Oops! Something broke - on connect from Scout Companion

I just downloaded Scout 1.1.3.354121
I have also just downloaded the Scout Companion app for a iPod touch 5th gen (the 640 x 1136 one).
1) Launch Scout on Desktop
2) Enable Scout Companion on the iPod (which is currently tethered to my laptop via USB since I'm developing with Flash CC)
3) iPod is on the same wireless network as my laptop. Laptop is wired.
4) Scout Companion sees my computer. Click the laptop in the list of "Machine".
5) Scout on the laptop crashes with "Oops! Something broke - please restart".
Rinse and repeat. Can't get the connection to work.
Help?

Solved my own problem - but thought I'd post it here and perhaps save someone else two days of hunting phantoms.
Seems that somewhere during the failed install of 10g_win32_companion disk, a line either got added to or modified or ??? in the c:\oracle\ora92\network\admin\snmp_ro.ora file. This changed the protocol of my xe.me.mylocal database from TCP to BEQ. Since the BEQ protocol doesn't exist in the tnsnames.ora or other files, that was the source of the error.
Not exactly sure what the snmp_ro.ora file is for, but once I corrected the error and rebooted the computer, the 20 lines of service names for all my databases, etc that were listed in snmp_or.ora were reduced to 3 lines pointing to the snmp_rw.ora and sqlnet.ora files.
Another interesting learning experience.

  • Cannot Create Skype Video Message – "Oops, something went wrong-"

    I've seen this issue a few times on here but none of the resolutions pertain to my situation. While I can Video Skype, I cannot send a video message. When I do, I get the message, "Oops, something went wrong. Please try again of get in touch if you need help." I have uninstalled Skype, cleaned the registry, restarted, and reinstalled to no avail. I am running 64-bit Windows 7 SP 1 on an HP G72 Notebook. There is NO external camera connected via USB. My camera options in video settings are HP Webcam-101 (in use) or Cyberlink Web Camera Filter. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have attached the DirectX diagnostics file as well. Thank you.

    Try updating the driver from the HP drivers to the generic Microsoft "USB Video Device" ones following the guidance in the graphic below:

  • New server and/or CA certificate for connection from custom authentication

    We are running Access Manager version 72005Q4 in the Sun ONE Web Server 6.1SP5 B06/23/2005 container with java build 1.5.0_07-b03. I run a custom authentication module which checks sessions against our university single sign on system which is CAS (from Yale/Jasig). The checks are essentially https calls. All this has been working well for us for the last couple of years.
    I would like to migrate the certificate used on the university CAS system from a Verisign certificate to a wildcard certificate issued by the IPS CA in spain -- these are in most browsers but are not in the standard batch of cacerts CA's -- and are free for .edu domains.
    My other java based authentication plugins (Blackboard, custom apps etc) have worked fine once I import the certificate into the cacerts for the java container, but I'm missing something (obvious probably) about importing this certificate so that my amserver custom authentication module can connect to the CAS server once the CAS server is using the new certificate.
    Could anyone provide guidance on where I need to import this server certificate (or preferably the IPS CA) in order to allow the custom authentication module to work properly? I assume this same problem has been solved by people wishing to connect from the amserver to services with self signed certificates. For some reason I'm finding the debugging unexpectedly difficult, I'll outline some of those details below.
    Relevant things I've tried so far:
    Import both the server cert and the IPS CA into the cacerts of the java container identified in the web server server.xml /usr/jdk/entsys-j2se.
    Import the IPS CA into the web server cert8 style db via the web admin server.
    The debugging has surprised me a bit, as I'm not getting an error that is explicitly SSL related error. It almost seems like the URLConnection object ends up using a HttpURLConnection rather than an HttpsURLConnection and never gives me a cert error, rather a connection refused since there is no non SSL service running on CAS. The same code pointed to the server running the verisign cert works as expected.

    The relevent bit of code from the SecureURL.retrieve looks as follows:
    URL u = new URL(url);
    if (!u.getProtocol().equals("https"))
    throw new IOException("only 'https' URLs are valid for this method");
    URLConnection uc = u.openConnection();
    uc.setRequestProperty("Connection", "close");
    r = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(uc.getInputStream()));
    String line;
    StringBuffer buf = new StringBuffer();
    while ((line = r.readLine()) != null)
    buf.append(line + "\n");
    return buf.toString();
    } finally { ...
    The fact that this same code in other authentication modules running outside the amserver (in other web containers as well, tomcat and resin for example) running java 1.5 works fine with the new CA, as well as with self signed certs that I've imported into the appropriate cacerts file leads me to believe that I'm either importing the certificate into the wrong store, or that there is some additional step needed for the amserver in the Sun Web container.
    Thank you very much for any insights and help,
    Ethan

    I thought since this has had a fair number of views I would give an update.
    I have been able to confirm that the custom authentication module is using the cert8 db defined in the AMConfig property com.iplanet.am.admin.cli.certdb.dir as documented. I do seem to have a problem using the certificate to make outgoing connections, even though the certificate verifies correctly for use as a server certificate. This is likely a question for a different forum, but just to show what I'm looking at:
    root@jbc1 providers#/usr/sfw/bin/certutil -V -n "FSU Wildcard Certificate" -d /opt/SUNWwbsvr/alias -P https-jbc1.ucs.fsu.edu-jbc1- -u V
    certutil: certificate is valid
    root@jbc1 providers#/usr/sfw/bin/certutil -V -n "FSU Wildcard Certificate" -d /opt/SUNWwbsvr/alias -P https-jbc1.ucs.fsu.edu-jbc1- -u C
    certutil: certificate is invalid: Certificate type not approved for application.
    root@jbc1 providers#/usr/sfw/bin/certutil -M -n "FSU Wildcard Certificate" -d /opt/SUNWwbsvr/alias -P https-jbc1.ucs.fsu.edu-jbc1- -t uP,uP,uP
    root@jbc1 providers#/usr/sfw/bin/certutil -V -l -n "FSU Wildcard Certificate" -d /opt/SUNWwbsvr/alias -P https-jbc1.ucs.fsu.edu-jbc1- -u C
    FSU Wildcard Certificate : Certificate type not approved for application.
    So it could be that I don't understand how to use the certutiil to get the permissions I want, or it could be that using the same certificate for both server and client functions is not supported -- though you can see why this would be a common case with wildcard certificates.
    BTW for those interested, it did seem to be the case that when the certificate failure occurred that the attempt was then made by the URLConnection to bind to port 80 in cleartext even though the URL was clearly https. I'm sure this was just an attempt to help out misformed URL, but it seemed that the URLConnection implementation in the amserver would swapped traffic over cleartext if that port had been open on the server I was making the https connection to; that seems dangerous to me, I would not have wanted it to quietly work that way exposing sensitive information to the network.
    This was why I was getting back a connection refused instead of a certificate exception. The URLConnection implementation used by the amserver is defined by java.protocol.handler.pkgs=com.iplanet.services.comm argument passwd to the JVM, and I imagine this is done because the amserver pre-dates the inclusion of the sun.net.www.protocol handlers, but I don't know, there maybe reasons why the amserver wants it own handler. I only noticed that this is what was going on when I as casting the httpsURLConnection objects to other types trying to diagnose the certificate problem. I would be interested in hearing if anyone knows if there is a reason not to use sun.net.www.protocol with the amserver.
    After switching to the sun.net.www.protocol handler I was able to get my certificate errors rather than the "Connection Refused" which is what lead me to the above questions about certutil.

  • Can't connect from mavericks (MBP) to mountain lion (MacPro) via Wifi

    i am trying to google for answers to this and i just come up with answers about connections to printers or hdmi or TV's etcetera.
    the problem is that i can connect to my laptop (macbook pro) from my desktop (mac pro) but i can't connect from my laptop (MBP) to my desktop (mac pro). i used to be able to do this but for some reason all i see if "Share Screen" or "Disconnect" and my iCloud Account is listed as "Connected As" but there is no data shown in Finder.
    does anyone know what search terms i can google for or if there is a Settings section that i should be checking?
    i tried dragging the Mac Pro icon out of the Shared section and i tried hitting disconnect as well as restarting both machines and turning off wifi on the laptop (hmmm. maybe i will shut both down at the same time...?) and so far no solutions.
    right now i have to go to the desktop to move files around and this is a major pain.
    i can see the network and i can print...
    THANKS for any help

    hi. thank you. this is really aggravating. i am checking the mac pro this morning (it is the one i cannot access from my laptop) and attached is the screenshot. does this look OK?
    also, i am starting to wonder is it possible that the "Computer Name" has changed itself on the network or is it possible that i have some control over /naming/ the computer? it seems to often be named "MyName Mac Pro (2)" which always bothers me since there is no 1 Mac Pro and i would like to get rid of the appended 2.
    but ALSO i don't recall ever having changed anything in system preferences so i am wondering if somehow the computer renamed itself or something weird has happened.
    finally, is it possible something is amiss with the fact that FINDER says it is connected via my icloud EMAIL account at the top of the Finder window on my Laptop whereas when i check just now on the desktop it shows that i am connnected as the SHORT NAME of my LAPTOP. i mean, when i connec tto the laptop from the desktop it shows me connected as the short name of the laptop but when i connect to the desktop as the laptop - it says i am connnected as the name of my ICLOUD ACCOUNT and i am thinking it should say i am connected as the name of my MAC PRO SHORT NAME.
    you know what i mean? is there a place in the LAPTOP to check where i input what name and password i am connecting to the Mac Pro under...

    I have a Power PC G4 which is running on OSX 10.5.8, it has the AirPort utility but cannot connect to the internet as my iMac can, I think I might need an AirPort Card? Is that the case or do I need something different to connect to a wireless modem?

    Welcome!
    Only one variant of the PowerMac G4 could use the faster Airport Extreme Card. The rest used the original Airport card that is pretty slow.
    To get fast wireless without buying more than one thing, consider this:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Edimax/EW7722IN/
    It goes in an available PCI slot
    There are USB solutions also. However, all PowerMac G4 towers had only slower USB 1.1 ports, so any USB wireless adaptor can only run at about wireless 'B" speeds (slow) unless you also install a PCI USB 2.0 adaptor card. Doing that would allow a USB wireless adaptor to run at its maximum rated speed. These items working together would accomplish that:
    USB wireless "dongle:"
    Newer Technology MAXPower 802.11n/g/b USB Adapter + Plug and play direct or with extension cradle
    USB PCI adaptor:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/Search/Search.cfm?Ntk=Primary&Ns=P_Popularity%7c1&Ne=5 000&N=7069&Ntt=USB+PCI
    Each approach has its advantages. The PCI wireless card is a one-piece solution that takes up no desk space. The USB2 card+USB2 Dongle gives you more fast ports for transferring date from other external USB devices (primarily cameras and external hard drives) at hugely faster rates than can the original ports. I have a USB 2 PCI card in my G4 tower strictly for transferring images from my digital SLR camera in a timely manner.

    Do you try it with apache web server ? If yes, is there any related information in the apache.log when someone try to connect from out. What's in your http server related config files, vhosts, etc?
    Ill try that today. i tried something similar with sshd and looked at the verbose output of the program when trying to connect remotely. it was never touched, like no one tried to connect. i feel like its a network security issue since i can connect locally. but ill check these logs as well

  • Load balancing 10g forms - Connection from new browser window not supported

    Load balancing 10g forms - Connection from new browser window not supported
    We're experimenting with using webcache to load balance between multiple applications servers running OC4J forms processes.
    We currently have one machine with infrastructure and mid-tier (BI & Forms) installed, which is being used for the webcache functionality, this is load balancing between 2 other servers each of which just have the mid-tier (BI & Forms) installation
    In order to get this to work, I had to follow the instructions in the Forms deployment guide : http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_11/web.1012/b14032/tuning.htm#sthref707
    The main gist of this is that you need to set the following in the orion-web.xml file in order that the sessions are maintained:
    <session-tracking
    cookies="enabled">
    </session-tracking>
    This all works fine in most cases.
    The problem I am having is if I do one of the following on the client machine:
    1) From IE6 / IE7 run a copy of a forms application. Then open a new window using the "New Window" menu option, and attempt to run another forms application.
    2) In IE7 or Firefox 2.0 open a copy of the forms application, and then open a new tab and try and open another forms application.
    If I try either of these I get a FRM-92101 error, and the following is displayed in the java console:
    oracle.forms.net.ConnectionException: Connection from new browser window not supported
    From trawling various forums (including metalink and otn) it looks like a problem with the way coockies are handled.
    Unfortunately the usual workaround is to ensure that the session tracking option in the orion-web.xml file is disabled.
    The problem is that I need this enabled in order for the load balancing to work.
    Does anyone know of any other workarounds or patches that might help resolve this?
    We're using Application server 10.1.2.0.2 running on windows 2003 servers.

    You were right. Carriage returns were stopping it from working (the document is laid out over separate lines, so I assumed it would make no difference...).
    I've now managed to get it so the forms at least run, but they are all being run in the forms OC4J instance on the same machine as the OHS.
    Has anyone actually managed to get this to work, or am I doing something wrong?
    I did wonder if using an OHS instance on a machine with no forms installation would make any difference?
    I had raised a support call via metalink on this subject, but they eventually came to the conclusion that the only way to do this is with a hardware load balancer (Despite several documents suggesting that webcache is the way to go (including the forms deployment manual)).
    I'm at the point now of giving up and writing some custom scripts to do the job instead...

  • Most efficient way to get a  connection from a defined connection -pool [whole message]

    Having recently load-tested the application we are developing I noticed that
    one of the most expensive (time-wise) calls was my fetch of a db-connection
    from the defined db-pool. At present I fetch my connections using :
    private Connection getConnection() throws SQLException {
    try {
    Context jndiCntx = new InitialContext();
    DataSource ds =
    (DataSource)
    jndiCntx.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/txDatasource");
    return ds.getConnection();
    } catch (NamingException ne) {
    myLog.error(this.makeSQLInsertable("getConnection - could not
    find connection"));
    throw new EJBException(ne);
    In other parts of the code, not developed by the same team, I've seen the
    same task accomplished by :
    private Connection getConnection() throws SQLException {
    return DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:weblogic:jts:FTPool");
    From the performance-measurements I made the latter seems to be much more
    efficient (time-wise). To give you some metrics:
    The first version took a total of 75724ms for a total of 7224 calls which
    gives ~ 11ms/call
    The second version took a total of 8127ms for 11662 calls which gives
    ~0,7ms/call
    I'm no JDBC guru som i'm probably missing something vital here. One
    suspicion I have is that the second call first find the jdbc-pool and after
    that makes the very same (DataSource)
    jndiCntx.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/txDatasource") in order to fetch the
    actual connection anyway. If that is true then my comparison is plain wrong
    since one call is part of the second. If not, then the second version sure
    seems a lot faster.
    Apart from the obvious performance-differences in the two above approaches,
    is there any other difference one should be aware of (transaction-context
    for instance) between the two ? Basically I'm working in an EJB-environment
    on weblogic 7.0 and looking for the most efficient way to get hold of a
    db-connection in code. Comments anyone ?

    Thank you for both your replies. As per your suggestions I've improved my
    connectionhandling (I ended up implementing the Service Locator pattern as a
    matter of fact).
    One thing still puzzles me though. Which (and why) is the "proper" way to
    fetch the actual dataSource. As I stated before in the code I've seen two
    approaches within the code I've got.
    1. myDs = myServiceLocator.getDataSource("jdbc:weblogic:jts:FTPool");
    2. myDs = myServiceLocator.getDataSource("java:comp/env/jdbc/tgsDB");
    where getDataSource does a dataSource = (DataSource)
    initialContext.lookup(dataSourceName); dataSourceName being the input-string
    obviously.
    tgsDB is defined as
    <reference-descriptor>
    <resource-description>
    <res-ref-name>jdbc/tgsDB</res-ref-name>
    <jndi-name>tgs-dataSource</jndi-name>
    </resource-description>
    </reference-descriptor>
    in weblogic-ejb-jar.xml
    From what I can understand by your answer, you don't recommend using the
    JNDI-lookup way of getting the connection at all ?Correct.
    The service locator that
    I implemented will still perform a JNDI lookup, but only once. Will the fact
    that I'm talking to an RMI-object anyway significantly impact performance
    (when compared to you non-jndi-method) ?In some cases, for earlier 7.0s, maybe yes. For the very latest, it shouldn't
    hurt.
    >
    >
    In my two examples above. If i use version 1. How will the server know
    whether to give me a TX-bound connection and when not to ? In version 1
    FTPool maps to a pool with both TX and non-TX datasources. In version 2.
    tgsDB maps directly to a TX-dataSource.
    I might be asking a lot of strange questions, probably because I'm just
    getting the hang of all the resource-reference issues that EJBs are
    associated with.Bear with me ;)

    Hi. As Jon said, the lookups are redundant. Because you showed that otherway,
    I will infer that this code is always being run in serverside code. Good.I will give you
    a third way which is much better than either of the ones you showed. Thefirst method
    you showed has a problem for all but the latest sps, your jdbc objectswill all be
    going through an unnecessary level of indirection because you are gettingan rmi jdbc
    object which talks to the jts driver object.
    The second, faster method you showed also has a serious problem! Oneshould
    never call DriverManager methods in multithreaded JDBC programs becauseall
    DriverManager calls are class-synchronized, including some small internalones like
    DriverManager.println(), which all JDBC drivers and even the constructorfor
    SQLException call, so one slow getConnection() call can inadvertantly haltall other
    JDBC being done in the whole JVM! Also, for JVMs that have lots of jdbcdrivers
    registered, DriverManager is inefficient because it simply sends your URLand
    properties to every driver it has registered until it finds one thatdoesn't throw an
    exception and returns a connection.
    Here's the fastest way:
    // do once and reuse driver object everywhere. Can be used by multiplethreads
    Driver d =(Driver)Class.forName("weblogic.jdbc.jts.Driver").newInstance();
    Then, whenever you want a connection:
    public myJDBCMethod()
    Connection c = null; // always a method level object
    try {
    c = d.connect("jdbc:weblogic:jts:FTPool", null);
    ... do all the jdbc for the method...
    c.close();
    c = null;
    catch (Exception e) {
    ... do whatever, if needed...
    finally {
    // close connection regardless of failure or exit path
    if (c != null) try {c.close();}catch (Exception ignore){}

  • Having problems sharing internet Connection from Macbook to Vonage Adapter

    Hello,
    I just got my Vonage adaptor and I am trying to share the Internet connection from my Macbook Pro (10.7.3) to the Adaptor to use the Vonage service bc my router is downstairs.
    I turned off my Firewall, hooked my Vonage adapter to the Macbook with the ethernet cable and then went to Sys Preferences > Sharing > Selected Internet Sharing > Share Connection from Wifi to computers using Ethernet, and it looks like everything is ok but when i try to use the phone which is connected to to Vonage Adapter, it says "Your Vonage device cannot connect to the internet, check to see if your high speed internet is down".
    I went and looked at my Network preferences and it shows Ethernet connected which is the Vonage Adapter and gives the following:
    IP Address: 169.254.163.167
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
    Is there something Im doing wrong? Ive seen on several forums that its possible to do but having bad luck. Any help is appreciated.

    All I know is that I got Ubuntu to share internet and offer IPs through DHCP by using Firestarter. I am very new to Solaris, however, and am looking forward to learning about it. I've just made it my regular desktop environment. Long as you can get Solaris to configure its network interface with DHCP after your Ubuntu is configured, you should be able to share to as many clients as you'd like. Fedora also works well for that, and in my opinion, it's a better Linux than Ubuntu, though Solaris remains a better Linux than Linux, right? Har.

    Hello,
    I have the same problem (probably because we work for the same company )
    The problem is with Symantec Endpoint Protection. I ran a script and found out that's causing the problem. I don't have a fix yet though unfortunately.

  • Run dial-up connection from Java Program?

    Is there a way to run dial-up connection from a Java Program? It needs to platform independent.
    Thanks.
    Virum

    I very much doubt it, at least not platform independent. I had a, oops, heck of a time doing that from Visual Basic, where it is much easier to work with operating-system stuff like that than it is in Java. I finally ended up buying a RAS component to call from my VB program.

  • Error when extracting data using DB Connect from an Oracle database

    Hi All,
    We are on BI 3.5 and loading data from a non-SAP (Oracle 10g) database using DB Connect.
    I received the following error messages when trying to perform "Check DataSource" using the DB Connect setup in RSA1.
    Event with errors RSDL_META_UPLOAD in DataSource
    Message no. R8287
    Warning Messages;
    Message no. RSDL053
    Field name ReceiptID contains non-alpha-numeric characters
    Field name ActivityDate contains non-alpha-numeric characters
    Field name ReceiptDate contains non-alpha-numeric characters
    Field name ReceiptLineNumber must have between 000001 and 000016 digits
    etc...
    Views are created under the owner's user name. I have checked with DB personnel and they confirm that all the authorization and security access privileges have been correctly granted to the views.
    We are also able to extract the data by running a sql query statement from the views using SQL Plus
    Currently we also have a similar extraction process set up with an Oracle 9 database, which extracts the information without any issues.
    Thanks,
    Anthony

    Hi Mr Loh.
    I know that this thread has over a year ago but i was looking for something similar for over 2 weeks ago and i ialways found this thread...I want to share my experience even that maybe you already found the same solution or something similar (i saw that you check your own post as answered):
    I made a similar connection from BI 7 SP 18, but in my case was to a Microsoft SQL database 2005. When i "check the datasource" i receive like almost 150 warnings and 1 error and all the warnings and errors are the same ones as you describe above. What i did is create a custom view in the MSSQL database and convert all the column names to uppercase and the column names i limited to 16 characters at most. after doing that all the warnings and the error described disappear and i can view the database content when you made click in the "view content table" button.
    I hope that this will help somebody and best regards

  • Can Oracle 7i and 8i be connected from Oracle 9i database

    I want to know if i can do the following. That means is it possible in production scenario. If yes then how and will it affect the performance to a great extend.
    We are now upgrading the application server to weblogic 10.3 . But this server supports only Oracle 9i and above. But we have two more data server which are Oracle 8i and Oracle 7i. These databases will be upgraded later on but not now. So the problem is i can not connect to these Oracle database versions if i use Weblogic 10.3. So i wanted to know if there is any possibility of connecting the application server to a intermideate Oracle 9i database which will act as a bridge from Application server to Oracle 7i and 8i. Can Oracle 9i connect to Oracle 7i and 8i. If yes then how. You can provide me online references if any.
    Thanks in advance. Waiting for your reply.

    The connection what you are refering is from a normal pc to Oracle 7i or 8i database. But i want to connect from Oracle 9i to Oracle 8iWhen connecting from one db to another (via a db_link) the 'calling' db is just another client to the 'called' db. if you can connect to 7.x (there was no 7i) with a 9.x sqlplus, then you should be able to connect with a 9.x database. At a previous job, we did something similar to get an app compiled against 8.1 to use a 10.2 database - set up a 9.2 intermediary that had nothing but db_links and synonyms pointing on to the 10g.
    However, I wouldn't bet the company on making your scenario work. You really should upgrade your databases first.
