put a text field and submit button
inside of it. Here's my questions, to get this to work and use the
mailto: thing, what do I put for...
Form Field: Name, Action, Method, Target, Enctype
    Text Field: Name
    Button: Type, Name, ID, Value
Any help would be greatly appreciated by one stressed out,
    hack web designer, thanks!

If this client doesn't want to pay for a service then tell
    him the best
you can do is gather INDIVIDUAL emails from his site and have
    them
emailed to their email address. Then it's up to them to mail
    out to
    their modest following INDIVIDUALLY.
Basically you put a form on the site to collect the email
    address of the
    user. Like this:
    <form name="emailForm" method="post"
    action="formmail.php">
    <p><label for="email">Enter email
    address</label><br>
    <input type="text" id="email" name="email"> </p>
    <input type="submit" name="Submit" value="Submit">
    </form>
You would then need to send the submitted form to a formmail
    script
which will then send it on to the clients email address.
A free script named Formmail does exist if you search for it
    in google
    under Free formmail script
You would need to alter the script as per the instructions
    which should
come with it and then upload it to your cgi-bin assuming you
    have one on
    your server.
You then point the form at the script by filling in the
    action attribute
    like:
    <form name="emailForm" method="post"
    action="
    http://www.yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/formmail.cgi">
I no longer use formmail because it can be a bit of an issue
    to set up
    for beginners.
I now tend to use server side scripting like php to gather
    the
information. IF you have php running on your server then
    NateMail is
FREE and very very simple script to set up. It comes with
    clear pdf
instructions that will do the job in about 10-15mins.
